Cafe-Thirty-A is our fav fine dining experience along 30A. This particular trip was for my birthday, so we celebrated here with birthday dinner and dessert. The service, food, and atmosphere are unmatched. We have been coming here for years now and have yet to have a bad experience or a bad meal. I had the iceberg wedge salad to start. For the main course, we both had the filet with potatoes and asparagus. For dessert we chose the berry cobbler with a scoop of ice cream. Everything was absolutely delicious! This restaurant is so overrated. Service was 'meh' and food was okay. I usually wouldn't even do a review, I just wouldn't go back. BUT- the pages and sites encouraging folks to try this place is wildly surprising. We're foodies and this place had 'old money' vibes with subpar food. I asked for garlic butter on my filet and was surprised when they threw two slabs of shaved butter on top. Filet was tender but not seasoned well. Very disappointing. Wow,definitely consistent good food for many years! We have been patrons of Cafe Thirty-A since 1996 and have NEVER been disappointed. Three in our party had scallops and one had the Cajun shrimp and grits. The scallops were large & with a hint of smoke,they melted in your mouth! The risotto was amazing as well with small bites of asparagus, onions, carrots and red pepper mixed in. Creamy deliciousness. Cajun grits were phenomenal as well. We returned (and traveled 5 hours away) for our anniversary with friends and all of us were so disappointed. It used to be such a pleasant experience, the restaurant and host used to make us feel so special. The drinks weren't worthy, in fact, the old fashion was so terrible, we sent it back. The entrees were still fantastic but the service lacked. We paid the corkage fee, yet the waiter never once poured our wines, and just basically took our orders and brought our food. The restaurant used to serve a very nice complementary anniversary dessert, however, now all they do is add a candle to the dessert you order. The host or manager was not available to convey our issues with. It's sad when you expect the same service and it just isn't the same. read more

It is loud inside with so many people. It's great for a special occasion and for a group that has different desires for dinner. They pretty much have something for everyone. We had the mussels and they were the best we've ever had. You can't go wrong here - atmosphere is high class but you don't have to dress up. Valet parking $5 but so worth it. My mom and I came for an early dinner around 5:15 on Labor Day Monday. We were immediately impressed with the service- they are a well oiled machine. This place has a fully stocked bar- dream your cocktail and they will make it. We opted for the PEI muscles, the lobster in paradise and the grouper. Muscles are a MUST- we took the juice home to dip in bread as a midnight snack. That is how good it is. I really enjoyed the lobster in paradise but its definitely a heavy & large dish. I took plenty home. The grouper came with a risotto that was delish- the grouper itself was a little dry but i wouldn't normally order grouper so perhaps it's just me. The atmosphere was also nicer than the pictures depict on here, so we were pleasantly surprised by that. I had the lobster over truffle Mac n cheese. Literally every detail of this experience was perfect! I took my mom here for a surprise retirement dinner, and I truly couldn't have found a better spot. From the above and beyond staff opening the door for us as we entered, to the incredibly kind reception desk staff, to our exceptional waitress with the quickest, best service (I don't remember her name - I'm so sorry!!!), to the absolutely delicious food AND drinks, nothing was overlooked. And while the experience felt so special, it was still such a comfortable and nice atmosphere - not at all "uppity" (like a lot of restaurants down here are:). This is my favorite restaurant on 30A. It is such a gem. I have been twice now and will be back every time I come into town. Both times our entire party was 100% thrilled and happy with everything. We wore dresses, shorts, skirts, jeans, sandals and they were all appropriate. It's got a dressy casual vibe to it. White tablecloths and super attentive waiters but laid back as well. The wine selection is great and surprisingly affordable for the area. We tried a large variety of dishes and desserts and they were all five star in our opinion. The salads are large and could easily be shared. They bring bread and olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start. The she crab soup was heavenly. It was rich and flavorful and really good to dip your bread in. The scallops with wild mushroom risotto was amazing! My husband said he thinks it's one of the best meals he has ever had and that's a big deal because we are foodies with high expectations. The crab cakes are almost completely crab and the sauce and mashed potatoes with them are divine. My mom got the snapper with relish dish and loved it. Another friend had the filet and said it was perfectly cooked. Another got the seared tuna and was thrilled. Fun fact they make their wasabi in house and it is hot. Now the desserts are a can't miss!! We got a bunch and shared and had a really hard time picking a favorite. We tried the crème brûlée, chocolate tart, biscoff mousse, bread pudding and cold brew martini. I have already looked into how to recreate the martini because it is the perfect mixture of an espresso and chocolate martini to me. There is no bitterness but not an overwhelming sweetness either. The first time we came the waiters were really attentive and interactive. This last time there were a few minor complaints we had. One was several ordered diet cokes to drink and had to ask for refills each time. One time the waitress took away the empty Diet Coke cup and didn't ask if she wanted another and just never acknowledged it until my friend asked for another. My mother also had to directly ask for a refill. It didn't ruin our experience nor will it prevent me from coming back but I just thought it was kind of odd. Our waitress was not overtly rude but not very helpful or attentive either. Also not a major issue but odd. Especially when our waiters the first time were so attentive and interactive. Bottom line here-Don't hesitate, just make the reservation and you will not regret it. read more

Review of second visit: We had requested to be seated in the main dining room, instead we were seated in the back of a dark side porch. When my husband asked if we could be seated in the main room, the hostess said others had requested the main dining room. My husband politely told her that we had also and she said she was sorry but there were no other tables when there clearly was another table set for five in the main dining room. She then rolled her eyes and walked awa This casual restaurant is very busy on a Sunday night and quite loud. We were seated in what we deemed, "the overflow room" overlooking the valet. Request to be seated in the main dining area as the atmosphere in the overflow room is much what an office holiday party venue feels like - loud and impersonal with the prerequisite obnoxious people one would expect and avoid. Our waitress was, well, unconventional. She would stand three feet from the end of the table and say something indiscernible and when asked what she said, she would cup her hands around her mouth and yell the question. Quite off putting and completely inappropriate. She offered menu suggestions that were helpful, but her initial impression set the feel for the rest of the evening. The she crab soup is a crab bisque and was warm but not remarkable. The arugula salad has a wonderful flavor, but can be overwhelming with garlic and too acidic. The quail with grits was remarkable, however. The quail had a wonderful flavor and grits are very creamy. Entree wise, if you're getting crab cakes, only get the appetizer size with Joe's mustard. The entree size comes with two crab cakes and they are good, but not great. The butter sauce that is served with the entree is bland. The potatoes were creamy and delicious and the green beans crisp and seasoned wonderfully. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly. It was tender and the Worcestershire sauce was fantastic. As far as mixed drinks, the pina colada is fantastic - ask for extra cherries. The Bloody Mary is good. read more

Grouper - Small portion but so very very delicious....beautifully presented and perfect. I loved it. Wedge salad - A perfect blend of wedge and ingredients. We had perhaps the rudest waiter that no matter how good the food was (and it was good not great) it wouldn't make up for how we were treated. This is our favorite dinner restaurant here! The service is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. We started with the calamari and it was delicious. Then we ordered 4 entrees because we put our order in before 5:15 so we got half off of 2 meals. The crab cake entree and steak special were my favorites this time. The crab cakes are perfect and paired well with the green beans and mashed potatoes. The steak special was a 20 oz bone in with a Demi glaze and it was delicious as well. It comes with potatoes and brussel sprouts which were perfect. Put other two meals were pork chops and the lobster in paradise. Those were good as well, just not as special as the first two I described. We got the crème brûlée, bread pudding and key lime cheesecake for dessert. All of them were fantastic! The bread pudding is usually my favorite but we always share because they're all incredible. We also got the cold brew martini which replaced their espresso martini. The beef carpaccio is one of the best I have had for an app. The horseradish cream is excellent and has just the right amount of heat and is balanced very well with the capers, Parmesan, and truffle. The fried oyster salad is really good and the bacon vinaigrette is great. Their yellowfin tuna is one of my favorite tuna dishes I have had anywhere. Had it several times and each time the tuna is cooked perfectly and I've never had a bad piece of tuna at 30-A. The truffle ricotta raviolo was very good and highly recommend. This place came highly recommended and we saved it for our "fancy dinner" night. We called to make a reservation earlier in the day without problem, but online you may have to give your card info to book a reservation. The parking area is small and fills quickly, so everyone basically uses the valet. Inside, it is bright and welcoming. I deeply regret not getting a picture of our roasted quail appetizer. It was delicious and sat on top of their famous grits, which you can take home a recipe of. Spoiler alert: a lot of butter and heavy cream! But oh so delicious! I wishes there were a few more entree options on the menu, but I ultimately ordered the lobster over truffle Mac. Heavy but amazing. The Mac n cheese was fragrant and cheesy.
