Strawberry pop pastry and the crème brûlée donut!
    colleen w.

I've been a Cake Thieves fan since they supplied their donuts for The Fairview years and years ago. They have been consistently amazing all of these years! I get so happy seeing their pop pastries in coffee shops around town and other offerings. I finally got to come back to their brick and mortar and I just wanted to leave a review! Their strawberry pop pastry was yummy as always but my husband got their crème brûlée donut and that was AMAZING! I was honestly a little mad at myself for not getting one for just myself lol. Their donuts have always been great but that one in particular was crazy good. Cake Thieves forever!!

These are by far the best vegan donuts I've ever had! This was my first time at Cake Thieves. Service was welcoming and gave me some great recommendations. My donuts and scone were fresh and absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be back for more!

Lemon Blueberry scone & Orange Cranberry scone are to die for!!!

All I can say is if you've not been by Cake Thieves Bakery by now you are doing your tastebuds & belly a serious injustice! And she on you! I've been coming here since shortly after they opened. (Since I had purple hair. ) I tried her lavender scones, & I was hooked. I've tried so many of her goodies since then over the years, but I always come back for the scones. Being a baker myself I'm harsh on bakeries. They have not ever, not one time, disappointed my taste buds. The fact that they are vegan I really questioned whether I would like the food. The first bite, I questioned why I ever ate any other. Her baked goods are not only fresh & perfectly baked, but they aren't ever dry or hard. I'll be honest, being single I can't always eat everything I but the first day. Sometimes what I purchase will wait a day or three!!! In the fridge for me to consume it. I pop it in the microwave or oven for a bit & it's still wonderfully good. I haven't ever been disappointed with the taste or quality of the product. But, right out od the store is best. And the scones rarely make it past the corner. #iykyk That lemon blueberry scone made it to IH35 before it was devoured! It was baked to perfection. Moist, the blueberries were plump & the lemon taste was spot on. The first bite of the orange cranberry scone was also perfect. You can taste the orange without it being over powering & the cranberries are sprinkled throughout with perfection. With the scones I ate back in London & Wales I always wanted butter with Cake Thieves scones no time! I just eat them because they are perfect. I truly cannot stop recommending this bakery to everyone I talk to & have for years. The muffins are baked amazingly, the cookies are so good they'll leave you wanting more, and those pop tart like pastries - those are my other go to goodies!!!! Try them all!!!! The bakery is a great place to go in, sit down have a cup of their delicious coffee & just enjoy the ambiance. Enjoy!

Get the kolaches -- they're hands down the best and clearly a crowd favorite! Make sure to get there early because they do sell out, and trust me, you don't want to miss out. Their pop tarts are also great. I'm a big fan of the mixed berry flavor, but honestly, it's all about the kolaches, don't sleep on this spot!

After picking up some treats from Cake Thieves; I had to hop on and share how impressed I was with the quality of their baked goods. I was blown away with how beautiful the treats looked and was even more impressed with freshness and taste! I will absolutely be back. Highly recommend! You won't be disappointed. As if that wasn't enough; the service was spectacular! Thank you for an amazing experience!

I have not written a review in years for personal reasons, yet in kind I cannot keep myself from bragging about Cake Thieves; The "Bright Magic" of San Antonio's Bakeries, including Coffee & Tea. Their doughnuts have stood out for years putting others respectfully on notice, their Homer representing the fluffiest of all confections, and their seasonal creations warming your heart and soul throughout your day. Be sure to tip well, as the service from the back of the house to the front will leave you looking forward to returning again and again. Moreover, the decor and ambience will welcome you with delight and dazzle you with each holiday and season, believing in true magic from entrance to order to each sweet morsel to a comforting salutation, "have a nice day". Equally healthy, you can look forward to a few delicious breakfast tacos if you're fast enough, or if you're lucky Gluten-Free baseRice Crispy Treats.

Cake Thieves! I don't know if they're stealing cake, but they've stolen my heart. I swung by on my way home one morning and was amazed at all the non cake options. Pie tarts, kolaches, scones, muffins, donuts, pound cake, and on... oh my! I eventually decided on a sampling of a homer donut (simple pink frosting and sprinkles), blueberry streusel muffin, and pineapple peach pie tart to bring home. I don't think prices for pastries are posted, but it's been about $5/treat. Everything was delicious! I came back the next morning with a friend to co-work and Sam was so nice! She checked in on us and made sure we had coffee/tea as needed. It was a warm and welcoming place to be, and judging by the friendly chatter, a lot of people coming in were regulars. Since then I've been back for more treats to go! Some of my favorites have been the pineapple peach tart, blueberry muffin, lemon scone - so tender and not dry at all!, The jalapeno cheddar kolache was also incredible - they use the same dough as their croissant and it is soo good! Oh yeah, and it's all vegan! Good for the planet and good for the soul.

When they asked me how my day was going and I was honest (but vague), they commiserated! Such nice people. Great vibes here. I had the strawberry matcha (good) and the lime coconut cake (phenomenal). When I told the staff I was on my way to deliver something to someone in need, they gave me a free donut for that person!

Great local bake shop. They offer vegan and vegetarian pastries and are packed with a rich flavor. The blueberry pop tart was a great take on a nostalgic pastry. Of course you can trust everything In this and expect is to be that much better.

Cake Thieves is tucked in a small shopping center directly next to black lab brewery. Since they are only open until 4pm, parking shouldn't be an issue. I've had a variety of different pastries from here and all have been great. Specifically, I've had a few of their Poptarts, banana donuts & lemon fog scone. They have something for everyone so I'm sure you can find something you'll enjoy. Each visit I've always felt very welcomed by their staff, which provides a great customer-centric environment. Also, they have offered great recommendations to me when I can't decide what to order. I usually take my pastries to go but I noticed there are a few tables inside in case you want to enjoy your food at this establishment. I'll definitely be back to try something different. Peace.

They were nice enough to warm the cookie for me, and it had that "fresh out of the oven" smell and gooeyness. They asked me if I wanted my drinks for here or to-go and I said for here and they still served me in to-go cups, which I thought was weird. The cortado was not my favorite. It was bitter and acidic and the foam was looking a little yeasty. The mocha latte also had very little flavor to it, tasting like hot milk. I had difficulty finishing both drinks. Later I noticed they were using What's Brewing beans, and it made sense. I know many folks love WB? coffee beans, as it's a bit of a local darling, but more often than not I don't enjoy cortados made with their beans. Dirty dishes and cutlery sat on a couple of tables long after folks had left. I don't want to make assumptions, because there WAS a designated staff member for cleaning/wiping things down, but maybe those two evaded her. There's a sign on the wall that says, "I'm not for everyone," and boy are they right. They also stopped playing one of my favorite Radiohead songs (right in the middle of it!) to play Teenage Dream by Katy Perry. Now while I'm not deducting stars for THAT (because that's just downright petty), I can't help but feel unimpressed by my most recent visit. At least the cookie was delicious. Perhaps a third visit is in order. As they say, third time's a charm, right?

I've always had a great experience at Local Coffee Founders at The Pearl. Their cold brew is a reliable thirst quenching caffeinated option if you're in the area, and they offer all of the coffee shop staples you'd expect. During peak hours, this isn't the coffee shop I'd come to for relaxation or to get some work done on my laptop, the interior is small, seating is limited, and the ambient noise is louder than you'll find in other places. They're dog friendly, but I would recommend going with someone that can wait outside while you order or vice versa. Service has always been fairly good, but you'll definitely want to listen closely for them to announce your order is ready. There's ample seating outside in the adjacent courtyard and The Pearl District in general. I like to get coffee here when I'm already in the area, especially during the weekend markets, but this isn't the place I'd come to get coffee otherwise. As with most businesses at The Pearl you're going to be paying a comparative premium to the cost of similar goods elsewhere. Things worth knowing ahead of time: Ample parking at The Pearl, cost varies based on the time and day of the week though. I believe it's still free weekdays before 3pm, and always free for the first 30 minutes. Expect to walk a bit regardless of where you park, as there is no parking directly adjacent to the cafe.

I haven't been to a CIA restaurant since I went to the one in Napa many years ago. We arrived around noon and were seated immediately as not many people were dining there except for a party of about 8 people in one table and 2 people in a bar top table in the other room by the pastries. A couple of people came in to buy pastries to go. Kiana was our student server and explained the concept. They're only open from February til April for that particular semester and in August for another semester with students operating both front and back of house in the kitchen. The proceeds from the restaurant sales goes towards the Students' Graduating Fund to help with the costs of schooling. The students can experience serving customers and cooking. The chef has a Basque background so his menu is French-Spanish inspired according to Kiana. My friend and I thought this was a great cause! We perused the menu but I zeroed into the Queen Vol Au Vent because it reminded me of the Chicken A La King in Pastry Shells dish I used to make when we used to have big family Christmas parties. I wanted to see their version. I asked Kiana what the pastry shells were filled with since the menu says it's filled with the "Chef's choice Velouté" and she said chicken and mushrooms in a cream sauce. Perfect! My friend got the Egg Croissant & Petit Salade with a side of Bacon & Home Fries. While they were preparing our dishes, I walked up to the pastry case to see what they had to offer. They had cookies, Raisin Bread rolls, Conchas, Manchego & Sausage Scone, Alfajor Dulce de Leche, a Passion Chocolate dessert, fruit tarts, Napoleon, Baguettes and some bagged items: Palmiers, Chocolate coated Nuts and Toffee. I asked one of the chefs how much the bag of Toffee cost and she said $3.80 so I said I'll buy a bag. My friend was curious to see what they had so she also picked up a bag of Toffee. My friend also ordered a cup of brewed coffee. Our dishes came and I noticed how huge my friend's Egg Croissant looked! It was nicely laminated and the egg filling looked nice and creamy. The bacon was thickly sliced and my friend said there was a slight sweetness, perhaps maple? She gave me a piece and it was pretty tasty, meaty and wasn't greasy, nor salty. My Queen Vol Au Vent wasn't quite as big as I thought it would be but the chicken filling was ample. The Petit Salade on the side were just dry greens and wasn't a very big portion either. It could've used more dressing as it was lacking moisture. Perhaps some sliced Heirloom Cherry tomatoes would've been nice to accompany the dry pastry shell Vol Au Vent dish and add a pop of color too. When we were paying our bill, Kiana said the bagged Toffees were on the House since they just opened so we were pleasantly surprised and thankful! Another server asked my friend if she'd like more coffee or if she'd like it in a to-go cup so she took that option. I noticed the students were clearing out the pastries and bread so I asked Kiana what they did with the excess, unsold pastries? She said they take inventory, donate or throw them away except for the bread which is frozen and sold the next day. We told her we hoped it was given away since they're perfectly fine and for a good cause. There was an instructor's birthday today so the students and staff sang "Happy Birthday" by the kitchen. That was nice. We paid our bills and before leaving I used the co-ed restroom which was very clean and spacious. We sat outside so they could buss our tables and we continued talking outside. Can't wait to come back again before the semester ends!

Although it is small, it's well-designed and well-laid out. The staff is really sweet and patient if it's your first time visiting. The breakfast croissant sandwich is the perfect amount of food, not to mention a well-balanced meal. The lamination is just proper- a buttery, flaky crunch. If you plan on getting goodies from the bakery, they can take your dine-in check and adjust the price to add those items. The variety can be a bit overwhelming but trust your gut. There's nothing terrible, since the quality of the ingredients and technique were on point. My favorite was the white chocolate pretzel cookie, so I'd like to return and try the other flavors. I love that a portion of your bill also funds the scholarship program, which makes you feel good about the entire experience.
