Tried this place with my first order of Door Dash! I'm rarely in this part of town, but delivery was quick and my pho was still hot on arrival. I got the basic rare beef pho, and there was only 1 size option. The quality was good. Broth was clear, and the thin cuts of steak were tender. The beef portion was great but I thought they were a bit stingy on the noodle portion. I almost thought they forgot them completely because the container was so empty! Most places are usually the other way around - heavy on the noodles, weak on the meat! I wish there were an option to add extra noodles and veggies. read more

Pre-ordered via Skipthedishes during the quarantine. Not sure as to why they're listed as Ong Ba online but as Cafe Phin and Pho here. Ordered the papaya salad, prawn salad rolls and the seafood pho. Always had the original beef pho so I thought I might give seafood a go this time. The prawn salad rolls were large and flavourful with the peanut hoisin sauce while the papaya salad was nicely seasoned and portions were average size. The seafood pho, unfortunately, was a swing and a miss. The beef broth was very watered down and a lot of hoisin sauce was required to give it flavour. It came with 3 prawns, 3 slivers of squid and fish cake as well as 2 fake crab rolls/surimi. I was expecting a bowl of broth that was flavoured very well with hints of cinnamon and star anise but this one definitely did not hit that mark. Might try other dishes next time but will definitely give the pho a miss. read more

Very friendly staff ready to greet you with a smile. The new owners go out if their way to get to know you and welcome you personally. Tuesday we got lucky to see their photo shoot of their food. They hired a professional company to have a photographer photograph their food for the website or new menu. They're revamping they're image. Now into the food. You place your order at the counter, pay and then go to get seating. They somehow remember which order goes to who and they bring the dishes to you. The pho #11 had perfect rare beef. I was still able to see the pinkness. Very good start. Great presentation too. Everything you order has great presentation. The taste of the broth fell short. It was easy too mild. At one point we weren't sure if it's from a can. I think the photo shoot might have played a majority as to the short cut. We were speaking to the owner and he's very passionate about getting a new look and image. I think he was pressured cooking up every dish on the menu that he might have over extended himself. Awesome and authentic Vietnamese food stop in Vancouver! After my friends and I walked all around Stanley Park, we were all hangry and in dire need of food. Luckily, my friend (Kellie C.) had already done her research and had Cafe Phin and Pho on her list of restaurants to check out. The cafe is on the smaller size, but there are some tables and seats if you want to enjoy your food there. One of my favourite Vietnamese places so far, and definitely the best vegetarian spring rolls I've ever had. I actually like the vegetarian ones here better than the meat ones! They're big and just crunchy enough, packed with goodies and served with that great sauce. The beef pho is great here too, among the best I've had in town - the noodles and meat are very flavorful, the portion is hearty, the broth is delicious. Not bad at all for such an unassuming place. The staff are friendly and the food prep is lightning quick, or at least it was when I stopped by around lunch on a Saturday. This is one of my go-tos for Vietnamese food, and I hope they stick around for a while! read more

The moment I ate the noodle, it tasted so salty and not sure if that was msg I tasted. Beef slices and noodle were good though. The broth here is excellent--I was craving vegetarian pho and my boyfriend got the beef trio. I thought my soup was very flavorful despite being vegetable based, and enjoyed the fried tofu. I tried a sip of my boyfriend's broth too and thought the beef brought a whole new depth of flavor and would've loved it, too, if I was in the mood for meat. I recommend throwing in some of their homemade (?) chili if you're craving some spice! While I really liked the broth, I was pretty disappointed by the amount of noodles. I couldn't tell if they were running low since we were there so late (9 PM), or what, but I'd say you could probably get like five good mouthfuls of noodles total (weird unit of measurement, but hopefully the point comes across??). On another take out run and ordered their five spice pork belly combo with 1 meat spring roll and a lemon grass chicken banh mi. My order was ready when I arrived and she asked what I ordered to verify it was me. Good control system! Too bad there wasn't any coffee on their online menu and it takes 10 mins when I asked if I could order one on the spot. I didn't want to wait 10 mins but next time when I'm not in such a rush I'll order one. The spring roll was one of the best I've had. I absolutely love their fish sauce. It went well with the noodle dish and it went well with my spring roll. The pork belly was very fragrant and tasted good. It was a bit on the dry side but that's ok. The one disappointment in this dish was that the description was papaya salad and it was just a regular salad with no dressing. Also tried the lemon grass chicken which was listed as their most popular and I like spicy so I got it with spicy mayo and jalapenos. They mean business when you ask for spicy! Again, not a 5 star dish just because the bread was too crunchy with absolutely no fluffiness to it. Pretty good! Small little place on Denman, homely vibe to it. Young guy at the counter was welcoming and friendly, and it looks like he was running the shop and making the sandwiches. Sub was good but a bit over toasted. Fillings were not bad, but lots of pickled veg. Salad rolls were definitely fresh. Didn't have to wait too long to get the food. Parking is a pain though, as to be expected at that part of Denman. Overall it's good, I'll be back to try the soups as they get some great reviews. read more

Ordered the $6.49 salad rolls for take out. I was given the option to have one roll avocado and the other tofu lemongrass. It was late Sat afternoon and 2 people were eating at the restaurant. Food arrived around 5 minutes later in a take out plastic bag. A plastic clamshell container kept the rolls protected. Basic napkins, a mango candy, and larger single size container of peanut sauce was included. The rolls were uncut and above average size. Lettuce was the dominant ingredient and at times overpowering. Large cuts of cucumber lacked polish. The tofu lemongrass roll provided more flavour than the avocado roll because of the smoky marinade and saltiness. Peanut sauce consisted of sweet and slightly acidic flavors. Below average in taste and lacking peanut flavour and balance. Overall you get above average sized portions with lackluster flavours. Peanut sauce formulation was bland and could use more savory peanut flavors. Rice noodles were not included in the roll. We stumbled in here after a long walk in English Bay not knowing what to expect. We were getting hangry [hungry to the point of anger], and impulsively walked in. Appearances were pretty average. We ordered the "most popular" lemongrass chicken bowl ($8.99) and the prawn salad rolls ($5.89). I had no real expectations when my food arrived. I took the first bite and BAM! flavour mania. The bowl was so well balanced that I couldn't help but get excited! The chicken looked like plain white meat strips, but was seasoned to perfection and had a great bite due to the crispy onion garnish. The carrot and cucumber salad had a mysterious minty flavour, a welcome twist on a classic. I was even impressed with the vermicelli- I find most Vietnamese spots don't toss it in oil so it clumps and sticks, but these noodles were perfect. Overall, a kick-ass lunch! New noodle place by the corner in the spot of what used to be the House of Empanadas. Sad it's gone! But I also like noodles so I thought I'll still support something local. They currently have a 10 dollar special until dec 15 for a banh mi, rolls, pho and something else but that's way too much food. I ordered the house special seafood spring rolls and special pho. The spring rolls were delicious!!! They came super fast unlike other places since they are in a warm box but were perfectly crispy. Came w a very small side radish salad. Eventhough it was seafood it could've passed for meat. The pho was decent. Best part was the broth it just exploded w flavour. I don't know if my buds are going crazy because of flavour or perhaps salt. The noodles weren't typical pho noodles and the meat was nothing to write home about. I had my 2 year old with me and the lady clean the tables asked me to move my child so he won't be in her way very rudely.. Clearly one of the best wonton soup I have ever had. Very close to the Wonton I had during my Hongkong trip last year. The soup broth is Msg-free ( I'm allergic and very sensitive to MSG). The veggie is crunchy and the wonton are super chubby. We are new to the shop and did not sure what to order at 1st. The waitres at the counter walked us through the menu with very detailed advice and we finally got our eyes on the wonton soup and chicken banh mi. I walked far to check out this place and it was worth it. It's not much to look at when you walk in, but boy do they make it up in their food. The lemongrass chicken sub was so good. It was so yummy I didn't care that there was no pate which I normally expect in an authentic Vietnamese sub. The ingredients were fresh and the chicken was tasty. The tofu roll had large pieces of tofu and they itself were fairy big rolls. I like that they added carrots and cucumber rather than fill it with noodles like a lot of places do. The peanut sauce was a bit oily, but other than that I can't wait to go back! read more

As my friend and I walked down Denman Street, the wonderful scent drifting through the open door at Ong Ba drew us in. I don't know how long it's been open, but I do know they serve up delicious bahn mi (sandwiches) for only $6. That's for a whole one, not half, which is what I'm usually served at Vietnamese sandwich shops. I ordered lemongrass chicken and my friend had the five spice pork belly, and both were declared delicious. All ingredients fresh on a crisp baguette, just the way they should be. I wasn't crazy about the large slice of cucumber down the middle, but that was easily removed. Lovely sauce, cilantro... no complaints from either of us. Ong Ba also serves up delicious-smelling Pho in various incarnations and rice and vermicelli plates, which we will try on future visits. A very friendly (and attractive) young lady served us at the counter. There are a few tables and counters with stools for eat-in. Several take-out customers came and went as we sat and enjoyed our sandwiches. Lots of cold drinks in the serve-yourself fridge. read more

Dropped by just before close to get a mango passionfruit smoothie. I really like the variety of smoothies here, not usually found elsewhere such as avocado, honey lychee and pineapple guava. This is my kind of place. Clean, quick, and delicious. I find the people very pleasant, and I like to sit by the window and people watch while I eat a nice bowl of pho soup. The only thing that would be better is if the location was larger, but real estate is expensive in Vancouver so... you know... I think I'm going to try take out tonight. Never done that before, but I bet it's going to be just as awesome as eating in. I can't believe I live so close to such an awesome pho place!! I entered and asked if their sandwich chicken was deep fried and she told me "no of course not, its chicken!" in a condescending manner. I paid $6.83 with tax (mind you these sandwiches ought to be not more than $3.50 - $4.50 because of little to cheap ingredients). As soon as I paid she says "can you take the this to go?" and I asked "are you closed?" she says yes! I told her I would be done by the time her table of three would be finished eating. She said "ok then you have 20 minutes" - I nearly asked for my money back but explained that I went to a few other places and they were closed and I am coming from a long distance and hungry. I didn't realize I was to beg to get food when they still had an open sign out and door WIDE OPEN. A man came and got his TO GO meal. Another came in and ordered my chicken but with rice. Really? Suddenly he didn't have to take it to go? Aren't they closed? My sandwich had very little chicken meat, a lot of spicy mayo, iceberg, 1 strand of cilantro, carrots and cuke. That was it. No jalapeno or really enough chicken. i could get a nice deli sandwich, gourmet italian sandwich or anything for $9 (2 dollars more). Wow, just wow! After a long trek around Stanley Park, our large group stormed into the place like a swarm of locusts, ready to consume anything in our path. We tried all the banh mi from #1 through #5, and each of them was distinctly different yet delicious. The bread was nice and soft and the filling was more than generous. It was hard to decide which one was our favorite, but the pork belly ended up edging out the traditional ham. Service was attentive and accommodating!
