My neighbor recommended this mechanic Tom Walsh at Calabazas Automotive in Santa Clara and he works on old vehicles like my 1978 Chevy K-10 Stepside. He's a real nice guy and you'll like him I went down there and the first thing I get is a smile and a handshake from this gentleman which made feel completely comfortable leaving my vehicle there. He inspected everything within an hour called me back and gave me an estimate. Also, he also said I needed the back brakes and the front brakes could wait a while, which save me a little bit of money and I appreciate that. My truck was done in one day. I was so happy that I didn't have to leave it overnight and plus now I have brakes which is a blessing. I brought a 36 ft long RV to Calabazas Auto & RV Repair to have the ABS light turn on. I asked them to check and repair everything including the brakes, engine, and generator before we went on a long trip. I asked them to do be very careful doing repairs and to do a good job with repairs. I told them to repair all mechanical problems without regard for cost. After they finished with repairs, they called me to come pick up the RV. They told me that they performed a thorough inspection, repaired all mechanical problems, and they insured me that the RV is in a mechanically satisfactory condition for a long road trip. From the Calabazas shop, I drove 360 miles on the freeway and then noticed that the brakes were no longer working and my efforts to halt the massive vehicle were futile. I exited the freeway and with a stroke of luck, I was able to stop the RV by driving into a bump that was 3 feet high. If I was driving downhill at that moment, everybody in the RV could have died along with any person caught in the potential collision. My trip was ruined. I had to have the RV towed to a local auto repair shop and I had to rent a car to drive home. Please imagine yourself in the same situation where you are driving in a massive 36ft RV on the freeway with no brakes and no way to stop. I no longer trust this repair shop. After they made repairs to the vehicle, I was almost killed in an accident caused by mechanical failure. If you were in my position, how would you rate them? read more

I have finally found a reliable mechanic! I came here on recommendation of a friend and I am sure glad I checked them out. Gary is a great guy and what I like most about this place is that once they fix your car, chances are you will NOT be back for the same problem. The price's are fair and they can usually get your car back to you quickly. I have been here for oil changes, a fuel pump replacement, and a wheel bearing replacement. Gas, engine and suspension issues on three different occasions, and all of my experiences were great. This isn't some cheap place where the mechanic charges you 1/3 the price you should be paying and you end up getting a half-assed job. The guys here know their stuff and can quickly diagnose whats wrong with your car. If you want a RELIABLE auto shop, this is the place for you. read more

The guys at Calabazas know me well, as I was introduced to them by my dad, who's been a customer for many years. I've owned a plethora of classic and older cars and there isn't a thing these guys can't fix. If there's something they're not able to do, they find somebody who can do it and won't charge me any extra. I've been taking my cars to Gary for years, and he's always quick to answer questions and return calls. My cars have always been repaired professionally and in a timely manner. They're priced very well and give accurate estimates on both repair costs and when they'll be finished with the repairs. I trust Gary and his crew to fix only what needs to be fixed and not charge me for work that doesn't need to be done. When I bought my '73 Dodge in the spring of '06, I had taken it to Calabazas for some minor electrical work. They've revived 2 of my dead vehicles on short notice so that I could get home an hour away before. Another fantastic job by Calabazas. I called on Friday that I needed to fix my front brakes. Tom said they can get to it on Tuesday. I took my truck in on Monday since I didn't have time to drop off on Tuesday morning and by Tuesday afternoon, all was done. This Place Was AWESOME!! They helped me to restore a Jeep that had not been driven in over 12 years. I had it towed there left it for a few weeks (there was no rush on the repair) they basically did all the work to get it smog check ready once it passed I was able to drive it home. Very Exciting... Since then I have not had any problems with it. I bugged Gary about every other day just checking on my car. Great personality and very friendly. After using a few less than scrupulous mechanics, we found Calabazas Auto repair. We have a small fleet of 4-5 trucks and now use them exclusively for our regular maintenance and almost always for our one-off jobs. Tom takes pride in his shop, and has always delivered fast service at a reasonable price. And I have yet to take a vehicle back for the same problem. He also values his customer relationships. Just this week I needed someone to come take a look at our largest truck, which wouldn't start due to battery issues. He came by himself and took the time to explain to me an easy fix that I could do myself. That is the kind of service I am talking about. On the same visit he provided me information about service intervals on my fleet I needed. All of this at no charge, simply good customer service. Brought a 26f rv for transmission fluid changed and a full safety inspection. Belts, fluids, and the full brake systems to make sure we will be ok for the Memorial Day weekend trip. Got the rv back couple of days later. The rv only has 22k miles so when they said everything was ok I trusted them. Well, on Friday of the Memorial Day weekend we drove for Yosemite. 22 miles later the brake was starting to fail. Good thing I was able to stop it on the side of the road before it got disastrous. The brake over heated and the fluid boiled over. It's 330pm and we are north bound on 680 by Pleasanton. No tow truck was available locally and the only ones available to tow an rv was far away. So being on a holiday 3 day weekend where everybody is trying to get out of town we were stranded for 4 hours before a tow truck arrived. It ended up costing us over 900 dollars because of traffic and on a holiday. During that wait time I called around for a shop to fix it so our trip won't get ruined. No shop was available because everyone has already left for the holiday and won't be back till tues. I called Calabazas and asked them what work did they do to inspect it. They couldn't give me any detail other than they just inspected it which is the same info I have on the receipt. I have taken this rv many time to Monterey and half moon bay before I brought it in with no problem. In fact I drove it to gilroy that Sunday before I brought it in. Either something wasn't place back after they inspected it or they made a mistake. I just saw a similar negative review about a brake problem someone had on a rv. If I knew about it before I wouldn't have brought my rv there. But then again I wouldn't know if they made an honest mistake there or they don't do a thorough job. I don't think I would bring my rv or any car or recommend this place. Despite the ruined holiday trip after a long planning, I'm very grateful my wife, my son and I were safe. I couldn't imagine how disastrous it would have been if it was downhill when the brake completely failed. read more

Sorry, but I would not recommend this place. The owners are nice when you talk to them upfront about your car concerns, but once they have your car, they're not very honest. They don't like to take the time to explain what exactly needs to be repaired with your car whenever you ask them (like it's too much of a bother). They also proceed to do repairs on your car after they quote you the cost...They never directly ask you permission before they proceed to repair it. They tell you they fix it when you call back later to ask about the status of your car (sly). Also, they are not very timely. They had my car for a whole day before they even inspected it, though I had called beforehand and was informed by them that they had time to look at my car that day...They are good talkers, but not much substance to them...too bad. One time they didn't charge me for diagnosis when they couldn't recreate the problem. These guys are hands down the best! Over the years I have had a hard time finding a good, HONEST, reliable, professional and caring mechanic. I thought they didn't exist. Well they do! My father found Gary and Tom several years back and has since become personal friends with them. They have always gone above and beyond to help me! I show up at 12:30 for a quick oil change and they have me out in 10 minutes. I have sprung all sorts of small repairs on them last minute and they always figure out a way to fix my truck before the end of the day. They always give such a good deal on pricing. I have been taken advantage before and Gary and Tom always find ways to save me money and give it to me straight. On top of that once they fix something it STAYS fixed. I had that issue with the dealership. I just want to say I recommend them with the high regards and currently refer all my friends and family. They are real genuine GOOD guys!
