Trio! Where do I start? I've been coming to Cafe Max ever since I first discovered their location off Wiley Post and Midway. There's so much food! You get a roll or a muffin with your order. I suggest the muffin--it's like spice bread. They also have a spiced iced tea that is yummy! Key note-CASH or CHECK. They don't take the plastic. They also have quiche and soups and sandwiches. Trying to get back to eating "out" post-quarantine. Cafe Max is open for to-go orders only. I ordered my usual, salad trio with chicken, seafood and pasta. Their soup today is curry chicken--my favorite so I couldn't resist. I opted for their muffins instead of the rolls. Everything tasted good and fresh. Their helpings are a good size so I'll be eating this for lunch for a few days. I'm so glad because I was tired of cooking 3 meals a day for two months straight. read more

The restaurant appeared to be closed to dining in. I was there to get the Seafood Salad to go. The seafood salad and chicken salad is very good. Hours of operation are very limited. I can't help but be remind of the Seinfeld "No Soup For You" episode. The lady behind the to go counter told my wife we could not prepay for the seafood salad and the party host pick the salad up. However the party host stated that 3 of her other attendees had been extended that courtesy. Not sure where the let down in the communication came from. I definitely know my wife made two attempts to prepay so the party host would be assured of having enough seafood salad for her party. When I went to pay and pick up seafood salad I noticed there was two white "to go" bags on the shelf behind the cash register with my party host name on them. It felt very much like a "No Soup For You" situation. . When you're good and you know it, sometimes that influences the interactions you have with others. Love that you can get a side, pint or quart - 1/2 and 1/2 or trio. My go to is the Caesar salad, chicken salad and cucumber. The pasta is amazing too! The chicken salad has apples and pears with some sort of vinaigrette - the BEST! Don't forget a brownie for dessert! read more

I thought it was really good, I got the sampler salad platter and I enjoyed all of the salads but probably the pasta and cucumber and tomato salads were my two favorites. It was a lot of food. The sampler had small portions of all 8 salads, and I don't think I would've wanted more of any of the salads (even if I had ordered them on their own). I have been going to Cafe Max for over 12 years. I started with the one in Richardson and recently (3 years) started going to the Plano location. I stopped by the Plano location last week and had the worst experience with the staff (female). I have ordered the same thing at each location over the last 12 years and for some reason that day they would not fulfill my order, even though I offered to pay extra for 3 items but I only wanted 2. I was told I had to take 3 items even if I didn't want the third item. Once again, I was willing to pay for the third item but I did not want to be served it. The lady was rude and a Hispanic male employee told me he's been working for the company for 32 years and they don't accompany my request. Needless to say, I drove over to the Richardson location and they accompanied the request WITHOUT a question. Avoid the Plano location .... RUDE employees! read more

I work about 10 minutes away from Cafe Max and was getting tired of eating the same lunch every day. I did a quick Yelp search on some good food spots near me and came across Cafe Max. Entering the building was kind of confusing since there were two different entrances. I didn't get a good look but it seemed like there was a sit-in restaurant that was separated from the carry-out area. I was greeted by two very kind men who explained to me what they were serving for the day. I ended up ordering a "Salad Trio" which totaled to be around $11.50. I picked the seafood salad, fruit, and pasta. It also came with a muffin! The reviews I read were correct -- the portions were huge! I couldn't finish my food. It was a great price for the portions. I honestly could have split it with someone or even saved it for later. However, the food itself wasn't any amazing. It reminded me of the deli you'd find at a Walmart or any other major grocery store with a deli inside. However, I will say that the muffin was delicious and a great way to end the meal. read more

Today, their dining room is still not open, they said that they don't have enough staff to open the dining room, I wonder if they don't pay them enough which causes the unfriendliness and not enough help? My hubby and I came here for a lunch date. I got the salad trio, in which I got the caesar salad, crab louie salad, and fruit salad. Other options include chicken, pasta salad, and more. Like the other reviews have said, they really fill up the plate with huge portions of each, and it comes with your choice of muffin! Everything was pretty good, and I was able to eat maybe half of it. Just to add, if you are looking to share the pasta/salad trio, there is a charge to split among two people, which is like about $2 (which I think is unnecessary). WIth that being said, my hubby got a ham and cheese sandwich, haha. He enjoyed it! The restaurant is very clean, and the food is served cafeteria style if you are dining in. If you are ordering to go, there is a separate area just for to-go orders, which I think is very smart. The staff here is very nice and friendly. Cafe Max has been one of our favorite restaurants, and our absolute favorite salad spot, for years. We started with the Richardson location and eventually moved our business to the Plano location. One of the remarkable characteristics of Cafe Max has been the consistency of their salads. The chicken salad and Caesar salad have been wonderfully, consistently made for years! Until today. Both salads from Plano were different today. And not in a good way! They simply failed to meet their usual high standards. I wanted to send management an email (and avoid this online review) but they will not accept emails. Only snail mail. Who does that?! Hopefully someone in management will see this review and correct this problem. In a world full of chain restaurants, Café Max is wonderfully unique. For over twenty years, I frequently ate at the Café Max on Midway Road in Carrollton. I can't tell you how sad it made me when I found out it closed. However, it makes me happy to know that I can still get my Café Max "fix" at this location. All of their salads are very good. We need more of these around DFW. The food is fresh, the portions are huge and the choices are healthy and some are indulgent. I love the chicken salad, the cucumber salad and the fruit salad for my trio. It's enough food for two lunches but I always overeat because it's so good and healthy. The chicken salad is especially my favorite. I HATE mayo which limits me, especially at lunch time but this chicken salad is not a creamy one. It has apple, bell pepper and an Asian style sweet but light sauce that I cannot get enough of! It's a bit of a drive from work for me but I'm willing to make the sacrifice. I've been going to cafe Max for over 15 years. I know the portion size and exactly how salad should look. This time the chicken was soupy wet and the portion was significantly smaller. I called and asked what was up and was told, yes, they have changed portion to 'normal' amt because they were giving too much. He also said someone else complained chicken too dry...so maybe they overcompensated. Ok, I'm paying over ten dollars for salad...there better be enough. Also, if they aren't consistent I won't continue to go. I will go back one more time, and if portion smaller and food not consistent I won't return. Btw in all these years I've only called one other time many years ago when the seafood salad tasted different/off. And neither occasion did they offer to make it right...the managers just say ok Thankyou for your info and we will look into it and that's it. If a business can tell you are a faithful customer because you can remember back to when they had their first store all those years ago...offer to make it right for crying out loud. Went here cause of their 4-star Yelp rating and was underwhelmed. First impression upon walking in was that of a a Hospital cafeteria. The decor is bland and there is no music or anything else to give it any sort of distinct ambiance. Ordering is also just like a cafeteria, you grab a tray and select from a bunch of pre-made salad options. I went with the salad sampler to try out the 8 different kinds of salad offered. One positive for this place was the man who served the salads, he was extremely friendly and upbeat. After grabbing some silverware and paying, we grabbed our seats and tried the food. Overall, I'd rate the food as mediocre. Six of the salads were just decent and the other two were not very good, to the point that I left both of them uneaten outside of a couple bites. The veggies and fruit in the salads were of decent quality, but the meat tasted similar to what you'd find in a frozen dinner. None of the salads stood out to me and I would be hard pressed to think of a reason that someone would come to this place over the many other sandwich/salad options in the Plano area. read more

I picked up a chef salad for my hubs and a trio for me - I should have known by the weight of the bag this was going to be a crazy amount of food, but when I got home and we unpacked the bag.. Absolutely terrible, I wasn't greeted at all, lady acted like I inconveinced her the whole way through order to paying, and slow service for literally only a handful of guests.
