Can we please get some music that is free of commercials? An XM radio subscription could be streamed via smartphone to a cheap bluetooth equipped amp to drive the existing speakers. We used to go here for brunch pre-pandemic when we managed to get up early enough (by 9:30 or 10 the wait was really long, like 30 minutes to an hour). Since we've started getting up at 5AM so we can row early to beat the heat and traffic we wake up earlier even on weekends, so we managed to get here before 9 and only had a 5 minute wait! The food is here is tasty and plentiful. My favorite was the California omelet, which is surprising since there's no meat, just cheese and veggies, and I'm usually a meat eater. Today they had a new special which we got in addition to the California. The sincronizadas with corn tortillas, eggs, avocado, tomato, and pulled pork was really tasty, and the serving size was gigantic, even compared to the usual generous serving sizes here. Everything else was just as tasty as I remember as well, and the service was as fast as it used to be. There were just two negatives to brunch here today. On a minor down note, the sausage/egg/cheese breakfast taco I got had pretty meager innards... only half as much as I remember. Hopefully this was just a minor glitch and not the result of cost-cutting or something. The other negative thing was a lot worse. It used to be that the clientele was relatively old and fat, so I always felt young and athletic when we went here by comparison. Today the customers all seemed to be younger and skinnier than they used to be, so I felt older and fatter... I guess it could be I'm older and fatter... nah, that can't be it, they must have gotten a younger, hipper customer base. read more

Have you ever had a breakfast taco with an over easy egg? No? Try it. Our server recommended it when we had no idea what to get. And it was perfect. I got mine with potato, bacon, egg & cheese and it was chefs kiss! The other combos we did was avocado/egg/potatoes, avocado/chorizo/egg, chorizo/refried beans. Everyone hypes up the breakfast tacos and I can see why. We also had the French toast and a pancake. I would say the French toast was good and better than the pancakes, as the pancake was a bit dry. Normally I get black coffee but I tried the cappuccino instead. It was on the milkier side in terms of flavor and the froth was extremely foamy. Even though we no longer live in Austin, this is always a must. Why? Regardless of which location, the service and food is always consistently wonderful.Our waitress was especially engaging and fun to have. My family and her had a great rapport. For breakfast, we had the huevos ranchero,, which is one of our regular go-to choices, and it was delicious as always. Our son enjoyed his kid's meal also and his kicked up hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles. We have been visiting Cafe Java at their RR location for over 10 years and have only been to this location twice, yet we were still remembered by the manager. Instead, I approached the vacant counter, where I told the owner the size of our party (5) and that we were incomplete. "Did you sign in?" she asked. "No". Plop. Spiral notebook and pen. Look up. Oops, I missed a sign. Actually, the corner of the sign for to-go orders above the counter. Waiting room here is sparse: a bench that seats 3, maybe 4 in a pinch plus two spare table chairs. I stare across at a dresser topped with local ad rags and think "That could be another four-top, or at least a two-top." Gazed at their selection of coffee beans. Looked longingly at bottles of coffee syrups that I recognized from Sam's Club. At the edge of the bench, I made fast friends with the gumball machine. We became close. Very close. Friends arrive in two waves about 30 minutes later. We're (thankfully) quickly seated. At the last booth. I sit shotgun at a chair in the aisle on the way to the bathrooms. Lovely way to enjoy breakfast. Is there a fire marshal in the house? Wonderful and caring waitress. Couldn't have asked for more from her. Truly sweet and kind. Can't say enough good things about her. Would go back just for her alone. Orders taken promptly. Food delivered faster than the crowd and logistics could imagine. Only felt slightly rushed. Went back to pay. While waiting, noticed another sign, this time on the counter. Essentially their menu reflects cash price with 3% surcharge for credit. I was buying the table as a surprise and thank-you to my friends. Luckily, I had cash to cover. Good place for breakfast. Would I go back? In a heartbeat. I would give this neighborhood restaurant five stars simply because it's a locally owned, neighborhood hangout. The breakfast menu is always excellent and they do have a good varied menu otherwise. But I wasn't crazy about the chicken salad sandwich, so I can't hold that against them, since chicken salad isn't one of my favorites anyway. But, still, I opted to try it hoping that somebody could change my mind about chicken salad. My dining partner had the chicken salad on lettuce and he proclaimed that it was very good. My friend suggested that I try this place while visiting...super happy I did! Came here on a Saturday morning so there was a bit of a wait. Plenty of seating outside so waiting wasn't bad. I ordered the ultimate migas and an orange juice! My food was served super fast! The migas was a blend of eggs, cheese, corn chips, chorizo, and jalapeños which I opted out of. It was also served with a side of hash browns, refried beans, and a corn or flour tortilla. It was super delicious! The corn chips gave the meal a nice crunch and salty balance! The salsa (which is served on the side) gave it a nice kick of heat! The beans were a great addition and the crispy hash browns added extra flavor and texture to the dish. Service was really good and each person that visited the table was friendly and attentive! Prices were extremely reasonable for the portion sizes!! The decor was my favorite! It's the neighborhood diner that everyone needs. They're quick to serve, hospitable, food is great and comes quick. Prices are very affordable and you'll leave very full. There's nothing to not like about this place! Everything is priced well and in heaping quantities. Many have raved about the migas here and I agree that it's pretty good. Scrambled eggs, corn chips, tortillas and salsa are all you need. I think the Ultimate ones they have here might be more interesting to cut the heft of everything else on the plate, but the regular ones come with bacon strips too, so take your pick. The beans are good and I normally am not a fan of refried beans, which is another plus. And Oh, those crispy golden hash browns are the stuff of dreams. Hash browns are realistically the best part of any breakfast and what they have here is some of the best you can get. OMG'ness I was swayed by the effusive review of my co-worker who swore that this local dinner was "THE PLACE" for breakfast. So we packed the 6 of us up from the office and drove over to see what she was raving about. The place is in a strip shopping center anchored by a gasoline station and sandwiched between a corner grocery store and FedEx/ups mail drop. If you blink you'll miss it. We were cordially welcomed and ushered to the back table where we were all able to sit together and order our meal. My coworker was very keen on ordering the Caramel Con Panna coffee drink, so I followed her lead, our waitress explained that it was "magical". Since I am not a fan of sweet drinks I was skeptical. I added a breakfast dish with 2 over easy eggs, two pieces of bacon and two biscuits and hash browns. The drink came out first and I was very pleasantly surprised. It was not syrupy sweet and the caramel flavoring could have been from real caramel (I failed to ask) but it was that tasty. The meal came out soon after and I have to say, the eggs were perfect. Soft and the edges were not crunchy! (I am still doing the happy dance because of that.) The thick sliced crispy bacon tasted like it had been cooked in the bacon drippings of several orders of bacon. The biscuits were flat BUT so full of flavor that it made up for the lack of height. The hash browns were crispy and flaky. And when I saw that one of my coworkers had ordered refried beans I had to get a side of that too. They were almost as good as the beans I make at home. (Almost, because I can't throw shade on my own cooking...wink wink.) Boy howdy, this is a place to visit again and again. A hidden gem in North Austin! Found this place on Yelp and decided to try it out. It has become one of my favorite local diners. Delicious food, good prices, and tasty coffee. Don't know what to get? Try migas, omelet, or corned beef hash. Caramel Con Panna Coffee is also amazing. There is a parking lot and though when it's busy, the immediate surrounding spots are full, you can always find a spot to park further down.
