Great service, tasty dish, delish coffee (salty coworker Ambiance - Speak a litlte louder than inside voice for your table conversations. There is a readon this place is continuously packed (rsvp is allowed before arriving). Great spot for brunch, only open until 3 on Sundays.

I've always enjoyed coming here with my family. It has a neighborhood feel and the service is quick.

One of my favorite spots in Austin. This location specifically. The staff always attentive and friendly. They always have great specials listed on the chalkboard in the back of the restaurant. My go-to breakfast is their house coffee and the java special. I like to sub the toast for biscuits and add a small side of gravy. They also have free Wi-Fi that works really well if you want to come in eat, have coffee and work a bit. Anywho, anytime I'm on this side of town, This is my go-to spot no matter what.

It is a cute "diner style" restaurant. It feels like home the moment you walk in. What I love the most is they have so many speciality coffee options. If you work remotely, and want to get out to get some work done, I would recommend Java. They also have a small area outside for sitting.

I'm rarely up in North Austin, but recently had the opportunity to try this neighborhood spot. My date told me he's come here several times already, and I would later find out that it's popular! Luckily we got there before the lined formed, and got seated in their last cozy booth table. The coffee menu intimidated me as someone with regular choice paralysis at specialty coffee shops. They have multiple seasonal options as well as signatures. I decided on the hot cookie butter latte because it was chilly that morning (funny considering 7 days later it's way hotter). For food, I asked the server's opinion and he suggested the Greek Omelet over the Ham & Cheese. What a perfect recommendation! I got my hashbrown AND pancake fix (thanks to my date who shared his sides), because we don't have Waffle Houses in Austin. I also wanted to spread my biscuits with peanut butter instead of the tableside fruit jams, and our server again helped out & delivered a sizable small tub of peanut butter. I felt bad that I couldn't use all of it but whatever brand they have, I need it! Overall, this experience reminds me of the brunch places I used to go to all over Atlanta. I'm not sure if the influencers have found this yet - I hope they don't. It's so uniquely neighborly and old timey diner vibes, that their promotion would render it inauthentic.

I've come to cafe Java twice now for breakfast and think it's a solid breakfast spot. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is solid but there's nothing too special about it. I've ordered omlettes and pancakes and they certainly hit the spot but in Austin there are so many speciality restaurants that sometimes a very decent breakfast spot can't compare as strongly. I wish I could rate this spot a 3.5 because it's solid and I'd come back but there's just nothing super special about it. Coffee is good and sweet and lots of fun flavors.

Love Cafe Java! A very cute and local Austin spot that is always very busy. Wait time is usually 15-20 minutes on a weekend for brunch but it's always well worth it. Think diner vibes and that's what you get at Java! I love their coffee and breakfast tacos as well as their platters. My favorite thing about Java is that the service is always incredible and prices are on the cheaper side

Came as a place of recommendation. This place was decent, fair prices, good service, fast food. I will say portions are generous. This place is pretty busy, I would say though, for the location, I'm surprised it's so busy. I will have one thing to say though, it's pretty on par with other places I've gone, nothing really special. Does feel like a mom and pop shop though

On our continued hunt for a cheap and delicious breakfast place we found ourselves at Cafe Java. We've taken their coffee to go many times but never fully sat down so we were very excited. The restaurant does get packed very frequently so we put ourselves on the waitlist through Google. When we arrived we were seated immediately, skipping a line of 5+ parties (it pays to prepare). Upon sitting down we were greeted (kinda, not really) by our waitress who was very low energy and avoidant. She took our orders through a handheld device and didn't lift her eyes up one time during the process. We ordered a corn beef hash platter, the French toast, and cinnamon rolls. Our food came out extremely quickly despite how busy the restaurant was which was nice to see. To sum the food up: it was not good. The corn beef hash tasted like they uncanned it and grilled it for 30 seconds before plating it. The hash browns were average, the eggs a bit below. The French toast was not good, lacking any flavor or real depth to the actual bread, as well as the bacon looked crispy but somehow was not. We had very high hopes for the cinnamon rolls but were met with the laziest excuse for one we have ever seen. The roll itself is large and coated with very little icing and a ton of strawberries (why???). It tasted like a hint of cinnamon and pretty much capped off what we were feeling about the food to that point anyway. Throughout our time there our server didn't check on us once, not even to refill our cups of coffee. When it was time for the bill and to collect her tip was the only time she showed any real enthusiasm to come over. Maybe it was a series of unfortunate events, maybe it was an off day. Either way it's safe to assume we will not be back to try Cafe Java out again.

Delicious Mexican Latte and great meal

Great food and great coffee and great little place . I will visit again when I'm in Austin .

    java breakfast

Food was really good. Got the java and hot coffee. Really surprised with my server she was an older lady. Sat down and didn't seem too friendly when she approached me. Got my order and half way through i needed to run so i asked for my check & a box which another server got for me. She came by my place didn't ask how anything was and grabbed my plate and about to put trash on top of my food, which i stopped her. Just disappointing when you can't even ask if I needed a box to go and assumed i was done.

It was nice but nothing special. They cover the basics and you get what you ask for. I also got a specialty coffee which was nice, they have more coffees and flavors than I've ever seen available. Service was nice too. Be prepared for a wait on the weekends. The place is pretty small.

    The Java breakfast.

I ordered the migas, and the amount of onions in the dish was overwhelming--so much so that it felt like I had ordered a plate of onions rather than migas. The masa cakes were definitely the standout item and were absolutely delicious. However, the rest of the dish fell short. The sauce was extremely rich, making it difficult to enjoy or finish the meal. That said, the restaurant itself is adorable, and our waiter was fantastic. The service and atmosphere were both great. While this breakfast wasn't a hit for me, I'll still return and stick with favorites like the fried green tomatoes and taquito salad, which were excellent during my previous visit.

From the moment we walked in, the hostess gave us a warm welcome, and we were seated right away. It took our server a little while to get to our table, but she arrived with waters in hand, which was appreciated. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were good, though I've definitely had better back home in Houston. For my entrée, I ordered the Badass Bacon Plate, and it absolutely hit the spot. Everything on the plate was delicious, from the thick-cut slab of bacon to the perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. I especially appreciated that the eggs were seasoned before cooking, something I don't often see at restaurants, and it really made a difference. The hash brown casserole was also fantastic and tied the whole meal together. My brother ordered the fried chicken biscuit and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Although our server was clearly very busy, the restaurant had a great team approach. Other staff members checked on us, refilled drinks, and made sure we had everything we needed, so we never felt neglected. Overall, it was a great dining experience with delicious food, friendly hospitality, and excellent teamwork. I would definitely recommend Phoebe's Diner if you're looking for a satisfying breakfast or brunch in Austin.

The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit. My daughter and I both ordered the chicken fried chicken, and she substituted the collard greens for mac and cheese. The sausage gravy served with the chicken fried chicken was a little unexpected, but I actually enjoyed the subtle kick of spice it had. The collard greens weren't for me, but that's more of a personal preference since I've never been a fan. The mac and cheese, however, felt like it was missing something. Maybe it was the blend of cheeses, but it wasn't the classic, ooey-gooey diner-style mac and cheese we were hoping for. My brother ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffles had a fermented aroma and tangy flavor that caught us off guard. After speaking with the manager, she explained that they're made with a sourdough batter. While that may appeal to some people, it just wasn't his favorite. Overall, we had a good experience thanks to the outstanding service and welcoming atmosphere. The food simply didn't match our personal tastes. That said, the restaurant was absolutely packed, so they're clearly doing something right. Not well prepared, but not the end of the world, right? Here's the thing: there was an unmistakable flavor of rubber and/or plastic. This was the predominant flavor. I simply couldn't eat it. Maybe a wrapper or some other foreign item was inadvertently added. The small dish of watermelon, strawberry and pineapple was ok. This, with tip, was $65.00 just had water to drink.
