Walking into Cafe Soriah for the first time I instantly knew why I heard such great things about this quaint cafe. The quite hum of chatter coming from the small tables was a welcome change to my usual "casual" dining choices. While it may not have a dress code per se, you definitely want to wear something a bit nicer than your Applebees outfit. We were seated in the back dining room at a small table for two. Served promptly by our sweet server Megan. She gave us the daily specials. We chose calamari and fried oysters. Both were great. The light breading on the calamari was crisp, and there was a hint of spice and saltiness. Which came from being tossed with capers and jalapeños. The fried oysters were also lightly breaded and fried. I will tell you I get oysters anywhere I go, if offered. And these were the best fried oysters I have ever had! The sauce it came with....I would smother ANYTHING with it!! We also ordered the Dolmas. I throughly enjoyed them. It was different having them warm. But we enjoyed them. My partner got Steak Diane. It was fun to watch the owner cook it right in front of us. Being a foodie it's like being at the coveted chefs table. It was a beautiful filet mignon glazed in a red wine sauce and mushrooms. Served with fluffy mashed potatoes and steamed mixed veggies. He was a very happy guy. I ordered the lamb tagine. The lamb was very tender. Seasoned with cinnamon, ginger, and saffron it was absolutely a new flavor to me. I can appreciate the flavors. It was served with rice pilaf and steamed mix veggies. The dessert was rice pudding. Scented with orange peel and topped with crushed pistachios. It was our favorite. But the crème brûlée....OMG. It was so smooth and silky. This is undoubtedly in my top 3 desserts! First time reviewer --I need to share my bizarre experience. Ate here with a friend on his birthday. They checked his ID when he ordered wine. No comment on the birthday. I can't say my own mind is a steel trap yet the large homemade cake I brought with me didn't raise any suspicions either. The cake was whisked to the kitchen. The chicken came but barely. ~$30 buys you an ounce and a half of chicken with rice that's simultaneously too oily and dryer than the Mojave. Time for cake. A third waiter (or chef) notifies us there will be a service fee for delivering it back to the table. This is most assuredly mandatory. I am denied some fresh plates or even the ability to choose how much of my own cake I'd like to eat because slices are then served to us. Half of us are now 95% sure they ate some in the kitchen because the sizes simply don't add up. The bill comes and it's double my entire meal with tip. I am weirded out, silently furious that I paid someone to eat my own baked goods, unimpressed, and sorely saddened that the Glenwood no longer serves dinner. Maybe then I could go support a great Eugene fixture and order the chicken scandia I longed for as I swallowed down this meal. read more

As a moderately new pescatarian its pretty hard to find a good date spot for my fiance and I, but today Cafe Soriah reminded me they're always a favorite option. The wait staff was super friendly and our server Kayla was very helpful and nice. When I asked for no butter (I'm dairy free as well) she immediately offered a basalmic and oil option for their house made bread. It was very tasty and made for a great start to our meal. Our appetizer was the Hummus and Babbaganoosh plate with pita bread and pickled vegetables. The hummus was a bit bland but everything else was fantastic. The Babbaganoosh was packed with herbs and spices, the pita bread was warm and the pickled vegetables broke up the richness perfect. My fiance had the rib eye with demo glace, mashed potatoes and vegetables and loved it. She can't wait for the steam and egg leftovers tomorrow! My entree was the seafood paella. It was my first time trying the dish and my mind was blown. Steamed clams and muscles that were the best seafood I've had in years along with perfectly cooked salmon and calamari rings in a fish broth over jasmine rice. I couldn't believe how many levels of flavor this dish had! I raved the entire meal! They had a few desert options, even a dairy free option, bit we were too full lol! My sister is moving out of town, and my family wanted to have a nice dinner before she goes, so we chose Cafe Soriah! We got a reservation for 3 on a Wednesday night, and tables were filled, but it definitely didn't feel crowded inside. The space is bright and upscale, in a beautiful and old Eugene building. Our server was very nice, and drinks came out immediately! I ordered the Ciao Chello, which was a champagne and limoncello cocktail that was absolutely delicious and refreshing. We were then given an overview of the specials for the day, and after our orders were placed, we waited no longer than 15 minutes for our appetizer to come out: the beef kofta. It had 2 skewers of perfectly cooked meat, and a delicious tzatziki. Our entrees came out shortly after, I ordered the pan seared duck breast with the cherry sauce. The duck was cooked to perfection, and the texture was amazing. The sweetness of the cherry paired perfectly with the duck and mashed potatoes. I was very happy that I decided on the duck, because it is not something I would typically order! My sister ordered the ribeye and my dad the beef bourguignon, which they both enjoyed. Our experience here was wonderful! We made a reservation and I'm glad we did because the patio was completely filled by the time we left. It was beautiful weather to sit out on the patio. There was even a guitarist lightly playing music throughout our whole meal! And I got to enjoy watching the chef cook a few dishes out there as well. It was just a really pleasant evening. All of the servers were very nice and friendly. And the food was excellent! My husband opted for the ribeye and I chose a vegetarian special of asparagus ravioli with garlic Alfredo sauce. It was so rich and creamy! The fresh baked bread was delicious as well and we split the chocolate mousse for dessert. But my favorite thing was probably the goat cheese salad. It was SO good!! I highly recommend it if you are a salad lover like me. I left our date feeling so satisfied and relaxed. I will gladly come back here again in the future. The atmosphere and ambiance of this place is like stepping into a restaurant when times were simpler. You don't need an app to order any appetizers. You could have travelled by horse with no one staring to order your main course and wine pairing. The back patio is like a dreamy fairytale where marriage proposals happen on the daily. All the food we ordered looked great and came in very generous portions, but didn't quite live up to appearances. The highlight was saganaki, a fried cheese in a bubbling lemon-olive oil marinade. It was a tasty and generous serving. The baby trio offered a beautiful assortment of pickled vegetables, stuffed grape leaves and spreads (baba ganoush and hummus). The spreads lacked flavor. The seafood paella looked fantastic and came with a generous amount of seafood... but the rice was undercooked and swimming in a mild broth The prawns Jericho also looked great, but we felt the seasoning was a bit off. We selected this restaurant for the late hours, we made reservations for 9:30pm, the restaurant has its own private parking so this was a great start. We were greeted by our host and seated near the back, the tables are setup with china, wine glasses, and tablecloth, in a clean elegant fashion. Bread and butter was brought to our table, the bread was not freshly baked. We started with two classic Caesar salads, and a Spinach with Roasted Beets salad, both fresh and generous. For my main dish I was served a Grilled Ribeye steak, cooked medium for a good juicy tenderness, nicely seasoned, served with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies, nice and still crispy, not soggy and overlooked. My two companies ordered small plates, one with a serving of Souvlaki that are tender beef skewers and Greek yogurt/ cucumber tzatziki dressing on the side, the meat was really tender but slightly low on seasoning, the tzatziki sauce was clearly made with low fat or non-fat greek yogurt (it lacked creaminess). The other small plate was Sambosik, deep fried pastry filled with ground lamb with pine nuts and spices, served with jalapeños salsa tahini lemon sauce (at first, I thought it had too much cumin, but when you add the salsa and lemon sauce it all comes together to a perfect blend of flavors). i've been here twice now and the first time was nice but this past time was unfortunately not good at all. This time the food, from the appetizer bread to the entrees, was not hot at all. the food in general was not good. the mushroom risotto in particular was unflavorful and the texture was off. the pumpkin ravioli thing wasn't great either, but i'm sure if the plates were hot, that would have a made a great difference. the staff were friendly and accommodating, just wasn't a good dinner ESPECIALLY considering how expensive it is. read more

It's a nice spot but way overpriced for the meals presented. To be honest the items on the plates tasted like they were reheated from previous day, yes meaning (leftovers). Small portions and very bland in taste....if I wanted leftovers I would had just bought a frozen meal from the grocery store. If you're too busy to make a fresh and tasty meal...then I would suggest at least lowering your prices by at LEAST HALF. I don't see myself dining there again.... even if their prices were lowered based off quality of meals. Extremely disappointed, especially for how much Cafe Soriah charges their patrons. After reading many amazing reviews online, & realizing Cafe Soriah is located not far from our neighborhood, we decided to spend my birthday dinner here last night. We made reservations for 7:30 PM and arrived five minutes early. We were served cold bread while we waited to place our order. Thank goodness for the bread -- It took them 40 minutes to deliver our food (8:11 PM is when we received our meal!) The table across us was able to be seated, order, receive their food, AND completed their meal by the time our food was brought out! By then we absolutely starving, had wiped out every single piece of bread from sheer hunger, & were on the verge of simply getting up and leaving. Not once during that 40 minute wait did our server -- or ANYONE -- come and acknowledge us or offer an apology or explanation! When our meal was served it was mediocre. My husband ordered one of the "specials," the butternut squash ravioli, for $21. There were literally six pieces of ravioli, & a tiny side of steamed vegetables. A full grown adult would need three times the size of that serving in order to be satisfied at dinner. I ordered the duck with pomegranate sauce for $31. The meat was disappointing. Both of our plates were room temperature, as if they had been sitting under heat lamps for five or 10 minutes (which they probably were, out of that 40 minute wait.) The meat was flattening in flavor -- I didn't even finish it because the texture grossed me out. We were very clear in expressing to our server, Naseem, that we were disappointed by the complete lack of service. Not once did he acknowledge me (most likely because I'm the woman in this situation), and only made eye contact with my husband & spoke directly to my husband. Naseem's apology seemed insincere, and he offered zero explanation for his complete abandonment of us while we waited for our food. He did tell the hostess to send us home with two free desserts of our choosing as an apology. Nevertheless, the deserts (chocolate layered cake and cheesecake), were also mediocre at best. For a $55 evening here and after being treated this way, we will never be coming back. read more

Mixed feelings about their food. It has been a while since I have been here but it does not seem to have changed its menu that much. The steak Diane was ok, overcooked for a "medium" but tasty nonetheless. The lamb tagine was very tasty until I bit into a piece of grizzle the size of a dice and it almost made me gag. A lot of wine choices, good cocktail choices too. The goat salad (warm chèvre over greens) was superb. Bread was served before the meal, good bread but the butter was so cold I wasn't able to get it ob tot the bread without tearing the bread. The service was absolutely impeccable. I think it is overpriced for what we got, at $37 for the overcooked steak and $27 for the lamb stew.... a total of $130 (2 glasses of wine, one cocktail but no desert of appetizer) is steep for a meal, leaving like "meh" at the end.... read more

A friend of mine recommended this place to me so I took my boyfriend for his birthday. DRINKS: I ordered the Pink Slip cocktail and he got a pineapple juice. I loved my drink (for someone who doesn't even like grapefruit!), and my boyfriend said his juice freshly squeezed! FOOD: I ordered the duck. It was so tender and flavorful, and the raspberry pinot sauce that came with it was perfect. The mashed potatoes and mixed veggies that came on the side were good, but standard. My boyfriend ordered the turmeric lamb. Same as me - he loved the flavor and tenderness of the lamb, and also thought his rice and veggies were good but not incredible. We thought the main part/focus of the entree was perfected, but the sides were sort of an afterthought (good! but we had similar sides, rice/potatoes, and veggies were exactly the same). Had an amazing experience dining at your establishment. With the holidays it was very hard to get a table for 5 adults, a toddler and an infant. We had called at first and you didn't have any available room but we had gotten a phone call back from Danny saying that they had moved things around and could take us. We were astounded that Danny had called us back. For a restaurant to go out of their way to call us back was unbelievably the kindest thing to do. The service and food was outstanding and amazing. I recently went to this restaurant with High Hopes, I went with my mother and father were both in their 70s three friends and myself. I walked in there were only 22 tops occupied and lots of tables available when I asked if we could be seated the maître d' said there was no openings I'd have to make a reservation. I left the bar my parents stayed and they seated them at the bar! The bartender was nice the food was pretty damn good I'll be at very expensive, as we sat at the bar I overheard at least three cancellations and the maître d' still insisted on having a sit at the bar! By the time we finished our meal we'd spend over $350 on seven people in the whole entire time they were at least 3 6 tops available!! The maître d' is probably the worst person working at any restaurant in Eugene Oregon and should be fired immediately. read more

Went here on the recommendation of a client, great food and service. However, parking sucks. We were told that several lots were open for parking after 5pm but there is no indication in those lots that we could park there. Spent a long time finding street parking - since all of us were from out of town, it wasn't easy given the one way streets and such. I know, it's petty but that takes away a star as far as I'm concerned. Once we got in to the place, it was very quaint, a diverse and eclectic menu with some very interesting specials. I opened for a Walla Walla onion ravioli with a chanterelle sauce that was fantastic, I started with the trio - dolmas, babaganoush , and hummus with pita bread, it was good but frankly nothing special either. Great wine list but limited in terms of wines by the glass, more craft beers however made other memebers of our party very happy. Other dishes at the table - lamb turmeric (taste was great but it looked more like lamp pesto) and the Hungarian mushroom goulash again very good. No one opted for dessert, so I offer no opinion. Highly disappointed. After hearing high praise about the place I was excited to try it. We had reservations and arrived on time. After being ignored and waiting a long while we were finally escorted to a window table. About 20 minutes later a man served us water and bread, walked away and ignored us completely. Quite a while later we were still being ignored and became frustrated when a single man was seated next to us and was treated like royalty. The waiter completely ignored us and no one else even looked at us. We decided to leave and weren't even spoken to by either the waiter or hi fellow employee who were leaning against the wall near the bar. No matter if the food is as wonderful as people say it is , the service and attitudes were revolting. I am glad we left. I will never return. Completely wasted an hour of our time. I'm out here for work and this popped up on Google as a nice place to eat..we parked up the street because the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant maybe fit 6 cars tops...Once entering we were greeted by the bartender but the host was not up front and we were told to wait.No problem, except several awkward minutes passed by and she still hadn't returned. The bartender appeared to go see where she was but we were still left standing there after awhile he told us they were slammed in 2nd dining room and for us to sit up front. I asked him for recommendations...everything was apparently "the best in town" so his sales pitch needs a little work lol...I ended up getting the Lamb Tagine (I think that's what it was called). Nassim and his colleagues paraded by our table many time, gazing at the table without acknowledging us. Would have felt much better should have Nassim apologized for the delay. The ribeye was beyond well done and burned. The baked potatoes were great, vegetables were saggy and over cooked.
