I was friendly and pleasant but it didn't seem like my nail tech Dewey was motivated to do his job. He claimed to have 14 years of experience while simultaneously not knowing anything about duck shape nails or colors like marshmallow. C'mon every nail tech worth their salt knows marshmallow. He seemed really annoyed when I wanted my crooked nail fixed and made straight, even though I requested it from the jump. He suggested I just wait until next visit. Why would I want to look at a crooked nail for 2 to 3 weeks?!! Just unreal. He had the nails on my right hand longer than my left hand & I had to point that out, only then was that remedied. Can you imagine?!!! He didn't seem to know how to buff and file the nails well and even cut me at one point to where I began bleeding. The place is so low vibe, low energy. Cali Nails and Spa After having a long day today I decided to go get my nails done. I went here to Cali Nails in the Diamond mall. I called ahead of time to make sure they had room. I got there and I was excited to get my nails done. Sat there waiting for my turn. It wasn't busy in there. And then this nail tech came and said it was my turn. He was hard to understand. Then I tell him I wanted a fill. He said what kind I tell him ombré and that I want red. He then tells me that he's going to do the same color I had before and that it would be better for me. I looked at him and said well I said I want red and since I'm paying for a service I expect to have what I want. While doing my nails he kept twisting my fingers and hurting me while he was doing my nails. I told the nail tech that I would like snow flakes on my ring finger and thumb on both hands. He did both ring fingers and then tells me he only doing one design on my hands. I was like excuse you I said on my thumbs too. He the yanks my hands and tells me that it's going to cost more. He was then yanking my hands around and then while my hands were in the uv lamp drying he yanks the light and it made me fall forward. I looked at him and told him that his service was shitty! I just left after I paid for my nails. I'm never going back again. They charged me $90.00 for a fill and very bad service. The man who did my nails sits towards the back in the second to the last seat right by the aisle towards the back. Never again. I've gotten my nails done here a few times now and while they are good at designs their pricing is dishonest. I got a full gel set and was told when I come back for a refill it would be $40. The start of the service was amazing I got seated, dipped my feet in the water( the water could of been hotter) and got the box of colors to choose for my hands and toes. Had planned for a lovely outing with my boyfriend to go get pedicures and manicures together was extremely disappointed after visiting Cali nails, the basic pedicure package is $40 and came with boiling hot water and about five total minutes of service 10 most. The manicure was an acrylic set of no more than 3 cm. They wanted $75 for the base alone with no design no topcoat. They quoted us $95 for the full design, which was just tiny hearts. I'll add a photo where I got them completed at a different nail salon. I would not recommend, the service was bad, The people were rude and when we tried to ask questions about the absurd pricing we were met with attitude. We stopped by two other nail salons afterwards didn't end up going to the first one because they didn't do designs, but both of the places had had said that we were overcharged for the base nails by about $20-$25. Both places had said for the nails that I had already gotten done they would charge me about $50. Cali Nails is extremely overpriced and has rude service. If you're looking for a nice set of nails please check out any of the other 30 nail salons we have in Anchorage. I got the design and topcoat done at sassy's nails on Huffman in Anchorage. The gentleman who helped us out was very polite and charged very fairly if you're looking for a place to get your nails done I would 100% recommend it over cali nails. This is one of the worst nail places I've been the service was very rushed!! The prices are high end for the same thing you can get anywhere else. They charge you about double the price anywhere else does and say it's because they use top end products. But the reality is when I got a pedicure it was burning hot water like crazy. The pedicure was only 5 minutes long at most 10 minutes for $40 with 30 second massage on both legs. My girlfriend got plain white acrylics with no design no clear coat no gems or anything for $75. The guy who was doing my nails was very rude. He was the person that was wearing gold chains and he was making me feel stupid when I asked him to remove the horrible design he created. He told me my design was not cute and kept making me feel bad. I asked for cow print and he gave me polka dots. I asked him countless times to fix it and he kept telling me "sure but it won't be cute". He had terrible service. I live in Delta Junction so getting into town and having time for a mani is a rare treat. I had time this past Saturday and decided to pop into this place in Dimond Center. On the plus side, I was able to walk right in and get started on a busy Saturday (think late afternoon)...maybe there was a reason for it? The nail tech I had was more interested in watching the playoffs than in actually tending to my nails, as he frequently physically turned his body around to watch a play or check the score. Whatever. Wouldn't be such a big deal if my nails hadn't started bubbling and peeling by the time I got home. Less than two hours later. Started on my right thumb, then my right middle finger, then my right pinky finger. By today (Monday), my left thumb has bubbled and peeled and my left pinky has lost a significant chunk of paint. For a $45(!!!!!) gel manicure, I was expecting much MUCH more than this. Save your time. Save your money. Don't do it to yourself. If I could just leave my review at that I would. If you want to know why, allow me to explain. I showed up with a friend about 10 minutes prior to the appointment I'd booked for us. (2 pedi 2 mani w/1 full set). It was fairly busy with walk ins and such. We didn't start our appointment on time and they kept asking us what we wanted even though we had booked these appointments a week and two days in advance. I booked them together so we could sit together and enjoy each other's company. Instead they tried having her sit for manicure at the time I was doing pedicure. When I asked why we couldn't sit together they let us do our pedicure together. Then they basically had me just sit with my feet in the water while they did my friends pedicure and started mine halfway trough hers. She finished and went across the shop which kept us from talking while she got a manicure. I say under the dry for your feet, but not because I needed to dry. Because they needed the chair for the next person and my manicurist wasn't available. So my friend got a whole manicure without me and had to leave before mine was even started. They didn't prep my nails or give me a manicure when I asked for it and full set. They tried talking me out of acrylic and just painting my natural nail and started talking in Vietnamese to each other when I became adamant that I wanted a full set. I switched between two different people and they were both very rough with my hands. They cut me while clipping down my natural nail. Then filed down my nail way too much. Then they cut two of my fingers with the electric file and one wouldn't stop bleeding so he put glue on it. My nails didn't come out how I wanted. I was even made fun of on vacation because they turned out so bad. If I wasn't scared that I'd have to go back to have them removed I would have written the review earlier. This was a terrible experience. I'll never go back. I wish I wouldn't have paid. It's super expensive to be butchered here. I do not recommend it. read more

I liked that it didn't smell strong like chemicals while I was there as some places really smell. Altered my tip by $25?! I've been going here for months with decent results but after what happened on Sunday, January 29th, I'm done. The service was 25.00, I tipped $5.00 on the card and $7 in cash because I always like to give a little extra in cash. The final credit card charge just came in at $55.00! It came to $65 because gel is $20 upcharge, something they don't mention until you're at the counter paying. Just took my daughter out to get our nails done. We had a later appointment and the design my daughter chose was quite complex! The ladies were so sweet and the nail tech helping my daughter was very thorough and conscientious in her work, even though she ended up staying 45 minutes late! Went in to get my first set of acrylic nails and they didn't do it. They asked if i wanted gells and I thought it was gel polish not gel overlay on my natural nail. I had repeatedly said i wanted a full set of acrylics. After she got done buffing my nail i asked why the shape of my nail mattered and she said that they would put the power on after shaping. This being my first time getting fake nails was like ok i guess there's an extra step. I kept waiting for her to break out the fake nails or use the power stuff to extend my natural nail. It never happened and by the time she broke out the polish I realized that this wasn't a step on the way to my set of acrylics. This was her bypassing what i had asked for so she could charge an extra $20. I kept thinking that I hadn't explained what I wanted clearly enough and i get really stressed out if i need to initiate confrontation. I had already questioned her once on the process and got pushed down saying not to worry, well i was right to worry. I hate my nails. I am getting them redone with a friend tomorrow at her preferred salon. I am never going back here. And the only reason that i did not put a stop pay on the payment for this terrible treatment is that they obviously need the money and don't care what their customers want. So they will no longer have me as a customer. If you are like me at all and either are ignorant of nail terminology or new techniques or if you hate confrontation do not go here they WILL take advantage! And on a side note i looked up later to see if the job done was even worth it and it wasn't, $55 and my nails are not a uniform shape, she did not push my cuticles back so now it looks like these nails are 5 days old instead of 2. I was leaving and they told me my total was $70. Charging $10 extra to remove my old nail polish, and $10 extra because I had multiple colors, neither of which they told me they would charge me for until after the fact. Today, I came in with an ingrown toenail as a result of a bad pedicure at a different place and Helen was not only kind and professional, but she was very gentle and thorough! Her and the manager both let me know that they would work to rid me of the ingrown but if it was too painful or started to bleed, they recommended I see a doctor as to not risk infection. Stopped in on a trip to Alaska. Luck placed me in Thuy's chair. The nail salon I had visited previously in NY did a terrible job and it took Thuy hours to undo the damage they caused. But she was incredibly gentle & careful removing the old set (knowing the previous salon had torn a number of nail beds) and made sure the new gel set was exactly how I like them. Then the pedicure ~ oh wow! The chairs are perfect, the massage controls actually make sense and do what you tell them to :-) Even if you don't really have callouses, go for the callous removal option ($55, with a "regular" pedicure starting at $35 and a number of options all the way up to the deluxe for $90). The scrubs felt amazing and wasn't too rough, which I've experienced elsewhere, and my feet are SILKY smooth. I can't say enough good things about Thuy. So glad I came in! read more
