Honestly, I was very surprised when I visited this little shop in La Cañada. Most dessert places in LA have great reviews but their cakes are stiff and not pleasant. I had their Black Forest cake and it was absolutely delicious and perfect and reminds of my childhood. I was also able to try some of their tarts, rolls, cupcakes, and loafs; all of which held up fantastically during the week and were a delicious pleasure to eat. I cannot recommend this place enough. They remind me of the viral vanilla berry cake from Whole Foods only 10x better. I'm not sure how they did it but this cake melts in your mouth. From someone who throws events and parties all the time and has used this Cakery bakery for decades as the beloved LCF town bakery, this place is definitely not the same and has really gone downhill in terms of pricing, service and quality since changing ownership several years ago. I gave it several chances after the change in ownership but will not be returning here. The service is inattentive, impersonal and they nickel and dime for the tiny minuscule things even on big catering party orders with repeat customers. My last large cupcake order was so unimpressive in taste and appearance, I regret not just going to pick up the ready made cupcakes from Ralph's supermarket because that is what it looked like. I've been wanting to write this review for a while but I'm finally getting around to doing so. I've used this bakery twice. Once for my gender reveal cake last year and again for my SIL's gender reveal cake. I spoke to one of the ladies on the phone and explained what I wanted and she rushed me on the phone and didn't care to listen to what I was asking for. I even emailed them what I wanted written on my cake and they still managed to spell the month June wrong. When I went to pick up my cake, they wrote Jun instead of June. When I told her, she said I could fix it with a sharpie!? Excuse me? I said no you need to re print it for me because it was edible paper as I wanted a burn cake. She reluctantly went to the back and re printed it for me. For my sister in law, again I spoke to one of the ladies on the phone and explained in detail what I wanted and even wrote it in the email. When my SIL went to pick up the cake, they forgot to add the pearls on it. I even paid extra for the pearls. So she had to wait while they added that. And they didn't care enough to write " it's a boy" , they just wrote "boy". Who does that? I had written in writing to write it's a boy. Also, somehow my cake was $80 and my SIL cake was $180 only 6 months later and both were for 10-12 people. Their cakes are really delicious I must say. The blue Bavarian was delicious. However, they're very unprofessional when speaking on the phone and clearly they can't follow instructions nor can they spell a simple word correctly. I considered using them again for my son's first bday next month but not worth it to constantly worry if my cake is going to be correct or if something is going to go wrong again . OMG! What an amazing bakery! I did a Too Good To Go $9.99 thing and they gave me a whole chocolate cake and 3 mini cupcakes for a cast party, it was out of this world yummy!
