I ordered a 12 oz Iced Honey Oat Milk latte and was disappointed with how the drink came out especially with the price I paid ($6.33 before tip). I asked the cashier before hand if it was possible to make that drink just because not all coffee shops offer or can make that drink, but because she said they could, I went ahead to order! Honey was not incorporated at all into the drink since it was attempted to be whisked in when the drink was already done and cold. Laptop camper here. In a town known for its coffee, Caffe Vita is the best (top bean). Food options (croissants, vegan donuts from Mighty O (really good donuts, try them), bagels with cream cheese or butter, cookies) are limited but they clearly care about their beans. The coffee is roasted on site in a room that you can see from the dining area. They do have pizza night from time to time, otherwise the food is limited to pastries. You can buy coffee beans, coffee and tea accessories and Caffe Vita t-shirts. The décor is somewhat serious with wood walls, framed photographs, and dark lighting. There are plenty of power outlets and plenty of space to enjoy their free wi-fi (including a second level). The second level has a nice view of Pike St., a bookcase, old piano and an old coffee grinder contraption. * Latte: exceptionally smooth and rich with a clean finish, foam art shows skill Brewed some of their beans at home (Caffe Luna blend) and it's the best coffee I've ever personally brewed. This place is rotten on all levels. Don't come here unless you want to be ridiculed to your face while enjoying the most mediocre coffee you can imagine. Came by recently with a friend to get drinks after dinner. My friend and I were having a discussion while ordering, and the baristas (let's call them "Super Unkempt Guy" and "Flustered Dude") decided it would be okay to publicly mock us behind the espresso machine. WE COULD HEAR EVERYTHING. THEY WERE SNARFING AND USING SNIPPETS OF OUR CONVERSATION. (And it wasn't anything juicy - we were talking about Monorail Espresso.) I turned to my friend, "Do you think they're making fun of us?" My friend responded, "I'm not sure..." When we got our drinks (mine was nonfat, hers was soy), my friend's was filled to the top, and mine was at least 2 inches from being full. Who does that?! On top of that, they were lukewarm AT BEST. I took the opportunity to ask Flustered Dude if they made a habit of making fun of customers to their faces. He pretended that he had no idea what we were talking about (all while refusing to make eye contact with me), and I told him that I wasn't deaf and that I thought he was incredibly rude. Super Unkempt Guy had gone back to the register and wasn't paying attention. On my way out, I made sure to shout "This drink tastes like shit." BECAUSE IT DID. BOY, I USED TO THINK STARBUCKS WAS THE SHIT.... Until I tried the coffee from here. Their cup of coffee is perfectly handcrafted with beautiful art from different baristas. You can actually taste the coffee aroma in the latte rushing up your nostril. You know the coffee is good when you don't want to use the lid to cover the beautiful coffee art. I also love the whole vibe here, their tables are just the right size to put your laptop. It's a great place to study and people watch. The music on the lower floors are a little bit loud sometimes, and the restroom has graffiti all over the wall - which gives it character :P All in all, after having their coffee, Startbucks has never tasted as good anymore :( read more

I like coming here for the atmosphere and the location. I've been coming here for years. I do have to say that the quality of coffee here has gone down noticeably over the past year, and the service has gotten a bit complacent. I've experienced several instances where the staff are chatting with themselves while people patiently wait to order. And once recently a customer had a legit complaint and was challenged by the staff member...instead of apologizing and remaking their drink, they were rude and acted put-off. Sometimes places that have a good reputation goes through lulls and rest on their past performance. I have been to Caffe Vita twice now and both times I really enjoyed it! The first time I was here was last spring and it was cold and dark. I needed something warm. We randomly picked this place and went in. I ordered a Hot Chocolate. Yum! That was the best Hot Chocolate I had in a long time! So soothing and relaxing on a cold night. The second time Steve wanted a warm drink and we dove into Caffe Vita once again. We wanted something sweet to eat as well and split a pistachio cookie which rocked! This is my favorite place to grab a cup of coffee in Capitol Hill. But mainly because of the coffee, not really because of much else. The ambiance is dingy and dark, and it's not a great place to sit and enjoy your drink. If I decide to stay there to do work or whatnot, I prefer sitting on the second level. That is one nice thing - there is plenty of places to sit. The service / baristas are okay. Some are nice and helpful, others don't seem to care. Which might be part of the aesthetic. Whatever. I like to come to this place and do nothing. It's the perfect place to do nothing. Grab a cup of mocha, get a seat by the window, and get ready to do nothing. If you must do something though, you can people watch from the second floor or first floor by the big windows. (My favorite seat is by the window on the second floor.) Plenty of interesting folks in Capitol Hills to watch. Or, if you're like me who likes to challenge all her friends to a game of Speed, you can take out a pack of cards when you're with someone and play all day long. Normally I have to add some sugar to my capp, but it had such a great flavor and wasn't bitter at all so no sugar needed! The place is great to meet for a chat, or to study/work. Music is loud enough to drown out the surroundings to make it nice for me to focus on my work (than on others conversations), so if you need a quiet place (especially when studying) I wouldn't recommend. Unless you're near the windows, the lighting is quite dim, so keep that in mind if you're reading. Two floors with plenty of seating, but can get crowded on a weekend. read more

Music playing (MEDIUM LOUD volume), people chatting, and plenty of street noise from outside. The caffe is on Capitol Hill which is an EXCITING NEIGHBORHOOD with plenty going on. There is a park just a block away from the caffe. Unfortunately, be aware, there is quite a LARGE HOMELESS POPULATION. The latte was OK. I personally prefer my lattes a little sweeter and thicker/creamier. Mine WASN'T TOO SWEET and an average consistency. I've had better and worst lattes. Caffe' Vita is consistently good. The lattes are solid complete with foam art served hot the way I like it. I agree the Cap Hill attitude is strong here with some but really not too bad. The lines move quickly with precision at yet another busy Seattle coffee house.. A few outdoor seats and 2 rooms in which to enjoy, upstairs and downstairs. I like the upstairs seating although the students seem to own it. I come here with friends and we do research and/or "gasp" hold a conversation. I wish students realized this is not just a study room per say it is also a buzzing coffee shop with conversation, coffee, life and music. A seemingly simple latte that turned up the start of my vacation up about 10 notches. Straight forward coffee with offerings of tea and Italian soda are sprawled out on the menu. Service... yeah they could probably improve on that a bit. Not the friendliest invitation upon walking through the door but they slowly warmed up throughout the minute interaction. I feel a little uncomfortable dissing this place revered by so many others, but it's a bit too gothic for my tastes. MYbe because Bauhaus was playing in the background like elevator music? I kinda like my barista who made a great cappuccino. The coffee is excellent and experience went into its preparation. But in pretty sure my barista is a future. I ordered a drip coffee (I know, I'm boring) and the people at the counter were overall pleasant. The coffee was okay but I've had better nearby. Not sure what it was, but it had a slight taste that made me go hmm. Unfortunately I forgot to ask if they offer free refills or not. While I don't think this is going to be my new "go to" spot I'll for sure be back. I desperately needed a pick-me-up before a 5:00PM meeting in Capitol Hill, and as the 5th Avenue location had already treated me well, I decided to stop into this Caffe Vita. I'm a megafan of the location and building. There's seating outside, there's seating on the first floor in front of the roasting room (there's a big window for the curious), and there's seating on the second floor, with open windows and views of the street. What's more, wifi abounds! The baristas were attentive and efficient. I ordered the Kyoto cold brew, derived from the ancient Japanese art of making some badass beverages from beans, and I could not have asked for a more perfect treat. I would not describe this as an iced coffee at all. It actually comes in a small glass (6 oz? 8 oz? I'm horrible with volumes), but the amount is just right. The flavors were plentiful and complex, and they lingered. The coffee was strong without the liquid itself being syrupy; as a matter of fact, I would describe the drink as "crisp" and an excellent tonic.
