I asked for…read moresomething extraordinary, and Kathy from Hansen's delivered a masterpiece that exceeded every expectation. She was patient and covered every detail. The cake was ready on time as a stunning 14‑inch diameter, 6‑inch high showstopper, that was going to be surrounded by matching cupcakes that looked almost too perfect to touch. From the moment the guest walked in, the room shifted. Cake lovers started surrounding the cake, anticipating a slice. Compliments were flying. The honoree and guests were excited. And photos commenced. But the true magic? The non‑cake and vegan eaters....the ones who always politely decline dessert started watching the cake eaters with envy. You could see it happening in real time. First curiosity. Then temptation. Then surrender. One by one, they threw in the towel to ask for a piece of cake. And the moment they tasted it, their eyes widened like they'd just discovered a new dimension of flavor. This wasn't just a cake. This was a phenomenon. The flavors were rich, balanced, moist and unforgettable. The texture was perfection. Every bite felt like a celebration. And by the end, everyone agreed on one thing: Don't eat another cake in your life until you've had Hansen's. Hansen's Cakes didn't just bake a dessert they created an experience that converted skeptics, united the room, and left not a crumb behind. Absolutely extraordinary.

My family has been coming to Hansen's for over 35 years through three generations, for birthdays, celebrations, and even weddings. We live in Pasadena and have continued driving all the way to the Fairfax location because Hansen's has always been our designated cake bakery. That's how much we loved and trusted them. Unfortunately, the quality just isn't what it used to be. My mom recently made the drive to pick up a cake for my sister, and I was genuinely shocked by the decorating. The border work looked rushed and mediocre, the frosting looked unfinished, and overall it did not have the quality or attention to detail that we've always associated with Hansen's. I honestly feel like I could have done a better job decorating it myself. To make matters worse, the cake wasn't properly secured for the drive home. Two small pieces of tape at the base of the cake board were clearly not enough, and the cake shifted and was damaged on the way home. It's really disappointing because this isn't just a bakery we randomly tried, Hansen's has been part of our family celebrations for decades. We have so many memories tied to their cakes which makes seeing the decline in quality especially sad. After more than 35 years of being loyal customers, I never thought I'd be saying this, but I don't think we'll be coming back.

Having tried many gluten free deserts in the past, I must say, my hopes were not too high... OH MY GOODNESS, the cake was so moist and rich, the buttercream was deeply flavorful and not too sweet- I made sure to sneak a piece away to take home and eat for breakfast the next day I am a home baker and am usually the birthday cake / treat girlie of my friends. Unfortunately due to compounding illness and disabilities, I have been unable to bake. My lack of stamina and mobility has taken away the joy that baking brought me. I didn't realize how important it was to me to find a down-home bakery until I ate Maryn's cake and watched it bring my friends together way they used to over my deserts. Even my skeptical non-gluten sensitive friends were going back for seconds. The vanilla cake was pretty good - I liked how they use cream cheese frosting, as not many places do that. I do think that the cake itself was dry (perhaps because it was the size exposed to air). The chocolate cake slice was pretty good! It's one of the better chocolate cakes I've had, where both the cake and the frosting taste like chocolate. It was moist, as well, which was good. The flourless chocolate cake was decent - I liked their buttercream, but the texture of the cake itself seemed a little off. The bakery is adorable and there are so many cakes to look at. The workers are also very nice and helpful.

It was extremely last minute and I was trying to find anything I could while also getting my sisters cake of choice. I found Cake Monkey Bakery online and they seemed very promising. I called and asked if they were able to do a cake within 2 days and to my surprise they said possibly! They asked me to send an email or to come in with an inspiration picture to see what they could do and they exceeded my expectations! First off, the place was lovely with the neon signs and beautiful pastries displayed. I was greeted very nicely by Esmerelda and Nancy and told them my situation. They told me it's no worries and that they were able do the design of the cake with the exact color in no time! They asked a few questions and showed me similar cakes they have done in the past and they looked great. They said they'll keep me updated if anything happens during the process. Coming back 2 days later was a breeze. They called me the day before to tell me I can pick it the time I requested. Again with a warm welcome, they showed me what the cake looked like and I was more than happy, it looked just like the one my sister wanted. Service, cake and timing 10/10, my sister was even more happy with it. So again, thank you so much Cake Monkey Bakery and especially to Esmerelda and Nancy! I appreciate you guys!

This has become our absolute favorite snack to get here and I gots to have it every time I'm in. The chocolate pop tart is solid. We prefer the taste of this to the brownie cookie...we aren't big on that one. I had such high hopes because I love brownies and obvi love cookies, but alas, personal taste preference. The chocolate cake pudding ($4.25) is a rich and decadent treat that can be eaten right out of the wrapper it comes in! I was surprised I loved this chocolate cake soaked in chocolate custard with a few marshmallows and caramel on top. The Peanut Butter El Rollo is a tiny but cute little guy at $5.50. They make their own peanut buttercream for the inside filling and the chocolate is just wonderful. I like their bars One of my favorite things at Cake Monkey is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Cakewich. It's not your traditional carrot cake taste/flavor I could not make out what spices they used like the usual (nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves etc) maybe it was just really really light? The frosting was also very different from what perhaps we are used to as a carrot cake and cream cheese frosting also very light in flavor. It was moist and frosting was creamy smooth got to give them that but I definitely would not order again. Can't wait to have our chocolate cake slice which we'll make sure to call way earlier or show up at an earlier time.

The special girl who I purchased these for what overly joyous when she opened the box. She had been a long time fan of SweetLadyJane!! I selected 6 Cupcakes: Strawberry, Vanilla, Chocolate, Smores, Birthday Cake, & Salted Caramel. The butter cream on each of tastes super airy and fresh, although the frosting really is not sweet at all. The cakes are very moist & tasty. The toppings on both, the snorted & the salted caramel were a great addition. The loss of a star is because, honestly, every single cupcake tasted the same. The only one whose flavor was distinct was the difference between the chocolate base cake & the vanilla one. Other than that, there is no difference between birthday cake or vanilla or strawberry. And no difference between chocolate, s'mores, or salted caramel. The butter cream is the same on each, & the base is nearly identical as well. I wish the flavors were more potent.

The cake was moist and chocolatey, but the almond texture seemed pretty stale. I wish they were toasted and crunchier for a good texture. Also, a single slice of cake for $13.50 is outrageous. The slice wasn't even big and I could finish the whole thing in one sitting. You can get a huge cake at Costco for similar quality at $17. I did only pay $8 for this slice since I used a birthday coupon, but still, I would not pay for this at full price unfortunately. The staff here are pretty nice and I do like the interior which seems like a great place for studying/relaxing.
