Nice little spot in San Clemente. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Always made it a point to check on us to make sure everything was okay. Service was quick. Didn't have to wait long to place our orders or to get our food or our bill. We stopped by to have breakfast. We tried the Croissant French Toast. Never had a french toast made with croissants. It was different, but good. It was topped with a raspberry sauce of some sort. We also ordered the Eggs Benedict Florentine which came with potatoes. For those of you who don't know, Florentine is made with spinach and Traditional is made with Ham. The eggs were made well and not too runny. The portions of each were perfect and enough for us to share. They had a good selection of mimosas. We tried a passion fruit and a blueberry. Both very good. We missed out on the mango flavor, so we'll need to come back to try that. Although this place was a little on the pricey side (approx. $60 for 2 people), we'd recommend giving this place a try. read more

Such a lovely spot in San Clemente! Since we enjoyed it so much a few years ago, we decided to come back. I had the breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs, ham, and cheese on toasted wheat. Wow! It was fantastic and too big for me to finish. He had the omelette and loved it too. Don't miss the fresh squeezed orange juice. It's a must. read more

I stopped by here when walking down del mar the other week. I wasn't blown away by their food by any means. I had french toast and a bloody mary and my friend had the BLT. Both food items were very basic. The french toast had a berry compote that had little to any taste to it; tasted as if it had just been thawed and put on there. The BLT was very basic, as most BLTs are, but for the size and amount of filling I don't feel it was worth $14. The bloody mary I had was good, not very spicy though. I like the atmosphere but probably won't be back. read more

Second visit, other than the long wait (expected) on the first visit, food and service was great, we were happy to return. Second visit, our server, Monique was not friendly, her first visit at our table was a pen and pad pulled out, "are you ready to order" so we did, second visit was to bring drinks, third was to bring our food. Would have been nice to be greeted nicely, maybe "may I start you off with a "Mimosa" or coffee.. Our 18 year old Son said, she doesn't seem like a very happy person. She refilled my coffee, I appreciated that, "thank you", "uh huh". Would have been polite to ask. Other than that she asked if we wanted a box when she dropped off the check, never asked if we needed anything or how our food was. When we were leaving, my wife asked another person working if she was a manager or owner "no" was her answer. My wife shared with her our food was delicious and hot, but the server was not nice, and service was the bare minimum. She told my wife "we all have bad days" my wife said, you shouldn't come to work if you're having a bad day and in the business of serving. I prefer not to write something like this, but when service is so bad, it takes the focus off the delicious food, it's worth sharing on this forum, it's not fair for those making the delicious food only to have it represented by such a sour person. What's worse, when bringing to another's attention, it was passed off as acceptable. I'm sure you won't miss my business but what a shame for the others that work so hard to do a good job at Mimosa Cafe, like the last server. read more

Girls at the front were so horrible there owner should know. Also, had a service animal for my children and were denied service and told they don't care they in-force the no dog rule. absolutely unacceptable. This place should be shut down It's illegal to deny a service dog. Worst service and will NEVER return. read more

Alright so I'm horrible at taking pictures before my meal, but it's ok because you can find it on other pictures on their site. Nevertheless, this place had really good quality food. We highly suggest the cream brûlée French toast. The customer service was really good; our server was very attentive. She constantly came by to check on us. With regards to the mimosas, I think wish we could have tried the mango, but they ran out. However, they did have a wide variety of different options. To end this, I will come back again, when I surf this area again. read more

This place comes highly recommended by Yelpers, but I just wasn't feeling it. It's a quaint location smack in the center of downtown HB. The staff were prompt, kind, & attentive. But the food was...meh. I had the pork belly Benedict, which was about 80% fat, 20% meat. I understand pork belly is fatty, thus the tender meat, but I've had far less fatty with meat that was at least 100% more moist than what was on my Benedict. The hollandaise was runny and lifeless. It did help to make the pork a bit more moist, but certainly didn't add anything to the dish in terms of flavor. I had a chai latte that was pretty delicious, so there's that. And they serve it in the equivalent of a salad bowl. That was a meal in & of itself. Overall, a mediocre place. read more

I was in San Clemente and was invited to join my very good friend Mark Bell for a late breakfast. This is a small hidden jewel of a restaurant, family owned, called Mimosa Cafe. Due to the world we live in now, outside seating was a must but they do it right. Big white tent/canopy, morning ocean breeze made the experience even more delightful. We also had the opportunity of meeting one of the very engaging owners, Brittany with Eloise, and Waylon in tow. We were seated and our server Monique, made it a point to make us feel right at home! We ordered our drinks, and Monique made some menu suggestions. We decided on the Chorizo Scramble, with the house made chorizo, more like a Longanisa type, queso fresco, house potatoes and fresh corn tortillas. Eggs were a wonderful soft scrambled with the addition of the chorizo, and seasoning the plate was delicious and well balanced, perfection! Additionally, we ordered the traditional eggs Benedict. Eggs were poached perfectly, where the velvety yolk accompanied by the house made hollandaise sauce, had a bit of a bite, had great balance and depth. Monique our server came by the table more than a few times making sure our experience was enjoyable, great job! I would recommend this restaurant for any occasion, even more so, if you want to enjoy a great meal and service in addition to a cool ocean breeze, this is the place for you. Today, we decided to do something to celebrate the 2nd or 3rd pandemic shut down by exploring our surroundings each week. We are from Laguna Beach. Our first stop was at cafe mimosa in San Clemente. Been coming here for about 6 years or so - and everything about this restaurant is always consistent. The food is always superb, very flavorful and creative without being anything unorthodox. It's a French restaurant with French-inspired food and French decor - very quaint and cute, and very small and intimate. My favorite dish is the chorizo scramble - TONS OF FLAVOR with the perfect spice blend and lots of chorizo. They also have like 15 flavors of mimosas, in case you didn't think that would be the case from their name. This is one of my San Clemente faves. Also very consistent is their manager/server/do-it-all-and-do-it-well - his name's Ian, and I've literally never walked in there without seeing him. Im a local in San Clemente and I'm giving this 2 stars for the crazy wait time and the poor hosting. My party of 2 and I were told that the wait on a Sunday morning would be 45min (which I totally understand) but after an hour and a half of waiting and continually asking the air-headed hostess for updates, we made up our mind that if we were not seated next, we'd go somewhere else. Luckily we were seated and our waitress was great. The food was great too but we were not happy about the huge time we waisted waiting when we could've gone somewhere else for the same quality food. read more

This place is not very big and typically busy. They have limited indoor seating, cute outdoor patio seating and good service. The chicken pesto sandwich and side salad were delicious. However the vegetable quiche was bland and not very good. The iced latte was just ok. read more

Maybe 3.5-3.75 stars. Frustrated after stopping at 2 eateries -- stating they offered "waiter service", but did not -- we came upon Cafe Mimosa -- a very small, casual, older-interior, quaint spot. We had a good feeling once we caught a glimpse of the attractive storefront, and that it was visibly busy. Being a cold, winter late morning, we opted for inside seating (not much difference, being that the double doors leading to the outdoor patio was kept wide open). Service was appreciatively very welcoming and very friendly, and fairly attentive. I ordered the Egg White Frittata ($14): piping hot (love that!), light-and-fluffy, and very flavorful (especially with shredded cheese melted on top); the entree was accompanied by a light-and-tasty side salad of mixed greens. Good food (a bit pricey for what you get), decent coffee. Nice find (although I would've appreciated not having to face the busy, single door leading into the toilette). read more

In my opinion price doesn't worth the food. I got a omelettes for $17 which was ok and ordered an extra egg with some slide of tomatoes. Waitress said we just can order 2 or 4 eggs. So, I had to order 2 eggs and was charged for $15! Cappuccino was not good, it was just milk and foam! In fact, they are a local cafe teria which is ok but price is more expensive than a good restaurant! read more

Absolutely no complaints with this place. The mimosas were tasty and sufficiently strong, and the pork belly Benedict was delicious. On top of that, the croissant French toast was a real standout. We got an order for the kids, tasted it, and placed another order for the table! The wait staff was friendly and responsive, and their recommendations were spot on. We had to wait a while to get a table outside, but it was well worth it. This will definitely be on our list when we're back in town. read more

Absolutely incredible! About a 40 minute wait around 10 am on a Saturday, but well worth it! They offer a variety of mimosas as well as a select brunch menu. Things are expensive but they are worth it and serving portions are huge! Mexican omelet was a very naturally put together delight, with avocados, sun dried tomatoes and salsa! My wife had the mimosa salad and said it was the best salad she'd ever had! read more

Ok I'm so creeped out by my meal here I had to post right away. Everything I ate and drank just didn't taste right. First issue was that the water purée had tons of stuff floating in it. Not pulp. Weird clear white stuff and then a black thing. I think this really just set me up to not enjoy the meal. Next my artichoke benedict had inedible pieces left on the artichoke hearts. Made for an unpleasant eating experience. My next qualm is the freakin pricing. $6 for orange juice. $6 for a side of avocado. OVER $20 for eggs benedict. The service was slow but the ambiance nice. read more

Nice service, nice place. But really disappointed with the Benedict due to the hollandaise sauce. Clearly homemade, so should have been delicious. But they overpower it with smoked paprika, obliterating all of the citrus notes that should be there and replacing that with a not pleasant smoke aroma and flavor. Smoke belongs in bbq, smoked fish and meat... not on a Benedict. read more

So delicious! Met my mom here on New Years Day around 10. Pretty much every table was filled. We shared the French toast and artichoke Benedict. I was a bit hesitant to get the Benedict, but it was recommended so we gave it a go. Both dishes were beautifully done. Not super rich and overpowering like some places. Definitely will be back. read more

My wife, Susan Surratt, myself, Rodney Surratt and my service animal, Bear asked to be seated at the Cafe Mimosa on 11/14/2023 at 11:45 AM and were told "we do not allow service animals" by the hostess. We explained that it was a Federal Law under the American Disability Act to allow us to enter as our service animal is very quiet, obedient and trained to be in restaurants and alerts me as I have diabetes. The hostess called the owner and my wife spoke to the owner explaining that it was a violation of the American Disability Act. The owner, Antonio Jr Price told her very rudely that he runs an "at will restaurant" and he doesn't care about the American Disability Act, he does not allow any service animal even if you are blind. read more

I loved this place! We stopped in early on a Saturday morning at like 8am. The waitresses were all so kind and cared to explain things on the menu that we didn't understand! We ordered the ice tea and an elberberry mimosa! I now have a new favorite flavor for mimosas and I'm bummed because I doubt I can get an elberberry mimosa anywhere else!! Definitely try it out, they also have other flavors like elderflower, pomegranate and a bunch of others. We ordered the frisee and another item that was kind of like a bacon egg breakfast salad. It was so fresh and delicious! I wish this place was closer to me because I would be here all the time drinking all the mimosas and eating a great breakfast! So happy we stopped in!! read more

What a cute little spot; it has everything: good food, friendly service, $9 wine pours! We have now been there twice. The first time, I got the ham quiche, and it was the best I have ever had, hands down. I love quiche, and if it's on the menu, I will order it every time. Delicious, buttery crust (not soggy at all), perfect consistency, super flavorful and a very generous portion to boot. The next time, we both got Eggs Benedict (traditional style). SO disappointing! The whole dish was very dry. The egg should be cooked with runny yolk; this was so over cooked, there was no liquid. Cooked well done, which is not appropriate for this dish. There was absolutely no Hollandaise sauce, just a bit of some kind of other sauce on it. Hard to eat and not enjoyable. This is the reason I gave the place 4 stars, not five. This is a restaurant that closes at 3:00 each day, and specializes in brunch items. For that, ya gotta have great Eggs Benedict, and they were so awful. My advice, just order something else. Go for the quiche (?) read more

History

Established in 2007.

The name comes from the Mimosa plant. Following our family from France, the French Province has the very floral tree, the mimosa, which was the base for perfume. As we were planting our roots in San Clemente we fell upon an Ole Hanson home. While in the back yard during a walk through, my mother picked up a familiar fragrance, it was a mimosa bush surrounding the back fence...we had to have it. As we thought about what we would name our second restaurant location, Cafe Mimosa was obviously perfect. It encompassed our family roots from France, the beauty and floral elegance of the plant and what would be our signature breakfast/brunch beverage..the Mimosa!

The Ratatouille was alright, we were not a fan. We got the Steak Frites medium and felt like it should've tasted better. We did appreciate that we did taste the red wine. The Belgians fries were hot and crispy. They were quite generous with the salt. The decor was nice. The food was descent. The kept refilling our water without us asking which was nice. We did not like that the waiters kept rushing us to leave at the end when there were plenty of open tables. The place was packed by dinner time when we returned to the area.

One of my favorite appetizers here are their bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers served with a blackberry jam and pickled onions...I get this pretty much every time. Lately I've been coming on Tuesdays to take advantage of their all-day Happy Hour, which is one of the best in town. Crispy carnitas tacos and the hibiscus margaritas are my go-to's, and the fresh chips and salsa served gratis are always delicious and hot. I wanted to take a moment to shout out their fantastic team of servers and bussers especially. Luna, Lindsay and Cesar have all been exceptional servers; their knowledge of the menu and their genuine kindness makes our visits that much more memorable. I don't often catch the name of the bussers, but they are extremely good at what they do. There's a few restaurants in town that hire staff and don't seem to train them well, so they struggle and it's apparent... but that's not the case here at Asada, where everyone is professional and really go above and beyond. It's easy to see how well their service flows (although the host stand could benefit from having people who are more outgoing; they seem to have timid people up there a lot, and it can be awkward when they're too timid to properly greet guests--just something I've noticed, having worked in restaurants before I tend to be hyper-aware of such things). My favorite section to get seated is the booths near the back which tend to be quieter, and also offer a nice view of the sky during the sunset and evening hours especially.
