Came here for the seafood bendict, and actually tried something totally different. All of the girls that helped us out were friendly, the food tasted great, and the prices were fair. I'm only dropping a star because my tri-tip was way overcooked.

This breakfast/ lunch spot has a menu for everyone. We chose to sit outside and it was an absolute beautiful day and the perfect amount of shade. The staff were great and the food was amazing. If you have ever had Tri-tip from Cardiff you will be over the moon with the choices they have made with it. My boyfriend chose the Crack and Eggs while I chose the Crack Fries ( both made with the Tri-tip) The fresh flavors of the vegetables, jalapeño aioli and crispy fries with the tri-tip were exceptional. If you're in Carlsbad, check this place out!

Really enjoyed this place! Dog friendly and kid friendly! Not ideal for big parties tho. My family loved all their food including our puppy. My husband got the seafood Benedict and that was super flavorful, I got the crack burrito and added shrimp, it had a bit too much potato and for a $25 burrito bc I did add shrimp I wish it had more protein that potatoes. The kids got their kids menu pancake and meat option and French toast and meat option. They both liked it and my dog had the chicken paw fingers lol it was so cute even had a free puppicino! I did like the overall vibe and place, a lot of outdoor seating and the service was nice, u don't really have a server, you stand in line until u order then u find a table and they just bring your food to you. Everyone was nice. I'd go back. Parking is on the street, I thought it would be hard to find parking but it wasn't for a Sunday brunch!

2nd time here in awhile. Definitely has gotten busier than it was years ago when I visited. There is usually a line out the door, but it goes by pretty quickly since they take your orders quickly. The line is to place your orders and pay for your food. Then they give you a table number to take to your table. They have indoor and outdoor seating. You pretty much seat yourself. We sat inside, and there were plenty of tables open. More tables were occupied for outdoor seating. We needed a high chair, and no staff member asked if we needed one despite seeing the baby. I guess you get your own high chair they have stacked against the wall? Well, at least we just grabbed it and no one said anything. The food didn't take long to get served. Their machine for their drip coffee and Americano was out of order, so unavailable today. But the have cold brew or lattes available. I ordered the iced matcha with oat milk substitute, and has honey in it as the sweetener. It was REALLY diluted... Not good at all. The seafood benedict was OK, but the paprika powder or something just was a bit much today. The balance of the flavors were a bit off today. But everything else was cooked just fine (for the benedict). The side of potatoes... SALTY. The hash brown wasn't though- was cooked just right. The Crack Breakfast Burrito was overall good, but the tri tip was SALTY. It was cookes fine, just was really salty today. The tri tip for the Crack N' Eggs was ordered as medium rare, but served as medium well. Not sure if this is something that happens often, but if so, probably should order med rare and expect med well. Things picked up pretty quickly as the breakfast hour passed 10am. Kind of a tight space inside, but they are kid friendly as most families brought kids to dine. Parking is available along the streets surrounding the restaurant, but when things get busy, may have to park a bit farther and walk over. Service was decent.

What a lovely spot to add to your list, whether just driving through or in town for a few days, you have to make it over to this spot. This place gets packed but don't let that scare you off from how quick and efficient the food comes out and how well this place works. The workers are all so sweet and friendly and the fact that they go above and beyond for their furry friends is even sweeter. The food for starters since I'm Gluten Free, is a huge hit. From GF pancakes to bread options and sometimes pastries, It's a hit for me everytime. The coffees and the occasional mimosa are also a great compliment for the food. And if you're lucky enough to get your hands on a cinnamon roll, don't hesitate. Cafe Topes is my go to place at the moment!!

I wish I could up my rating because I really do like this place. Unfortunately, the day we came we had a series of misfortunes. My friend loves cinnamon rolls and they are known for theirs, so I thought she'd enjoy it. I had tried one years ago and remembered liking it. We arrived and ordered a cinnamon roll and 2 drip coffees. The girl at the counter asked if we wanted cream & sugar. My friend said she did not want cream, just plain milk because she does not like the thickness of cream. She gave us our coffee, number, one napkin and silverware (forks & knives) and we sat. After a while she brought my friend oat milk. I thought I'd missed that my friend had ordered oat milk (I ended up using it), but after the girl walked away, my friend said she had not. Plus, she didn't bring sugar or spoons and we had to ask for another napkin. The coffee was lukewarm (before adding any cold oat milk) so my friend went in to see if we could get hot coffee. The girl said they would have to brew more. She brought us the cinnamon roll which was huge, warm and flavorful, but $8.50 for a cinnamon roll seems a bit high. Eventually, she brought out our coffees and milk for my friend and they were warmer, but far from hot. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they were having an off day, but it was definitely frustrating. Since both of my issues have been with the coffee I think I will just stick to food if I return.

Cafe Topes in Carlsbad serves some seriously delicious food, but the overall environment and service could use some tuning. Heads up: you wait in a line to order at the counter, get a number, then seat yourself and wait for food and drinks. If you're expecting table service, this isn't that type of spot. The line was long and moved slowly, though clearly they're not short on customers. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside, which is nice. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito with chorizo and swapped the chips for well-done hashbrowns for an extra charge--great choice, and they nailed it. My partner ordered the Soy Chorizo Scramble, but it came with seasoned potatoes instead of hashbrowns. They fixed it fairly quickly, but the food runner removed our table number while taking the plate back. So when a different runner brought out the corrected dish, she wandered around inside and outside trying to figure out who it belonged to. Just a small example of how the system could be more organized. Drinks were a mixed bag: the iced vanilla latte was average, and the Rumway was so strong my partner could barely taste the pineapple. All that said, the food itself was outstanding. If they tightened up the ordering process and service flow, this place would easily be a top-tier breakfast stop.

Cafe Topes is my favorite spot for brunch. It has this beach, relaxing and pleasant vibes especially in a sunny day. The line was long but it moved very fast. We ordered: - The salad 5/5 It had mixed green, green apple, candied walnuts, strawberries, and blue cheese - Fish Tacos 4.5 / 5 I chose grilled fish. It was topped with pico de gallo, spicy aoli, and cabbage.It was very tasty. - Fish and chips 5/5 Beer buttered fish was so good and it came with a choice of salad or French fries. The amount was very reasonable. - Crab scramble with biscuit 5/5 The crab scramble was very savory and the biscuit was very buttery For drinks we got : - 2 Hawaiian express 5/5 - Hot chocolate with whipped cream 5/5 The service was fast. The staff were very friendly and energetic. It is a great spot for breakfast, brunch or to grab some refreshing drinks.

Came to kickoff the new year with my sister! We finished a busy morning at the movies and then did a little shopping. We came very hungry! And this place did not disappoint. They have dining inside and outside. I ordered a burrito and my sister ordered yogurt with fruit and both were absolutely delicious! You can choose what kind of meat or sides that you want with the burrito. Side options are potatoes, chips, or fruit Meats for the burrito are ham, chorizo, sausage, for bacon I got the side of chips and it comes with salsa. Anything additional like avocado is an extra charge. The hibiscus lemonade was absolutely delicious. Very refreshing. We came during the holiday weekend so it was busy a lot of children. Service was great! Our server was checking up on us very frequently. She made sure our glasses of water were filled. Great location in Carlsbad. Beach is a walk-in distance along with many small stores. I give this spot a 10/10 Thank you so much for your service, and food! We will be seeing you in the future

Cafe Topes in Carlsbad is an absolute brunch gem. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, lively, and welcoming--perfect for a relaxed brunch with friends or family. The menu is creative and packed with delicious options, and everything we ordered was amazing. One of the standout features was their creative mimosa selection. It's such a fun twist on the classic brunch drink and makes the whole experience feel a little more special. Between the great vibe, attentive service, and incredible food, brunch at Cafe Topes was a total win. If you're in Carlsbad and looking for a spot with fantastic brunch and a great atmosphere, this place should definitely be on your list.

Haven't been here in years and suddenly got the urge to try it again. I got the crack Benedict which was pretty good, although it came out luke warm. We also got the watermelon lemonade and the pins colada refresher. Those were really tasty. My husband got the country fried steak and it came out super burnt and dry. He kept cutting into it hoping the beef inside would show up, but it was paper thin and just so crunchy. Would not recommend.

My favorite breakfast spot in North County. Got the chorizo Benedict and their chorizo is so authentic and fresh! Pro tip: get the potatoes extra crispy-- it is sooo good! Will def be coming back for more! :)

Love the unique menu items at Cafe Tropes that includes Cardiff Crack eggs Benedict and signature coffee/matcha drinks. Gluten free bread is available for the sandwiches and scrambles. All the pancakes except the protein pancake can be modified GF. The texture of the GF pancake was light and fluffy but the ricotta was lacking the lemon flavor and overall was a bit bland. My husband enjoyed the bananas foster French toast which definitely didn't require syrup from the sweet toppings. The line took us about 25 minutes to get through on a Sunday morning and a majority of the seating is for smaller groups of 2-4 outdoors on the patio.

I have been driving past this place about once per month for a few years. We decided to come for breakfast on a Sunday morning, and it was terrific! I follow a #keto-friendly diet, and they have some great and unusual options. Try the rubbed pork belly with eggs, or the Cardiff Crack and eggs.... There is almost always a line, so plan accordingly. You won't be disappointed. read more

This restaurant is hands down the most delicious and welcoming place in the village. Family owned by local Home grown San Diegans. The tri tip tacos are some of the best I've ever had with the Cardiff Crack tri tip. Everything on the menu is fantastic. read more

This has good coffee and homemade pastries. We aren't from the area and tried to find a great breakfast place and we did! The menu was so good it was hard to make a selection. The place was soo good when I was back in the area I came again with my wife. I highly recommend this place. Its casual but good! read more

Food is delish. Ambiance is GREAT. There is always a line out the door and down the sidewalk because it's so good. I realize it's not their fault, but sometimes the line barely moves forward which I wish they could be more aware of. If it wasn't for that, this place would get 5 stars. read more

The food is great, however we wanted order a Mexican order at 2:01 PM. But they refused to make my drink because they had turned off the espresso machine. Because they close the kitchen at 2:00 PM. Plain laziness they missed out on 3 orders. read more

The staff at Cafe Topes is generally friendly. You order your food at the cash register. Sometimes the wait to order and pay is short and sometimes not so much. They seem to be short on servers. I did receive my coffee in a timely manner, however it was barely warm at best. Today my food was cold by the time it came to my table. The server was busy trying to take care of multiple tables and had forgotten to bring my utensils. After bringing my utensils and napkin, my food was now colder than before. To get a second cup of coffee is almost an act of congress. The request is received with "right away" pleasantly enough, but the coffee getting there, if remembered, takes much longer than normal. I have eaten there before with a little better results but generally the service and food are average at best. read more

This is a great little breakfast spot with nice patio seating. Wait in line to order and seat yourself. Pretty extensive menu. I really enjoyed the lavender mocha and my veggie scramble was good. I would try another dish next time and those cinnamon rolls did look wicked. read more

Best breakfast spot in the Village, only bummer is everyone knows about it now :). You really can't go wrong with anything you order there AND they have great coffee. I drink my coffee black so I know its not ofter you can get a great cup of coffee and great food in the same place. The same owers just opened up another spot called The Goods in the village as well. The best spot for artisan donuts, and they have great coffee there too. read more

There was a wait but well worth it. Their food was amazing! The coffee not so great, well at least not to my liking. My friend enjoyed hers. The cinnamon roll was beyond amazing!! The restaurant is nice, clean and near the ocean. The staff was great as well. I will certainly return. read more

First time here and went for breakfast. Went with a basic breakfast as a trial run and it was pretty good. Some of the freshest eggs I've ever had. Will be back to try one of their specials next time. They have an interesting menu and the food is fresh. read more

Very cute place. Good service. Wait time was not too long for food. The pumpkin pancakes were massive! We couldn't finish them but they were good. The lattes were also very good. My only complaint is that the food wasn't super hot. It was still nice and warm but i was expecting it to be a bit warmer. Overall a great chill place for breakfast! :) read more

Cafe Topes sometime has slow service. However they have some pretty amazing dishes. One of the best places to grab breakfast or an early lunch in the village. Their coffee drinks are also on par with their food. Make sure you grab a cinnamon rolls when you are there! Another tip is to order off of the daily specials menu posted on the wall! read more

The smoked salmon Benedict( I don't believe that is the actually name on the menu) is really good. First time here definitely gonna come back again. The Levander mocha is a bit to sweet for my preference but you can always ask for less sugar so it doesn't hurt. read more

Found this cafe on yelp and once we saw a pic of their cinnamon roll we had to try it; we were more than impressed! The atmosphere is super cool AND the food was delicious! Their cinnamon roll is made from scratch and worth a visit just for it! I had a t-scramble with potatoes, my husband ate a breakfast burrito, and our daughter had pancakes (great selection of toppings) and everyone almost finished their plate, only stopping so we could share the cinnamon roll. Great experience, super friendly staff- will definitely be our go to breakfast when we visit in the future. Thanks so much, josh & staff, y'all were so great! read more

Two Words: Succulent Wall Yesterday, we stopped into the cafe for the second time (first was just for coffee). I had the bananna-nutella pancakes and my husband had an egg scramble with feta cheese. Both were tasty! Towards the end of the meal, the owner came around with a complimentary gluten-free cookie. They're still tweaking the menu all the time so there are still many new items to try. read more

I agree with everyone on the cinnamon rolls! They are one of the best I've ever had. Enough to share with a friend and even good if you eat them hours later. Breakfast was delicious but on the pricey side. The Cardiff crack is one of the best tasting meats I've eaten. It's worth the money to at least try it once. read more

We returned a week later and had 2 cinnamon rolls (one to go), awesome as expected and got the eggs scramble with avocado, bacon, fruit instead of potatoes and dry wheat toast. The bacon was amazing. The scramble was small but plenty for one. Quality bread was served. Even the fruit was delicious. Restrooms are very clean. I am still looking for a flaw in this place. This is our new favorite breakfast spot. Basically family run between the mother and her sons. read more

Good was amazing and service was fast and friendly! We ate the ban-a-tella pancakes(delicious), the French toast(amazing), bacon and chorizo burrito(perfect), and the cinnamon roll ( the best I have ever had in my life )!!!!! I don't normally like icing but this icing was so soft and perfect and the cinnamon roll was baked to awesome! Only negative was their regular coffee was terrible, but I didn't really come for the coffee so 5 stars!!! :) read more

Very excellent use of space....not just functional, but comfy and friendly. My wife and I shared the Eggs Benedict and it was fab ! Next time, I think we will split the French Dip....Oh, and the cinnamon rolls are better than the Del Mar fair ! read more

Are u a FOODIE?? Do you appreciate local and fresh ingredients? Do you prefer family run establishments? A place with good loose leaf tea selections??? Yes I am listing things that all make this restaurant the ideal breakfast/brunch/lunch spot in all of San Diego. It's location could not get any better as there is so much street parking and easy walk to the beach. I have not even begun to describe this very talented and warm family!!! They are so personable and really take the time to get to know you and make excellent recommendations. My friend and I went for Lunch. We had excellent tea, cinnamon raisin bread, the tri tip egg Benedict , crab Benedict, and bbq chicken salad. everything was delicious! Thank u for the wonderful experience, we will surely be back and let all our friend know! read more

I've been here twice so far and will be back regularly! The decor is very rustic hipster (which I love). I'm a huge coffee snob and I have to say that their coffee is some of the best I've had! Definitely try their Hawaiian Express! The food didn't come out the fastest, so if you are in a time crunch I wouldn't recommend dining in. But for those Sunday brunches with your friends it is well worth waiting for! read more

Cafe Topes in carlsbad village. 2 exits north from canon drive/legoland went there for breakfast before hitting the park. it was about 8 am so finding street parking was no issue. inside seating is limited [maybe 9 tables] but there is also outside seating. we ordered benedict, cinnamon rolls, regular breakfast eggs/bacon. they welcome surprise is that they sell Stumptown Coffee! huge fan of stumptown! the benedict was the best dish. it was worth the visit. however, the regular breakfast was really no better than what you can make yourself at home. in fact the bacon was limp and oily. eggs were just okay. everyone raves about the cinnamon rolls. they were just okay imo. they are huge and the glaze on top was just sweet enough. they werent tough or hard, but not as soft as a typical cinnabon. glad i was able to try this spot because of the high number of yelp reviews i saw, but there are alot of breakfast / brunch places also on my list in this area to try before i revisit. read more

One of the most beautifully crafted and delicious breakfast I've had in a while. The atmosphere is fantastic, and not only are the employees super friendly but so are the other customers. Being a Carlsbad local, I love trying new restaurants when they open. The ambiance is fab and the outdoor seating is very appealing. My husband and I went to Topes very soon after their grand opening. We waited in line to order for over 45 minutes, waaayyyy too long! The food came quick but was just okay. For a long as we waited, it was not worth it. We decided it was probably just new business kinks that needed to be worked out. After about six months, we decided to give it another go. Once again, we ended up waiting more than 30 minutes to order, the line was just a bit out the door. Once we got to the register, the guy was super nice, fast, and efficient. I think the main issue for the long wait in line were people just ordering super slow once they got to the front. Our food came quick but for the second time around, was just okay. I ordered the BBB burrito with hash browns and it was pretty lack luster. The hash browns were thin and very crispy (almost burnt). My husband order a chorizo omlette and he was not impressed. I will try this place again, and definitely order something else on the menu, perhaps their delicious looking home style potatoes, and only go IF the line is not out the door. Waiting in line for more than 30-40 minutes is not cool. read more

Holy mackerel! Every single thing on the menu is quality quality quality! We couldn't believe how perfectly the food is cooked, like you're in a gourmet 5 star joint. You can't go wrong choosing to eat here. The employees are awesome and friendly too. The Benedict choices are numerous and tasty, if you like spicey try the Mexican Benedict, or the Country Benny with fresh baked biscuits. read more

Decent brunch and lunch spot in Carlsbad. Diverse menu, some things better than others. I've been here a few times, had the breakfast burrito, a salad with chicken, chicken fried steak, pancakes, eggs, etc. Overall I'd say the food is good, not great. The one item I was not impressed by was the cinnamon bun. I thought it was dry and you'd be better off getting a cinnamon bun at vons. But other than that, a cute eclectic brunch spot. read more

This cute little spot is a hidden gem in Carlsbad! I've been here twice for breakfast and loved it! I love the ambience and vibe here and the indoor/outdoor seating options. Best breakfast food!!! We got the Maui pancakes... sooo goood!! I will definitely come back to this place and the service was amazing. The employees were nice and attentive and although this place was packed, we were given 5 star service! The outside seating is relaxing and the veggies omelette order was also amazing. We also got this acai bar pastry and it was so good. If it was possible to not get as full as I did I would've ordered so many other plates. Highly recommend this restaurant!!! The second time we visited this place was also great. We got the soyrizo burrito and it was delicious. The only thing that did bother me about the service was that we ordered French toast and we asked for syrup and there were several other people asking for syrup and the waitress kept taking the same bottle of syrup around the tables for people to use. I thought that was pretty rude and inconvenient for the customers who kept asking for it. Obviously it's a breakfast place and people will use syrup. I don't know why the waitress couldn't get more bottles of syrup or I'm not sure if the restaurant was lacking extra bottles. But anyways, that was the only thing that bothered me. Other than that I will continue to come and recommend this place ! :) read more

My personal Go To! And my family's. By far the best food I have ever had in Carlsbad. The dirty cinnamon roll got me hooked then trying other items on the menu and everything is just DELICIOUS! My mouth is watering just thinking about the food it's that good! read more

Took my mom for brunch for her birthday, having to order before being seated is a little weird but the food was great and there was a great selection of eggs benedict, too bad the salmon locks was sold out. The atmosphere is quaint and they have outdoor seating on a perfect socal day. They also have milk substitutes like coconut milk and soy for their lattes. read more

My fiancé and I came across this spot. I'm so glad we decided to stop by. It was totally worth it! The food is tasty, the seasoning is just perfect. Usually when we've gone to a restaurant we have to add salt on our food because it has no flavor , but this place was beyond delicious. Loved there horchata latte iced and their Mexican Benedict! We also tried their famous cinnamon roll and oh my was It delicious. They make their own bread there. Definitely better than Cinnabon. I give this place a five because of their great customer service and their delicious food! Definitely will be returning read more

From the moment you walk through the front doors, it's clear that this place is something special. The charming atmosphere, paired with the mouthwatering smells coming from the kitchen, sets the tone for a wonderful dining experience. The music was perfectly selected, with a chill vibe that matched the beach town feel. The staff was attentive and hardworking, always on their feet, and their guidance on the menu was especially helpful as both my husband and I had a hard time choosing. We began with drinks: the Hawaiian Express and the Peppermint White Mocha. The Hawaiian Express was a standout for me--its coconut-infused espresso flavor was absolutely delicious, and I'd rate it a solid 5/5. My husband tried the Peppermint White Mocha but was a bit disappointed, giving it a 3/5. He felt the peppermint flavor was too subtle, and the drink's texture became grainy toward the end. Next up was the Mom's Famous Cinny Roll, and wow--it was amazing! A perfect 5/5. The icing was heavenly, and I'd highly recommend opting for it "dirty" (extra icing) for the full experience. The Cinny Roll itself was light and fluffy, so much so that it felt like you could easily eat several in one sitting. The only slight critique we had was that the cinnamon flavor could have been a bit more pronounced, as the extra icing tended to dominate the dish's flavor profile. Perhaps a sprinkle of cinnamon on top would balance it out, but overall, it was an indulgent treat. Finally, we shared the Crack Breakfast Burrito, which was bursting with bold, flavorful spices. We highly recommend any of their "crack" dishes--they're definitely worth trying. I'd give it a 5/5. If there's a wait for the sauce, don't skip it--it's absolutely worth the wait. One thing we would suggest skipping, though, is the chips and salsa. The salsa was on the watery side, and we ended up not eating much of it. Next time, I'd opt for a different side. Cafe Tapas was the perfect spot for my birthday breakfast. Everything about this place made the morning special. I ordered the breakfast burrito, my husband got the Crack Benedict, and my kiddo had the "111." To drink, I had a matcha, and my husband had an iced vanilla coffee. The food was fresh and flavorful -- here's how I'd rate everything: Kids 111 Breakfast: 8/10 -- simple, classic, and perfectly done. Breakfast Burrito: 7/10 -- tasty, but could've been even better with a cream-based salsa like avocado or cilantro crema. Crack Benedict: 7/10 -- the hash browns were unreal, crispy and flavorful. My husband just realized he's not a steak Benedict guy, but that's a personal preference. Matcha: 1/10 -- unfortunately, this one missed the mark. Definitely low-grade matcha and not worth $6. I wouldn't recommend it. Now, the highlight: the service. The staff was incredibly attentive and kind. They even brought a bubble for my kiddo, which he loved! When I mentioned it was my birthday, they surprised me with a complimentary cinnamon roll -- and it was heavenly. I doubt that's a regular thing since they were busy launching their pop-up, but I was genuinely grateful for the gesture. We started this yelp as a way to blog our food and we started off really splendid! We went in mid morning and were surprised by how busy it was (where I come from that's a good sign) first thing we liked was how open the kitchen was, and it looked so clean, a really tall chef was laughing and dancing and it looked like such a good time in the kitchen. Next thing we noticed was the huge menu, so many options, wait 10 minutes for huge options for lunch? Or dive into the giant breakfast? Decided to go with the breakfast, I did the veggie scramble and she did the double header Benedict, lavender coffee is a must as was recommended by the sweet girl at the register (she was training but doing very well) after about 5 minutes out walks these monuments to breakfast, my scramble was the perfect amount of veggies piled into fresh egg scrambled right in that sweet spot 10/10 on the hash browns as well and a nice thick toast. My wife said she's never had such perfectly poached eggs before today. All and all it was really well done. Servers are sweet and that kitchen is a blast to watch! Will be back and often read more

NEVER AGAIN! If you value your time and don't wish to be treated rudely, don't go here! After waiting more than an hour for our food (when we were told the wait would be 30 minutes) I noticed that several people who were in line behind us to order, already had their food and were halfway through their meals. When I inquired about the status of our order, I was told "they are plating it now"...and still waited an additional 15 minutes....for eggs?! We decided to leave and wanted our money back. The manager was condescending and couldn't have cared less that she had some dissatisfied customers. When I asked how it was possible that people behind us in line already had their food and we didn't, she said "I don't need your attitude"! Whoa! Not a voice was raised, not a rude word uttered...other than by her (the manager). Sorry but, north county is filled with way too many outstanding restaurants (who actually remember that their customer is where they make their money!) to waste my time here. read more

Carlsbad just got GOOD ! Cinnamon Rolls ...OM-Gosh ! THE BEST ! Homemade, yummy treat ! Crack and Eggs...perfection.... Pretzel buns....Garlic Burger was to die for....... This Cafe' beats all other cafes in and around Carlsbad... food made with love ! The only reason I deducted 1-star was I really think they should have table Servers, due to the volume of business and such, it would be nice to order and know you have a table especially on weekends when they are busy, it adds a personal touch to the love of food the owners are giving you, I think in speaking with my neighbors and friends who have been here multiple times, they all agreed, table Servers would be a huge boost to business, weekends add a Hostess to seat, Servers for table service, you already have excellent service but that would add the final personal touch to this grand food experience. I really wanted to love this place when I first came here based on all the great things I had heard. Unfortunately, I did not experience any of these great things upon my visit. Service: Girl at front register seemed unenthusiastic and had problems answering questions we had regarding basic menu items. Food: I settled on a classic eggs benedict with no canadian bacon, sautéed potatoes and a coffee. Coffee was basic, nothing special at all. Benedict came out with cold potatoes and very over-poached eggs. After mentioning this to the staff, they took my plate and returned 30 seconds later with a plate that had clearly been microwaved. At this point, I was too hungry to make more of a deal about it. I was going for 2 stars but their cute atmosphere earned another star. There are plenty of other breakfast/brunch places in better locations that are much more worth checking out. read more

Time for an update since my last review was over 9 years ago. 4/5 Crack tacos - fresh, solid, tasty filling, tender meat, didn't skimp on avocado or meat. 2/5 Fish and chips - fish itself was good but the overall breading was soggy and so were the fries. I don't believe in my whole life I have had a soggy fish and chips. How does that even happen? It appeared a dark brown, cooked breading? Did someone leave it sitting on the counter for too long? I don't know but it was terribly disappointing. Definitely missed not having real tartar sauce. I know they are trying to make fun and good food but I find when coming here the food is hit or miss. I've never had anything bad here. The food is not exactly inventive, but very solid. A weekend treat is getting the Crack 'n' eggs for breakfast. It's Cardiff Crack tri tip and eggs and is so so so good every time. I've had their benedict before and their omelets are always spot on too. My only criticisms are that they have gotten my sides wrong on more than one occasion and the line is always ridiculous. But frankly, if you're just having a lazy Sunday brunch, sitting in line for 15 minutes isn't too terrible, is it? Lastly, the succulent wall is very impressive (I happen to love succulents) and sitting in the dining room seems to almost be mellowed out by this giant living wall. Found this amazing place cause it was on our way home and if nothing else the people here are extremely friendly and genuinely happy. I've not come across such nice people in a long time! The food was mouth watering and the portions were big . This is the place to stop if you do not live around here and if you do then you're missing out for sure. On another note the restaurant is clean and the bathroom was clean too. I took my daughter and I didn't cringe when I walked in. It was actually really clean and smelled good . My recent visit to Cafe Topes left me quite satisfied. The chicken fried steak was an absolute highlight, boasting a delightful crispiness and expertly seasoned breading. Opting for the gravy on the side was a wise choice, allowing me to manage the creaminess to my preference. The blackberry Bellini was a burst of pure blackberry goodness - a delightful drink choice. I was equally pleased with the fluffy and delicious hash browns. While my experience was wonderful, a touch more variety in menu options could elevate it even further. Nevertheless, Cafe Topes dedication to crafting delectable dishes is clear, and I'm looking forward to returning to enjoy more of their culinary offerings! read more

I visited Cafe Topes last Labor Day weekend and while the experience had its ups and downs, it left me with mixed feelings. The wait time was quite long, which was a bit frustrating, especially considering the prices were on the higher side. For a cafe with that pricing, I expected a smoother experience. That said, the pancakes were definitely a highlight--fluffy and flavorful. However, the rest of the food was pretty average. I wouldn't say it was bad, but it didn't stand out enough to justify the wait or the cost. Overall, it's worth checking out for the pancakes, but the overall experience could be improved. read more

My husband & I have tried over 1/2 the menu & have yet to be disappointed,, It's hard to find a good family run , eatery Especially in Carlsbad today was no different my husband had the double header (not on the menu yet) classic Benedict & country Benedict on the Same plate. My boyfriend and I recently visited Café Topes for the first time, and we had a great experience. When we arrived, the line to order was fairly long, but it moved quickly, and the staff were very friendly. I ordered my coffee dairy-free, but it was initially made with regular milk. Fortunately, the staff corrected the mistake right away. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the red chilaquiles--the salsa was mouth-watering. My boyfriend ordered the tri-tip tacos and really enjoyed them as well. Overall, we had a wonderful visit and would definitely recommend this place! read more

I want to like this place so bad, but I have a bad experience every time I go. :( I asked for an iced latte...they brought out a hot...no big deal...I told them I ordered an iced....they took my hot latte and poured it over ice! The ice melted in no time and I had a watered down latte that wasn't even worth drinking. Plus, all the food that I've ordered there has been mediocre at best. :-/ On the bright side, the place is super cute. I live in the Palms Springs area so I believe this gives me some credibility about reviewing restraunts. I have been to Cafe Topes several times with my wife and each time is more amazing than the last. I have read the reviews on here and some really irritate me. The place has been open less than 3 mos. so give them a break. If you have a gripe, let Joe and Jacquie know as I know they will make it right with you. Absolutely loved this place! The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared. The service was impressively fast without sacrificing friendliness, which made the whole experience even better. Yes that's right. If you are Hispanic, black or any other race rather than white then you're advised not to even think about entering this place. Only the kitchen people are Hispanic. Front of the house are all white. Discrimination to the maximum. The owners are racist and if you step foot into this cafe you will be looked down and throw a lot of unwelcome vibes at you like you absolutely don't deserve to be treated with the same dignity and respect. The food here is hit or miss, some of it is delicious & at other times it's just ok. The benedicts & huevos rancheros are my fav...the coffee needs some serious help, I've tried several different types from lattes to mochas & the foam was gone very quickly, not velvety smooth & not so great. Hopefully they can train their baristas, the location is great & the staff is super helpful & friendly. But I won't go here unless I've already had coffee elsewhere as I find it lackluster. read more
