I live in Brooklyn but have several doctors in this area. After each visit, my wife and I make sure we come here either for a late breakfast or lunch. We are NEVER disappointed. Whether it's a grilled chicken sandwich, an open turkey sandwich with cheese and tomatoes, Cobb salad, burgers, pancakes or omelets, the food is delicious and the portions are big. I am also quite impressed with all the waiters. They are friendly and attend to all your dining needs which include making sure my coffee cup is never empty. Perhaps, a small issue for some but at some restaurants I seem to be forgotten when I'm in need of a refill. Finally, I couldn't finish this review without mentioning John and Mark, the brothers who own the restaurant. They are all over the place greeting and schmoozing with the customers making them feel special. They have been in the business for a long time and certainly know what they are doing. I came to this little dinner close to him and today I had a little bit issue with the owner I was on the phone spoke very soft with my fiancé , other costumer complain and looking me bad make me uncomfortable. When I asked to the owner about if I m allowed to used my phone he said he had a careful after 12 noon with no allowed to used phone very rare for my expected.. two days ago I came to cafe luka and the owner make inappropriate comment about my doc with us emotional support so he mentioned to me he need emotional support as well if I can help . Cafe Luka is definitely less of a cafe and more of a diner. The restaurant has a wide selection of breakfast and lunch foods, but the prices are a little higher than you'd like (however, in line with typical UES pricing). Even though the restaurant is not totally gluten free, the menu has quite a few gluten free options, including pancakes, bagels, and sandwiches. The food is average (I tried a bagel and a turkey club sandwich) but the portions are decently sized and you probably won't leave hungry. read more

Cafe Luka is special. There aren't many places left in NYC like this where the owner greets you at the entrance and remembers you the next time you're there. I've known both owners of this restaurant for many many years and their experience has paid off in the newly renovated place. The food is still great and the atmosphere is beautiful. I went to Weill Cornell and needed a good place to park myself for an hour and have some good food but where? We came across cafe Luka and we weren't disappointed. The food was good, but the service --I think it's the owner--is impeccable. I was just complaining to my husband about Lansinoh and their terrible customer service (another story) and here's this guy (owner?) going around table to table topping off coffee, sayin a few words, asking if anyone needed anything--and being attentive. Wow. I. Am. A. Fan. The only reason I did 4 stars instead of 5 is because I told the waiter I can't have onions and my dish came with home fries cooked in onions. New Look Same Great Food and Atmosphere!!! Recently moved to Fla. and actually the only part of my everyday life I missed was my breakfast's at Cafe Luka. I came back to the eastside and my first "nosh" was with the gang at Luka. They moved!!!! One door down...lol. Place looks cool and my only concern was..."Hows the food"? A diner for picky eaters! They'll accommodate me no matter how annoying I am: almond milk for coffee, egg whites for my omelette, gluten-free bread, whatever I ask for. Service is brusque but efficient and the ambience isn't special or anything - but it's good, affordable diner food. read more

I do not recommend the burger options here. I ordered mine medium but you would've thought it was well-done. My friend ordered his well-done so maybe I got caught in the crossfire of his poor decision making. The burger was just very very tasteless, and too charred. Staff was friendly and quick. I was walking home with my daughter in the stroller and ordered a BLT for pickup. Not only was it ready ASAP, but they could not have been more helpful/accommodating in bringing my order to me, running my card, and making it as easy for me as possible since I wasn't traveling light and it was very busy. The free cookie was an added bonus, but the sandwich was great) from someone who knows their way around a BLT) and the owner could not have been friendlier. I went here on Memorial Day morning with some friends. I like the decor of the place and the service was pretty good. However, the food was not so good. I ordered eggs benedict. Eggs Benedict is a difficult dish to make however, if it is difficult then it shouldn't be attempted. One yolk was runny like it should be but the other one was pretty much hard boiled. I didnt realize that until I finished the first one. Very disappointing. The potatoes that came with it were just bland. The best thing I had that day was the coffee. What a shame. Unfortunately I'm not on that side of town enough to give it another chance. read more

Please pass this place by service and food were horrible. I had two eggs over with Pastrami 13 dollars and sent back twice and finally gave and just ate my daughter's burnt toast up. My sisters bacon uneatable so hard she refused to eat it. My daughters western omelette was so dry the ketchup couldn't save it. The staff are all extremely unpleasant and absent after your orders taken. 51 dollars for three crappy breakfast please save your money and walk past this restaurant. read more

Ordered lunch here after having surgery. Really was craving a good grilled chicken sandwich-although I know those aren't such an amazinG, decadent food, I was in the mood for protein and carbs on the lighter side since I had just come off anesthesia. The restauRant is located across from my aparrfment so it was easy for my husband to go pick up the food. What I got for 17 dollars was absurd. My order was a grilled chicken sandwich on toasted rye bread with lettuce, tomato (extra .50), and honey mustard on the side. The order came as a dry, enormous piece of chicken over two soggy, whole wheat(or maybe rye that did not taste like standardd rye) slices of bread. No honey mustard. Lettuce and tomato haphazardly throWn in container. The one positive is the amount of chicken they gave- unsliced, huge slab, was enough for 2 sandwiches so there was leftover. They left out the honey mustard but I was so tired I didn't care. The sandwich that I had to put together for 17 dollars was so dry. You'd think for that amount of money they could at least put the chicken on the bread and slice it. Also, whY would I get a tomato to have it just thrown in the container and not placed on sandwich for me? Sandwiches are to diners as garlic knots are to a pizza place! I'll give credit for the fries that didn't come with it, had to order side of for 8.95. Will look elsewhere for my diner sandwich next time. read more

While the name of the place implies association with a cafe, it is definitely more of a diner. It has an expansive menu that is almost certain to offer something for everyone. It's your typical NYC diner. That could be a good or bad thing depending on your experience at diners in the city. The food isn't orgasm-worthy, but it's good.
