We ordered the beef brisket and the pork dumpling + spare ribs noodle soup bowls. Both broths and noodles were identical for the two orders. The spare ribs was more tasty than the beef brisket, as it was marinated beforehand. Likewise, pork dumplings (sui kau) were tasty too, and were sufficiently meaty. The beef brisket was average, slightly tender. But the broth was below average, as it really didn't match the beef taste. I would pass on this noodle if I were to re-visit. We came for the 'shaved ice'. The owner explained that the fruit shaved ice, already had the fruit inside the ice block (i.e. unlike the snow cones, this is NOT flavored syrup on ice shavings). This was different than anything we have tasted, so, it was a nice different experience. Love their variety for desserts! This is such a cute little shop and the workers are all so very friendly! They have not only baked goods but also bingsu, milkteas, and bubble waffle!! Their bubble waffle is quite nice but I recommend eating it right away or else it might get cooled and become chewy instead of the initial crunch. Coconut milk mango sago and egg waffles! I am pretty unfamiliar with Chinese desserts, and it was my first time having these two items. I got to say I really enjoyed them though. The egg waffles are made to order so my friends and I received them nice and hot. It was nice and crispy on the outside while being fluffy and light on the inside. My two friends and I had ordered two sets of the waffles, and we were definitely struggling to finish the second one. We each had our own coconut milk mango mago though. It's further up The Ave, so it's not too crowded, and has just the right amount of white noise that's good for studying. I am not an expert of shaved ice desserts but I can say this place can be a go-to place for shaved ice. I was expecting the ice to be very icy and chunk like the filipino halo-halo or Hawaiian version of shaved ice. But the ice here was very smooth and silky. The texture was also denser possibly from the condense milk they put. We ordered mango, cantaloupe and coconut. The dish came with real chunks of mango and cantaloupe but I think the coconut was more like a flavoring rather than an actual topping, and I barely tasted the coconut. Still the dessert was really good, refreshing and not overly sweet. The texture is extremely unique, which I really enjoyed--it's between the consistency of ice cream and shaved ice, but definitely on the creamy side. Not sure if the ingredients are homemade, but this dessert is srsly not that hard to put together and I wish the final dish had more exciting textures and flavors. The coffee was fine, it came in a to-go cup even though we were eating in and was adorned with a super random Target coozy. I was surprised by Cafe O'Dessert's range of regular food options, although I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to try them. My fiance absolutely loves this place for their shaved snow. The flavor is IN the snow, and it's as finely grounded as ice can get. This place replaced one of the tea places on the Ave, and specializes in so many unique asian desserts. I've always wanted to try the other ones but the one my fiance always gets when we go there is the shaved snow. Their flavors are amazing, especially sesame and matcha, which is our favorite. You get two toppings and can add additional toppings for 50 cents more, I think, which is very reasonable. Their large feeds two people very comfortably, so I can imagine the small being just a one-person serving. A pity that the location of this restaurant isn't so good. The homeless people always hanging out in front of this area may repel people from coming in. But I'll just say this...it is definitely worth it! This place seems to be a family-run restaurant with home-style kind of cooking. The lady working is always kind and cheerful whenever we come in to eat. The portion size for the actual meals don't seem too big....but enough to fill a person up. I would DEFINITELY order the shaved ice. You won't regret it. A bit pricey for dessert....around $6.50 but split it between you and a friend and you should be good. It's called Cafe O'Dessert for a reason... I have tried their savory items on 2 separate occasions and I have to say I would give it 1/2 a star. It's the second worst Taiwanese food after Yumbit on the ave and I don't even know if that place still exists. Anyways, the last time I went I had their Beef Noodle Soup and it was so bland. It was light in color and had no beef noodle soup flavor at all. You know when's the soups kinda reddish brown and it smells like Asian spices and it tastes so good. No, this one was bland and the noodles were thin and soggy. I never had Beef noodle soup with these thin noodles. I added so much soy sauce because I didn't want to waste food. Look at the picture I took! The sweet and sour chicken was just weird. The chicken was in flat pieces. I thought it was fish cake at first! It was crunchy and grossly tender. Not juicy tender. Crunchy as in it was soaked in ammonia and was super fake. You know how some restaurants have like weirdly crunchy shrimp and its bland because it's been processed so much..anyways, you couldn't even see the meat gradient or shred it apart and that's a problem ... Because REAL chicken shreds. The other occasion I got a black pepper pork cutlet thinking it was traditional Taiwanese Pai Goo fan (Pork Chop rice) excuse my very bad pinyin. It was not close to that, so it was quite disappointing and didn't taste very good... Why 3 stars? Their snowy shaved ice is okay. I need to stop comparing everything to LA, because nothing is like LA. So for the Ave quality it was alright. The waitress let me pick 2 flavors and a few toppings. Their shaved ice isn't as creamy as I've had but the flavor is pretty decent and their toppings are decent as well. I like their taro and sweet potato rice balls! One star for that. The service is friendly. 1 star. 1 more star for their extensive dessert menu. It was a nice hot day, the kind of day you just want to have some shaved ice. After having Indian food for lunch, we walked across the street to this cute little shop. The ladies were friendly and it wasn't packed. We ordered the mango shaved ice and a green tea egg waffle. We thought the egg waffle was going to come with green tea ice cream but it was actually green colored which was still just as good. The shaved ice was perfect, exactly what we needed on a hot day. It didn't have any hard bits of ice in it. It was actually beautifully shaven like you could see the folds of the ice. it was so soft and not too cold on the teeth. would definitely go back on a hot day. read more

A small shave ice is only $4.93. STEAL! Very empty but still really good. So it's that you pick two- three flavors and two toppings. Another add on is another .50 I believe. Found this gem in the U district after dinner. Initially I was skeptical because there seems to be more of a dinner place but they have excellent desserts. It has been awhile since I've had Guei ling gao (kind of like grass jelly, but medicinal...) and they have it! Their shaved ice is also creamy and velvety. Bubble waffles - a huge disappointment! Not authentic at all. I am a huge fan of bubble waffles. I've had my fair share in Hong Kong. Not a lot of places in Seattle offer them, so I usually go out of my way to get some when I find a new spot. I saw one of the Yelp reviewers mentioned bubble waffles here, and I knew I had to come. First disappointment - it wasn't open at its specified hours. The sign outside said opens at 11am. I came at 12:30pm and IT WAS STILL CLOSED. They would've lost my business right then and there, but I was determined to give their bubble waffles a try. Made the effort to come back again at 3pm. Ordered the bubble waffle ($3.75). And.......it was a huge disappointment. Bubble waffles are meant to be crispy on the outside, half airy and chewy on the inside. A chewiness that resembles mochis. Here, the bubble waffles resembled a dense, sponge cake. Crumbly when you bite into it. No crispiness or mochi-like chewiness to speak of. Maybe I'll come back again for their snowflake shaved ice. But skip the bubble waffles - not worth the steep price for what you get. read more
