This is a cool spot to come and grab brunch. It's not as clean as it use to be and I may not come back because of that, however our waiter was very friendly and professional but over worked due to the shortage of wait staff. The cinnamon pancakes were delicious as always, the grits were not hot but the flavoring was spot on and unfortunately the bacon was tough. The bathrooms need to be cleaned, the restaurant needs a deep clean to the floors and tables, there were flies attacking us due to the front door being slightly broken and not closing completely. The latest art on the walls were very provocative and inappropriate especially if you're bringing your kids here. Now if they are going for a different grown up vibe maybe they should list that somewhere on the website. read more

This was an interesting place. When we arrived we were asked to put our name down and that they would text us. We walked over to the antique shop next door and soon after we were there we got the text so we came back. so point being don't go too far. I was very surprised how many people were seated inside when no one really was seated outside. During the pandemic outside seating for us was a must, therefore it worked out really great. The coffee was OK. We did order 2 espresso. One was watered down, must be a misunderstanding, as the other one was really good. I had the salmon salad with goat cheese, it was very fresh and the dressing was very tasty. I also love that you could order one pancake or 1 French toast instead of ordering as stack. The outside seating seemed perminent well covered with the roof and I highly recommend going to this rash or and during the pandemic. They did have hands sanitize their and the bathrooms were pretty clean. However, I felt that too many people were seated too close to each other inside. Tables were not 6 feet part. First time here! Our waitress, Kate was very personable and friendly! I ordered the Hangover Hashbrowns with a side of grits and a biscuit. The hashbrowns really good. They were cooked golden with cheese, tomatoes,onions, banana peppers and topped with an egg. I chose a fried egg. The biscuit was okay...a little hard. The grits was good once I added butter, salt and pepper. I wanted an iced coffee and the waitress suggested the Sticky Bun latte. It was so good, I ordered one to go! It was perfect! Cafe Strudel never disappoints and is worth the wait on the weekends. The self serve coffee bar is very cute. Gambas grits with the perfectly cooked shrimp and the combination of sweet and spicy sauce is our favorite entree. When available, the brisket hash, brisket biscuit and smokehouse omelette are also great. Even the simple breakfast biscuit sandwich is tasty. This used to be my favorite place, but it has gone WAAAAAAAY downhill. I was with three people, and all of our items were poorly cooked. All three poached eggs were served hard boiled. The scrambled eggs were chopped up fried eggs. The crabcakes tasted like they made them last week. The salmon was extra extra extra well done, same with the steak and eggs. The avocado was waterlogged. It's like they cut it several days ago and stored it in water. I can overlook one or two poorly made items, but our entire table had bad meals. Love a good server. He deserves a raise! Restaurant manager stopped by, ask if we needed anything. Son brought up the wobbly table and husband mentioned the sun blazing in the window. Manager told us a new table is on order already and the glass is getting stained but he was very open to hearing our "complaints" and very friendly. As THE quintessential brunch restaurant nothing really stood out. If you google "Top Brunch in Columbia" or rather when I did. EVERY single list includes this restaurant. No matter how new or old. I ordered the two-egg breakfast. This should have been batting practice, right over the plate. Any decent brunch place should be able to kill this one and it fell flat to me. Nothing was TERRIBLE but nothing was above average. We travel for French toast. I don't remember it being standout at all. Maybe we will revisit after making the Cola brunch rounds. read more

One of our favorite breakfast/brunch spots. The food is good, but their drink selection is what keeps me coming back. Today I went with the peach mango mimosa, it was delish. Hubby got pancakes and I got French toast and it did not disappoint. It's a smaller spot, so if you go on a Saturday expect to wait for 15-30 minutes. They have a bar area as well. Visited 9th January 2021 COVID restrictions were in full force. Before the meal my wife went to toilet and I waited by the cash register for her. A lady immediately appeared and said I could not wait there because of COVID. Well there was no one near me at all as I was out of the way and this lady wasn't even wearing a mask. Eventually we were seated and I observed this lady that asked me to move, serving customers and talking to waiting staff not wearing a mask at all. This was such a cute restaurant and I loved their outdoor seating. It was pretty popular for a Friday morning so my party of 3 had to wait about 25 minutes, not terrible, before being seated. We were seated on their outdoor patio space which was a nice touch especially since it was covered from the hot SC sun. All of the food was delicious and was brought out relatively quickly, extra bonus! There's plenty of parking around and I'd recommend this spot to anyone visiting the area ! read more

I got the strawberry cinnamon pancakes with eggs and bacon, my friend got the Hawaiian french toast, and my other friend got steak and eggs. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it just tasted...average. The duck fries and aioli were great, but I feel like ao could've gotten everything else at an iHop. The pancakes were good, eggs were okay, bacon was okay. My friend was excited for his Hawaiian french toast, but it just tasted like sweeter french toast. The steak didn't have much flavor. I had bookmarked this place even before moving to Columbia. We had family and friends visiting and decided to give it a try. Oh how I wish I had gone there before bringing others to try it. So disappointed. I'm not sure why it was so busy or what people like about the food. There were 12 of us including kids and everyone complained about their food. One even said the smoked salmon bagel looked like it would send you to the bathroom later. My son who usually devours a bagel couldn't even finish his. The only thing one of us liked was the grits. I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich and I was expecting something more flavorful, maybe with a spread on the bread, some seasoning maybe? It was just a very small croissant that was burned, with eggs, two pieces of bacon, and a slice of cheese. So dry and flavorless. I only finished it because we had been waiting an hour.... Not only was the food bad, the service as we walked in was bad too. So much attitude from the two girls there. Our waitress was the sweetest, though! We were there for breakfast, so fell into the brunch category. it was hard to decide just what to have. Everything has some form of creative twist. Very cleaver. French toast of Hawaiian sweet bread, cinnamon pancakes, a number of quesadillas, four-egg omelets, bagels and other breads. But we recommend that you go for some of their combos: Hangover Hashbrowns ($6.00+) hashbrowns with onions, banana peppers, tomatoes, cheddar cheese and 2 eggs your way. Low Country Hashbrowns ($14): a bed of hashbrowns topped with fried green tomatoes, shrimp and a rich creamy sauce. This was my choice and since it was breakfast, had an over medium egg on it. Scrumptious it was. Got to experience to understand just how delicious it was. Wife had a cinnamon pancake ($2.50) and hash browns ($4) a la carte. She was happy. We will be back, for any meal. When we came in, it was packed. We were offered seating at the bar and then we got a table. We sat down and then our waitress came. I ordered the duck fat fries and my friend ordered the shrimp and grits. Those duck fat fries with that green onion aioli is so good! Sheesh! Have came here in the past and it was very good. Recently, the food has gone down in quality as well as the service. I went to the restaurant with a button down and some slacks and was treated nicely. It was pretty busy. I went again with gym shorts and a t-shirt. It was not busy at this time. The service was not the same. Then menu is not updated. They have hash on the menu but when we asked for it, the waiter said they do not have that. After trying to get waitstaff attention to inquire about a dish I was ignored. Overall, the cafe strudel in west Columbia is not as approachable as the one in Lexington. read more

I had the most wonderful morning trying out this breakfast place over the weekend. The place gave off a pleasurable vibe because of the art scattered throughout the place. The plants are also a very nice touch for making the place feel fresh. It took about 10 minutes for us to get our order in and about another 30 minutes for the food to come out. I opted for the "Sunrise Burrito" with extra sausage and I loved it. The presentation of the food was very attractive. The eggs were cooked to perfection but did not overwhelm the burrito. There was an even mix of the other ingredients while they also tasted fresh. The density of the burrito filled me up well and was well worth the price. Got a chance to try this place out and loved it! Went for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. There was a 30 Minute wait which wasn't too bad, the place was pretty crowded for a Sunday but I loved the nice home filled atmosphere of the place and very friendly staff.
