Came her on a Saturday at 12 and not too busy at all. You order at the counter and employees were so friendly. I like that the menu has healthy options. Portions are large breakfast burrito was a little too big. It was very messy too I would not order that again. Great ambiance. Drinks and coffee here as well. Reasonably priced. Overall would come here again but order something else.
Food was amazing! The Benedict's were very flavorful, I only wish they added a little bit more crab cause I felt like it wasn't enough but non the less it was really good. Banana French toast, probably one of the best French toasts I've tasted, it was very flavorful and well balanced. Service was great, I thought it was a little odd that you wait to be seated but you have to get up to order. Cafe was cute, very open and airy, lots of windows! Definitely will be going back to try their seafood trio rolls lol
Breakfast here was phenomenal! Driving in the area when in town found this place and was pleasantly surprised. You walk in get seated and then you'll order at the counter and they will drop it off. I had the breakfast burrito with Chorizo. So good! Service was good considering I placed my order myself. hehe Honey loved his breakfast sammie too! Loved it!
The food is amazing. They definitely do a great job with variety and the flavors. The service was great granted - you have to order at the counter and tip before you even get your food and or service which I am not a fan of. If you need anything, you have to get up and go ask for it at the counter. Smaller location, but they do have parking which is great and we were seated quickly .
I was looking for a good breakfast spot while visiting Portland and Cafe Rowan came up. I got the Lobster Benedict ($27), Chatham Burrito ($16), and a drip coffee ($3.50). The burrito was pretty good. It was filled with scrambled eggs, chorizo, and potatoes and came with two small sauces on the side. I like that it was toasted. It was very large; I took half for leftovers. The Lobster Benedict I did not like. It had a single large piece of toast (brioche?) on the bottom, not English muffins. It came with two poached eggs, shaved asparagus, watermelon radish, avocado, hollandaise, old bay seasoning, and lots of greens on top. It had way too many ingredients, flavors, and sauces. It had some nice pieces of lobster, but they were lost among everything else. The toast was a little difficult to cut with my knife. They need to completely rethink this dish. The space is rather basic and spare, without much decoration. Service is non-existent; you order at a counter, get your own water, drip coffee is self-serve, and you bus your table.
"Have you tried the lobster roll at Cafe Rowan?" is a question I was asked several times before I made it here. Luckily, I came on a Thursday where you can get a lobster roll and mimosa for $20! Great deal! Deal is Wednesday or Thursday - normally $35 or so. It was fresh, tender, briny, buttery lobster served in a warm, soft, yet crispy bun. I loved it! I only wished it was larger - it's small - but still delivers! The breakfast sandwich was good, but the eggs were a little overdone. My friend's eggs were runny - mine were not. The gochujang flavor was mild - sausage and bun both scrumptious! Latte and Mimosa were both delicious, too! It's counter service and casual vibes. I would definitely eat the lobster roll again!
First time going here and it was good but was expecting more flavor. The food is plated beautifully but there's not much there for the price. I got their special the BLTA. It had flavor but just like any other BLTA. My husband got their crab eggs Benedict. It had lots of flavor but he said he was still hungry at the end. The service is good; they have you order at the counter which makes it easier to just leave when you're done. I do wish the waitress/ waiters would check up more often. The ambiance is great.

Brunch is best. Brunch here is lovely. Rarely is incredible presentation matched with equal flavor. This place got close. Really good food, but it was so pretty I almost didn't want to eat it. But honestly, it never stood a chance. A real simple yet diverse menu. The French toast was unique and tasty. Love the concept. Breakfast burrito was huge and very good. Honestly, the most incredible part of this meal was the salsa. They do an incredible job with the salsa. Idk if that gets talked about in regards to this place. Overall great brunch spot. No brainer. Pretty darn good! Very fast service. We were offered a table outside and didn't realize the seats were damp- wooden bench absorbed water oops! Wish they didn't offer that today or had sat and tested before offering it. The bowl had really nice eggs, wish it had more potatoes. I didn't eat the edamame it was too tough, the leaves of lettuce and kale were buried at the bottom with no flavor so just left them alone. My friend enjoyed her benny, she said good. Not WOW enough to return any time soon but glad we went once
Went to this place for brunch and I have mixed feelings about it. You have to order beforehand at front but they will bring the food to you. We got seat right next to the dirty dishes and it's kind close to it. So if someone accidentally dropped some dishes a little hard it would get those dirty stuff on us. They have WAY too many cilantro on my dish! I ordered lobster egg Benedict! It's a bit over seasoned! Tasted very salty but the veggies balanced it out a bit. I personally do not like cilantro and it didn't mention on the menu. When I got this dish I was so shocked how much cilantro in it! Thankfully the server was so nice!! He was able to help me fix it and took out a lot of cilantro. I also ordered espresso martini and wow it tasted pretty strong and it has a gingery taste! It's unique and amazing! Definitely give it a try!! My husband got the harvest burrito and it was sooo good! It was my first time trying squash! And wow the whole dish tasted amazing! Highly recommend that! Overall, I like this place but the lobster egg Benedict was a bit too salty! And way too much cilantro

Amazing food and service the bananas and foster French toast and the lobster roll was out of this world. But the Dungeness crab eggs Benedict you can't really taste the crab because the other flavors overwhelm it a little bit. Definitely try super good food and kind staff :) read more

Crab. Benedit. I don't think I need to say anything else, but I will. The hollandaise and crab is absolute perfection, and it's served in the prettiest of ways. I love the addition of asparagus as well. I wish the bread was more crispy as it does get pretty soggy in the middle after a few minutes, but other than that I wouldn't change a damn thing. My husband ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito and I was pretty stunned at how massive it was. I snuck a few bites and definitely need to order one myself on the next visit. The coffee is also excellent. This place does have a small parking lot, it was pretty full (even on a weekday) but we snagged a spot and this is so nice to have! read more
I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Portland. Friendly staff and superior food quality. Open kitchen = meaning they are very confident with their skills and ingredients I also tried their lobsters and they are absolutely incredible, I would def say they are the best lobsters I have had on the West Coast for sure The owner/head chef Spencer always take the time to greet the guests no matter how busy it gets. Where to start...in a nutshell must try brunch spot!! Arrived on a Sunday around 11am, there were a few open tables of 2 but they were scattered around the restaurant. We were a party of 6 people, the waitress was kind enough to ask a couple who just were seated to move over some tables so she could combine a few of the open tables and convert it into 6 for us. The restaurant is a order at the cashier and not truly 100% table service. They give you an order number for the table andwill bring out food to your table. One of the chefs brought out their dungeness crab egg benefit (it was their daily special for today) for our table and said it was complimentary on him just because. My friend and I ordered the shrimp & grits and unfortunately they were out of the banana foster French toast so we pivoted and got the Chatham breakfast burrito. The crab Benedict was delicious! Shrimps & grits was amazing, the shrimp was perfectly seasoned and grilled. The Chatham breakfast burrito was HUGE and very filling. The plating of each dish was beautifully done. All of the portion sizes and flavors matches the price point of their menu. We also tried the bloody Mary flight, very interesting versions of bloody Mary. Glad I tried but I think I would have stuck to just their basic house bloody. 5 star service and 5 star food. Must try!!! I shall be back for another visit. read more

The bright and colorful micro-greens and florals used to plate Cafe Rowan dishes really grabbed my attention while I was researching lunch spots this morning. Aside from a few minor exceptions, I was really pleased with my dining experience. There is much I love about this restaurant. The venue is bright and spacious, built around an open kitchen. The staff are friendly and approachable, and they seem to have a solid grasp on their menu when presented with questions about ingredients or preparation methods. My friend and I ordered shrimp & grits and the lobster roll, and our food was delivered expeditiously. The shrimp and grits were plated beautifully, but ended up being a little too salty to fully enjoy. The lobster roll was so incredibly delicious I was embarrassed by how quickly I ate it! However, I feel it was lacking the same finesse in presentation the other dishes have. The over-salted grits were probably an isolated incident and I won't hold it against the restaurant. They were very communicative and offered an apology the dish wasn't completely to our liking. So there it is... the ambiance, the presentation, and the friendly staff place Cafe Rowan on my shortlist of favorite lunchtime hotspots I'll return to. read more

A decent brunch restaurant with great foods. The reason why I give 4 stars is that it is too busy. Arriving at 9:15, we had to wait until fortunately finding bar seats (and luckily got only left parking spot). With 9 year old, it was not the best setting when expecting more relaxed Sunday brunch. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we loved lobster roll and lox egg benedict. Living near Beaverton, I don't think we can come often. But if you live closer or in the downtown, give it a try! read more

This is a cute little brunch spot. You'll find a table then order food at the counter and it will be delivered to you then you bust your own table. The brunch food was good and garnish was beautiful. We ordered the banana French toast, avocado toast and eggs Benedict. Everything was tasty and I'll be coming back to try their dinner. I really loved the tomatoes that they put in the eggs benny, I think the flavor went very well with the white truffle hollandaise. The banana French toast was a little crisp on the outside but still soft on the inside. The avocado toast was really fresh but I suggest you biting into it instead of trying to cut it with a knife Dinner is by reservation only so give them a call if you're interested! I think they are 5 course meals if I remember correctly from the note I saw that day on their door. read more
Super cute little brunch spot! First off, I wanted to list a few important things to know before coming here (things I wish I knew ahead of time). 1. The parking lot is super tiny so do not expect to find parking there. Street parking is your best bet. 2. The restaurant itself is pretty small, and since it is first come first serve on seating, you may be waiting around for a table. 3. You order your food at the counter. I did not read any reviews before coming here, and thought this was a sit down restaurant where they serve you. When I walked inside, I stood there waiting to be seated. One of the employees realized I had no idea what I was doing and was nice enough to explain how things worked there. I was lucky enough to grab one of the last tables. Once you order and get a table, the food is brought to you. With how busy they were, service was quite fast. We ordered the avocado toast, banana French toast, and jamon eggs Benedict. In my opinion, the avocado toast was subpar. I thought it tasted a little bland, and the toast was really hard. On the other hand, I loved the other two dishes. I love ordering both a sweet and savory dish when I am out to brunch. The banana french toast was fluffy and sweet, which paired perfectly with the banana. I really like egg Benedict's and the jamon eggs Benedict did not disappoint. It was everything a Benedict should be. It was hard for us to try this place due to the hours and where we live. We finally got to try and decided on the dame and the lobster rolls. Overall the dame was very good. The meat was juicy and added a lot of flavor with the sauce. I did add more ketchup because it needed a little something. The lobster rolls had a good flavor and the brioche bun had a nice buttery like flavor. We felt the lobster rolls were slim for the price. There are definitely more items on the menu we may try in the future. read more

Absolutely divine! I've eaten here a few times and am finally ready to review this East Portland gem. Today I had the special Kimchi Pork Benedict. The sauce on this incredible pile of greatness had perfect flavor and the toast underneath was crispy throughout my entire breakfast(not soggy!) I also had a lilikoi mojito that was made perfectly. I think Cafe Rowan has the best varieties of Benny's in town, and they are perfectly concocted. Also, this is the type of place to bring a date or bring your parents when they are in town. Came for brunch and there was a small wait. After being seated by staff, you have to order at their kiosk and the staff will bring your food out to you. I got the rowan breakfast sandwich as it had it's name on it. Overall, it was just okay. The bun was oily and everything else was okay. The thick cut bacon was crispy and not super oily. There was a slight sweet and savory taste with the sandwich as there is jam in it. read more

I love, love brunch and Cafe Rowan adds to my obsession. Offering brunch on the weekends, they are a counter service cafe with a wide array of food options from their famous Dungeness crab benedicts, lobster rolls, french toast, breakfast burritos, toasts, and breakfast sandwiches. We got their chatham breakfast burrito and banana fosters french toast. Both were wildly delicious. The breakfast burrito was massive and the eggs, chorizo, potatoes were everything a breakfast burrito should be and have. The housemade salsa was spicy and refreshing. If you're craving a breakfast burrito - this is it. The french toast was the perfect sweet contrast to the burrito. Thick brioche covered in coffee-infused maple syrup, miso caramel, bananas, and toasted walnut crumble - it was like a banana fosters, banana bread, bread pudding all in one. The toast had a nice crisp, not soggy, and while it was sweet, it wasn't overwhelming. Man it was good. Seemingly unassuming and smiple, Cafe Rowan is just the opposite. Bold flavors with a creative menu, this brunch is not to be missed! read more

This might be my new favorite brunch spot in Portland. The food was absolutely amazing. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce was incredibly flavorful. I could eat this french toast every single day. It was unlike any other french toast I've ever had in the best way possible. Will 100% be back. read more

Delicious!! We've had carry out a few times here for lobster rolls and breakfast sandwiches. Being from the east coast, I miss my crab and lobsta. Saw a lobster and grits pictures on Instagram and decided to eat in today. So glad I came. Parked right in the back (glad I have a small car, but ample parking). While there were no tables upon arrival, a kind woman came over and advised she'd clean off a table for us (a kind couple saw us waiting and got up). We were checked in on by someone else in the meantime too! Seated quickly and advised to order at the counter. Easy. Mimosa was large and in charge and worth $18 for the large . The lobster and grits was delicious and came out pretty quickly. Maybe not quite as hot as I'd like, but it did come right from kitchen. Decent chunks of lobster. My husband didn't love the crisp bacon jam with it, but I did! The owner came by to check on us. Super kind (knew it was him from IG) and he was chatting with everyone. We'll be back! Great little spot! Great food and friendly staff. They're participating in dumpling week this year. I ordered the lobster and prawn dumplings in a delicious Tom Kha broth. Also ordered one of their famous lobster rolls. They are small, but very tasty! I would definitely recommend this spot! I'll be back! read more

Cafe Rowan might have just became my favorite restaurant of all time.... Makes me wish I lived in Oregon!!! Eating anywhere in Portland can be a pain due to parking but Cafe Rowan had a little parking lot. I was sooooo pleasantly surprised. I was scrolling on Yelp when I came across this spot. I eat with my eyes so when I saw the micro greens and flower on the already pretty dishes I was sold! The interior is beautiful and I loved the dog decor (Rowan is the owners beautiful dog). I ordered the shroom toast (best meal I've ever had), birria huevos rancheros, & the bananas foster French toast. Every single bite was delicious. I cannot say enough good things about Cafe Rowan. I can't wait to go back and try some other plates and dinner. 1000000/10!! read more

01/14/2023: 3.7 out of 5 - I came here with my wife and another from my Saturday morning training group. We wanted to try something new for brunch after getting our butts kicked. Cafe Rowan is mainly a neighborhood eatery, but with a bit more upscale presentation. This is how I score it: SERVICE - 4.0 out of 5. Cafe Rowan is counter service where you order, pay, and then sit. They will call out your drinks where you have to pick up at the counter. However, the food is brought out to your table based on your table number. Overall, good but room for improvement for this kind of eatery. PRICE - 4.0 out of 5. Surprisingly, there is a good range of prices going from $10 sandwiches, which looked tasty when I looked at other people's plates, to some much higher items with choices that look tasty for the price. Unfortunately, we can't try it all, so my wife opted for us to have the Deluxe Lobster Roll, and that was $50.00. Yeah I know...yikes! TIPPING - 2.0 out of 5. Honestly, here is where I've been quite annoyed with services lately. Tipping should be for exceptional service that is above and beyond the baseline. Everywhere in Portland, every business seems to now start tipping at either 18% or 20%. Cafe Rowan is no exception to this. And, this is mainly counter service, and you are asked to clean up after yourself. In my opinion, that's a pretty piss-poor business practice. QUALITY - 4.0 out of 5. Now this is where the food comes in. As I stated earlier, we got the $50 Deluxe Lobster Roll. My wife wanted it because there was sea urchin, black garlic, truffle aioli, and of course, Maine Lobster. In my opinion, it was tasty but it wasn't substantial. Considering the cost and portions of the ingredients, it could have been a little bigger. However, like I said, it was tasty. Our friend got the Chatham Burrito breakfast burrito. Since it was too much for our friend, he shared some of it with me. For the price, portion, ingredients and tastiness, Cafe Rowan did a great job with this breakfast burrito. ESTABLISHMENT - 4.5 out of 5. Let's be honest, Cafe Rowan is more like a neighborhood eatery, but a bit more upscale. There is a nice airy design about it that works for the space. The bathroom is clean, the vents are clean (no caking of dust!) and it wasn't overly loud. Great on the senses. Overall, I feel that Cafe Rowan has something there, but hasn't quite reached its potential. This only means there's room for better. However, when visiting, do bear in mind that the parking lot, and this is no fault on Cafe Rowan, is VERY TIGHT. Often after each meal, I would ask at the table, "Would you come back?". For me, there's a probability that I would because I do want to try Cafe Rowan's breakfast sandwiches...all three of them. Despite this review, I will always say to anyone: Try it once and decide for yourself. Enjoy! read more
It was located on the corner which a very small parking lot in the back. We had to park in the neighborhood which was a short walk to the restaurant. Upon walking in, we found a table for our party. We sat there for awhile and was confused as to why no one has come to take our orders. We saw servers walking back and forth. It took awhile to realize that we had to go to the counter to place the order for food and coffee. It would have been nice to be told that. The coffee tasted sour. I had only two sips and couldn't drink anymore. The crab Benedict was as delicious as it looked. The presentation definitely made the trip worthwhile. There was a good balance in flavor. The shaved asparagus was a great addition. The dish was not heavy or overly smothered with hollandaise sauce. It was very tasty and light. If you're hungry, make sure to order more food. It was an okay first experience. We had to get our own utensils because the staff didn't really pay attention to our party. It was a bus your own table establishment which was fine. It just would have been nice as first timers to be directed to the counter if we were sitting there for a good 15-20 minutes. But definitely worth trying the crab Benedict! read more

The Benedict was okay, but wasn't as flavorful as I expected. The lobster roll was so buttery and delicious and the breakfast sandwich was really good. The jam on the sandwich was great! read more

Cafe Rowan is a small almost hidden corner cafe spot full of delightful surprises! Our group of 7 was a tight squeeze since the space isn't set up for larger groups. But we arrived early to be the first in the door and made it work. The coffee hits the spot, and the staff are incredibly nice and hospitable. I ordered the avocado toast. It was a little on the salty side but I did pair it with a strong cortado so I'd recommend a lighter pairing. The micro greens and fresh farm to table dish were so savory and the dish was just the right amount of food. read more
