This is the place. A quaint little cafe, tucked away in a strip mall, but don't miss it. Breakfast and Lunch, a simple menu loaded with lots of flavor. The owner/chef is usually there tending to things. Today we had the homemade Posole and the HP Club Panini. The Posole was every bit as good as in Mexico and the Panini was very good as well. I had the chicken fried steak (super crispy yet tender) and hubby had the Benedict (perfectly poached eggs with very good hollandaise). Everyone was courteous and kind. Amazing food, wonderful atmosphere, and the service was delightful. Literally everything we ordered was absolutely fantastic. The coffee was so good I drank it black, the french toast was so cinnamon-y and the burger was the best we've had in a long time. Read the reviews so we came in for breakfast. It was FABULOUS! My husband had the chicken fried steak and I had the chicken fried chicken. Both were delicious and we were stuffed! Everything I saw come out looked equally tasty. I was bummed I didn't have room for dessert- lemon raspberry tres leche cake. I'm sure it would have been scrumptious! Fast and friendly service. Prices are way off the chart, and the food was not prepared properly. My hamburger was burnt and I'm told it because it's char broiled. How ridiculous, I'm retired now but worked as a cook off and on for 25 years. I've done coffee shops, dinner houses, Country Clubs and I've worked with char broilers. What a cute cafe! My husband had the chicken fried steak, and I had biscuits and gravy. Both were delicious. We also had to try the French toast because we heard it was to die for. It was excellent, too. Sounds run-of-the-mill; it is anything but! Everything tastes amazing, especially the Hodgepodge potatoes. After months of waiting for it to open, finally had breakfast there this morning. Ordered from the lunch menu tho (only because they are yet to offer sugar free syrup for my pancakes)....no big deal still worth it. My first time here, will not be my last, in fact it will be my place to bring visiting friends as well as my GO TO BREAKFAST/LUNCH place. The ambiance is a reflection of the owners family & friends. Big sturdy tables that fit 4 comfortably. Now the food! I had a create your own omelette of several fresh veggies & ham. It was SO good! And beautifully plated with their seasoned potatoes ( delicious flavor) I was there at 6am when they opened & the home made biscuits weren't ready, but I did get to taste their flavorful sausage gravy. The coffee was solid diner coffee. The owner visited my table & we talked about her journey to reach her dream of owning a restaurant. She is going to crush it with this food, ambiance, customer care & drive to touch each table. She values every customer's feedback, and plans to offer more food as the restaurant evolves. I also got to talk to the chef Jerry, very passionate about everything that cones out of the kitchen. There are several family run restaurants in this area, many very good ones. I feel Cafe Hodgepodge will be a welcomed addition and complement the other dining options available. But this place will lead the pack! I suggest you get in there before the winter visitors return, it will be standing room only when that happens. read more

Wonderful B&G. Gravy was perfectly peppered. I asked if I could have a banana for my fruit and they accommodated me as they normally use the bananas for baking. The menu was perfect size with 25 to maybe 30 items. The staff and owner were just wonderful. Hope this new 2 month old restaurant sticks around. I went in last Saturday to try this new breakfast joint I found in Mesa. They have all the classic breakfast items, including my favorite pancakes, but I tried posole into my surprise. It was amazing all the ingredients were authentic, but the included beans, which is new for me, but took my taste buds to a different level. I ordered an omelette with three items. None of which was cheese but there was cheese in the omelette ( menu does not say cheese is included and I am dairy free). They did offer to remake it. It came with really greasy soggy potatoes. My husband ordered the waffles, which were soggy (premade and reheated maybe?) and had zero flavor. Bacon tasted sour. OK, I've been wanting to try this place for a bit since I first saw it online about a month ago when you guys opened. Definitely some room to grow. I paid 1595 for chicken fried steak and potatoes and a little bowl of watermelon. My wife and I had those first of all the potatoes came out and they weren't cooked all the way second of all, it doesn't come with what you normally would expect to come with And yes, maybe I should write a little more detail. There was no toast and usually there's a chicken fried steak and eggs so honestly, there were couple fried eggs and toast would've been worth the 1595 other than that chicken fried steak was good well done, but while I was waiting for my potatoes Chicken fried steak got cold. I don't expect everything life for free and maybe I should read more of the menu and see what's not included but if you take out the watermelon, you had a few potatoes and a piece of chicken fried steak. I don't think it was worth 1590. Honestly, after I had to wait for a new batch of potatoes and my chicken fried steak got cold I honestly was expecting them to take it off. I ate the pesto pasta. I ate less than half so i requested a box to go. I was given the stirofoam box without them even offering to put it in a plastic bag. Unfortunately i was also in the middle of dealing with my medical insurance so i didn't ask for one. Do we really need to ask for one? Couldn't that be part of excellent thoughtful customer service? Needles to say, as i opened the car door the flimsy box opened with all the food spilling over my clothes, my suede purse, the car seat. Presto has lots of oil... my expensive purse is ruined! They did let me use a wet towel with sanitizer to help clean things up but that doesn't help the oil stains on my purse, car seat, and clothes plus more than half the serving of my food! At those prices i would think they can afford to give us a plastic bag for our food to go! read more
