Pretty good Chinese food! However not exactly what I thought it would be in terms of ambience! It wasn't your typical Chinese place it was a tad more upscale (not suit and tie upscale but just more upscale than most Chinese places). They had a huge selection of wine which took me by surprise and their cocktails were pretty good as well. I got the general tso chicken and combo fried rice. Chicken could've used more sauce in my opinion but the flavor and the texture were great! Now prices. My go to Chinese place is heights Asian cafe (I truly hate plugging in places when reviewing but just so you can get an idea). Asian heights imo has some solid prices (10-15 for general tso chicken and 9-12 for fried rice). This place however was very expensive imo! The chicken was about 20 and so was the rice if I'm not mistake (could be wrong about the rice). So all in all give it a try if you're in the neighborhood but don't go out your way. read more

Impeccable service, amazing food. I've never been served so efficiently in my life. Water was on the table immediately and the polite server was there seconds later. Reservations help out when you have a big party. We were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday and they accommodated very well and very quickly. We had last minute guests arrive and they added a table for us. Very sweet if the manager and the staff. We ordered in bulk to make it easier and it helped so much that the food came out hot, fresh and quickly! Apps: We always get the fried calamari. There was no words to describe this appetizer but perfect. They are hot crispy critters battered and fried to perfection. The marinara sauce that comes with the app is extraordinary, bold and really delicious (please give me the recipe!) We also had hot pork dumpling to start. The presentation was gorgeous and oh so delicious. I had the wonton soup and I'd get it again over and over I'd I could. Perfect for the type of weather we witnessed that night. Drinks were being filled all night. Our server, Mala, is consistently on her Ps and Qs and really makes you feel welcome. She is an asset to the team and I can't thank her enough for making that night special! For dinner, we had Orange chicken, Mongolian beef, happy family, spicy green beans, bok choy and general tso chicken. All equally amazing, except for the HAPPY family. That was one of my most favorite dishes that night. We were too full for desert, but still ended up getting a celebratory BIRTHDAY cheesecake on the house. This is a delicious Chinese restaurant. We had the sesame chicken, wonton soup, steamed rice, crab puffs and the chicken and broccoli. All great! Very happy to have found a neighborhood Chinese spot that's got great food across the menu. Our favorite was the crab puffs, or the crab wontons, they're so full of melty cream cheese goodness. So we stopped in Cafe Ginger late on a week night. Despite us coming in close to close, the service was very good. We had a couple of vegan options and settled on the sweet potato roll and the veggie roll. Bother were savory and fresh! The sweet potato was exceptional with a crisp bite! The couple we came with had the chicken fried rice and thought it was very tasty. After we raved about the sweet potato roll they ended up getting two of those and agreed it was some of the best vegan sushi they had. If you need a quick bite and you're staying in the area at one of the hotels in Kingswood off the highway, this place is a great option! read more

This is not authentic Chinese food. As the manager stated, their dishes cater to the demographics of the area. Authentic Lo Mein is made with egg noodles, not spaghetti. FYI: They don't do curbside pick up during the pandemic. My husband and I have been going here for years, even before the strip mall location, but have been careful during the Covid surges to avoid exposing ourselves when we can help it. Called to ask if they do curbside pick up and a man who answered the phone gave me attitude and a lecture about how they're short staffed. A simple 'no we don't do curbside' would've sufficed. A little disappointed, but not surprised by the service. Good food, but the service was sometimes a hit or miss over the years. After this incident, they've lost us as long-time customers. This is the best managed restaurant in Houston. We eat out a lot and this place takes the cake. They get you a glass of water within 2 minutes. The staff are very friendly and professional. Great ambiance, relaxing music. This place has wonderful Chinese food and sushi. The Bejing chicken dish is very delicious, as are the soft shell crabs, lettuce wrapped chicken, moo shoo chicken, kung pau chicken. Sushi is excellent as well. I could go on and on. Had the Mongolian beef (this was really good only issue was very oil), Hunan Chicken (bit spicy), brown rice, egg rolls and crab wonton. I loved the crab wonton and that is the only reason why I am giving this place 4 stars. With out the crab wonton its only 3 stars. So why the crab wonton. It was so refreshing. It has a nice crunch to it. Love the mayo inside. Just very delicious. People were saying that Café Ginger has really good Chinese food. Hmm. Mmmmm Mmmmm! Some of the best Chinese food I've had outside of Chinatown! I used to go to Cafe Le Jadeite that was in this space before. I don't know when it changed hands, but I was glad to see all of the ornate interior design was still present. I love how you walk into this unassuming strip mall restaurant to find rich colors and huge statues. The interior is definitely over the top but in a fun way. The service is good. I could tell that they would have loved for us to order sushi (yeah, I know.. I thought this place was Chinese) and wine. When we didn't order either they didn't push. Our food was very good. The special fried rice was good and huge. The General Tso's chicken was yummy! The sauce is very viscous and sweet, but I really liked it! $25 for the two entrees and two sodas. They also have the typical Chinese food dishes as well, like General Tsao's chicken and the like. The lunch meals come with your choice of rice and soups and either a crab puff or eggroll. And with a full sushi menu too, there's something for everyone. The decor is really bright and colorful and interesting and the service is super efficient and friendly. My favorite dish at lunch is the salt and pepper softshell crab for around $21. I recently had a new item, crispy shrimp and candied walnuts in a caviar and sake sauce which I loved. This spot is one of our go-to spots in Houston. While I typically try different Chinese dishes each time, my partner usually gets the sushi and we're both happy. The Szechuan noodles are delicious and never disappoint, but on this visit I got the spicy and tangy chicken and it was outstanding! The wait staff and management recognize us and try to seat us in our usual spot; something about that just makes it feel more personal and inviting.
