I live in Cincinnati and everytime I come to Indy, I insist on having brunch at Patachou. Thankfully my friends live less than 5 minutes away, and love it too, so they don't complain. If you are a coffee lover, they have a self serve coffee bar. I skip that and go straight for the menu. I've honestly never had lunch here, only breakfast. Their omelettes are a good size, I usually get an egg white version of Hippie with a Benz. My friend loves the croissant french toast. But whatever you do, get the cinnamon toast. We were treated so poorly when we walked in that we left. We took a birthday cake in & were told it wasn't allowed. I have taken a cake into restaurants for many years & it's never been an issue. We were then told we weren't allowed to stand inside to wait. Meaning we would have to wait 45+ minutes in 50 degree weather with 2 little kids. Always loved this place. Went the other day and ordered chicken salad salad. Came out with very bland chicken salad on top of a few arugula greens, a half banana, a small chunk of tomato with core and a very stale mini chocolate muffin. Our daughter moved to Indianapolis a few years ago and we've had the occasion to visit quite often. Each time we visit, we are treated with a breakfast, lunch, or brunch at Patachou. We've visited several of their locations ( they have 6 including 1 at the airport) and each time have enjoyed our meals. The food and the service is always consistently good. Today's visit we tried the Cuban breakfast. It was a bit thin on black beans and some of the rice was undercooked but the pesto made up for these detractors. Everyone else in our party had omelettes and were very satisfied. This is honestly the first time I've had something to even mention that was a negative. Such a wonderful experience. I stopped by with a few friends on a Friday afternoon and was welcomed to so much coffee, coziness, and camaraderie. I ordered the Overachiever omelette with cinnamon toast and was most definitely not disappointed. The omelette was perfectly fluffy and flavorful without the horseradish overpowering the fresh ingredients. The cinnamon toast was great as well; it seemed like there was some sort of cinnamon/sugar/buttery spread on top of toasted white bread. Service was horrible! Our drinks were given immediately but beyond that we had to earn it I guess. Three of us ordered soup and sandwiches and the fourth person ordered a breakfast sandwich, not anything complicated. It took a solid 20 min to get the soup, which was good, but we were starving at this point. Our food came out 35 min after waiting the 20 for our soup. Waiting 55 min for a main course is out of control for a soup and sandwich. I nicely let the manner know, he said he'd take care of it. Whatever he did he pissed off our server who seemingly didn't care about her service skills anyway. We didn't get anything in return for the pathetic service, and from the point she got talked to on she was super rude. An Indianapolis institution is failing. This place has always had potential as their ambiance and menu selections are enticing. Don't get fooled by the crowds, it's because this place can't handle more then a couple of tables for business. The wait for our order as we sat at a dirty table was 15-20 min before they cleared off the table, took 10 min for them to take our order and then an hour for our food to come out and it was cold. Bad management, waitress never asked about our food, the menu was flung at us (first indicator of badness to come) and we had people leaving around us because they waited forever for their orders. There were plenty of servers and yet the kitchen was frantic and the kitchen staff seemed unorganized. Last time we will ever come here, there are newer and better choices for brunch/breakfast in Indy then to waste your morning turned into midday. read more

The local Patachou chain is so successful in Carmel! This location is so so cute with the cake display at the host stand, clean patio and pretty champagne bar. The menu has so many options, it's hard to narrow down what to order! Their coffee bar lets you pick a to-go cup or ceramic mug, and you can refill as much as possible during your trip. I had the Cinnadoodle coffee and it was so tasty. I also had a peach Bellini (hey, it was brunch). I couldn't really taste the peach until the end because all the syrup had sunk to the bottom. I created my own omelette with avocado, bacon and white cheddar and I was stuffed for the rest of the day. We didn't have an issue with the wait- we were actually seated right away! Great place!! This was actually a plan B one morning when the plan A we had chosen was closed for the holidays. It was quite the happy accident though! Decor inside is modern and super cute. It looks small from the outside but opens up more toward the back. They also have a good number of bar seats available. Our server was efficient and friendly. She told us about the omelette of the day but there were no specials besides that. My husband ended up with the California Dreamer omelette which he noted was spicier than he was expecting due to the raw jalapeños inside, but it wasn't too much for him (he just noted that I probably wouldn't love it). What I did love was the stuffed cinnamon toast I ordered. It had ricotta inside and was served with a bacon-infused syrup. Totally delicious! I also have to say, the side of fruit they served with both meals was way better than average. I love this place! When walking up to eat at Cafe Patachou it is very visibly pleasing. They have a nice outdoor seating area with a cute black and white design decorated on the tables and chairs, and on the awning in the patio area. The design features inside are just as clean and pleasing to look at and the black and white theme goes all throughout the restaurant. The waiting area/hostess stand right inside the door has a little coffee bar with drinks and dessert laid out. There was a cake and little pastries sitting out that were so tempting to eat! There is a big chalkboard behind the hostess stand that has a unique and fun design on it as well which I really liked. The ambiance they created with the place is great and gives it a very comfortable environment. Our waitress was very polite and greeted us before asking what drinks we wanted. He had a good sense of humor and was pretty attentive to us. We also got a to-go order, and the waiter accidentally forgot about it because they were quite busy at the time. He apologized when we asked for the to-go order and quickly brought it out to us 15 minutes later and apologized again. My meal was also great, I tried the "Omelette you can't refuse" and it definitely met the standards of the name given for it. It was one of the best omelets I've had! I got it without the sour cream, but the omelet had bacon, white cheddar, and potatoes that were SO good and high quality. I tried my sister's French toast which was also amazing. Had a pretty lovely experience at the clay terrace location over the weekend! When I went to order the spiked grapefruit slushee, the waiter explained that the apple one was better. I wasn't convinced it would be and I think he could tell because he offered to let me sample both before ordering. When paying eleven bucks for a slush, getting to taste both options before buying was really nice and helpful. I appreciated it. I did end up going with the Apple one and it was great! Not sure it was worth the price charged, but was good nonetheless. It was very light and crisp. I was ecstatic to see good gluten free options. I got the gf waffle. I haven't had a waffle in ages! I would've loved a nice crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside waffle with whipped or regular butter and syrup. This waffle was soft on the outside and soft on the inside - probably inevitable when using a gf waffle mix. The waffle had cinnamon sugar covering the top and was served with a fruit cup and syrup. So.... I was not at all a fan of having cinnamon sugar covering my waffle. It was so over the top sweet that it was almost hard to eat. It would've been amazing with just butter and syrup. I get trying to be classy or fancy or whatever and adding stuff to the top of it... but sometimes simple is better. I wanted to ask for butter to add a bit of saltiness or something to tone down the sugar, but our waiter didn't check on us once the food was delivered so I never had the opportunity. If I get the waffle again, I'll just ask for no sugar topping and butter on the side when I order. Overall the service was nice and friendly and we enjoyed our meal. Will be back! read more

I like the idea of a "student union for adults" I'm just not sure where the slogan makers went to school... in the best of ways. The food is much better than any student union I've visited- and I've been to over 70 different colleges and universities. Went here for breakfast last weekend for the first time. The food was good. I had a chorizo omelette, which was the special. It was delicious.The fresh greens (arugula) as a side was refreshing and very good. My daughter had the croissant French toast, different than any French toast we have ever had, but very tasty as well. The prices are reasonable. 2nd time here for lunch. Wife had BLT and I had chicken salad. Both were prepared to our liking and the fries are perfect. Wow! I went to Patachou for my birthday for brunch and it was the most wonderful experience ever. I was the first one there and was immediately seated! I ordered a mimosa- which was delicious! We had a large party: 7 and a baby. Our seventh guest was about 15 minutes late, but our waitress was very courteous and got our drink orders quickly. We decided to place our orders even though our last person hadn't arrived. We got our food after she had arrived. She placed her order and only had to wait a few minutes for it! This place is simply sad. I have been here a number of times throughout the years and they have managed to mess up something as simple as avocado toast about 75% of the time. I have been served with the avocado so thin it was like butter. And other times the avocado has turned brown before it reaches me. Sometimes the bread is cut sideways with one side incredibly thicker than the other, or burnt to a crisp. However today was the last straw. There was a giant rip in the bread. For the price of this ($9), I would expect absolute perfection. Avocado on bread is not hard to perfect. It is absolutely ridiculous that they have managed to get it wrong almost every time. You would think that if something looked off they would remake it before they brought it to you. It doesnt take more than a few minutes to remake. Or the waiter might notice and have them remake. But no, somehow it is perfectly okay to serve awful looking toast that is easy to make perfect, over and over. This shows the laziness and incompetence of the employees. The food is good / a 3 on a scale of 5. The service is so-so. The cleanliness is subpar. Pricy and the additional costs is annoying. I normally have the broken yolk sandwiches which are generally good, but pricy for a couple eggs. That being said, I am willing to pay, but charging $1.95 additional for a 2 oz portion cup of pesto sauce is prohibitive. Service is really "dry" and waiters have no empowerment to work with diners - at least that is my perception. Serving water or lemonade in a dirty glass is not cool and should normally reflect a discount on the bill, but never does. Servers appears to have too many tables and can't really serve any one table well. We've been here at least 6 times, but will not return since this has been a generous amount of time given to see improvements. Menu requests that you complain to them rather than posting, but that is not cool either and in our one experience doing so, nothing to was done. read more
