I tried the cappuccino and tiramisu. This place is cash only and has lots of indoor seating options. I didn't love the cappuccino but the tiramisu was pretty good but I haven't had much tiramisu in my life so I'm not sure how it compares. They had other desserts and breakfast and lunch items so if I came back I would try something savory and then a different dessert. The service was fast and friendly. read more

Nice spot with fast service, lots of space for sitting as well. Came with a big group and had no trouble finding space to accommodate all of us. Caffe Greco is nicely decorated with cool art and a good ambiance. There was many options for desserts, but it's important to note that this place is CASH ONLY. I believe they have an ATM in the room adjacent to the main. I had the cannoli and cappuccino. Cappuccino was good and served hot. Cannoli was just ok, and tried a bite of my friends tiramisu and it did not have a strong expresso or alcohol flavor. All in all, this place is definitely not the most 'authentic' but don't think it claims to be. Cute spot, with decent enough food and drink. read more

An anciente hangout with good coffee. If I remember correctly, Greco was here on Columbus 40+ years ago, but only in one storefront. Getting window seats indoors is not as difficult as it was before the sidewalk seating "parklets" emerged fully gown from the head of Pandemic, and those seats are still the best way to evade some of our famous, beloved fog.... read more

A classic spot in Little Italy in SF! Cafe is very cute with lots of seating. Not really a work cafe since there's mainly only one outlet on the left front side, but would definitely come here for a bite with friends or for a date! They have a great variety of cookies, cakes, coffee, gelato, and more! Ordering at the front is **cash only** as a heads up and they are very quick at getting orders in and out. read more

We were just here on September 26th around 1:30 pm and the cashier tried to scam us on our order. We ordered a canolli, house coffee and tea and he said it was $20 when it was obviously not. I like Caffe Greco, for the same reasons others do - a very good cappuccino and old-school vibe. I have two small gripes: the cash-only thing (tax-dodge?), and the lack of effort to keep the bar stocked. Neither the sidewalk menu board nor the posted menu mentions cash-only. It's only after you've stood in line and arrived at the counter to order do you see the small hand-lettered 'no cash' sign. I sometimes forget this and have to bail ...my bad. Come on guys, at least update this aspect of the business, if not for forgetful me, then for other would-be first-time customers. Tack on the 3% if you must, like many other restaurants in town. As for the bar...what self-respecting caffe Italiano has only 1 glass of vermouth rosso in their entire inventory? Not everyone wants a cappuccino late in the afternoon. I'll remember the cash-only thing next time, and bring my own liquid pick-me-up. read more

Caffe Greco is such a cute little cafe located in Little Italy! I ordered their hot white chocolate mocha, and it was SO GOOD. It was probably the best one that I've ever tried. They also have some food options like bagels, croissants, etc., but I didn't try any of them. The line can get pretty long, but we waited only around 10 minutes when we went on a Saturday morning. The downside is that they are cash only! We didn't know until we got to the front of the line, but luckily I had some cash on me. The outdoor seating is also super cute, but is definitely limited. They also have some seating inside. This would be a cute place to study or read. read more

The coffee (cappuccino and latte) were delicious, really way above par, probably due to superb quality coffee beans. The almond torte was unbelievable! Not too sweet, moist, and a huge piece which the three of shared. We sat out on the covered sidewalk patio, it started raining but we were cozy and it was delightful. Stopped into this cute cafe for dessert after dinner and it didn't disappoint. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful when picking out a dessert. The tiramisu and chocolate cookie were fresh, tasted like it fell off a boast from Italy. They tasted amazing. Good amount of seating area indoors and out. A really pleasant spot for lunch, but fyi it's cash only. We got focaccia paninis with prosciutto, mozzarella, and roasted red peppers. The sandwiches were fantastic and paired well with the side salad. The iced lattes we got were just okay (a little too milky for me) and we ended the meal with a slice of their tiramisu. The cafe is pretty spacious and there's also a nice outdoor seating area, which is where I chose to sit for some people watching. read more

This long term North Beach establishment is very cozy and ideal to come for a cappuccino and sit with a book. Since it's on Columbus it gets a lot of foot traffic and is great for people watching. It's worth noting that it's Cash only. It's my favorite in North Beach mainly because it has the most amount of seating with many tables outside on the sidewalk and 2 rooms inside. With the parklets there's even more so hopefully they will last. This place has been here a long time in a city where things come and go easily. I just recently binged the Real World show (the OG 90s one) and it was one of the only places that the cast went to that is still around today. read more

The vibe here is so romantic. We had dinner and walking in the area! There was a moment I felt I was in Europe. We ordered a carrot cake and chocolate mousse, and a coffee. I liked all of them. Charming and simple CASH ONLY cafe in North Beach. They have an ATM inside, but better to come prepared and avoid the withdrawal fee. Enter and head over to the counter to peruse the cake display and put in your order. We came by on a Sunday afternoon after brunch to continue chatting over coffee and cake. There was no line at the time we came in and the staff at the counter were very friendly! Coffee and a sweet treat is always the perfect combination. I had a hot americano, which was pretty standard, with the cakes we selected. Carrot cake and tiramisu were both solid! If you're craving either of those, it would satisfy it for sure. This was my first time trying sacripantina and I enjoyed it! It's a liqueur-soaked sponge cake with custard, so in a similar vein as tiramisu. I'm a little bewildered that I've been coming here for over a quarter-century and somehow have never left a review; mind blown. Caffe Greco is a North Beach institution, and one of the reasons that I wanted to live in this San Francisco neighborhood. It exudes the same vibe I recall from spending time in countless neighborhood cafés around Italy, from Cortina to many Roman piazzas. The pastries and cakes are varied; all I've tasted have been satisfying. Their coffee drinks -- usually a macchiato or cappuccino for me -- have always been a delight; my "madeline" if you will. In these pandemic times they're served in a paper cup rather than the heavyweight ceramic of better days, but this too shall pass. I'll be heading back to North Beach shortly, and Caffe Greco will get another visit. Friendly and helpful staff just drives home the deal. read more

North Beach is the cutest neighborhood in the city, in my opinion, and has the cutest Italian cafes. Caffe Greco is no exception. This cash only spot has my favorite cannoli in the city, and also the most gigantic cappuccino I've seen in the city. There is ample seating, both indoor and out, and the desserts are simply divine. I think this cafe is a wonderful Italian coffee and snack restaurant. I love that they are open until 11pm for those late night coffee addicts, like myself, and that they have a great selection of cafe treats including Italian ice cream, cookies/biscotti, cannoli, tiramisu, panforte, etc... The decorations are also very interesting with lots of art-deco paintings. It definitely gives slow, European, coffee and people watching vibes. (But great service!) I would give 5 stars but there are a couple of things I would like to see to turn this into my favorite café. This place is cash only and a bit pricy. I don't mind it being cash only, that's their right, but when coffee, a sandwich and dessert for two +tax & tip is around $50 I might not be carrying all that cash on me. Also, they tend to run out of cannoli and various other high profile desserts. That said, I still like coming here with friends anytime of the day and enjoying a nice tiramisu. read more

The same latino at the counter has been serving excellent coffee for many years. He's very nice and a good representative of this local institution. My only gripe: I don't like warm, frothy, steamed cream in my drip coffee. Not everyone wants a "cappuccino"-like cup of coffee. I enjoy the standard, old-fashioned cup of coffee, with a few drops of milk (ie, whole milk or cream) straight from the carton. Getting this place to understand that I do NOT want the same steamed cream they use in cappuccino in my coffee is difficult. Translation: If you put steamed cream into a cup of coffee, you have cappuccino. When I asked him to please let me have *normal* milk (from the carton) he looked at me like I was speaking Greek. Otherwise, the coffee is fantastic (smooth and not bitter), the place is always bustling with friendly tourists, and you can always find a seat outside on the sidewalk, which is a great spot for people watching. read more

I thought this cafe was okay until I had to use the bathroom. The door had a funky punch-number lock, so you have to ask a counter person. They told me it was occupied so I waited. While I waited, an elderly lady ignored the lock and breezed right in. I think the lock doesn't work so they tell everyone it's occupied. (My friend was also told it was occupied, when it wasn't.) A number code lock is the worst idea for a public restroom. If they tell people the code, then anyone who knows the code could barge in on someone already inside. If they keep the code a secret, then they become bathroom door attendants, and have to always know if someone is or isn't in the bathroom, and then have to drop whatever they're doing to punch in the code to let someone in. It was totally inconvenient and a bit sleazy. I could never bring out-of-town guests here, which means I won't be going either. read more

The coffee house of the 21st century has gleaming sterile counters and chairs that are ecologically neutral. Caffe Greco? Not exactly but somewhat. Old school wooden chairs and tables, and wood can be grown anew, as in a tree. It does have the aforementioned drinks (love the cappuccino) and good biscotti. After a thrilling game at the Coliseum, got back to the city and had a sudden craving for something sweet. Somehow, the walk from Embarcadero to North Beach on a windy night seemed worth the effort. Once I got there, I was in dessert heaven. Given my love for ricotta cheesecake (different and imo better than the regular cheesecake), I stopped at Caffe Greco for my 50th (or more) visit in a year. Their desserts hit the spot to say the least, and you can never go wrong. Right from the cannoli to the tiramisu to the sacripantina, the desserts are well balanced and delicious. Atmosphere is mellow and gives a taste of what Telegraph Hill/North Beach is like, when you grab one of the tables outside. Café Grecco is an absolute gem! This was my first time trying ricotta cheesecake and I felt like a changed woman! The creamy texture and heavenly flavor left me speechless (I will 100% be on the lookout for ricotta cheesecake on dessert menus). We also indulged in their tiramisu, which was delicious--so creamy and rich! Despite arriving right at closing, the staff was friendly and accommodating (though not that they only take cash). The coffee is arguably the best in the city here. I especially like the latte they prepare. Personally, I am not a big espresso drinker, but more of a drip person. However, I do like lattes and, sometimes, I like americano's as well. This place is a real treat for coffee drinks. I tried their tiramisu once and it was good. The rest of the deserts were nothing special. And gelato was ok. Mostly recommend it for coffee drinks. You are bound to run into lots of tourists here. Holy Cannoli Batman! North Beach was a ghost town last night at 10pm...our quest to end the evening with some sweets and coffee seemed doomed. Luckily Caffe Greco was open and had a great selection of desserts. We ended up sharing a slice of cheesecake and some sort of chocolate/heavenly thing (Kristina R, get yee to Caffe Greco stat) My decaf cappuccino was oh so frothy and went great with the cheesecake. I stopped my here for a cappuccino and a mid afternoon break. The place was not as busy as the place next door but I thought the coffee would be pretty tasty. I was surprised the coffee was kinda on the weak side. The shot was freshly made on the espresso machine, but the guy must have been tired or something. Not grumpy, but not really friendly. It is not easy finding good Tiramisu in the city. This is one of the few places I can say I hesitate before I order dessert. Many of the Tiramisus I have had in SF have either had too much rum or the there is not a good mix of creme and chocolate, so I kinda gave up on ordering them. Gave up until I found Cafe Greco. The combo of coffee and Tiramisu are out of a dream, you can almost imagine you are somewhere in Italy (my idea of a low rent va-ca). read more

One word - great coffee! (Oops, that was two words). They use Illy cafe and that's why. I think they also have a great espresso machine and that's another reason why. Once a month, usually in the middle of the day, I go there for a latte. I think they are the best in the city for coffee. It's not burned, like it is in many places. One of my favorite places for people watching. I always come for the salad with smoked salmon which is delicious but a little pricey. They only accept cash, but there are plenty of ATMs on neighboring streets. CASH ONLY!!! I wanted to grab a coffee, but it didn't work out. A "CASH ONLY" sign always makes me think that the café might be avoiding taxes by not accepting card payments, which ultimately feels like they're being dishonest with both the government and their customers.
