I brought my Toshiba laptop there on a Thursday after they told me over the phone that it usually takes them 1 to 2 days to get it back, they called me on Sunday at about 10 AM telling me that it was the motherboard and that it would be $150 to repair and also that they would update the windows software. They told me that it would ready for pick up on that same day Sunday around 12 noon. I waited till Monday to pick up my computer, when I got there they told me to check it to make sure everything was OK, I did check it and it was doing the same thing that I originally brought it in to be repaired for, they said it was repaired, which obviously was not. I had suspicions about this place after they didn't call me the next day for a status update, I then after the fact check their reviews here on Yelp, and now figured I had made a mistake in trusting this company with my computer. Once I arrived on Monday and they knew they had not fixed my computer. They told me sorry, it's still not ready and they would recheck it to see what's wrong, I waited until three days later on Wednesday because I had not heard anything from them since Monday. The guy told me if I'm not comfortable just come pick it up. I plan to do just that and also plan to notify the manufacture not to refer to this place as a repair spot. I would recommend to anyone considering this place, to please read the reviews prior and consider carefully before the trust this guy to repair anything. This was a complete waste of time. Next day they told me the problem and in just a couple of days once the parts arrived they had it up and running. They did an awsome job changing the motherboard on my laptop. I own a Lenovo laptop that had a hard drive failure. I bought a replacement hard drive from Lenovo but was unable to use the rescue discs to reload the operating system. I called California Computer because they are an authorized Lenovo repair facility. They were able to install a Windows 10 OS on my machine in about two hours, and charged me $110, which I think is reasonable. I am happy to have a working computer again! In the interest of full disclosure, I asked about an Ipad cable when I was leaving the store. They gave me a $5 generic cable and asked me to write a Yelp review. I would have been glad to write a positive review with or without the gift of the cable. read more

DO NOT COME HERE!!!! BEWARE! I took my laptop in to get fixed Bc it was running slow and left with a huge paperweight. First off they took 3 business days but 5 days overall after telling me that the process takes 3-5 hours. They also got me in by saying they would charge between $70-90 to repair the laptop but of course they changed me $90 without even flinching. No wonder there's BMW's and Aston Martin's outside, they are crooks. When I brought the laptop in it at least turned on and somewhat worked. They totally killed it. Now it doesn't even turn on, charge or any signs of life. It's as if I took my loved one to the hospital because they were sick and these guys just finished the job and killed them. The guy who actually fixes the computers is ok (John works hard and is a nice guy). The manager though, is a crook! I brought my laptop unsure whether the repair it needed would be covered under my warranty. They promised me not to work on it until after they confirmed its warranty status. Lies. As I entered, Kevin greeted me at the counter, took my laptop and contact information. Direct and to the point, he advised me that a diagnostic check would be completed same day with a repair solution/quote included. I received a call that evening advising of the malfunction, and a price to fix. I picked up my repaired laptop 48 hours after meeting him. The price was good, and the computer is operating better than ever. Kevin provided prompt service. I appreciate most of all the speed and convenience of this experience. California Computer returned the printer to me in VERY BAD CONDITION. No cords, shattered plastic, broken pieces, etc. Be very careful when doing business with this company. read more

Also, I believe the guy who does the actual repairs, I don't remember his name, doesn't really know too much about computers. When I brought him my computer, he returned it to me still broken. This guy didn't even check if it was working when he returned it to me, not to mention his dumbfounded look on his face when he was trying to figure out what happened. Its comical to see how unaccountable and unprofessional these people were. Take your computer to Advance Computer on Santa Monica Blvd, they gave me a better price, fixed my computer properly, actually tested it before they gave it back to me. Advance Computer is also authorized repair center for Dell, HP, Mac, and Lenovo. Oh ya, this place doesn't force its customers to write fake reviews in exchange for discounts. California Computer was a breeze to work with, and they had surprisingly great turnaround time. I needed to replace a broken keyboard for my X1 Carbon ThinkPad ( they're a registered local repair location for Lenovo, among others). I called and they basically gave me a run down on the phone, estimates, and checked if they had the part (which they did). In the end, I dropped the laptop off at 2:30PM and it was done before 4PM -- looks and works beautifully and they let me keep the spare parts which might come in handy down the line. I hate Lenovo's service, but I love the service I get from this firm. I was so disgusted by Lenovo's rotten service that I had pretty much decided to never buy a Lenovo again. My laptop died while on a working vacation in LA. When I called California Computers they were extremely helpful and polite. When I arrived to the shop, they were just as helpful and professional. Understanding my needs, they quickly diagnosed my computer and recognized I need a new hard drive. They expedited shipment of the hard drive and installed it by 11:00 the next morning. I hope I never have to replace another hard drive any time soon. But if I'm in the LA area and have any computer needs, these are the guys I'm going to see. Don't fall for it. Don't fall for one of the oldest sales tricks (scams) in the world. I took my ASUS laptop in to get fixed because my wife had managed to break one of the hinges and I didn't have time to deal with it. I estimated it to be about a hundred and fifty dollar job, so I was willing to let someone else deal with it for that. Kevin looked at the computer and told me he would evaluate the damage, I didn't notice that he had a "Diagnostics" fee of fifty five dollars on the receipt, Kevin does not bother to mention this as I assume he has learned it will get a certain number of people to balk losing him his guaranteed fifty five dollars. Folks this is one of the oldest tricks (scams) in the book because now no matter what they quote you for the repair you feel you are already vested and don't want to lose your fifty five dollars. So when Kevin told me the repair would be an eye popping and ridiculous four hundred and fifty dollars he hoped I would bite not wanting my fifty five dollars to go for naught. I have learned this lesson before, eat the money you think you are going to lose and get out quick. I took the computer home and had it apart in ten minutes, found the parts I needed online for around fifty dollars and when I get them I can repair the computer in about ten minutes, (so my original estimate was close, these greed mongers still could have made a nice profit doing it for one hundred and fifty dollars.) Don't fall into California Computer's "use them or lose your diagnostics fee trap," you can easily do this by not going to California Computer on Pico in Los Angeles to begin with. read more

My laptop had a broken screen and California Computers is a service center for my laptop so I took it to them and they offered a few options. Kevin and his staff were friendly and professional. They fixed my screen as well as my screen locking up and freezing all the time. I recommend them and so far I am happy with my laptop. I recently found this place in an online search, and so glad I did! I came here to have files transferred from an unusable Lenovo laptop to a new one bought at Office Depot after OD told me there were no files to transfer. They transferred the files from the old laptop to the new one with no problem. The worker also told me it isn't necessary to repurchase MS Office (which Office Depot told me I needed to do) and that it would upload with the key or e-mail used on the last purchase, which turned out to be correct. I brought my Toshiba laptop here. The screen had lines on the bottom/wasn't functioning properly. They had the part in stock and replaced it in about 15 minutes! A little on the pricey side ($99 for parts, $75 for labor) but I wasn't paying for it (insured through SquareTrade) and they give a $25 discount with a Yelp check in. He is authorized Toshiba (and many other companies) which is great. If you have a claim that requires an authorized center (like American Express) this is a great place to go. The only issue I ran into is when they emailed me letting me know the repair was done, it got sent to my spam, and I had to call and ask, but they were super friendly and let me know it was ready! Kevin and crew repaired it so quickly and perfectly. You will not be disappointed if you take any of your computer equipment to them. Their price is also very competitive. I first called the geek squad and they gave me an outrages price. I then called Office Depot, and they also gave me an outrages price and told me they would have to send it out for two weeks. Well there is no way I could be without it for two weeks because I use it for work. Especially since it still worked the screen is just cracked.
