California Fish Grill is a counter-service eatery that serves affordable-yet-sustainable seafood. This chain started out in the late 90's in California before they opened up two locations here in the Valley. They offer a variety of seafood options on their menu. You can choose from one of their grilled plates with side choices, salads, sandwiches or a bowl. They also offer a Taco Tuesday special. Basically the customer places their order on the computer screen and then they call you when your food is ready. It is a pretty simple concept. I am a big shellfish lover and usually order something with shrimp. They have a number of shrimp options on their menu, so I ordered the Shrimp Trio to try a variety. I enjoyed my meal that included rice and vegetable as my sides. There are so many delicious seafood and side choices here. The Shrimp Skewers is another entrée that I recommend. If you are a seafood lover and on a budget, you can't beat the prices for fresh seafood here. I love fish and chips. It's one of my fave things since living in N London for 10 years and having a "chippie" down the street from my house. I was looking for a new place to try, and sit outside on the patio this lovely day. The restaurant is clean, with tables inside as well as outside, so we ordered some strawberry margaritas, and the nice lady at the counter brought out the drinks. There are also wine and beer besides the sodas. On the sides section of the ordering menu there were several items that were 'out of stock' , but had a lot of other choices. The french fries (very good, crispy and hot) and charred brussels sprouts were available, crispy and parmesan-y good. The three-piece fried fish was perfectly fried, no grease, crispy-crunchy and I ate all of it ! We had more drinks and they were brought out to the table, to enjoy with the meal. There was also a tuna poke bowl, with avocado, rice, and sauce and condiments (that I couldn't taste because of my chili allergy), but it was called very good by the person who ordered it. At the time we went, around three pm, there weren't many customers but as we finished it was starting to fill up for the evening and people picking up takeout. Finding Nemo... and then eating him! Marlin and Dory are next. I came here a couple of times now, and I haven't had one bad bite yet. I've had the grilled sockeye salmon, grilled sea bass, multiple bowls of clam chowder, fish and chips, and the dynamite shrimp bowl. My go-to is grilled sea bass and some clam chowder. The fish and chips aren't bad, but they were out of tartar sauce the day I went, and that made me sad. I still need to come back on Taco Tuesday and try their fish tacos. I like it here. I've been here once before and I decided to stop in again because I was craving seafood. The last time I was here, I placed my order with a staff member. This time I used the kiosk to select my menu items. It was a pretty easy process. I ordered the same thing that I ordered last time, the Shrimp and Battered Fish on the Classic menu. They were moderately busy, so it took a reasonable amount of time to receive my order. I took my tray to my table and noticed that they didn't give me the cocktail sauce or the tartar sauce that I had ordered with the meal. I went back to the counter and a staff member gave me a couple of containers of cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. When I got back to the table, I also realized that they didn't give me any lemons. I'm not sure if I had to specifically ask for them when I placed my order, but I remember getting them the last time I was here. The fish was hot and crispy. I have to admit that I wasn't wild about the batter on the fish this time around. Some may think that I'm being overly picky, but I don't care for fried/crispy batter that shatters and explodes all over the place when I'm cutting into it. I'm sure others will love crispy batter, but it's a personal preference. The fish was hot, but it was also a little dry. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and I thought they were the star of the show. The asparagus was cooked well and the sauce that was applied was subtle and complimented it well. The fries were a little soggy and I didn't like the seasoning that they put on them. When it comes to fries, I like them plain and lightly salted. The seasoning just left a weird aftertaste in my mouth. In the future, I will probably not order the fries again. I didn't like them enough to finish them. I wasn't happy with the fries the first time I was here either, so at least they are consistent in that regard. I debated as to whether I should rate California Fish Grill with three or four stars. I decided on a 3-star rating because it was lacking a bit in the areas that are important to me. It really was just "OK." Based on this, I'd probably deliberate a bit more as to whether or not I'd return. It's not a definite no, but something to give me pause for the next time that I'm craving fish. read more

There's no pictures of the food....I was so hungry it smelled so good...1 bite turned into the whole meal devoured and I forgot to take the picture. I will next time, I promise! I would have gave negative stars but the manager Angel was very kind however I feel like I wasted my money . For starters I ordered Mediterranean Branzino grill plate two kids meals one grilled shrimp the other chicken strip and a shrimp taco with extra sauce! There's no avocado or pickled onion on my dish as advertise. Whoever is packing to go order clearly doesn't care my kids shrimp is burnt and it taste burnt so is my taco and I paid extra for garlic butter in the olive oil sauce and didn't receive either. Very disappointed in my experience especially since I called a few times before I place my order to make sure you could put the sauce on the side . Also missing kids drink. The menu showcases a variety of options, including grilled fish tacos, poke bowls, and the ever-popular fish and chips. I ordered the grilled catfish, with the side of rice and fries. The Catfish was grilled to perfection with a nice char. The accompanying sides, like the tangy coleslaw and zesty rice, complemented the main dishes well. You can order at the self service kiosk or to the staff directly. It was easy and simple to order at the self service kiosk. California Fish Grill delivers on its promise of fresh, well-prepared seafood in a relaxed atmosphere.
