This is my second and final review for Cafe Strudel. My wife and I visited this restaurant before (before the pandemic) and did not have a good experience. In fact, we didn't eat there because we never had a server stop by our table. The owner replied to the review saying that he hoped we would give them a second chance. Fast forward to today. My wife and I have been trying different restaurants for Sunday brunch. We decided to try Cafe Strudel and arrived at 10:30 to a packed parking lot. We checked in with the hostess and were told there would be about a 40 minute wait. Since we were meeting friends, we decided to wait. After 30 minutes, we checked in and were told that we were 7th in line for a table. It seemed tables were turning over quickly. After another 20 minutes we checked again and were told were were 3rd in line. After roughly an hour wait, our party of 4 was seated. The hostess gave us menus and told us someone would be with us shortly. We sat and waited and no one came to our table. People who were seated after us were greeted, received drinks and even had their orders yet we still were not greeted. I told a hostess that no one had been by our table yet and they said they would send someone right away. After another few minutes, a server came to us to say a manager would be over because they knew we had been waiting a long time. We waited more time and no one came over. At this point, we made the decision to leave. In all, we waited an hour and a half. We will not be giving Cafe Strudel a third chance. read more

Wow! One of the best restaurants in town and only a 3.5? Food is great. All day breakfast. The service is good most of the time but the place gets very busy sometimes. Hot!! every time duck fat fries to die for. Great breakfast sandwich. Great bacon. Decent coffee(not Starbucks and a little on the weak side but decent). Fish and chips good. Good salads. Yummy burgers. On and on. The only thing that I can say disappointed me was when I showed up and asked for a table for a table one time after band camp and they said we had to sit at the bar or wait 20-30 minutes. I saw two open table but was told they were reserved for other parties. But you don't take reservations?Anyways we sat at the bar and neither table was used while we were there. Hmmm??? read more

After waiting for a hour and a half in the heat with the staff reaffirming it would only be another 20 mins we were told they were short staffed and would not be able to serve us due to the back up of orders they already had. They could've told us that at any point during the 1 1/2 hr we waited. Bad business! Bad management and unfriendly customer service/hostess. I will not be back. read more

While the food and service at the bar was fabulous, I did have an issue with the Manager on duty. It was my first time visiting this location, after I put our name on the this (Sunday July 29th in the morning 10am) I asked if i could order a coffee while I waited 20-30 min for a table. The Host immediately responded with sure absolutely, who i would assume was the Manager guy, said "No, We don't do that it's against policy." And scolded the host in front of us. We got the lucky seat at the bar and canceled our name on the wait list. To which I saw other ladies waiting for a table drinking coffee... I wonder why it's ok for some but not for all. After our meal we were given a half awkward apology, it was super uncomfortable. read more

The food is very fresh and tasty. The smoked salmon bagel would be perfect if SC had decent bagels. They don't. Lol. They make excellent spicy Bloody Mary's but the ambiance is the reason I gave it 4 stars. It's noisy, crowded and not the place to have a conversation as you can't hear anyone. The servers are hit or miss. Some good, some not so good. I would go again as the food is worth it but I'd have to be in the mood to put up with the atmosphere. Maybe take out is the way to go here. Great location in Lexington. This is my first time visiting this location however I've been to the west Columbia location many times. The food is equally as good as Columbia, their original location. However the one added benefit is that there is not a wait at this location. We were able to walk in immediately and grab a table. The mimosas the coffee and the food were outstanding. I ordered the beyond burger with a side of seasoned veggies for a total of $15. The burger was undercooked and they forgot to add the sauces I asked for like ketchup and mustard. The veggies were tasty but just a small portion. Overall it wasn't horrible but I just don't think it's worth the price tag. read more

Not a fan at all. My husband and I ordered our food to go. We ordered a medium well steak and got a medium RAW steak it was absolutely horrible and flavorless. Not to mention the blood from the steak absorbed into my eggs I refused to eat them. The grits were about the only best thing I got for my meal. My husband on the other hand had pancakes eggs and bacon. His comment was "I could have made this at home and saved money". Either way we can take this off our bucket list. read more

This cafe has never given me a bad experience. I've been multiple times and still love it! The food is absolutely delicious and would recommend it to anyone. It's my all time favorite breakfast/brunch place and will continue to eat here ! Staff is super kind and efficient. Likewise, the manager was attendant to every table and extremely nice. read more

I've tried this place so many times, and it just can't match the location on State St. Can't you do something about that? The food isn't the same, the drinks aren't the same. Cute atmosphere and great mimosas, but the food is bland and not seasoned. The menu descriptions will have you super excited thinking you will are going to have an amazing meal. Each dish leaves so much more to be desired. Just some basic salt and pepper would be an improvement. Waitstaff is excellent, but the food is so disappointing. One experience is enough. I don't see all the hype or the long lines, but then again I do prefer seasoned food, others may fancy bland. read more

We came for dinner last night and were pleasantly surprised. Cafe strudel has a nice casual atmosphere, courteous wait staff, and delicious food. We had fried green tomatoes, duck grilled cheese, grilled chicken sandwich and duck fat fries. Everything was delicious and I'll be sure to stop by next time I'm in town. read more

this location is a lot more intimate and family friendly in comparison to West Columbia. Food is just as great. Lines just as long, which is a good thing, in my opinion! read more

I have been eating at Cafe Strudel since they were in their original building on State Street. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Columbia. While the food in the Lexington location is delicious just like the West Columbia location the fact that it is 93 degrees outside and 81 on the inside makes eating food miserable. We have come to the Lexington location half a dozen times since they opened and every time it has been uncomfortably hot inside. It is unacceptable. My family used to frequent the same building when it was a different restaurant and it was never this hot. In fact if I remember correctly I would always bring a sweater. We love this restaurant so much and we would understand if this was a one time thing but we are in South Carolina and AC is a MUST. read more

The food is always excellent. The service was good but a few suggestions... when customers say they want to share, please bring an extra plate. Also, dont ask a 95 year old woman with a cane to get her own coffee. We have never had a bad meal here so we will come back There is one HUGE problem thougg. Well, my husband and I really tried to like this place...this is our third visit. Cute restaurant...First time we went in the middle of the week. The service was decent. The second time we went, the service was awful. There was a 45-60 minute wait time and approximately 10 tables open. We just left. This third time, we waited 30 minutes which is fine...waited 40 minutes for the food. Food was mediocre at best. Price of food for quality and amount served is not worth the $$. Service was subpar. I recommend going to Creek Side Grille. It is typically our go to place but we were in search of other options. read more

Unfortunately, good food isn't everything. Watch out - the service will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. I have eaten twice at the Lexington location of Cafe Strudel and both times were fabulous. Excellent service, amazing food, and an awesome vibe. However, today I came to pick up takeout, and all my previous positive experiences were just about ruined. The company I work for called in takeout at 10:40 and I arrived at the restaurant at 10:49 to pick it up (I knew I would have to wait a little bit - no big deal). I had a deadline of 11:20 to deliver the food, but that was plenty of time considering the small size of the order. I asked 3 servers about the order when I walked in, and no one even knew about my order. At 11am a manager came out and apologized to me, telling me that the order could not be inputted into their system until 11am because it was a lunch order. I was unsettled by this, because I was afraid that my food wouldn't be ready in time, but the manger told me it would be ready in about 10 minutes. I waited. And waited. I asked around for updates and was repeatedly told things like, "I'm not sure but I'll check" or "it's almost ready". At 11:20 the manager came out with the food and I told him I was upset that I sat in the restaurant for 30 minutes waiting for the food. He then proceeded to defend himself, saying, "well considering that we couldn't put the order in until 11am and other customers were ordering, we did a pretty good job." I told him that it sounded like he was making excuses and that I would have liked an apology. He then proceeded to continue to defend himself and I promptly left. I am disappointed because as a customer, all I want is to feel valuable and heard. I want to know the restaurant cares about me. Unfortunately today, I was communicated that I wasn't important and that my order wasn't a priority. I plan to not eat here again and will un-recommend it to anyone who's asks about it. read more

I'm already looking forward to returning after a very good first visit. Precious said the West Columbia site was very good, and Lexington is now starting to expand beyond fast food emporium status, so I had positive feelings about our visit. Looks like an exceptional breakfast menu but we were more in the lunch menu mode. Lunch menu also looks deserving of multiple return visits. I was about to order a Philly cheesesteak when the "Moby Dick" aka fish and chips caught my eye. Our very friendly waitress was very enthusiastic about them so I chose it. Outstanding large piece of battered cod was accompanied by their duck fat fries which were also excellent. Homemade tarter sauce was very good as was the house garlic aioli, though fair warning to non-garlic lovers this is strong stuff. If I had one drawback it was they serve Hunts ketchup. I'm a ketchup super freak and think a little less of you if you eat or serve anything other than Heinz. That's a personal predilection, so I do not let it reflect my outstanding first impression. read more

I ate breakfast there on March 12, 2022. The food was the worst I've ever had. We hade the avocado toast sandwich, the avocado was the color grayish brown. It definitely was not freshly made...it looked like baby poo. When avocado looks like this means it's old and had been in the fridge for a couple days. I don't care what it was mixed with freshly made would still be green. Plating was a mess, it was just tossed on the plate. The other meal was the egg sandwich....this to was a disaster. The food tasted horrible, we will never come back. Eggs upgrill is so much better at leat their meals come with potatoes. A rating of 1 star isn't even deserved for this place zero fits this establishment. read more

From the staff, who's conversations were inappropriate, the the chefs inability to cook a basic chicken breast. The food just isn't satisfying in general. I was really looking forward to dining at this location today. I am a huge fan of the cafe streudel in west Columbia, however everyone at our table agreed we would not be returning to this location. The biggest complaint? The flies. They are everywhere because they have the door over the bar opened and there are not enough fans inside the restaurant to keep them out. I could not enjoy my meal because I had to keep watching for flies and fanning them away. I could not help but think, "if there are flies out here, are there flies in the kitchen?" I brought most of my meal home because I couldn't eat it. It's also very hot in the restaurant because, again the door over the bar is open. It's actually cooler outside than inside because they have fans out there. Another thing our table agreed upon is that the food was under seasoned- and I am not someone who uses or likes a lot of salt. There are foods like eggs and potatoes, and gravy that need salt to accentuate the flavor. Lastly, the hardwood floors were very sticky. My feet were sticking to them. Made it seem like they were not clean. I hope this location makes some key decisions that improve the overall experience at this restaurant: 1. In the summer close the door over the bar. This will eliminate the large amount of flies that are inside and will also make it cooler inside. 2. Add a little more salt to your food. 3. Increase your number of servers, as ours looked overwhelmed and overworked. They were doing the best they could in the situation they were in. 4. Clean the floor- it's sticky and makes one think the restaurant is not clean. read more

Breakfast bowl was amazing! Love the Manmosa and Mimosas! There are several mimosas to choose from; OJ, Peach Mango, and Pomegranate. We were sat right away, no long wait even though it was quiet busy since there were a lot of families with graduates. It's a little loud, but not too bad. There's lots of parking, two entrances to each parking area. Great staff! read more

I have been here twice in the past 6 months. First experience was average. Second experience ensured that I will not be returning or sending anyone else there. From check in until receiving my check it was 2.5 hrs for pancakes and bacon. Asked for additional syrup and never received it. Manager was rude and took out frustrations on our group. Thought this was the same as Columbia. I typically get a half order of hangover hash browns in Columbia and it's plenty. A half order in Lexington is smaller than a side order of hash browns, comically small. Friend got a full order and it's about the size of a half order in Columbia. read more

We love the West Columbia location, we've gone there a lot over the years, so wanted to give the Lexington location a try, but it was a complete let down. The server didn't know the menu, the cooks left the sauce off the turkey sandwich. The fish sandwich had a huge uncooked dough ball on it. The fry's were the only thing worth eating. read more

The parking at the Lexington location for Café Strudel is extremely confusing. In fact, I'm not quite sure how it was approved by the Town's zoning board. As far as the restaurant itself, we were unable to judge for ourselves because the quoted wait time of 15 minutes came and went with no further communication from the staff. In fact, by the time we left well after our wait time expired, there was still one party ahead of us. Also, there are 24 entrances to the building but only one correct one. And you have to walk all the way around the building to find that one correct entrance. So, this may be the best restaurant of all time, but you have to really want it to be successful. I love the delicious food here!!! My first meal was the Chicken Philly Cheesesteak with the Duck Fat Fries and green onion aioli!. I have become addicted to this meal!!!
