This won't be short but here is what happened. I purchased a birthday cake from her for my daughter and it didn't make the ride home. It cracked and fell apart completely as shown in the pictures. The next day was a holiday weekend and she told me she would not be working. So I figured I would talk to her when I returned a tote she loaned me. When I went in I explained the situation and showed her the pictures. She had several customers in her shop when she asked me if we had tried to eat it. I had thought she was a nice person and hadn't gone in there to insult her so I didn't even mention that we had thought about trying to salvage it so cut a slice and it tasted horrible. There was so much powdered sugar that the favor was bitter. Not only that it was a carrot cake and there were no visible carrots, raisins, or nuts. She asked me to wait until the customers left, I said sure and sat down off to the side. Once every one was gone she immediately started yelling about how I should have called her sooner. She said because of this she would only refund half. I had approached her nicely and wasn't angry at all so I asked her why she was yelling and she said she was frustrated with me not calling her that night even though it was a holiday and my daughter's party was the next morning. She said that she would have made another cake at 7:30 pm that night and driven it an hour to our house. I wasn't really opposed to taking half but I didn't like the way she was trying to bully and scare me so I told her I would have to leave a review. She instantly said that she would offer me nothing in that case, she just kept screaming and waving her arms, getting more and more out of control. I was feeling uncomfortable and said maybe I should call the police. She was more upset about that and I explained I only said it in hopes that she would calm down. She however insisted on calling the police and I left the shop to wait. It seemed like a long time and the police didn't come so I walked up to see if I should keep waiting. She told me she would still give me half if I would sign a paper that she had written out a statement on. She was out of control again and said that was absolutely the only way I could get even a partial refund. I wanted to go home but wasn't sure if this was kosher with the police on the way. At this point because of her volitile behavior I was filming her. I thought she had some deep issues and wanted the protection. Wanting it to be over and knowing that her behavior was off I told her I would sign whatever she wanted. She kept yelling about lawyers and asking about my phone. We stepped inside and I waited for the paper. She came up to the counter and said "you keep doing this. Who are you talking to? What are you doing?" At this point she smacked my hand and my phone fell. For the first time I yelled back. I said "hey" and told her I was filmimg her and why. She shreiked "You are not filming me, you are not" I picked up my phone and went back outside. The police did come eventually. They told me she is just sensitive and I was technically not allowed to film on private property. They said that since I was not seriously injured there was nothing to do. They said that she told them she would offer half if I would sign her statement. The police seemed to think I should go with them back into the shop and accept a partial refund. She was going to get the paper again when she raised her voice to the police and waived her arms around saying "I want to know what she's doing with that video first. I want to know". I said I wasn't sure. The police officers asked her to calm down and then asked me if I would be keeping or deleting it. I said that I planned to keep it. She then said that she would not refund any portion of the purchase and finally I went home.

They sell a variety of pot pies, lasagnas, noodle dishes, breakfast casseroles and fruit pies. The pies are beautiful with preparing instructions on the package. I bought a Spinach-Feta Quiche, which was absolutely delicious. The small pie easily served four and was decently priced at $13. The clerk was probably the friendliest person that I ever met. She took time with each customer, smiled, thank them for purchased and packaged the frozen meals carefully. She let us know where to purchase the pies after the market closed for the season. I can't wait to try other meals. The pies/casseroles make a great gift for someone homebound.

When you are ready for a no stress great meal, you preheat your oven and stick the casserole /pot pie in and cook it per instructions on the foil top. I just made the Sweet Corn and Chicken casserole last night and was pleased with the results. Yummy. Plenty leftover for lunch tomorrow. I have heard tell that the Allisonville location is very convenient for those on the northeast side.

There are about ten tables and a comfy leather sofa. A shelf with children's books stands near the sofa. A huge mural of Kirklin in early years covers one wall. Evan, our server, was super friendly, welcoming and attentive. We ordered two kolaches. He told us that his mom, Tina, makes the kolaches and pastries and they sell like hot cakes. We took a seat, while he heated our little pies. The kolaches came out super hot and hearty. I loved mine filled with egg, bacon and potatoes. My husband's was filled with a sausage and cheese and made a perfect little breakfast. The coffee is locally roasted. There was a steady stream of patrons stopping for coffee to go. The shop will be moving across the street in Kirklin this week to a larger venue. Evan told us that on Sunday's they serve lunch from 11-2:00 pm. There is generally only one item on the Sunday lunch menu. There is street parking in front of the shop. I highly recommend a visit to this special little shop. They make you feel like family.

With four days off recently, I finally had the chance to check out the Nora location of Rise 'n…read moreRoll, a Middlebury, Indiana based mini-chain that has its roots in northeast Indiana's Shipshewana before "officially" opening in Middlebury in 2004. The roots are truly Amish - Rise 'n Roll was started by an Amish couple in a bakery that didn't use electricity, refrigeration, or modern technology. In 2009, however, that couple sold the bakery to a non-Amish couple that has worked to maintain its roots while also adding some updates (including franchising). The original owner stayed on! I was a little surprised when the Broad Ripple location, though it never quite felt like a Rise 'n Roll. Having been to the Middlebury spot on multiple occasions, Broad Ripple just felt like "too much" to me. This spot, while still nice, is a humbler location that still maintains the quality. I've never been completely fond of this strip center. It's not particularly wheelchair friendly (yes, there's a curb-cut, however, accessible parking is wonky at best). However, once inside all is forgiven. This spot opened in late 2023. While it's known for its donuts, you can also get other pastries, popcorn, and other Amish items. At this point, Rise 'n Roll has about 15 locations statewide with four in Central Indiana (Nora, Fishers, Greenwood, Westfield). Avon recently closed. As most people are told by bakery fans and employees, their real signature donut would be the cinnamon caramel donut It's a pretty remarkable donut, though I tend to go for either cinnamon rolls, traditional yeast, and occasionally something chocolate iced. I find the employees friendly, the atmosphere clean and welcoming, and the prices definitely fair. They have fundraising opportunities and it's definitely one of my favorite bakeries - it's better, at least for me, knowing that it's also one of Indiana's own.
