I had the Italian grinder which was excellent, although plan to unhinge your jaw to get it in your mouth... and the broccoli salad is . Soooo glad it had no bacon! Also glad to see it seems the quality hasn't gone down since Covid. If I had to provide an accurate critique, I wish the kid taking my order knew the menu better and that they warmed the bread a bit. It's really good rustic bread but is kinda tough on the roof of the mouth. I also prefer the cured meats a little warmer, at least room temp. So maybe let this one sit in the oven for a min? Lastly, I'm from this area and this family knows better than to make olive tapenade with lye-ripened olives. Wow! What a great place to grab lunch when in West Lafayette. About a mile north of Purdue, this place was packed on a Tuesday. I found the last parking spot in their lot and headed inside. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. I placed my order at the front counter and after paying, gave my name and waited for the pickup counter to call it out. Not the most efficient if people have the same name, but the food came out so quickly that as long as I was paying attention, I could get my food in hardly no time! Fortunately, there were plenty of seats inside, so I sat down with my selections. I went with the Cranberry Walnut Chicken Salad sandwich and the Red Skin Potato Salad as my choice for a side. The sandwich comes served on a rustic Italian bread (fairly thick) and the chicken salad was about an inch deep across the sandwich! No skimping here! The sandwich had just hint of blue cheese for depth to go with the dried cranberries, walnuts, lettuce, and Roma tomato slices. Very hearty and flavorful! The potato salad was excellent! Instead of a mustard base, this creamy coating tasted more like butter. The potatoes were diced and al dente for a nice bite, not mushy. Just right for me! The price for both options was under $10, so very reasonably priced for the amount of food offered. I highly recommend this combo. Oh, and before I forget, the walls are covered with text. Some are informational, some inspirational, and others humorous. It gave me something to look at while waiting for my order or while eating since I was dining by myself. This little cafe has become our go to spot to have a quiet coffee when we visit our daughter on campus. Plenty of seating at both tables and soft chairs. All the tables are regularly sanitized between seatings and the restrooms are super clean! The staff is friendly and happy to bring your order while you stay seated. Seems to be a popular place for students to study in small groups or individually. Standard Covid precautions are enforced. I highly recommend it! read more

In town on business and heard about Cafe Literato and checked it out for lunch. This is definitely a spot that I would both recommend and return to if I were local. The restaurant is open and just a nice space. I liked that you order at the counter and then head up to the pass to get your food from the kitchen. I had the Brick Oven Pork sandwich and a bowl of tomato bisque soup. The sandwich was really good but what put it over the top was that Italian batard bread. Wow. Nice and light/crispy on the outside and soft and moist inside. While the pork was good, all I kept thinking about was replacing the smoked pork with some really good porketta. It would be just killer on that bread. Either way, I'd suggest they hit the sandwich with some pan drippings because the only drawback was that the pork was a little dry. Not to fear, I was dunking it in the bisque, which was delicious...rich, flavorful, and with little bits of crushed tomato left over from the blending process. So good. If you ever find yourself in the region or the 765 mosy on over to Cafe Literato. I only discovered this place my last semester at Purdue which saddens me because they have the best of both worlds : good food and great coffee. On a recent visit up to the good old alma mater I had lunch with a friend who is a vegetarian which worked out well considering they cater to those with food restrictions including meat and gluten. The margherita pizza was pretty to look at it and tasted even better. It has a crispy exterior without a burnt crust. The espresso options are endless and the environment lends itself to a very casual cool laid back establishment where you could catch up with a friend or spend the afternoon cramming for a chemistry test. Cafe Literato is attached to a large church off Northwestern. It has a creative and upscale variety of pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. They also serve coffee and smoothies. I especially appreciate their variety of vegetarian options. I haven't been disappointed with their food when I've eaten here. I've had and can personally recommend the grilled cheese, margherita pizza, shiitake mushroom pizza, and red pepper and feta panini. The atmosphere is also really nice with famous authors' quotes etc on the wall. Great lighting and decoration as well. I haven't yet figured out if this place is attached to a hotel or what, but over all this is a great bistro-type cafe shop that I can have a nice, restaurant style, fancy ish sandwich (so to speak) and some hand crafted espresso drinks. It's closer to my apartment than GreyHouse so I might come here more often. Food wise it isn't too expensive. I had the Italian Grinder and it was delicious, although I had to pick out all the Capicola, just can't tolerate the taste of it.. (Also is it cooked or just raw salted meat? Because that's exactly how it tastes like). Boyfriend had the Ham and Cheese Panini and man that was on of the best grilled cheese I've ever tried, no joke. Strictly reviewing food: the salad was awesome! And my friend got a brick oven pizza and it was delicious as well! Overall review: I like the environment，it's kinda off campus so it's pretty quiet. The only things that are unfavorable are the slow internet and the freezing study rooms, so make sure to bring some extra layers if u are naturally more chilly. I was in town visiting some friends at Purdue, and they suggested that we go here for brunch. It is in a good location, and the inside is very bright and airy. Rather than table service, you order the food and pick it up at the counter, so if you're looking to go somewhere to eat and really be able to talk with friends this is a good place to go. I think the food and prices matched pretty well, but the reason for my 3 stars was because of a pineapple situation. That sounds really weird, I know, but I am allergic to pineapple, so I asked about what fruit came in the seasonal fruit cup. Being allergic to pineapple sucks because it's so yummy, but I just can't have it. They said that there is pineapple in the fruit cup, so I asked if I could have double of whatever other fruit they were feeling instead of pineapple. When I got my fruit cup, they ended up still putting pineapple in it and charging me for a whole other fruit cup even though my sandwich was supposed to come with one. I was really confused and also worried because if someone was more allergic than me and ended up with pineapple, that could be a really big problem :( The food and coffee were good, but I was a bit put off by the whole experience when I went up to the counter to tell the person ringing what happened and she seemed very reluctant to have the manager come over to try to do a refund. I ended up just passing it off and deciding that I probably wouldn't go back. read more

I'm a student at Purdue, and Cafe Literato is my friends' and I go-to place for a delicious off-campus lunch or dinner. Their sandwiches never disappoint, always flavorful and fresh. They also have awesome pizza, with plenty of interesting (and delicious flavors). It's only about a mile from campus, and also includes a student-friendly study space in the building its attached to. Love, love, love this place! First, the coffee. Great! Strong and to the point. No frou frou "coffee" concoctions here. If you plan on staying a while, they put your coffee in a lovely large mug and decorate it with latte art. I like the small details :) Second - the food... what can I say? So dang good! Their pizzas are made fresh, cooked in a brick oven, and you crave one as soon as you walk through the door! They are personal pizzas, so if you plan on sharing, you might want to get another pizza ;) Their sandwiches are also to die for. I never really "crave" sandwiches, but I would drive to Cafe Lit to buy a sandwich. The mac and cheese is also delish! Last - the ambiance. Great for studying..sometimes. The restaurant has limited plugs and it gets super crowded at meal times, so I just go to Faith West next door and they have some study rooms and tables available. While passing through my favorite college town a couple of months ago I decided to check out this place after seeing the great reviews on here. I'm so glad to find a new, casual, delicious place in West Lafayette! Located a little off of the beaten path just to the northeast of campus, this cafe is located inside what looks to be a Christian-based apartment building of some sort. It offers a good sized menu of pizzas, salads, sandwiches, coffee drinks, and few baked goods. I recommend the chili lime chicken salad and a chai latte. Follow it up with a s'mores bar and you have yourself an excellent lunch! They also have open and private study areas just behind the main restaurant side. Looking forward to making this one of my new go-to places when I'm visiting Purdue! read more

I have to say I was pretty impressed with this place. It's cozy and 'coffee' shop like but nice enough for a dinner really. It has the same order, sit, pick up order framework as Panera. It's much better than Panera though. The pizzas are really good (and fresh, which is a large part of good) with interesting topping choices without being too freaky. The tomato soup was great, I also got a latte which was good. I ordered a side of fruit thinking I'd get one of those 3 oz ramikans of fruit and instead got a serious soup bowl of fruit, which is exactly what I want for how much those fruit bowls cost! Overall, I like this place! I need to go back for breakfast and a morning coffee sometime. It's walking distance from my house and there is a community playground behind so I have a feeling I'm going to be their #1 weekend coffee offender. P.s. I was pleasantly surprised by my visit to Cafe Literato. When I heard about a cafe in a church, I expected it to be little more than a counter off the churches' lobby. I was also a little bit weary of visiting a church that I don't belong to (and don't have interest in joining). But after a nice lunch, I'm sure I will return. The concept is kind of a trendy Panera. Actually, it reminded me more of the chain Cosi, which I have enjoyed in Chicago and other cities. The menu focuses on Sandwiches, Salads, and Pizzas. They also have coffee, lattes, and other hot and cold drinks. You order at the register, and pick up when its ready at a long counter open to the kitchen. The staff was helpful and friendly- recommending items and clearing our plates when we were done (since it was a slow time of day). I ordered the "Pressed Ponto" sandwich, which was a panini with grilled zucchini, eggplant, pickled beets, feta, and garlic aioli. It was really really delicious. Great, colorful veggies and flavorful sauce. Like, so good, I'm going to try to re-create it at home because am craving it again. There were lots of other great sounding menu items but I would be hard pressed to order something else next time. It came with a choice of side- I had a nice broccoli salad. Good portions and well executed. The atmosphere was really great. Lots of natural light, and very well decorated. I'm told that the Christo's family (who also own Red Seven) run this restaurant, and the decor, while more casual, is similar to Red Seven. Very tastefully modern with lots of textures. I can definitely see myself hanging out here- especially since there is plentiful seating- the cafe extends into a common area that even has little private meeting rooms- would be great for study groups or work outings. Although it is attached to the church, there was really no indication of the church in the restaurant (aka they won't try to save you just because you're eating there). I've had their rustic ham & cheese panini, brick oven pork sandwich,smoked bbq pork & corn pizza, fig and pear pizza and the mediterrano pizza on various occasions. All highly recommended! I've always enjoyed their soups as well. Prices are really reasonable and I've heard their coffee is nice too. Great new find near campus. My husband ordered a sandwich and it was just average, nothing compared to my pizza which was amazing (I cannot find it in the menu, it had a funny name, wonder if they changed the menu in just a couple of weeks?). Either way, If you are going to come here, do it for the pizzas and the atmosphere: very cozy and relaxed. I also ordered a strawberry smoothie, a bit sweet but good. Sad to report that this normally 5 star cafe has recently upgraded their system and with that changed their menu, or rather the times when they serve breakfast pizzas. We stopped in there yesterday around 2:20 pm after an exhilarating walk in Happy Hollow Park to get our usual breakfast pizza only to be told that they stop serving breakfast items at 10:30 am. So disappointed with their new decision and hope they reconsider. Rather than go over to Christo's for breakfast (didn't want to reward them) we went to the Westside Diner for an afternoon breakfast Just for they closed for the day. read more
