An average place (even in India, so that's good!) I ordered chicken tikka sandwich and egg puff. The egg puff is nice, although the puff pastry tastes a bit bland and old! There is half egg inside (like deviled), but missing the yolk! Kind of strange! The chicken tikka comes with potato chips (my suggestion to skip things from store bought, either give fries, or don't give nothing). The chicken tikka is a bit dry, the bread is toasted and grill marked, although not cut it half completely (the bottom bread was still fully attached, it was a mess when I took the sandwich as I thought like the top bread, the bottom was also halved). There is one tomato slice, one onion slice, and two lettuce leaves in addition to generous chicken (albeit dry). The tikka tastes nice, mildly (moderate for non-Indians) spicy. read more

The whole experience was easy and laid-back. Let's talk about the stars of the show: the samosas. I ordered four samosas, and wow--easily the best I've had in the bay. We ordered a chocolate bday cake for our 6yr old son and it was the highlight of the party. Everyone raved about the cake, saying it was the perfect amount of sweet and very moist and soft. I am not one person who does a lot of tasting and testing around but love to leave a review when I enjoy something. Was to get an eggless cake for my dad's birthday and had no time to shop around. Had a cake from them a couple months earlier for a friend's birthday and I loved it then too. Remembered the taste and went with my gut to buy one from here. Mango and Black Forest were the two options they gave me. Mango being dad's favorite, I stuck with the same. I can say one taste of it leaves you craving for more. Quality was great and the freshness of the cake made us enjoy it almost till a week later sharing some with friends . Not that it couldn't finish but it was a big one for our party of 4. This spot is my favorite evening snack-tea spot. They have good Iranian chai on weekends and their Indian cakes are a favorite in the family - butterscotch, black currant and chocolate. Got my daughter's birthday party cake from Cakes & Bakes and it turned out soooo good. I wanted the cake to be in a honeybee/pooh theme, and gave a rough design to the baker (Pinto) and he executed it amazingly! Much much much better than I expected. One layer was mango, one layer was butterscotch. Very soft, moist, just lovely flavors. The guests loved the cake and many of them took some home to eat. So happy! read more

Best cake and top quality. Other bakeries were asking 10 days time and i approached cakes and bakes they made it in 1 day. Quality and taste of cake was good too. Other bakeries were asking more money for less size options. We ordered 10" and 6" two tiered cake. It is good for 50-60 people. Definitely recommend this shop for customized cakes. My whole family loves pani puri, we used to like the dish at this place. At some point, they started mixing raw onions into the masala. So, we gave feedback multiple times to not mix the raw onion into the masala. Keeping it separate would be inclusive of people who enjoy the onion as well as those who don't. But they haven't made any change. This a symptom of their lack of care for customer's simple needs. There are enough other restaurants around that understand that chaat is all about catering to different palettes. So, we have decided to stop going to Cakes and Bakes. read more

Was here today to check about the party orders. Wanted to check their menu and rates for various options. They really don't have a party tray, but have given me the options. Luckily I decided to try the Samosas and Veg cutlets. Samosa was readily available, but had to wait for another 10-15 minutes for the veg cutlet. It's a renovated store. So many changes from their old set up. One order of Samosas - 2 pieces is around $4.50 and veg cutlets - 4 pieces is around $8.99. I did a takeout order. The cutlets were good. Not they typical Indian one. But decent. But the Samosa was a disaster. It smelled like tobacco. And got a weird taste to it. It was nauseating to be honest. I was planning to get a tray of samosas and Cutlets this weekend. Very lucky that I tried it today. Not the kind of quality I expected. It was definitely not a food spoilage. The cake also tasted very light and the sweetness was subtle, which I really enjoyed. The berry flavor in the sponge was a little too subtle, though. My main concern is that the cake does not fully resemble the picture they advertised online. It is missing the freeze-dried berries on top, and the berry glaze did not reach as far down the cake as was shown in the photo. Because the berry glaze is the main source of the berry flavor, this was a little disappointing. Also, the cake was not finished when I came to pick up the cake (and I was ~5 minutes late). I'm uncertain if this is for freshness or if there is another reason. Overall, I like the spot for the fresh and light cake. It's pleasantly unique compared to your standard sheet cake, and everything is rather cute. However, it may be a better idea to buy the cakes in-person to be 100% sure of what it will look like, though daily stock is definitely more limited than if you place an order online. I hope they reopen their indoor seating soon.

i was coming here again with family members yesterday. not sure what time exactly they should close…read morethe store but yelp and google say 10:00pm. came here around 08:00pm. as usual order through kiosk and then sit, waiting the order. once we got our orders, we ate and talked. to be honest, all tables were kind of dirty or sticky. we just cleaned it by ourselves. we ate slowly and talked to each other because my aunt will go back the next day. suddenly around 09:00pm, a staff ( young lady ) wiped empty tables ( tables that not being used by any customers ) and put the chairs on top of those tables, showing that not allow to be used by customers. i asked her what time the store will close??? she said 10:00pm and suddenly another staff turned off some of the lights. at that hour, around 09:00pm, many customers came and some would like to sit but not allowed. i changed the star to one for the service while the desserts are always great. i suggest written store close at 10:00pm but last order is at 09:00pm or just turn off the kiosk at 09:00pm. i do understand that staffs need to leave or tired or want to go home but i will say doing like that is kind of impolite while customers are still coming...

I discovered Cakes and Bakes through a friend's daughter's birthday party, where their "Chocolate cake with chocolate mousse" was a huge hit - super moist and heavenly! For my kid's 4th birthday party, I decided to try them out. Ordering was straightforward: call/message or visit in person. I called a month ahead to secure my spot and sent reference images for a Frozen-themed cake. The store is spacious with plenty of snack and food options, including a live pani puri stall. Ambiance is average. On pickup day, my order was ready on time. The cake was cute, but not an exact replica of my reference images - detailing could be improved. However, my 4-year-old didn't notice, and the cake quality was amazing! Special mention: the Elsa and Anna dolls on top are Amazon-bought, just regular dolls. But the Olaf was handmade by this store, and it was a lovely touch! Price was decent - cheapest among other places I inquired. The 10-inch cake served 35-50 people.
