This place is my favorite lunch/ salad place, by far. I've eaten at the location in Addison numerous times, and was so excited to find this one across from my hair salon! I've held off on writing this for a bit to make sure I wasn't being petty. After talking with some friends that have gone through the same experience I have come to the conclusion that this is just a bad business practice. We went here to eat and when I went to pay I was informed that they do not accept cards without chips in them. When I asked why they said it was their policy. Well let me explain this further before people start with the right to refuse service thing. You must have a valid reason to refuse it's not a blanket excuse despite what people tend to think. Same goes for places that don't accept currency larger than a $20. If it is legal currency you are legally bound to accept it. I try to understand why they won't take cards without chips and I just get the same answer company policy. I have bought demo CD's from guys with my because they had the square attachment. So if they can do it so can you, this "policy" is beyond unnecessary. Despite what you think it does not prevent fraud or identity theft. If you have implemented this "policy" to save on costs then own up to it and say it. If you can accept a chip you can accept a swipe. Why do I know this? Because my background in helping to develop software the very products you are using. Could I have paid with a different card of course but being rude is unacceptable and to parrot response "company policy" is nonsense. read more

I normally love this place and have eaten here for over 12 years. I normally go to the Richardson location but was in the Plano area, so stopped to get some to go. First off, there were two workers there. One was ringing up a customer and another male who just kept walking in and out. He saw me and as I stood there, he did not greet me nor acknowledge me. Finally, after about 4-5 min, he came over and asked what I wanted. I got the sampler and as he was making my plate, I noticed he was taking very small scoops (they are known for larger portions and I know this since I'm a regular). I asked he if they changed their portion size and he said no. I mentioned it the cashier and she just shrugged and said sorry. I was very disappointed with both the customer service people. I've always been a huge fan of Cafe Max. But I'm very disappointed in the lack of cleanliness of this location. The only reason for such a low rating is bc the floors were filthy. The chairs could be cleaner too. There was a shriveled up piece of lettuce from their Caesar salad stuck on my seat from yesterday. It makes me think twice to go back bc if the floors are this dirty, how clean is the kitchen??? The food was good, but it made me sick to my stomach to see such dirty disgusting floors. I couldn't even move the chairs at my table bc the floor was so gross and sticky. They look like they haven't been washed in weeks! This prompted me to look at the floors. I lost my appetite. I love this place! The salads are to die for, the soups are amazing, and those muffins... Whew! So good! And their portions are huge! Ten dollars pays for a mountain of food on your plate. I've had their food about five times now. I'm already starting to crave it weekly. They are very clean and organized- the employees wash their hands very frequently and are very efficient. They have a separate to-go room which is good. Some have complained about them not using gloves every now and then while making sandwiches... But their hands are clean and even the finest chefs at the high end restaurants use their clean bare hands to make the dishes. Doesn't bother me because of how clean they are. Best iced tea in town! I always get the half and half plate with marianted chicken salad and creamy pasta salad. I've tried to recreate the chicken salad with a copycat recipe I found online but nothing comes close to the one at Cafe Max. Usually I have nothing but the best experience at this location. Portions, taste and price are always great. But today may have been an "off" day. I'm glad I look at what I am eating as I am eating it because otherwise I would not have caught the piece of hard plastic that was underneath all the pasta. I got the trio to-go: pasta, fruit and chicken. I brought it back to work and as I was done with the majority of my food I see a white piece that seems a little out of the ordinary. At first I thought it may be a piece of sliced hard boiled egg that fell in so I poked it with my fork. Little did I know that it was a flat piece of hard plastic. It may have been part of a spoon or utensil used to toss the pasta salad, who knows. All I know is that I am SO glad I did not scoop this up along with some pasta and bite into it or swallow it! I may have to give Cafe Max a rest for a bit but I did want to caution people to look at what they're eating in case something should accidentally fall into their food. read more

We ordered lunch to go from here last week based on some feedback I'd read on a community Facebook forum. I know there have been some reviews about dwindling portion sizes, but holy salad, Batman! I love going to Cafe Max in Richardson location. Not so much in this one! I became a regular for the to go and even recommended this place to some of my co-workers and friends, and they also became a regular customer. Today I went again, and ordered half and half split for two people, and he said, "Sure we can do that!" I paid and grab the bag and left. I was driving back to the office and realized that I only got one box of salad. So I went back and asked the guy if they gave me half and half split for two, thinking maybe they just forgot to put it on a separate box. The guy told me, "It's more expensive, you need to add $2.71!!" Which I'm fully aware of because I'm a regular. And I replied back, "Yes I understand that, and that's what I ordered." He answered again and said, "Well, you only paid for one!!" I was trying to make a point that it is not what I ordered and I don't mind paying extra. And he replied again, "I can give you another box so you can split it?" And I'm just like so lost for words...... What can I say? I felt like the issue has not been resolved...... But at least in my head, I only paid for one, like he said. The food is great, but a little bit more customer service training won't hurt. read more

I really want to give them a good review, but after years of constant rude staff and crazy rules that randomly change, I just can't. It reminds of the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld. Today's random rule was related to the Quiche plate w/two salads. I am diabetic, so I can only have the Caesar. I always ask to double it instead of one of the other salads. It's never been a problem for like 10 years! Today, however, I decided to order it ahead of time. The guy working the to go area, took back the double salad the salad girl had prepared for me and told her to redo it and only give me a small box. She was confused, I was confused. When I asked about it, he responded very rudely, saying it was an old rule and they can't just let everyone double up. Huh? I wasn't asking for extra. I was just asking to have another Caesar instead of fruit or potatoes. That rule is not posted anywhere. Chicken and Seafood make sense, but lettuce? This is not the first time they been so rigid and lacked customer service. If you decide to go, just be prepared for rude service and rules that don't make any sense. Worst Customer Service!!!! Will never return!!!! After calling ahead to order 3 trio platters, I picked up our bundle of food and brought it back to the hospital I work at. When we realized they had messed up on one of the orders, I called and spoke to the rudest manager I have ever spoken to. He said I could come back and get another salad, but would have to bring the "wrong" salad back to him, so he could "show" the salad guy he had made a mistake. When I told the manager that I expect he would "comp" the one salad since I was now having to leave work a second time his response was, "no I cannot do that". we usually go to Cafe Max as a group and try all their salads. I find the portion to be huge and with more people it's better to consume the salad in one setting rather than taking leftovers home. My personal favorites are the chicken salad, Ceasar salad, and the pasta salad. Crab in my opinion is a waste of money because they use imitation crabmeat and there's nothing special about it that you can't make at home. I agree with a previous reviewer that the price is kinda high and if you come here frequently then you'll get sick of it fairly quick. read more

One of the best places for different types of salads I have ever been to date. The seafood, pasta and chicken salad is my typical salad trio. If I am feeling like a Caesar I really enjoy theirs with the chicken salad on top. Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting good salad options.
