Amazing atmosphere! This is a GREAT place for a data night or other special occasion. Seated looking out over a snowy Loring Park this was the most romantic dinner I can recall in a long time. We went for Restaurant Week, so ordered off the fixed price menu, but added on some items. The pear salad was a delicious way to start of the meal, the dressing really makes this salad shine. My pork chop was perfectly prepared, and while the sauce was not my favorite, the meat itself was very flavorful. My wife's salmon was equally good. Desserts were really good. The honey cake was like nothing I've had before, but remarkably good. The little touches in each dish made them special. Our server was very attentive, while also giving us plenty of space to just enjoy the evening. Dinner wasn't cheap--even Restaurant Week--but this place is worth the splurge. read more

No matter how you pronounce "Lurcat," they are serving some amazingly delicious food! We visited on a sunny weekend evening and sat outside. The waitstaff was amazing and so attentive. We took advantage of the 4:30-5:30 pm "happiest hour" where great appetizers will set you back only $6 each. We shared a number of dishes including delicious beef short rib lettuce wraps that consisted of wonderfully spiced and tender short rib with crispy lettuce and pickled carrots. We also shared the sugar and cinnamon mini doughnuts that surpassed any you've had at the Minnesota State Fair. Off the bar menu we ordered the sea bass and shared that entree of delicious buttery perfectly crisped edged sea bass. My dining partner lovingly called it "fish candy" and that was most certainly accurate. The happy hour drink menu included beer, wine, and cocktail choices. The Caipirinha cocktail (Brazil's national drink) was delicious- citrusy and fruity. A must try from the happy hour menu. I can't wait to visit again! read more

So got to say was kinda blown away by the food and service. Everything we ate was great. The short ribs with polenta for instance could be the best version of that dish I've ever had. Really balanced and the hints of spice were perfect. Those that know, know polenta needs to cook for hours to bring out the flavor. And this had that. I had their miso special and while it was a bit plain and straightforward it was perfectly cooked, sauced just right, and the "slaw" salad that came with it was a perfect balance to the sweetness of the cod glaze. Donuts for dessert....doughnuts are not doughnuts and these were spectacular. I could be wrong but I detected a slight flat bottom which implies they made these in small batches in a pan. The prices are steep but based on quality of food probably in line with what you should expect. So why not 4 or 5 stars? Well when I sat down I sat they add 21pct service charge. So what? Nothing wrong with that and I'd happily pay that for a tip. When I confirmed with my waiter he said "well that goes to the restaurant and not the severs. If you tip on top of that we actually get that tip. We don't really see any of that service charge." I have no problem paying 44 dollars for a piece of cod with a small salad when it's this good. But to then add 21 pct on top? Then I have to pay another 20pct on top of that to too my hard working servers? WTF??? read more

A great date night spot in the cities. We love their mini donuts for dessert, just like the state fair! A great cocktail program, we love dropping into the bar for a impromptu date night. There is a room you can rent upstairs for private events, though it can be a noisy space as you can hear the rest of the restaurant. read more

This was my first time at Cafe Lurcat and I was quite impressed. We decided to dine here for a combined restaurant week and birthday celebration. Right away the service was great and welcoming. We settled in with drinks and ordered from the special menu for the evening. I started off with the apple cheese salad. This simple salad made from shredded apples, white cheddar, chives, and pepper was absolutely delicious. Sweet and a little salty. Very refreshing. Next came the steak, cooked medium-rare. Tender and paired perfectly with the potato purée (fancy word for mashed potatoes). For dessert, I ordered the dark chocolate fudge bar. This comes with coconut graham crackers, a toasted marshmallow on top, and crème anglaise. So rich that I definitely needed the coffee to go with it. Overall a nice meal. I am blown away by this amazing establishment. My colleague and I are in Minneapolis for a conference and decided to try Cafe and Bar Lurcat. It literally exceeded both of our expectations. First, the ambiance is incredible. The restaurant is cozy, sophisticated, warm, and inviting. The staff is so welcoming and accommodating, and the food is outstanding. We had the Apple, Cheese, Chive salad, and Miso Sea Bass, and let me tell you, it was amazing. Both my colleague and I felt like this was one of the best meals we've had ever. I may need to move to Minneapolis to be closer to this wonderful restaurant but for now, it will give me one more excuse to come back to visit. While the apple manchego cheese was great as usual and the fried rice was terrific the salmon entree was dry and pedestrian. Went there last night for a business dinner. Thought it was a "sophisticated" dinner spot. We were hosting clients and they sat a family of four behind my main client. They were dressed in sweatpants, backwards hats and had two toddlers. The two toddlers cried the entire time impacting our nice dinner and conversation. Food was very mediocre and presentation was not up to par. I would not recommend this place for a business dinner. Find a better restaurant to entertain clients. I've been coming here for years and I can't believe I never wrote anything. They're upscale looking, great white decor, nice location where park is right in front and the beautiful church on the other, it is a great place for romantic date since you have such good options of walking places post dinner for digestive purposes if you are practical or for romance. 1. Reservation If you come at peak time for dinner, yes, you will need reservation. They're quite busy. If you come after 8 pm for say drinks, you can just walk in. 2. Food/drinks Amazing. Look at all my pictures.. salivating. Occasionally the dessert can be way too sugary, but still edible. As far as drinks go, they have pretty good selection of wine. Mixed drinks are not that good. I like old fashioned and theirs is one of the bad ones given the price. I would recommend sticking with wine here. 3. Service Great. I never had bad experience here. Also, provides no incentive for helpful service. There is also little value. It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect some vegetables at prices that are around $40 for an entrée. The only add-on is free water. The salmon and beef tenderloin were both tasty and well prepared and were good inspirations to try making variations at home. We love coming here for date night - $50 per couple! But today was not a good night! We were served our dinner and the vegetables were not served till after we finished eating, about 15-20 minutes after our entrees were served. Service has been terrible, very delayed! The waitress seems to be scattered all over the place. For this reason, I am leaving 3 stars. The food was excellent! They didn't charge us for the vegetables since it was so delayed but we expected to have a nice balanced dinner since the portions are smaller on this specific date night menu. We always start out with their fresh bread. The only place where I am willing to eat bread! Freshly baked with delicious butter! Even the butter is so delicious! We had the ceviche for appetizers, excellent starter with avocado and lime sauce. Entrees included the miso bass( since they ran out of the salmon) and the hanger steak. This was our first time here. We sat in the dining room area. The view and space was nice. The service was very good. We started with a couple signature cocktails that were both good. Then we had the small plate octopus, which was above average, then we had the Burrata salad which was very good. I had the signature Cod (just half size, but would have ordered the entire plate if I'd known how small the piece was going to be) and my GF had the Korean BBQ salmon. Both dishes were very good. I prefer better quality and smaller portions vs large portions and lower quality. We also had the Brussels sprouts to share. The main dishes only come with a small side of cucumber salad or nothing at all. The presentations were very nice, the flavor was also better than average. So I'd rate the food pretty high. I would recommend this place, however I'll say that the prices are a bit high, especially for the size of the portions. Again, prefer smaller portions, but would expect the pricing to be in line with that. For that meal the total was $225 for 2. That does include their 22% service charge (or tip charge). I think the view would be better during holidays or things like that. Being right next to the open kitchen was a bit loud, but overall not bad. Love this area in Loring Park. The views of the Walker and sculpture garden at night are beautiful. There is great people watching in the during the summer as well, because there are large floor to ceiling glass windows. This is a neighborhood gem of a restaurant all tucked away inside the city corner. I recommend coming here for the atmosphere, (romantic) and food (rotating amazing flavors)! Most of my visits here were date nights. I often will chose whatever seafood option they have available. The sides will also be seasonal, but you can never go wrong. Don't come here in your sweat pants, this place is classy white napkin service style. Also, please save room for dessert. I recommend the milk chocolate bar! First visit to Minneapolis this weekend, and hands down the BEST meal of the trip was at Cafe Lurcat. A beautiful restaurant in a beautiful location. While there were 6 of us enjoying a 'gals night out, this could easily be a perfect romantic date night locale. From the moment we walked through the door of this lovely restaurant, through the desert, it was just a wonderful experience. The front of the house and wait staff are friendly and professional. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine list and help to guide us based on our inquiries and taste preferences. And the food really exceeded expectations. Appetizers. We shared the Steak Tartare and Artisanal Cheese Plate. The preparation of the Steak Tartare was outstanding. The Cheese plate was not the most inventive I've had, but it was fine albeit portions were smaller than expected. In retrospect, we should have ordered more than 1 of each for 6 of us, but since we knew we were going big on the side dishes, it really did suffice. Dinner Plates. 3 of us had the Miso Black Cod (next to the Miso Black Cod at Nobu, this is the best preparation I've had), 2 had the Korean Barbeque Salmon and 1 had the Kurobuta Pork Chop. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the main course. Not a scrap left on anyone's plate. Vegetables. We ordered one of each -- Roasted Cauliflower, Lucrat Fries, Asparagus, and Baby Potato. Honestly, if you go, just order all 4. They are worth the splurge. Desert. We had a late reservation so it wasn't all of a surprise that they were out of the Warm Cinnamon-Sugar Donuts. But we enjoyed Basque Cheesecake and Cafe Mocha. There was 1 desert that was not a hit, and that was the StarwberryRhubarb Galette. Truth be told, I've never had Rhubarb before, so I'm not the best critic. But I did find it to be a bit overwhelmingly sweet. Others at the table also did not care for it. Luckily, one person in our group loved it, and polished of the plate. So take my review for what it is worth. If I find myself back in Minneapolis, I would not hesitate to visit Cafe Lurcat again. Cafe Lurcat, you have my vote for one of the best restaurants in Minneapolis. Service at Lurcat is on another level than other good restaurants I've been to in the area. This amazing service also spans to happy hour and Date Night. In the dining room, several servers all come over at once to set your food down. Silverware and even drink ware is replaced between courses and bottles of wine. The food is also fantastic. My go to dishes are the classic apple, cheese, and chive salad, cauliflower, and mini doughnuts. For entrees, I love the salmon with black rice. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with anything you ordered... The Sunday Date Night menu is the best deal in town. $50 for 2 people for an appetizer, entree, and dessert (each), with impeccable quality and delicious options. Adam H. and I always get different things so we can have a taste of the others' options. I think the portions may be a little smaller than normal, but there is still PLENTY of food. Bottles of wine under $100 are also half off. The regular menu is a little expensive for my normal rotation, but for special occasions its totally worth it. Had a business dinner and I fell in love with the Apple cheese and chive salad! OMG it was so good! Our waiter suggested the salad and said it was their most sought after salad. After having I can see why. There were four of us and for starters we had the scallops, baked oysters, crab cake, and the apple cheese chive salad. Scallops didn't have much flavor, the crab cake was alright, the sauce had more flavor than the crab cake itself. I didn't get to try the baked oyster. There were only three pieces. For dinner I opted for the Amish chicken with mushroom risotto. I liked my dish. The risotto was delicious. The service was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We never had to ask for water. Food- NOT good for vegetarians. They have just one rotating entrée that's meatless. The latest one, a broccolini & quinoa dish, was a definite fail (also, the menu said it had mango but it was actually chunks of orange). I asked the waiter if they could do anything else for vegetarians who weren't interested in that one entrée, but they just listed all of the side dishes and salads on the menu. The cheese plate was done well - I was surprised how much I liked the combination of a sharp cheddar with walnuts. My husband said his miso sea bass was exceptional - perfectly cooked with a tasty miso glaze. It's their specialty and a permanent fixture on the menu, per the waiter. (And for $48 for the fish and some cole slaw, it ought to be fantastic.) The Bordeaux was very tasty. Service was nicely done, although I wonder if the kitchen would have done something special for a vegetarian if they had asked. They comped a plate of mini-donuts with a candle, as it was our anniversary. (We saw several of those plates being delivered, so I assume it's what they do for anyone having a celebration.) Ambience was meh. The dining room is a pretty loud space. Also, the chairs at our table were handsome, but the seat cushions badly need replacing- they were sunk in and quite uncomfortable. The bar is more elegant and seemed quieter as we passed through. Parking is a big issue. It was a Tuesday evening and the dining room was half empty, but the metered parking in front of the building and the parking lot next to it were both completely full, and cars were lined up waiting for a spot. We saw a meter maid shooing cars along and taking photos of them with an iPad. Presumably she was also writing tickets. The meters are enforced until late at night, there. A sign said that for $15 they will valet your car. We parked on the other side of Loring Park (meters only until 6PM). By the time we left it was getting dark. We didn't feel too nervous walking through the park, but it's a consideration. read more

Took my GF to Cafe Lurcat last night to celebrate her Birthday. Have not been there for some time and was excited to show her this restaurant too bad it was a total disappointment. Had the Mizo sea bass and it was too sweet to even eat. Our server never checked back (Olivia). When the assistant table clearer offered to clear our unfinished plates she asked how the meal was. We gently told her about our disappointment and she sent the manager over. We again respectfully shared our thoughts and he concurred that the Sea Bass is way too sweet even for his liking. Entrance doors are surrounded by green plants and flowers. Floor windows allow you to have a view outside so you can see when a hummingbird landed on a flower. Interior design is classy and a little bit modern. Chandeliers provide some light without ruining the intimacy and coziness. Korean Barbecue Salmon: very tender and fresh salmon with rich Korean BBQ sauce. Sauce provided some sweet taste which enhanced the umaminess of the salmon. The dish has a little spicy aftertaste which makes the taste more colorful. The ginger crust provided another layer of texture in addition the the tenderness of the salmon. Honestly the best part of the meal was the $8.00 bread. The most disappointing was the 22% surcharge added to the bill before tax. This added $6.00 alone in additional taxes. Typically tips are post tax. The surcharge should be added to each item and listed on the menu, the underwhelming 7% ounce filet at $78.00 would then be priced at $95.00 and you could order accordingly instead of being shocked at the end of your meal. There were four of us for a reservation at 8pm. We waited 20 minutes for a waiter after our menus were delivered. After we ordered appetisers, it took 45 minutes for them to come out. The octopus was awful and tasted days old. The cheese plate was good, the star being the crostini (yay! They aced the toast!). On to the main course. When we got our main course, it was 45 minutes after we ordered, and an hour and a half after we arrived. I ordered the burgers due to my already let down expectations, and the level of difficulty involved with screwing them up. In their defence, they were amazing (Lurcat Burgers)! I would go back just for these but order a few hours ahead of time so they're ready by the time I get there. My girlfriend got the Lamb Meatball Orecchiette. To call it lamb was a lie. Although in the US does not limit lamb age-wise, this was no lamb. This would have been better as a sweater. After being cooked, spiced, and sauced it was still the gamiest meat I've ever tasted. The gaminess overpowered the entire dish. The other two members of our party got the Salmon. They were fairly unimpressed, but it was good. Both sections are beautiful , but I wouldn't wear/feel comfortable in jeans in the dining area very formal. I had a Moscow mule where they give you an option of vodka I would recommend Tito's because it was exceptional even though it didn't come in a copper cup 5/5. For my app I had the short rib lettuce wraps great flavor with a good amount of kick. Would of preferred less rice and a bigger chunk of the short rib I wish it was an option in the dining hall, but bar only 4.5/5. Service was amazing A+! Food was good. Lighting was a shade that can take 10 years off a woman. My complaint is that they put us in the back room which is open to the kitchen. Kitchen staff was very loud at times and the music they had playing was loud and not chill at all. We went there for our 10year anniversary and we're hoping for a more romantic atmosphere. I think we would have liked the front room better. For what we paid I don't think we should have had a hard time hearing each other talk. Pros: Food (!), Drinks (!), Service, Location Cons: Parking, it's too expensive to eat here every week After living in MPS for only 1 year, this became my go-to fine dining spot in MPS. From what I understand, Cafe Lurcat is the 2nd restaurant to be in this spot but I think it's definitely established itself enough so that you can forget about whatever it replaced! The restaurant itself overlooks Lohring Park which makes a great backdrop. Many of the seats have window views and I would definitely recommend asking for a window table. Next door, right when you walk in, is Bar Lurcat. The crowd there is a bit too much Edina for my taste but ah well. Parking is a pain, there is meter spots which are the best but those are often full. So you have to resort to valet parking which is NOT free and can be a bit of a wait when the restaurant is crowded. Ugh. But hey, let's get to the gist of it. The food! the Drinks! I've never ever been disappointed here. From the seafood, to the steak, to the chicken, salads, sides, desserts... everything is really prepared very well, carefully, and with an eye towards the details. Really, its rare to find a restaurant that does all those well. The cocktails also stand out a lot, I actually think the cocktails here are some of the best I've tried in MPS...and that includes Marvel Bar, Prohibition, Parlour, etc. And last but not least, the service really really stands out. I can recall being 10 min late for my reservation and they held my window table without any questions asked. The servers are all very knowledgeable and best of all, excited about the food - which is always great to see. You will also never have to ask for water here. So who should you take here? Well definitely that special someone with whom you want to "seal the deal." Great patio and despite a some traffic noise, Cafe Lurcat is a great spot for outside summer dining. In fact, they have two different outdoor spots - the alley (feels very European and has only a few tables) which is quite private and the larger patio shaded by several mature trees with a bunch more tables. This is where we sat on my most recent visit but I've also enjoyed several meals in the alley. This is a pretty big place so there's usually no problem getting a table (plus they are on Open Table which I like). We enjoyed the very crispy crab cake, a delicious salad with very fresh tasting tomatoes and a pasta with lobster and shrimp. Everything was well prepared and very tasty. During the cocktail hour where we had the back patio all to ourselves I had a couple of glasses of the Mouton Noir Opp (Other People's Pinot) Pinot Noir which was delicious. I liked that we had a personalized dinner menu. The warm complimentary buttered bread was a nice starter. The apple, chives and cheddar salad was light and refreshing. In between the appetizer and main entree, the staff brought out some french fries. They fries were long and salty to perfection. The beef tenderloin was super decadent, but what made it even nicer were the side dishes. The roasted cauliflower, the asparagus and the mash potatoes were so rich with flavor( buttery goodness). The mash potatoes complimented the tenderloin very well. For dessert, I asked for half of the chocolate peanut butter ice cream and half of the strawberry ice cream. We celebrated my husband's birthday here. I ordered from their special/ seasonal Voyage Mexican menu. Since I wasn't too hungry, I got the Calamari Squid Ink Rice with Salsa verde and roasted cauliflower. Both are amazing! The flavor of squid ink is just perfect while the salsa verde refreshes my taste buds. I can eat 2 servings of it but opt to save room for desert. My husband got the grilled hanger steak and he was delighted by how juicy and tender it was. We finished off with their decadent milk chocolate fudge bar and they surprised us with a complimentary delicious warm cinnamon donuts. The restaurant is beautiful and the ambience is lovely. Running away my favorite place in Minneapolis (and I am a frequent business visitor). The setting is lovely. The menu is only modest in size, but the selection is terrific. And the service is absolutely outstanding -- friendly, professional, personal... Almost feel like I'm giving away my little secret by posting here...but it's really worth the visit, and even though it isn't one of the newer, hipper spots, it is ABSOLUTELY worth the trip. read more

Perfect restaurant for a special dinner! First of all, it's a stunning restaurant no matter where you dine. Secondly, service is great. Our waitress was very attentive, described the menu so well my mouth was watering, and was so friendly. Lastly, and most importantly, the food was EXCELLENT! The portions are on the smaller side; you've been warned. However, my bf and I still felt full from our three-course meal. Absolutely terrible. The service was worse than any restaurant I've been to in a long time. I can't accept a COVID excuse on my $1,000 experience. Slow, uninspiring, nobody in charge of the place. Sat at a table that had sun beaming into the eyes of 4 of the party. Nothing really done to help fix that very uncomfortable arrangement. Why is there one west facing window without a shade? The other west windows have shades. I had be here 3 years prior and enjoyed it. But will not return. The food was good, but not good enough to offset the extremely poor service. Very disappointing time for a graduation celebration. 3 hours of waiting. Items forgotten. Waiter disappears for stretches of time. Avoid. Almost like someone has given up on such a beautiful property. Almost felt like some kids took over the restaurant and decided to "play" restaurant for the night. read more
