    Parotta Kurma (2 pcs) (N)
    Chaithanya M.

I have ordered their parotta with kurma and veg biryani. The parotta with kurma was flavorful but the veg biryani was a huge let down! It was more like a pulao with garam masala, rice and some veggies. No potato, even. A bit disappointed especially at 15 bucks for what's essentially pulao that isn't good;(

We often go to Mylapore. However, it came to our attention that the quantity of to-go orders in Idly Express don't match what it states in the menu. 16 oz Sambhar measured less than 14 oz when measured. 8 oz Kurma measured less than 6 oz. This is misrepresentation.

First time trying Fremont location as i always enjoy their Alameda location. Unfortunately a disappointing experience. Ordered the vegetable pakoda and samosa. The pakoda was entirely onion, hard to bite into and tasted burnt. The samosas were burnt and inedible. With this experience i would hesitate to visit this location. I genuinely enjoy Idly express other locations and hope this serves as constructive feedback to maintain consistency.

Loved the food at special event today at Idly express. Khara baath was too good! Filter coffee is amazing as always. I was not a fan of rava idly. Not as great as the Thatte Idli. Shivangi baath (not shown in the pic) was just ok too. Rava kesari was yummy!! Overall super satisfying meal, got to taste a lil bit of everything. The service was great, they planned well to avoid super long lines by distributing tokens ahead of time. And I don't see any issues with the "thindi" concept - where folks just grab food and eat outside standing.

My love for food here is exponentially growing! This overtook so many other south Indian restaurants in my heart. It's a take out place primarily. But they have a couple of tables and chairs outside. My favorite here is their kesari and podi idly and their hot lunch their sides are the best minus their tomato chutney which didn't become my favorite yet. Nothing beats their thenga chutney. (coconut). I love their reward system. It rewards loyal customers well. There best is their specials that they started for the movie release. I mean pidi kozhukatai!

Those who know me well understand my obsession with idlis which are fermented rice and lentil dumplings. So off I went to try this after loving the Milpitas branch. I had the same combination of idlis and vadas here as well. And it was good. The filter coffee was a slight disappointment - little too milky for my taste. They have the ready to eat packaged curries priced at $8! Low on spices and oil they tasted wholesome. So glad to have these idli express branches pop up all over the Bay Area. If I could choose favorites the Milpitas branch has an edge over this one coffee was better and they provided a small serving of podi mix with the idlis.

It looks like Idly Express is getting really popular and there are locations opening up all around the Bay Area. They serve up very fresh and tasty food and deserve all their success. Note that they are geared towards takeout and serve all their food in to-go boxes. They do have a few tables that you can sit at.

Thatte Idli, Medu Vada combo served with two different chutneys and sambhar.

The prices…read moreare now way above normal, and unfortunately the food quality does not justify the cost at all. Masala papad was extremely average for the price. Manchurian was legit burnt - not just overcooked, but clearly charred. Buttermilk was basically water. Indian grocery stores sell an entire gallon of much better buttermilk for less than what this restaurant charges for one glass of very bad buttermilk. Bhindi sabji was soaked in oil to the point that it felt like the bhindi was left sitting in oil overnight. Every bite released oil even after squeezing it out - honestly, there was enough oil to cook an entirely new dish. I forgot to take a photo of this dish. The service was equally frustrating. One friend ordered a thali but didn't drink the buttermilk. The staff refused to let any of us use it, preferred to throw it away, and warned us not to touch it or they would charge extra. They instead pushed us to order a new buttermilk separately if we wanted to try it - which we did, and ended up wasting money on that watery drink. The thali presentation felt insulting for the price: Half a glass of bad buttermilk One spoon of raita One spoon of sweet (literally less than a tablespoon) Ice cream shops give more quantity just for tasting, while here you barely get a spoon - and I'm saying this confidently since I've attached photos here. The only decent item we had was Raj Kachori. Everything else was a letdown. Overall, this was a really bad experience -- overpriced food, poor quality, and unreasonable service behavior. Definitely not the Garam Mirchi I remember, and I won't be returning anytime soon. Ambience was good and not that crowded.

We were led to our seats and once we were given the menu, we started studying it meticulously. I got the HINODEYA "House" Ramen, my wife got the Beef Bowl "Gyudon", and our friend got a ramen with katsu in it. They asked me if I wanted my ramen mild, medium or hot in spiciness. I went with the medium option. I enjoyed my ramen. The broth was well made but I didn't notice much difference between the wheat noodle they've used versus normal noodle used in other shops. The portion was not big for its price and I was about 80% full from the bowl. When I tasted a bite of my wife's beef bowl, boy was I disappointed. They added way too much sauce and honestly I can't say this dish is good. The beef wasn't cut in the traditional way in how a gyudon should be and it turned out a little bit thicker which is a little weird for me. I would compared it to a Yoshinoya and the irony is that I actually like the beef bowl from Yoshinoya better at half the price? lol. Our friend shared a little bit of her katsu with us and we thought it was way too dry. Perhaps it's been sitting at the heat lamp for way too long... Overall, what I feel about Hinodeya is that they've definitely have some unique ideas in their dishes but the execution and consistency still needs to be worked on. I noticed that there were 4 different spicy level and I was a little curious as to what they were. It wasn't until I asked the waiter that they explained them to us. I was a little puzzled because this seems to be what they wanted to push but we just weren't told to us in our visit until way later... It's a 50/50 whether I'll come back or not. I think there are definitely improvements for a good ramen spot that people would crowd upon in the bay area for sure.
