This is my mom's favorite place because she loves overpriced french bread, salami and cheese sandwiches. It was her birthday and I ran over at 12:30 on a Monday ... I asked for the cheese and salami sandwich. I was told they were out of it. I asked if they could make her one and they said "no." I then asked what sandwich they did have and I was told "we're done with sandwiches today." At 12:30 on a Monday ... It is the most expensive sandwich in San Clemente and yet they seem put out every time we go. Find a friendlier place. The new food hall next door seems friendlier. read more

This is a great little place located right near the train depot. I can see people stopping in on their way in or out of San Clemente. After our walk, Cako and I came here, but they didn't open until 8. I asked one of the workers if it was ok if I left my car in their parking lot, there's only three spaces, and would come back when they opened, which he said was alright. I liked that! So Cako and I walked around the area which was very interesting. A little after 8, I went in. There were people there already. Me: Good morning! You two are very popular. When I was looking for a bakery on Yelp, Moulin came up. He: You saw our pictures. Me: Yep! There's a lot! I ordered a plain croissant, an almond croissant, and a pain au chocolat. My go tos for a new bakery. All three were good, not as flaky as I've had at other places. But I really liked the almond one. There's an indoor dining room and a cute little patio. Perfect little spot! Somehow we missed this place until now! We came in for some coffee and pastries on a foggy morning and it was great. Beautiful and delicious pastries, hot coffee, warm greetings from the staff, and a friendly dog named Baloo, and yep they did look like a big ol bear! Employees are friendly, food is good, but all of my utensils were dirty and I asked for a second set, which also was dirty...this is the reason for a 4 star review. Heads up! They offer dinner now on Fridays and Saturday and itnis amazing. My Companion had the equivalent of shepherds pie which was awesome and I enjoyed the best French onion soup I have ever had, not too salty thi k with cheese croutons and pieces of onion. My fav spot is Moulin for a bite...I usually go to Newport Beach one because its closer and also they have a small shop that have variety of french products and by being francophone and traveling to France many times this petite corner is nostalgia..I like this location because its so local and everyone know each other and you already know that they know you are not from town lol...Today i was craving for chocolate eclair so bad and luckily they had it...This cafe is so little in compare to Newport Beach one so the variety is too little and we didnt have so many option. This is a cute little coffee shop/bakery near the beach in San Clemente. Their coffee menu is very basic so I just ordered a half-caff iced latte. It was good! Not so good that I'd come back just for the coffee, but I'd happily stop by if it was on my way or if I wanted some pastries too. I didn't get a chance to try their baked goods, but they had a lot of delicious-looking things. It seems like they're more known as a bakery than coffee shop. I am a diabetic and wanted to order a meat like ham and 2 scrambled eggs. I was told I could not have scrambled eggs because they were not on the menu . I was offered a 3-4 egg omelette minus the cheese that came with a salad and some baguette. Now that was on the menu but I didn't want all that food. Talking to staff they say the owner is strict on the menu and offers no à la carte menu or prices. They also said some people with dietary restrictions complain about it. They mentioned families that come in with young children and there is not a menu for them either , another reason to have an à la carte menu. The waitstaff was wonderful and helped me out. They suggested I write to the owner so I hope he reads this . Please consider some à la carte items on your menu. You could have made more money off my check. It can be a little upsetting that the baguette sandwich you want is sold out...but that's a testament to how delicious they are! This is the closest to a French baguette sandwich I've had in the US, with amazing roasted ham and actual emmantel cheese! The fresh oj is just the same as most boulangeries in Paris, and having moved from Hawaii, these are things we were missing - great bread and fresh oj! As soon as we walked in, it felt like we were transported to France! What a charming spot with a full menu, so many sweet and savory food options as well as European retail products for sale. You'll feel like you've been transported on a little vacay while you eat the delicious Parisian food while looking at the ocean and palm trees. They have a wide selection of grab and go items, like sandwiches, salads, and pastries. They also have wines and delicious sparkling drinks to enjoy. There's some indoor seating, as well as a few seats on their outdoor patio. Most parking will be metered parking. Also, please note that while the restaurant is open until 3pm, the kitchen is open until 2pm. They still have fabulous food you can grab and eat there until they close. The food was so impeccably outstanding and lovingly curated to be nutritious and/or authentic at the same time, the staff were all so full of positive energy and really went above and beyond in many ways, and the cool November air at the outside patio tables with an ocean view while I got to savor a stunning Paris Brest, an out-of-this-world delicious La Salade Moulin with the best ingredients including housemade chicken pesto and croutons, and an exquisitely superb Alain Milliat cranberry juice, really gave my body, mind, and soul a chance to reset and relish in the discovery of such an amazing place... it's like 3-in-1, with the Moulin experience that's second to none, the Parisian / French foods that I get to enjoy without dealing with the current obstacles I face in actually taking a trip to France, and the absolute grand serenity of being by the ocean in San Clemente. We went to San Clemente Moulin on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at about 11:05 am and we ordered the Ham and Cheese sandwich. The baguette for the sandwich was not fresh. It was stale and dry (just like old sponge). The ham was not the same like the one we often ate in Costa Mesa store! The cheese tasted awful. It tasted like cheap cheese! We couldn't believe that was the Moulin sandwiches we used to eat! We were so disappointed and will not return to this sorry place again! read more

The coffee is excellent (even the decaf has a robust European coffee flavor), and the food is truly authentic French--clearly made with care and high-quality ingredients. Always a solid experience at Moulin. I usually get one of three things and today was the omelette with potato and bacon. It's ample in portion, you can almost share this and maybe something else with another person. It comes with a delicious mixed green salad and a vinaigrette, as well as a toasted piece of baguette. I do love this omelette however, I thought today it seemed a little dry and overcooked, maybe a little dense overall and not the normal fluffiness that I've come to expect. Service is super friendly and helpful. The ordering process is easy. Enter through the one door and come around the display case and someone will help you. Lots of indoor outdoor seating. Parking on the street as well as a city lot. I also had a café au lait , which was delicious. Before I left, I bought two mini pastries for a treat later in the afternoon. This quaint little French cafe was nestled between a main road and beautiful residential neighborhood with peek-a-boo views of the ocean. I've been to other Moulins on multiple occasions, especially the one in Newport Beach and Dana point. I would give it 4 stars at any location for the pastries because they are always consistently good, but not everything else always lives up to its name. Service here is prompt and it's easy to order at the counter and take away or get your serving number and they bring it out to your table. I like this San Clemente location because it's near the beach, feels just a little more cozy/small town than the other locations, and has plenty of great outdoor seating and parking nearby. That being said, I was disappointed today to find they don't have all the pastry selection here-the St. Tropezienne, one of my favorite cakes of all time, was not available here. Nonetheless, we did have a choux Swan, which was delicious. For lunch I had the half roasted chicken. It's not a huge portion of chicken which you might expect from a half chicken, it's closer to cornish hen size than a chicken. But that was ok with me, and a generous portion of fries-which are some of the best around. The green salad always has a tasty dressing with it as well. I was glad they provided extra dressing, as the chicken was a bit underseasoned and the dressing added just the extra pop it needed. We also had a vegetarian quiche. They definitely fell short today-the quiche crust was still pale and a bit soggy and undercooked. It should have been golden and crumbly, and definitely did not come close. The filling was more like wet scrambled eggs than a firm and tender custard-which on other occasions I've had here. So that was a bit of a let down. Overall, the food is good but not always as great as it could be, so I have to bump them a star for lack of consistency. Given, this review is specifically for my experience at the San Clemente location. Prices are fair and service is decent, but most of all I come for the pastries and a nice spot to just chill. read more
