North Beach is the cutest neighborhood in the city, in my opinion, and has the cutest Italian cafes. Caffe Greco is no exception. This cash only spot has my favorite cannoli in the city, and also the most gigantic cappuccino I've seen in the city. There is ample seating, both indoor and out, and the desserts are simply divine. Caffe Greco is the perfect spot for: - a coffee date - people watching from the sidewalk - catching up with a friend - cozy scene to read a book. I love it here. read more

If there were 100 stars, I'd rate Cafe Greco 100 stars for there quality coffee, service, ambiance and the two employees who have been working there for about 30 years. I think this cafe is a wonderful Italian coffee and snack restaurant. I love that they are open until 11pm for those late night coffee addicts, like myself, and that they have a great selection of cafe treats including Italian ice cream, cookies/biscotti, cannoli, tiramisu, panforte, etc... The decorations are also very interesting with lots of art-deco paintings. It definitely gives slow, European, coffee and people watching vibes. (But great service!) I would give 5 stars but there are a couple of things I would like to see to turn this into my favorite café. This place is cash only and a bit pricy. I don't mind it being cash only, that's their right, but when coffee, a sandwich and dessert for two +tax & tip is around $50 I might not be carrying all that cash on me. Also, they tend to run out of cannoli and various other high profile desserts. That said, I still like coming here with friends anytime of the day and enjoying a nice tiramisu. read more

This cafe is located in the charming touristy North Beach District on Columbus. These days, the price of coffee and a dessert for two is $25. $7 is the cost of a large cup of premium coffee. Overpriced in my books but that isn't my reason for the average review. Indoors, it's too stuffy and bright; the outdoor dining is somewhat funnier but too loud. So it isn't really a comfortable to converse. Also, too many weirdos in SF anymore so it really isn't comfortable to lounge in any one spot for too long. The coffee was decent though. read more

We were looking for breakfast place and Cafe Greco looked good to us. Unfortunately, it was big disappointment. 2 poached eggs and 2 coffee cost $40. Poached eggs were a joke. It was not poached it was overcooked inside and raw on top and it look like a poor breakfast. Coffee tasted great but $40 for this is a lot. SF has much better places for example Brioche Bakery that we found next day excellent breakfast cost us half of that. read more

Walked in here after dinner for a sweet treat and the coffee smell right when you come in smells amazing. The service was great. They do only take cash so definitely come prepared. A European style cafe in San Francisco's little Italy. Delicious espresso drinks and Italian desserts such as tiramisu and cannoli. I have gone to this cafe on and off for about a year and always order oat milk cappuccinos, which are a bit pricey but are very good. This is a great place to do work on the computer, people watch, or chat with a friend. They play a mixture of Italian and French jazz with Euro-pop. This place is cash only and you have to order at the bar, there is no table service. The workers are really nice! The wifi password changes sometimes, but you can just ask the people at the counter. This cafe I feel like is a lot more comfortable and relaxed than many other cafes in San Francisco which I find can be a lot more stuffy, with uncomfortable seating and unwelcoming vibes. They also are open really late compared to other cafes in SF which tend to close around 2pm or 3pm. read more

Large cafe with a limited dessert menu. However, what they do make is really good. And it seems like as things are starting to open up a bit more here, their dessert selection is slowly growing. Tiramisu: So many tiramisus to go are kinda dry. I guess logistically the bakeries worry that it will make the whole box of goodies soggy. Not here! You get a dedicated plastic container for your tiramisu and can see the extra liquid dripping out, indicating the ladyfingers have a good soaking. Additionally, the creamy part on top is super smooth and creamy, not over whipped so it'd be too thick. Chocolate Torrone: Like a (U.S.) Mars bar, but without the caramel. You can tell it was fresh because the nougat was very soft. Lots of nicely toasted almond pieces and a few pistachios. The chocolate coating was ok, but tasted a bit waxy, so it wasn't quite like the chocolate you'd find surrounding a candy bar. Sacripantina: Wow, this was a surprise! Actually way better than Stella's signature rendition. The big difference is that the outermost layer here is crunchy. It adds such a nice contrast to the fluffy cake and creamy layers. Also, felt like the flavors here were a bit more pronounced too. Brasiliana: A chocolate cake with some creamy layers. Indulgent for sure. A nice dark chocolate zing from the shavings. Was tasty, but didn't compare to the Sacripantina. Double Chocolate Pudding Cake: I read in Yelp reviews that this was really tasty and really moist. It was just kinda meh to me. Maybe the most meh item I had here. Kinda tasted like a chocolate pound cake with a thin chocolate frosting. Better to try the aforementioned desserts instead. read more

Caffe Greco is the closest to an Italian cafe you'll get. From the interior and outdoor seating arrangements, to the timeless decor - it transported me back to Italy! I was in the area for dinner with family who love Caffe Greco. The line was nearly out the door which is always a good sign for a spot like this. We went up to the counter to see what sweets and desserts they had available. It was so hard to pick just one , so we decided to order multiple and try them all! This location is cash only but they have an atm conveniently placed around the corner from the tail end of the line. Food: Tiramisu - 10/10 easily the best tiramisu I've had. I recently begun tasting tiramisu at any restaurant it is served, and this location puts everywhere else to shame. It is perfectly sweet with the right amount of espresso. Citrus Vanilla Cake - 10/10 I wish I got the name for this one, but it is multilayered and easy to spot. The crumbles on top were sugar coated and delicious - but it was the buttercream that solidified it for me. Chocolate pudding cake- 7/10 This cake is really delicious and an easy win for picky eaters. Overall, this is one of the busiest patisseries and cafes that you'll see what the hype is about. Make sure to bring cash - if not, the atm is always operating in store. read more

Really bad - rude and inhospitable... most of the staff the owner too....they just dont care about service - its take it or leave it. I am English and drink VERY weak coffee...I have 1/3 coffee and the rest water. Still pay the same price which is fine. But when I asked if I could have a larger cup so I could have more water I was told I have to pay for the larger cup even though I was only getting more water. When I complained to the server he just shrugged and pulled an I dont give a #@!# face. the owner was equally rude.... NEVER AGAIN.. read more

Came here an early afternoon met with a pretty long and slow line to order. The inside of the caffe is cute and posh, but was a bit off put to find the place is cash only and paired with lofty prices for a caffe. From here I ordered a cappucino, which was milkier than I prefer, breakfast panini, which was just ok, and banana walnut bread, which was of standard quality. My wife and I popped in here early this morning and had a double mocha, cappuccino, salmon bagel, turkey and egg white panini, orange/chocolate cookie and a cannoli that I devoured. Everything was delicious! The only thing we'd order differently is the egg white to be scrambled instead of just peeling a boiled egg, tossing the yolk and placing the pieces of egg white on the panini. The staff and customers we met at the counter were incredibly friendly and funny. It made a great start to our morning. We loved the Italian music playing in the background and the groups chattering and laughing about. read more

One of my favorite places in the city! Right in the center of the Italian establishment, the place has a very European feel and has plenty of tables to spend either minutes, hours, or the whole day, I guess. Have thoroughly enjoyed every visit of mine. You may ask what is good here? The answer is that everything that I have tried is very very good. Their cakes especially the Tiramisu is to die for, so light so fluffy so tasty. I have tried their chocolate cake, and the ricotta cheesecake with lemon which are all very good too. Cant recommend this highly. It is a must-visit who is a fan of coffee, cakes or cafes in general. Full 5 stars for me! read more

Dropped by here for quick bite, and got an ice cream and cookie. Ordered : Spumoni ice cream - this was the first time I've had Spumoni ice cream, and it was delicious. Their ice cream was super creamy, and the nuttiness added a great complexity that made me savor it all. Orange and Chocolate cookie - this was a big disappointment, with how it appeared. It was super dry, and needed more orange flavor. With the way it is, it needs coffee to be eaten, which I can see, but still isn't amazing either way. Would come back and try their cannoli, which seems high in demand, but their coffee and ice creams are solid! read more

Highly recommended by our server at Betty Lou's Seafood Grill across the street because they don't serve dessert. We could not have been more pleased. The short walk in the 42 degree temperature made a hot beverage soooo necessary. The bowl of white chocolate mocha was perfect. We each tried something different in the spirit if wanting a small taste of everything. The carrot cake was delicious with the thickest cream cheese frosting. Hands down the best Tiramisu I have ever had and a slice of Italian cake that was dusted with espresso and chocolate shavings filled with creamy whipped cream. All three were amazing read more

We later found out the driver had left the food at the hotel but never told the front desk which room it was for, even though they had all of the delivery information. As a result, our food just sat there until we eventually had to go down and get it ourselves. In the end, I paid for a delivery service that I never actually received. Instead of enjoying the convenience we paid for, we had to track down our own order. Based on this experience, I would not recommend paying for delivery. If you're ordering from this restaurant, save your money and pick it up yourself. I paid for a service, but I did not receive what I paid for. Then to make it worse the breakfast sandwich was just OK. Nothing to write home to mom about. To say the least we will not be ordering her again and would not recommend this restaurant.

The same latino at the counter has been serving excellent coffee for many years. He's very nice and a good representative of this local institution. My only gripe: I don't like warm, frothy, steamed cream in my drip coffee. Not everyone wants a "cappuccino"-like cup of coffee. I enjoy the standard, old-fashioned cup of coffee, with a few drops of milk (ie, whole milk or cream) straight from the carton. Getting this place to understand that I do NOT want the same steamed cream they use in cappuccino in my coffee is difficult. Translation: If you put steamed cream into a cup of coffee, you have cappuccino. When I asked him to please let me have *normal* milk (from the carton) he looked at me like I was speaking Greek. Otherwise, the coffee is fantastic (smooth and not bitter), the place is always bustling with friendly tourists, and you can always find a seat outside on the sidewalk, which is a great spot for people watching. read more

I thought this cafe was okay until I had to use the bathroom. The door had a funky punch-number lock, so you have to ask a counter person. They told me it was occupied so I waited. While I waited, an elderly lady ignored the lock and breezed right in. I think the lock doesn't work so they tell everyone it's occupied. (My friend was also told it was occupied, when it wasn't.) A number code lock is the worst idea for a public restroom. If they tell people the code, then anyone who knows the code could barge in on someone already inside. If they keep the code a secret, then they become bathroom door attendants, and have to always know if someone is or isn't in the bathroom, and then have to drop whatever they're doing to punch in the code to let someone in. It was totally inconvenient and a bit sleazy. I could never bring out-of-town guests here, which means I won't be going either. read more

The coffee house of the 21st century demands electrical outlets by every seat so the customer can hook up their multiple devices to charge if necessary. Caffe Greco? Not exactly. 2 outlets difficult to find. The 21st century coffeehouse has free, secure WiFi for its patrons. Caffe Greco? Not exactly. No identified network, definitely not secure. The coffee house of the 21st century has gleaming sterile counters and chairs that are ecologically neutral. Caffe Greco? Not exactly but somewhat. Old school wooden chairs and tables, and wood can be grown anew, as in a tree. It does have the aforementioned drinks (love the cappuccino) and good biscotti. After a thrilling game at the Coliseum, got back to the city and had a sudden craving for something sweet. Somehow, the walk from Embarcadero to North Beach on a windy night seemed worth the effort. Once I got there, I was in dessert heaven. Given my love for ricotta cheesecake (different and imo better than the regular cheesecake), I stopped at Caffe Greco for my 50th (or more) visit in a year. Their desserts hit the spot to say the least, and you can never go wrong. Right from the cannoli to the tiramisu to the sacripantina, the desserts are well balanced and delicious. Atmosphere is mellow and gives a taste of what Telegraph Hill/North Beach is like, when you grab one of the tables outside. Café Grecco is an absolute gem! This was my first time trying ricotta cheesecake and I felt like a changed woman! The creamy texture and heavenly flavor left me speechless (I will 100% be on the lookout for ricotta cheesecake on dessert menus). We also indulged in their tiramisu, which was delicious--so creamy and rich! Despite arriving right at closing, the staff was friendly and accommodating (though not that they only take cash). The coffee is arguably the best in the city here. I especially like the latte they prepare. Personally, I am not a big espresso drinker, but more of a drip person. However, I do like lattes and, sometimes, I like americano's as well. This place is a real treat for coffee drinks. I tried their tiramisu once and it was good. The rest of the deserts were nothing special. And gelato was ok. Mostly recommend it for coffee drinks. You are bound to run into lots of tourists here. Holy Cannoli Batman! North Beach was a ghost town last night at 10pm...our quest to end the evening with some sweets and coffee seemed doomed. Luckily Caffe Greco was open and had a great selection of desserts. I stopped my here for a cappuccino and a mid afternoon break. The place was not as busy as the place next door but I thought the coffee would be pretty tasty. I was surprised the coffee was kinda on the weak side. The shot was freshly made on the espresso machine, but the guy must have been tired or something. Not grumpy, but not really friendly. It is not easy finding good Tiramisu in the city. This is one of the few places I can say I hesitate before I order dessert. Many of the Tiramisus I have had in SF have either had too much rum or the there is not a good mix of creme and chocolate, so I kinda gave up on ordering them. Gave up until I found Cafe Greco. The combo of coffee and Tiramisu are out of a dream, you can almost imagine you are somewhere in Italy (my idea of a low rent va-ca). read more

One word - great coffee! (Oops, that was two words). They use Illy cafe and that's why. I think they also have a great espresso machine and that's another reason why. Once a month, usually in the middle of the day, I go there for a latte. I think they are the best in the city for coffee. It's not burned, like it is in many places. One of my favorite places for people watching. I always come for the salad with smoked salmon which is delicious but a little pricey. They only accept cash, but there are plenty of ATMs on neighboring streets. A "CASH ONLY" sign always makes me think that the café might be avoiding taxes by not accepting card payments, which ultimately feels like they're being dishonest with both the government and their customers. The chicken sandwich with guanciale is outstanding, the maritozzo is perfect, the "plain" cornetto is anything but plain (and yes... better than a French croissant... my French friends will not like this lol), and the tiramisu is a must. Their cortado is the best I've had in the city. After years of wishing for a great café in my neighborhood, Poesia Café has become my daily go‑to. I bring friends, clients, anyone who visits. It's the best café in SF by a mile.

The coffee was good, not quite Philz level but fine. I liked the fresh flavor and melty texture of the mango mousse though the cake underneath was a tad refrigerated. Tables were well spaced avoiding the crowding that happens at popular spots like Philz or SPRO. I came back today and tried the $4.99 Medium Iced Coffee and a slice of the $4.99 Coconut Tart (Photo 9). Once again, the coffee satisfied, this time as a cold brew. The tart was a bit too refrigerated, but that didn't stop me from finishing it. It's nice to find an option that offers me coffee and a sweet treat. All things In moderation, right? Each one brought a little bit of heaven. A guilty pleasure, not going to lie. But in a world full of mediocre options, this one is a treat for yourself. You're worth it! They could probably have fit more tables and seats in there. There is a row of chairs by a counter along the window facing Columbus Avenue, so one could sip their coffee or eat their food while crowd-watching. I sat at the far end of a long table inside and drank my coffee, which was good enough but not strong enough in flavor. It did not give me the kick I needed from my afternoon cup of coffee. There were a few people working on their laptops and a few others drinking coffee and chatting. It seems to be a good place to either work or relax and read.
