I am never usually in this part of town but today was the exception. Not in the greatest neck of the woods but seemed safe enough at lunch time. Upon entering you view the large menu board, place your order, you pay and it is brought to your table. Pretty efficient. First thing I noticed were the prices. Most of the lunch portions were under $ 9.00. I ordered a cup of seafood gumbo for $ 3.95 and the fried shrimp+catfish lunch plate for $ 8.25. Cheap price for a cup of gumbo loaded with 5 shrimp, 3 oysters and pieces of real crabmeat. Only thing wrong with the gumbo was the roux. It was dark enough and looked good but had a weird sweet taste. Never had a roux like this before. I was able to doctor it up with some Tabasco and half a shaker of black pepper. Now it was much better. The shrimp+catfish platter had one large fried catfish fillet and 4 butterflied fried shrimp. The catfish was cooked perfectly as were the shrimp. This plate was really good. The fried shrimp were not as good as my # 1 fried shrimp (Christie's) but they were in my Top 5. My choice for the included side was cole slaw. This was, well, shredded cabbage with a hint of mayo. Dry as hell but a rabbit probably would have been happy. All in all a great little no-frills place with a large menu selection at great prices. Even the dinner prices were only slightly over $ 10.00. It really deserves 3.5 stars losing points only for the weird tasting roux and side of cabbage - I mean cole slaw. Counter guy was helpful and friendly. First time here, ordered through the phone for pickup. I ordered the chicken strips, but they gave me the fried fish lunch. They gave me the wrong order. I don't like fish, but since I only had 30 minutes left for lunch I couldn't turn around and exchange it so I tried it. The fish and the fries were dry. Definitely not coming back. read more

This was good. I had the catfish and chicken and it was very good. I had a choice between fries and rice and I went with the rice which was also good. Big portions for lunch (One piece of catfish and three chicken strips a long with a whole plate of rice) and a good price. I am not a huge fan of fried foods, but this was good. This is a great little hole in the wall type restaurant. The food is very tasty but the atmosphere is like a hole in the wall. It is clean and has a friendly staff. The food is about half the cost of Pappadeaux and just as tasty. If you love cajun food and don't care about the atmosphere you need to check out Cajuntown. read more

Great seafood for the price. I always go with the stuffed shrimp. Huge and amazing for only $10. Second choice is the grilled snapper with #3 sauce on top and dirty rice. Unbelievable. Food was served fast and fresh. They give you a generous portion, usually more than you'd get a high chain restaurant such as Pappadeaux's or Babins, for a fraction of the cost. The gumbo is awesome (5 stars), the salad is (3) stars. I had a vinegarette. It was nothing like i hoped. Averaged it out, so 4 stars.

After hearing about Cajun Town from a few friends, we decided to give it a try and we're glad we did! The restaurant sort of looks like a hole in the wall. It's clean, dimly lit and sparsely decorated. There's a big overhead menu at the counter and a big posted sign that reads something to the effect of "Check your order before you leave, we will not make any changes!" The grilled and blackened fish dishes are just as good, if not better than Pappadeaux or Boudreaux but cheaper at $10-$13 with a sauce (my husband likes the monterrey jack sauce). We've had the grilled tilapia and salmon, both were great! The shrimp etoufee was good (a bit heavy on tomatoes) and not overly spicy. The fried shrimp and fish are also not bad choices but I would definitely stay away from the boudain. If you like rice, this is your place--just about every dish comes with a hearty serving of it. Buttered french bread also accompanies the non-fried entrees. Overall, if you want great seafood at a good price and don't mind the lack of ambiance, Cajun Town is a good choice. read more

With this being my first time going to Cajun Town. I was not at all impressed. The food was bad and let's not mention the small portions that I received. The service was horrible. They need not worry, I will never return to their establishment again. I only went there on the recommendation of a friend. Apparently we have different taste. First time I went was Friday for lunch and it was dreamy!!! I had grilled fish with sauce topping that had craw fish and crab and a side of cajun rice. Mind you I live in Katy and i went back Saturday with my husband and a few friends and they craw fish for $4.95 a pound and everywhere else is like $7.00-8.00 a pound and the craw fish was probably the best i has so far this season. The food here is excellent. A friend of mines recommended it. I can honestly say the food id just as good as other large chain popular Cajun restraunts for almost 1/2 the price. We go there rather than the other larger chains. I prefer going in the day time as the neighborhood is....well....lets just say its not the best neighborhood. I always get the Blackened Chicken with Dirty Rice when i go here. It's really good and huge portions! My buddy that comes with me always gets the popcorn shrimp w/fries and loves it. This place is DISGUSTING! First off, for being a "Cajun" cafe, there is not one Cajun working there. That is not to say other cultures can't cook Cajun food, but these people do NOT know what they are doing. Over the years I have given it another shot and yesterday was the last straw. I had the shrimp etoufee and the cajun pasta. I'm pretty sure the etoufee "sauce" was out of some cheap jar. To make matters worse, I found something in there that resembled a part of a baby octopus. I am Cajun and grew up on etoufee and this did not even resemble the real stuff much less anything edible. Both dishes were swimming in grease and over-priced. The last time I was there I ordered the gumbo which was some thin brown gravy-like stuff. Gumbo is NOT just brown, tasteless gravy! I called ahead to make sure they had the special Shrimp Brochette because on THREE previous trips they were out, once as early as 4 p.m. on Saturday. I was there by 7 p.m. and ordered, they now have you sit down and a server takes your order. About five minutes later she comes back and says they just sold the last one and brings me a menu and starts pointing at the fried food. If she hadn't already brought my drink I would have left. I ordered the fried shrimp and it took forever even though the place was not that busy. Most of the servers were behind the counter chatting, the fries were terrible and the shrimp OK. I asked them to change the TV to the ALCS game - never happened. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. SLOW SERVICE, not that great food and crappy TV show. In all fairness I have had good service and food here before but just the last few times I tried it has been a horrible experience. I will probably not try again and pass the word. read more
