This is where we go when we want Hong Kong style bakery items. We especially love their pork buns and their coconut buns. Don't be fooled by the exterior which has suffered since the pandemic due to hate crimes in the neighborhood. They are still open and still YUMMY.

Classic hong kong pastry shop They have whole cakes and cake slices ready for purchase day of, but I've also ordered customized cakes from them. The value for what you get is great, especially their breads. For more money you can get similar items from 85 degrees or tous les jours, but they're way smaller than the ones here. I thought the breads were soft and fluffy, the crunchy top on both were good too. The cake is a standard asian cake, not too sweet and light. Excited to come back and try their other items!

Behind its boarded windows and doors, you'll find the gem that is Yummy House Bakery. This bakery has saved me more times than I can count, I am truly grateful to have stumbled upon it. I ordered a 6" durian cake around 11:35AM on a Friday and the cake was available for pickup within a little less than an hour. Not many bakeries have quick turnaround times when placing an order the same day. The cake itself is delicious-- light, fresh, and spongy. You also have the option to customize toppings and decorations + it comes w/ a free candle. You can tell they put a lot thought and effort into their craftsmanship w/ the amount of questions they ask prior. Honestly the only bakery I can trust to be consistent and precise. Will be coming back soon :-)

I got a slice of chestnut cake as well as a pork bun and taro bun. The bread for the buns were quite dry and were skimpy on filling. The cake slice was good but could use more chestnut flavor. Ok if you have a craving but might opt for another option next time.

Yummy House has been my go-to place so far when buying a birthday cake! This past time, I ordered a durian 6" birthday cake with white cake and white frosting for my best friend, which was around $37. It was about $15 more than a plain white cake because of the added durian. I had to order and pick up the same day to make it in time for my friend's birthday. I wasn't sure if they were able to make one that quick and was a bit worried. However, they said they could do it, and I was so thankful. Upon picking up the cake, I was so happy with how it came out, as it was so cute! They included one long candle, and we decided to add more of our own. My friend loved it! The cake itself was so fluffy and light, not too sweet. The durian was smooth and plentiful in the cake, just how we like it. I would love to come back and try their other pastries and desserts sometime soon!

Times, they are changing, not for the better. Curse you, COVID and riots! Yummy House has been a Cantonese bakery in the Chinatown International District for many years, providing deliciousness of buns, breads, cakes, and more. Because of COVID and riots, Yummy House stands as a shadow (figuratively and in actuality) of its former self and they need your help! First, about their pastries, think pineapple buns, cocktail buns, baked pork buns, and so much more. My favorite is their paper wrapped sponge cake. I buy them from here (and from Uwajimaya back when they carried YH items). Next, cakes. Like many Asian cake shops, they specialize in light sponge cakes, with plenty of cut fruits in between, and finished with a light cream. They are never overly sweet nor heavy. You can order cakes, buy by the slice, or buy a Swiss roll. They also make items like cream horns and eclairs. But offerings may be less now, so you should call to confirm. Lastly, I am addressing current conditions. Please take a look at the other photos to see a store of vibrant lighting filled with self-serve bins to grab your own pastries with tongs. Now because of riots, the store front is darkened with the plywood still on the glass. Because of COVID, they have re-arranged the store such that only two cases are at the front, and the entire staff area is completely sealed away from the front with plastic. I asked the lady at the counter, and she expressed genuine fear of infections. Poor lady. I do feel bad for all service staff in general. (Unless I'm mistaken, I'm pretty sure she's the owner as I have seen her there many times.) Not surprising, business is suffering. I'm going to do my best to support them, and I hope you do too!

If the review was just for the food, I would have given this place a 3 star, but their excellent service definitely beyond my expectations. I had to get a last minute cake for my niece birthday and I placed an order at about 10am. After a few issues, everything was done and ready by 10:40am. I was amazed that they were able to accommodate for a cake and follow up with me with all the issues along the way. We ended ordering a strawberry cake and it was good. It was a standard cake with lots of strawberry and they were able to customize the cake to my liking. The cake had a lot of cream but the cake was a little bland even though there was tons of cream and strawberry. Overall though, this probably a good place for safe keeping for the next time I need another cake

I didn't get photos unfortunately but will be back and can update then. We ordered a marble loaf, croissants, chocolate hazelnut croissant (casse-noisette), brownie, kouign-amann and the fraisier. Oh. My. Heaven. This is the first bakery in a long time we have been craving days later. Everything. I mean EVERYTHING was delicious with the exception of the marble loaf. The loaf was extremely firm and had no flavor. My son who loves everything sweet only had two bites. The rest made up for it. My husband LOVES croissants and this is by far the best he has had in all of Washington. The casse-noisette was ridiculous. Often when you have stuffed croissants they either have barely any or way too much "stuffing". This was perfect. The perfect blend of chocolate and hazelnut. The crunch of the hazelnuts on top were a welcome contrast. Cannot wait to return. What a gem!

Croissant - perfect, I would have gotten another one but will look forward to returning before our trip ends. Avocado toast - egg added (extra) was the best bang for your buck and the lightly dressed, bright, crisp salad was a pleasant surprise. Chicken salad - no picture but was a no-frills, arugula based salad with shredded chicken and a hint of cheese. This was our least favorite item and if not for this the food would have been given 5 stars. Large latte - generous portion and delicious with the star of the show - a plain croissant! The ambiance is impeccably French cafe too but the way in which you order wasn't efficiently laid out; seemed a bit confusing. Perhaps it was simply due to there being a large group who were seated right near the slightly hidden cashier (to the side of the pastry display) or we weren't sure what to expect on our first time there. We sat outside and that was extremely pleasant. Definitely would go back for the croissant alone!

The croissant was on the crispier side, especially with the almond crumble on top it was a bit too cripsy for me, but I tend to like soft and flakey pastries so it's probably a matter of taste. There was a TON of almond filling in the middle. I enjoyed the taste and texture but it was too much filling for me personally. I would have liked more croissant in my croissant, so to say haha. The chocolate was slightly dark which worked well with the sweet pastry and filling! Overall I enjoyed the croissant but it was a tad too heavy on the filling and cripsy/crunchy for me.

We ate it the day after and threw it in the air fryer for a couple of minutes, and it was so delicious. The cruffin was huge! Topped with a delicious light Earl grey cream that wasn't too sweet. Their shokupan (white bread loaf) is probably better than ones I've had in Japan, and isn't made with preservatives, which is super rare nowadays. You can choose from thick or thin cut slices. Like many Japanese bakeries even in Japan, the fried curry bread and katsu (breaded and fried pork or chicken) sandwiches are already made, so don't expect anything cooked to order or served hot. Keeping that in mind, this place ticks off all the boxes and is worth the quick hop on the light rail.

There weren't any other customers inside and we were greeted with an empty display case in the front. While barren, the owner, a gruff* French gentlemen, confirmed that he still had choux pastry left with a choice of either vanilla, coconut, pistachio, or hazelnut. We decided to go with the pistachio, which he assembled fresh for us, first by piping pistachio cream inside the choux shell, then dipping in melted chocolate and sprinkling pistachio on top. Pistachio Choux ($6) - The choux is excellent, baked until deliciously crisp on the exterior while the inside remains soft, eggy, and tender. Since it's fresh filled and we ate it right afterwards, the cream never migrated to saturate the crust - I suspect people with issues with mushiness probably let the cream puff sit too long before consuming. The cream, which is piped to the brim, pushes out against the delicate shell, causing each bite to almost squirt out a bit of the luscious, silky whipped custard. The cream coats the lips and mouth with a layer of fat. It's not too sweet and has a light nutty pistachio flavor. The melted chocolate the top is dipped into glues on all of the pistachio dip. The chocolate is slightly bitter, yet sweet, so it helps cut through some of the rich silkiness of the cream. The pistachios on top act like a crumble, perhaps pulverized and melded with butter to create a very rich yet pistachio forward mix. It's strongly flavored, and the chocolate creates such a strong cement that none of the nuts detach while eating. (5/5) Panterelli was a huge surprise as it wasn't even on our radar until we walked past the shop randomly while exploring the Farmers Market. It's a definite revisit in the future! *The owner isn't nearly as welcoming as a typical American small business owner, but is certainly friendly and eager to chat. I also love his attitude - looks aren't that important; it's the taste the reigns supreme!
