My coffee-loving coworkers have been raving about this place, but since I knew the prices here are higher than other cafes in the same area I've been avoiding it. This morning I bit the bullet and you know what? Big whoop. Maybe I'm biased because the last latte I had was from San Francisco's Blue Bottle (my latte mecca), but there was nothing inherently different (save the price) about the soy latte I got this morning when compared to Ladro or Uptown. It was certainly good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get here. This cafe epitomizes all that a proper cafe should be. I don't drink coffee, but my husband claims that he's had the best latte ever at Zingaro. He's picky about espresso being over extracted, but he says that they pulled the espresso perfectly. (Not only that, but they added a very pretty design to the top of his latte.) I'm more of a tea person myself and generally get a pot of tea when I visit. The pastries are delicious and my son claims that the turkey sandwich there is one of his favorites. The staff has always been very friendly when I've visited. There is short term parking for the cafe on the west side of the building. And the cafe is located only a block or so from Seattle Center, making it a convenient location if you're in the area for a performance or other event. read more

Ordered a latte and chai tea latte and the service was okay. The latte was average and the chai tea latte was EXTREMELY watered down. There are many more other places I would grab coffee that does not include this place. read more

The only coffee I'll drink in my neighborhood (lower Queen Anne) Lattes always have gorgeous foam art. Baked goods are great, I don't have a gluten free lifestyle, but I love the date macaroons. Espresso shortbread is also great, it has a nice salty contrast to the sweet and coffee flavors. read more

We went on a Saturday. Hands down the worst coffee ever... I had a macchiato and Barista didn't pull a fresh shot OR steam fresh milk--he just poured an old stale one into a cup. Foam was just a cold dollop on top and was completely separated from the espresso... Terrible! My girlfriend got a cappuccino and he at least gave her a fresh milk & espresso and attempted latte art. I *heart* sweet desserts, add sweet coffee to that and Caffe Zingaro is my favorite post-dinner, dessert date stop. Other coffee shops' imported desserts leave me wanting (*cough* Caffe Ladro *cough* Tullys *cough* Starbucks) and Caffe Zingaro's got the best looking mini-cakes: raspberry mousses, chocolate mousse cakes, cheesecakes, etc. etc. It reminded me of the late night sweet dessert shops from back home in Miami. I'm really surprised there aren't more late-night dessert-related shops in Seattle. On a quiet Friday night, my BF and I lingered over their deliciously decadent, melt in your mouth cheesecake with raspberry drizzle. Drool. It was worth every penny (as long as you share!). Its a small coffeehouse ambiance, parking is scarce, and the place shuts down way early on the weekdays (8pm?!) but if you are aching for sweets, coffee, late night, this ain't a bad place to start. read more

This place is great to hang out. It has free wi-fi for all its customers. It's usually not too busy or loud; some people like to do their work there. They have several fancy kinds of tea that's worth trying out. Their desserts also look pretty good. I've had a carrot cake and a coconut cake, and they both were tasty. If you don't want to stay home but have no idea of where to hang out, perhaps you can visit this nice place easily for a long period of time. read more

STORYTIME (context): Some parts of Seattle are bursting with great, small-business coffee shops. I've found a couple in Pioneer Square, they're all over the U-District, and you can't spit in Capitol Hill without it landing in a great cup of espresso. My father moved to lower Queen Anne from my family's home in Denver a few months ago, and in the course of visiting him I had all but given up on great coffee. I'll grant that I didn't look very hard, mostly due to taking his word for it -- he took me to Uptown shortly after his moving date, raving about how great their coffee was, but his judgment was clouded by having moved from a city where people drive five miles just to get to a Starbucks. It was good, but not /that/ good. Walking back to my car from the Seattle Center, I passed by Caffe Zingaro, which graciously redeemed the neighborhood for me. REVIEW TIME: My initial judgment of a coffee house is ordering my usual (a triple-tall latte) and some of their baked goods. Zingaro passed on both counts -- the muffin I got was certainly above-average on my coffehouse pastry list, and my drink went down awfully smoothly for having three shots in it. The service was great -- our barista was really friendly and laid-back, and an excellent conversationalist. It was notably uncrowded, which in my experience is a regular thing. There's plenty of tables and even some nice sofas for seating, and it's just quiet enough for me to get some good work done there. Also, unlike a lot of coffee shops in the area, their 12oz espresso drinks default to two shots, rather than having to pay extra for the double you so rightfully deserve. That is one of those simple pleasures you take for granted, but I appreciate it. On the grand scheme of the greater Seattle area, this would perhaps only rate four stars, but I'm giving it five in comparison to the rest of the area -- in my experience, this is the best you're gonna get without having to commute. read more

An interesting first experience to say the least. We just moved next door to this cafe and thought we'd give it a try. I was meeting some friends here at Caffe Zingaro. When I arrived, I walked into a full house that was oddly and somewhat uncomfortably quiet. It was just a strange feeling for a bustling part of town. Anywho, as I was coming in through the door I was surprised to see two baristas reprimanding one of my friends while he was sitting at his seat. Why in the world would they approach him at his seat? It didn't take long to find out since it was so quiet in the room. All you can hear is one of the gals going on about heating up his croissant in the microwave that was at the edge of their counter. Poor guy. The area was very poorly marked and it was a normal household microwave, nothing professional. Anyone could have mistaken it for normal patron usage. To make matters worse I was a customer waiting at the counter to order and none of the staff was paying any attention to me while this was happening. Yet, their they were instead going out of there way to publicly embarrass my friend for using their microwave to heat up his croissant. Come on gals, really? Let it go. There is no need to reprimand someone for that. Especially given the fact it wasn't clearly marked. Also, he apologized immediately so why make a spectacle out of it with everyone watching just to make your point about not using it again, seriously? Show a little thoughtfulness. As of right now I'm literally writing this review in the actual establishment. The two baristas are in the corner, sharing the same table with what looks like another patron. Oh wait now they're both heading outside to have a cigarette with the patron. Ok, maybe this is some-kind of locals joint where no one cares about newcomers, even new locals that have moved into the neighborhood. What ever the case, like I said this was a very interesting first experience. I really hope neither of these girls is a manager or god forbid an owner. If the owner of this establishment reads this review I hope there is some attention given to better training the staff in hospitality. For now, this establishment is a 0 in my book. Since I live in the neighborhood, I'll probably give it another chance in the future. Hopefully the experience will be better. read more

The first time I stepped foot into this place was before I lived in Seattle. I'll never forget the 'Chocolate peanut butter heart attack' dessert not only because it was amazing but for the name itself. Now that I live nearby, I pop in once in awhile and find the service, coffee and dessert to be consistent. All in all it has always been a good experience and these days, that says a lot. Caffe Zingaro is a great place near the Seattle Center that has coffee, tea and delectables! An excellent place to cool off on a hot sunny day or even sit by the big windows and watch cars splash by in the rain. I had a great glass of Vanilla Rubios iced tea. This is my coffee place of choice in Lower Queen Anne (with Caffe Vita as my second choice). The espresso drinks are very good, and it's a comfy place to sit and read. Sometimes I don't feel like having coffee, and I'm disappointed when the tea offerings at coffee shops consists of a chai latte and a few tea bags. It's not the case here! They've got a big list of great loose leaf teas, and you can get a pot of tea for about the same as a latte. read more

This is where I usually stop for a last coffee on the way to the opera and they serve up a rather nice caffe latte. They may not be worthy of a trip from the Eastside just in themselves but if you're anyway in the area (lower Queen Anne, near Key Arena, McCaw Hall and the theaters), this is a fine pit stop for replenishing your caffeine. read more

Driving a school bus on a cold and rainy fall day, there was a break in the weather and I was looking for something to warm me up while waiting for my group to return! I stepped into Caffe Zingaro and was greated right away. I ordered a small hot chocolate and a oatmeal cookie! The hot chocolate was of course with whip. It had very good flavor and the whip was thick and tasty. It was warming to my fingers and my tummy as it slid down my throat! The oatmeal cookie was crisp on the outside but soft on the inside! It had very good flavor and I would try that or another treat next time I go back! Being a school bus driver, we go to Seattle a lot!! Came here to get work done though and the darkness of the interior (black paint) and the playlist (new age, alt., emo punk rock) made it really gloomy and dull. Thank goodness it was sunny but on a regular cloudy Seattle day, might not be the upbeat place to smash work out. Wifi wasn't that great either. Stopped in with my wife for a drink and pastry on a warm January afternoon. I had a Caffe Zingaro (their house latte with chocolate and caramel) made w/ soy milk; she, a London Fog. Very good. I ended up heading back the following morning to get another fix. I'm not sure if the (delicious) pastries are baked in-house, but the baristas definitely were (hey-oh!). Holy moly, I literally just had the most delicious latte of my life. I got the Nutella Latte iced, and it was absolutely amazing. Coffee to sweet ratio was perfect, and I'm pretty sure I slurped it down in record time. It's a little on the pricey side for the size you get, but well worth the cost if you like good coffee like myself. The barista had a bit of an attitude, but I still liked my quick visit to this place. The music (no lyrics, not quite classic, not quite jazz, not quite electronica, but somehow a mix of all three) was more conducive to getting some school work done than the usual distracting & loud heavy metal/rock/pop that I've encountered at several local shops. Plenty of outlets & places to sit, though this place is small. Prices are average for Seattle and coffee was decent. The pastry case had some tempting items that may seduce me on a future visit. I'll come back & just hope for a more pleasant barista. My only true complaint is they close early at 8pm on weekdays; it'd be nice if they were open until at least 11pm, but I'll just have to find a place that is for those nights that I have a lot of work. read more

Love love this place!! There coffee and chai is amazing! So refreshing to find a coffee shop that is not like every other cookie cutter type here in Starbucks land which has the worst coffee ever (they now concentrate more on quantity than quality) The deserts are wonderful the coconut cake is to die for and I love the macaroons.. The customer service here is pretty good as well as the atmosphere but the coffee is just awful. I ordered a soy chai tea latte and it tasted like water and cinnamon. There was no chai flavor or even milk flavor. They also just dumped a crap ton OF cinnamon and nutmeg on the top to give it the chai spirit flavor. It was five dollars for the 12 oz drink that was undrinkable. Really tragic waste of money. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because their East coast sandwich was very good.
