I went to this cafe on a whim and sadly I regret it. I was expecting something great since the rating was so high. I ordered a latte and an open faced sandwich with avocado, scrambled egg and salmon. The coffee was just ok, but I was completely disgusted by what they presented to me for the sandwich. It was small for the price and tasted fake. The eggs tasted like they were made from powder, the avocado was so blended and thinned out it was more like a spread or dip. And I could taste all the additives in that 'avocado' . Probably the only thing real was the salmon and bread, cause how can you fake that. A Monday afternoon in August and I don't usually do this but I decided to stop at this place and treat myself to kill some time away from the outdoor madness on Canal St. Upon entering it felt very cozy. Lots of wood. Wooden tables, seating, a lovely well decorated large scale wooden book case. There is much on the menu to choose from, it took me a while to decide. I ended up ordering Breakfast plate #1. I also tried the Guava iced-tea lemonade to go with it. The first thing to arrive at my table was the Guava drink. I wasn't thrilled at first sip but my taste buds seemed to have a change of heart after the next few sips with the food that came after. I found myself absolutely loving this drink! The more I drank the more this flavor made me feel as if I were somewhere relaxing on a tropical beach (contained no alcohol btw). There is just something about the flavor. So they brought the breakfast platter out to my table and It was a big plate, filled with goods (scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon and salad). It looked great and it tasted even better. I was very pleased. The atmosphere was nice. Incoming customers decent. They have outlets by the tables for convenient device charging. I actually really enjoyed eating at this place. It was a pleasant experience and I definitely want to come back here again to try another one of their drinks. The only downfall--the bathroom door from the inside (spray painted with graffiti). The coffe here is excellent, but if you're coming for breakfast, don't be in a hurry. They seem to put a priority on drinks, and we waited 30 minutes for breakfast sandwiches. Ridiculous. I was hoping for bubble tea, but at 8:15 AM in the morning maybe I was expecting too much. There was poor communication between the waitress and the one other guy working. Everytime I'm in the city I make several trips just to get the sakura rose latte or whatever variation of sakura rose drink is in season from this specific caffe bene location. It's pretty much a tradition for me now and I'm not sure what I would do if they took it off the menu. I have also tried the apple chicken grilled cheese sandwich and thought it was pretty good for a chain cafe. However recently I got some macarons there because macaron cafe was closed, those macarons were the hardest and driest macarons I've ever had. I had to toss the whole box out because I couldn't even bite down on them. I've gotten macaron cafe macarons and I know they stay soft for over a week in the fridge (yea I know you're supposed to eat them within days), which means these macarons were probably sitting there for over a week. Still will always be back for that sakura rose latte, and will definitely like to try more freshly made food, but I would suggest passing on the macarons. read more
