This review was cross posted on Open Table. We've been here many times over the last 7 years. We were disappointed however after our visit last night. We were seated in a semiprivate room near the front of the of the house. The room was quiet and comfortable. Servers were nice and prompt. The big problem is that the food was cold. The arancini was flavorful, but the outside was not crispy and the centers were cold. The truffle buratta ravioli was again very flavorful, but the cheese center was cool and when cutting into the house made pasta, the filling didn't ooze out as it should. The veal chop was ordered medium rare, but came out medium well done. Again, very flavorful, but temp was off. The farfalle Genovese was a excellent and piping hot, the best of the dishes. Definitely an off night for the kitchen and maybe showing some poor quality control and short cutting. read more

I enjoyed it the linguine, It had scallops, and shrimp which was well absorbed in the sauce and the sun dried tomatoes took this to the next level. The crab dip was really good. The service was impeccable. Our server was attentive and made sure we always had water and was near by to attend to us. The ambiance was nice. Looked like the spot to be after work. It had a mixture of both old and young. The next time I visit, I will make sure to eat outdoors. read more

Cafe Napoli is a hopping Italian restaurant in Clayton serving up fancy cuisine with an elegant ambiance. The restaurant is stylized as fine dining, and for the most part this was true--good customer service, elegant decor, etc. The façade broke in a couple areas, though. Our server seemed new and was hard to understand. The process was confusing, as we didn't get menus until we had already been at our table half an hour (we only got the wine menu and a visit from the sommelier to start). Most jarringly, the other clientele were at times a bit off-putting, with a few tables of multiple overly-exuberant, scantily-clad women accompanying one older gentleman... but maybe that's just something you need to expect in this part of town. The fare was good albeit not amazing. The wedge salad and the eggplant parmesan were enjoyable. The veal chops (the house specialty) were good, and I'd recommend the vino rosso (nice sauce with mushrooms) over the saltimbocco (too cheesy). The Alaskan halibut special was our favorite. We came for a birthday and got a complimentary amaretto chocolate ice cream cake, which was delicious. Overall a decent meal, though quite expensive and three hours long! It was still popping outside on the patio even when we left after 10 pm, though. Must be a popular joint--check it out if you're in the mood for fancy Italian. read more

While in St. Louis I visited Café Napoli for drinks both Friday and Saturday night. We enjoyed seats at the bar and the service was spot on, waters offered and we were asked for another round without having to ask. The bar is intimate with several seat at the wrap around bar and a few tables throughout. We also stepped over to the Nightclub part, unfortunately not sure if that has another name, but they had great drinks as well and it is more a club atmosphere. Music was too loud for me, couldn't hear anyone without screaming. Overall, definitely a fun spot to hit on a Friday or Saturday night when you are looking for good drinks, a nice bar and dancing. read more

She goes above and beyond for her guests. Other bartenders don't really talk to you they just make the drinks. We love her. The food is also outstanding. Excellent meal the other night. Had the seafood pasta, garlicky, a bit of heat, lots of goodies (seafood that is), only small issue was there was little to no sauce to allow my table bread to have a good purpose (I am sure the el-dente linguini soaked it all up making the flavor of the noodles perfect -just like it supposed to be). The sea bass was perfectly cooked, great flavor, succulent, and sweet, again the only peccadillo was that the fish had little sauce and with sea bass for sure you need a bit of flavoring to help the fish really hit its potential. Brother Ande! Man o'man does the Pietoso family know how to really took care of their guests. My fam was so happy. We were overjoyed with our meal. Nap's sumptuous fare just keeps getting consistently better and better. Their server, "Steven" (with a beard) was absolutely flawless. Steven is a mice nan. Evidently, he's been with Cafe Napoli off and on for many years. He wears his loyalty to the family on his sleeve. This consummate professional knew all of the wines and the construction of all of your delectable offerings. Steve hooked us up big time and turned me on to the best Brunello di Monticello I've ever enjoyed. And it is priced just right at 130.00/btl. By the way, the wine list is expansive and absolutely amazing. It's presented on an IPad makings it all Ezpz. Over the years my Parkinson's is becoming more of an issue. My mobility is becoming ever more limited. I don't get out as much because of my movement disorder. This establishment goes out of its way to be accessible and inclusive. This restaurant came highly recommend. Upscale restaurants aren't typically my "solo dining"style but I decided to treat myself. Scott my waiter was amazing and a low key New Orleans Saints fan. He explained/presented "off the menu" options and gave his personal recommendations which I tried. I ordered "The Trio" (off the menu appetizer) consisted of grilled portobello mushroom, ONE seafood stuff ravioli and ONE shrimp. All were tasty with individual sauces. I had salmon with spinach and broccoli sans the Dijon cream for the entree. Salmon was fresh and cooked medium rare, I ate every piece. The food is okay, but you come here to sit by the bar and have a drink. There is also music on the weekends and a dance floor. This is a nightlife atmosphere where there are no undergraduates and a more business professional vibe. People are generally nice, valet service, no cover, and you can have dinner before heading to the bar and lounge area. It's known to be a "cougar" hangout - but the more the merrier or come with friends. It's situated right downtown Clayton and makes for a great spot to start or end the night! read more

My wife and I dined here last night because we couldn't get a reservation at Napoli 2 which is closer to our home. We had a fantastic dinner here orchestrated by Sarah who provided excellent service and council with respect to wine selection and our entree choice. We split the Arancini and I found it to be exceptionally creamy. The sauce that came with it was quite flavorful and when combined with the arancini was just delicious. We also split the Caprese Salad which had exceptionally fresh tasting tomatoes and mozzarella. I had the Linguini Abruzzo which I ordered with a cream garlic sauce. It had the freshest tasting shrimp and scallops and a wonderful spice mix that included sun-dried tomatoes. The pasta was perfectly cooked. My wife loved her Veal Chop and remarked that it was the best she's ever had and will definitely order it again. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very elegant and several management personnel inquired throughout the dinner if everything was in order. Outstanding food, outstanding service. We decided on Cafe Napoli for our anniversary dinner this year. It did not disappoint! Everything from atmosphere to service to food was spectacular. We started with the arancini and the crab Caprese salad. Both were delicious. The Chilean sea bass was a real treat. It paired perfectly with the restaurant's unique take on rigatoni carbonara. My husband had the penne vodka which he really enjoyed. You must also try the bread pudding even if you take it to go like we did. The meal was delightful from beginning to end. This place is an absolute must when visiting STL. It came highly recommended from a colleague and it did not disappoint. For starters, my co-worker and I enjoyed the calamari with a fresh squeeze of lemon & light tasty tomato sauce along with the caprese salad donned with the fresh mozzarella topped by the balsamic reduction glaze and basil was simply superb. For dinner I chose the Farfalle Genovese with shrimp while my coworker enjoyed the chicken piccata. Both were amazing! I couldn't finish my dish bc it was plentiful but it wasn't for lack of trying. This delightful restaurant is what places used to be like when the world was younger....The ceilings are low (they feel low), the floor is carpeted, there are cloths on the tables, upholstery on the chairs and music in the background that is peaceful. This translates to intimacy and quiet and I can actually hear the people around my table speaking to me and interact with the server without screaming. Did I mention the servers/staff? They are attentive, professional, helpful, and pleasant! As to the food, it is wonderful. My "go-to's" are the eggplant parm appetizer (it's enough for an entree for me) and the Napoli salad. Their pasta is homemade and house and I've never had one I didn't enjoy thoroughly. For us, this is an expensive restaurant and so we go infrequently; but sticking to the apps and splitting entrees helps keep it do-able. If I could go once a week, I would! The restaurant is divided into Cafe Napoli, the restaurant section, and Bar Napoli, the bar section. I ate on the Bar Napoli side and had a great experience. This side has the same menu and a couple low tables to eat at in addition to the bar. It was packed and loud, but it was to be expected on a Friday night. I had a stacked salad and a shrimp cocktail, they were both amazing. I don't like eggplant but still loved the salad. The shrimp cocktail came with 4 massive shrimp, and was smoking what I think was liquid nitrogen. The service was great. Large drink list. Complementary bread was "meh" It was very expensive though (36$, 21$ for the shrimp and 15$ for the salad). read more

Tonight is crowded on the Clayton restaurant week. Not very comfortable. The sea bass was ok, not half as good compare to Bone fish. Sorry. The Arancini was the best I've ever had. Delicious! The Wedge Salad was good, but such a small portion compare to The Capital Grille. Chef's Bread Pudding was too sweet. Tartfuto was delicious. Overall, it's pretty good. Restaurant week and we waited until the last minute to make reservations. Cafe Napoli was our one choice and it did not disappoint. I chose not to order off the restaurant week menu because I love the Penne Vodka and have not had it in a while. Others in our party order from the pre fixe menu. Just an average experience in my opinion; nothing really made me feel like this place was special. Sure, the decor is nice and the ambiance is romantic and calming, but the experience was just "meh". We arrived on a Friday evening around 6:20 pm. Since this was an impromptu date night we did not have reservations which seemed to have the host a little confused, but he managed to get us a table as long as we could be out by 7:45. Challenge accepted. The table we were brought to was in the bar area and the chairs seemed to be out in the middle of the aisle. I managed to squeeze into the booth and eventually my husband did too. Sitting in the chairs just seems like an accident waiting to happen as people come around that corner or just stand at the bar. It's a tight fit. Our server came over quickly and brought us the drink menu (on an ipad). There were a lot of drinks to choose from, but I settled on a glass of merlot and my husband ordered a matilda. Drinks were ordered and we had time to browse the menu. Eventually our drinks were brought over and our server brought over the "off menu" items. A lot of steak and veal options which neither of us cared for so we just ordered from the menu. I ordered the pesto pasta and my husband ordered the sausage pasta. We each also ordered a salad to start. Our salads came out and were okay. I should have asked for the dressing on the side because there was too much dressing and not enough salad in my opinion. It was just an okay house salad. I was drinking my wine slowly, but managed to drink a lot of water so thankfully there was a guy who kept coming around to refill our water glasses! At some point someone came by our table and took away the Parmesan cheese; I thought for sure they would bring it back with our meals, but they did not. When our food came out it was actually delivered by someone from the kitchen and the plates were very hot; I assume they were under a heat lamp for a while? Our server didn't really make it over to check on us since she had other tables so I could't even ask for some Parmesan cheese to add to it! I took a few bites and I did enjoy the pasta; I love anything with pesto so I would get that again if I ever go back. I took a few bites, but it was already around 6:30 so I wanted to make sure we got the check and left before the next reservation showed up. When our sever came back I asked for a to go box which she happily packed up for me; we paid the bill and were out the door. Would I go back? Maybe for the cocktails. read more

The place has a nice outdoor seating. The stuff ( hostess, bus boys , our waitress ) were friendly , polite and attentive. But we came here not only for customer service but also to have a good food. Oysters were fresh and delicious (hard to ruin, right ?) I got truffle burrata ravioli which were good and can't complain. My friend was less lucky because his steak arrived cold. But the real reason for low rating is the misfortune of the other friend. Shrimps campi arrived warm, but overcooked ... like OVERCOOKed so you need to chew it. After the concern was addressed to the waitress she was happy to offer something else. Finally my friend got the hot sea food pasta. It tasted good too. But ... there was a HAIR, gross , black, curvy hair. Obviously, she denied to eat as well. So the manager got involved. Not sure what made such an impact on thinking capabilities of the manager of this "fancy" restaurant but he literally said " please , let me know how to make it right to you " To the management: Apologise, check the order , send complimentary, check the kitchen and hygiene of the stuff. When we entered for lunch on Friday, we awkwardly stood there for maybe 3 minutes, unsure of what to do. There was no one standing behind the podium, and there was a waiter talking on the phone. After he finished talking, he wiped up and attended to something behind the bar instead of attending to patrons. The waiter who came to us after we were seated, however, was very warm, friendly, and enthusiastic. We asked a few questions, and he answered them with zeal :D We ordered the Bruschetta di pomodori appetizer, which had anchovies... those thingies I hear about being gross when put on pizza, but when cut up and placed on bread, the result is quite delish. Nice balance of salty and savory, crunchy and creamy. Why does everyone hate on the poor critters? If you don't order an appetizer, that's okay too, because Napoli also serves bread with packaged salted Land O'Lakes butter. My Veal Piccata was thin, but soft and tender. The white wine and lemon butter sauce made my meal taste strangely like Chinese takeout XD The red peppers and green herbs (can't remember if it was parsley or cilantro) really made it look like it too! BF got the special of the day: Rainbow trout with pepper sauce. It came as a huge pan-fried filet smothered with a bright creamy pepper sauce with several pieces of nicely salted cauliflower. He said the pepper flavor was too strong near the end, but I didn't think it was that bad~ :) Cafe Napoli is a nice place to drop in for lunch. It wasn't busy at all (3 tables, including us), but guess it made sense since it was... 3pm. :P Their dinner prices soar upwards by quite a lot, so lunch is a good time to sample their menu.
