This spot is delicious for breakfast and brunch. You can't go wrong with any of the food or coffee drinks. It's not that big of a restaurant so finding a seat can sometimes be challenging during peak times. There's usually a line out the door too so try and get there early if you're going on a weekend. Found this cafe on yelp and once we saw a pic of their cinnamon roll we had to try it; we were more than impressed! The atmosphere is super cool AND the food was delicious! Their cinnamon roll is made from scratch and worth a visit just for it! I had a t-scramble with potatoes, my husband ate a breakfast burrito, and our daughter had pancakes (great selection of toppings) and everyone almost finished their plate, only stopping so we could share the cinnamon roll. Two Words: Succulent Wall Yesterday, we stopped into the cafe for the second time (first was just for coffee). I had the bananna-nutella pancakes and my husband had an egg scramble with feta cheese. Both were tasty! Towards the end of the meal, the owner came around with a complimentary gluten-free cookie. We returned a week later and had 2 cinnamon rolls (one to go), awesome as expected and got the eggs scramble with avocado, bacon, fruit instead of potatoes and dry wheat toast. The bacon was amazing. I've been here twice so far and will be back regularly! The decor is very rustic hipster (which I love). I'm a huge coffee snob and I have to say that their coffee is some of the best I've had! Definitely try their Hawaiian Express! The food didn't come out the fastest, so if you are in a time crunch I wouldn't recommend dining in. Cafe Topes in carlsbad village. 2 exits north from canon drive/legoland went there for breakfast before hitting the park. it was about 8 am so finding street parking was no issue. inside seating is limited [maybe 9 tables] but there is also outside seating. we ordered benedict, cinnamon rolls, regular breakfast eggs/bacon. they welcome surprise is that they sell Stumptown Coffee! huge fan of stumptown! the benedict was the best dish. it was worth the visit. however, the regular breakfast was really no better than what you can make yourself at home. in fact the bacon was limp and oily. eggs were just okay. everyone raves about the cinnamon rolls. they were just okay imo. they are huge and the glaze on top was just sweet enough. they werent tough or hard, but not as soft as a typical cinnabon. glad i was able to try this spot because of the high number of yelp reviews i saw, but there are alot of breakfast / brunch places also on my list in this area to try before i revisit. read more

Being a Carlsbad local, I love trying new restaurants when they open. The ambiance is fab and the outdoor seating is very appealing. My husband and I went to Topes very soon after their grand opening. We waited in line to order for over 45 minutes, waaayyyy too long! The food came quick but was just okay. For a long as we waited, it was not worth it. We decided it was probably just new business kinks that needed to be worked out. After about six months, we decided to give it another go. Once again, we ended up waiting more than 30 minutes to order, the line was just a bit out the door. Once we got to the register, the guy was super nice, fast, and efficient. I think the main issue for the long wait in line were people just ordering super slow once they got to the front. Our food came quick but for the second time around, was just okay. I ordered the BBB burrito with hash browns and it was pretty lack luster. The hash browns were thin and very crispy (almost burnt). My husband order a chorizo omlette and he was not impressed. I will try this place again, and definitely order something else on the menu, perhaps their delicious looking home style potatoes, and only go IF the line is not out the door. Waiting in line for more than 30-40 minutes is not cool. read more

My sister and I had an absolutely fabulous breakfast here on Saturday. There was a line out the door to get in and we weren't sure if we were going to stick around but boy am I glad we did. If you ever get here and there's a long line, trust me it is well worth the wait. First of all their cinnamon roll which you can order "dirty", meaning smothered in their delicious WARM cream cheese frosting is beyond amazing. My sister had the rustic breakfast which was some kind of egg and avocado sandwich with pesto on it and the pesto was some of the best I've ever had.
