It's a strong cue when I pull out that cup.. it's weekend.. shut off and shut up every thing else.. for the next hour or so.. it chill time.. very important.. I've been coming here for over 25 years, and I've defended this place through price increases, shrinking portions, inconsistent service, and declining quality because of the nostalgia and loyalty I had to it. This visit was my breaking point. I will never be back. The food quality has absolutely fallen off a cliff. The meat was so tough and chewy that it was genuinely unpleasant to eat. Portions have gotten noticeably smaller while prices continue to climb. Paying more for significantly less food is bad enough, but paying more for food that's this poor is unacceptable. The service was just as bad. I stood at the counter waiting while nobody came to help. I eventually had to call the restaurant from inside the restaurant just to get someone to come to the front. That's beyond ridiculous. And then came the final insult: $15 for a side of sauce. I honestly thought it had to be a mistake. Charging that kind of money for a side item is pure greed. It's sad watching a place I've supported for over two decades become a shell of what it used to be. Loyalty clearly means nothing here. Instead of rewarding longtime customers, they've chosen higher prices, smaller portions, lower-quality food, and terrible service. After 25+ years of giving this restaurant chance after chance, I'm done. There are far too many Mexican restaurants that actually value their customers. Save yourself the disappointment and spend your money somewhere that deserves it. read more

Walked in for our reservation at 4pm. Empty at the time being between dinner lunch rush hour. So was nice and quiet. Sever was a male, he was very on game, and helpful. Right when we came in he got drink orders served our table with chips and salsa .. our fave , chips and salsa I give 4stars it was great! Order the prickly pear margarita and in my opinion can't go wrong, was in point. Server top notch made sure we all were happy and had every Ty ing we needed. I ordered the chimi with shredded beef. We had a party of 15and everyone left happy. Unfortunately my PICTs do no justice since I forgot to take while I was there.. chimis served with a plentiful helping of rice and beans chimis made crisp served with toppings or toss em on the side of unsure. Macayo's is my favorite place in town for a cheese crisp and margarita. I like that they have lots of different flavors and you can get them frozen. They also have some of my favorite Mexican rice in town and the chips and salsa are always delicious! The service was fast and friendly. The only thing I didn't care for was the music. The restaurant used to have a cool vibe, it was very colorful and they played mariachi music. Since the remodel it just kind of looks like a generic hotel restaurant and the music was random pop songs and elevator sounding music. read more

I sense indifference... This has been my favorite location for years and I am not sure what happened but, it has been steadily declining. Last night may have been the final straw, given the service and the food lead to an overall indifference. It took nearly ten minutes to be acknowledged by our server once we were seated. The dining room wasn't crowded at 5pm on a Saturday night, so not sure why the delay. We were served a basket of chips that had mostly overcooked ones and refills were a rare thing. Where the kitchen usually makes up for it with the food, our plates contained food that appeared to be haphazardly plated. The veg in my fajitas was mostly raw, the shrimp way overdone, and the beans were ice cold. Here is the thing, there are too many decent Mexican places in this market to be this indifferent, which is a real shame since we really liked this location. read more

Went to this location Tuesday night and sat down stairs. My husband and I were having the best time. We did sit right by the host stand, which was also fine.. 30 minutes in. I think it was a server from upstairs came down to the host stand and was screaming at her coworkers about not being able to handle herself in a very disrespectful way. She had orange hair and was not very presentable.. we love this location. Just hope to see better. I don't believe this lady needs to work here with how she was acting. read more

It's been about 20 years since I've stepped foot into this establishment, but I thought I'd pop in for their celebratory anniversary special. To celebrate their 78th year in year business, they were offering .78¢ crispy shredded beef & chicken tacos, which they honor every year. Large establishment that offers lakeside patio dining & upstairs bar. Luckily for us, we only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, and our server was amazing! She was so sweet and very attentive. She first brought us chips and salsa, and the chips were great! Salsa- not so much, it was very bland. We ordered the cheese crisp appetizer as it's complimentary with any Yelp check in. I LOVED it. Super thin, with melted cheese and excellent flavor. I also ordered a Michelada, and although it looked pretty, it tasted quite bland. We also got 10 chicken & 10 shredded beef tacos. I'm grateful for the price I paid, but I just expected more-in terms of flavor. I asked for a more spicy salsa, as the one we were given was quite bland- but this one too had very little flavor. Overall, our experience as to the service was excellent. The food itself was just so bad, and very Americanized. We won't be returning, I wish them well. read more

We celebrated a friend's 60th birthday at this location last night and we had such a great experience. The staff here are tremendous! We had the bar upstairs reserved for our gathering. It was a great space. We had a buffet of different items - everything was really delicious. I especially loved the mini chimis! I have to say, the big shout out for the night has to go to the bartenders. Amber and Nicole were our bartenders for this event and they were SO awesome. They took such great care of everyone in our group and they made delicious drinks. They even cut up the birthday cake for us. Has always been my favorite Macayos location since I was a little girl. Many family memories for the last 40 years, and consistently great service, super quick delivery of piping hot plates of yummy food, prices have remained nearly the same for as long as I can remember, and Shawna does a really great job as the long time manager there. Of all the locations I've been to all over the valley, this one has my favorite decor, and a variety of seating areas. It is 10 out of 10! I just adore that fireplace in the middle of the room and the cool light fixtures, not to mention the large shaded dog friendly back patio rests on a lake, so you have a stellar view. Anytime it's weather appropriate it's always our go to for patio seating. If it's too hot even with the misters, we'll sit inside near the window so we still get the same lovely view. This was our 2nd visit to this location. The first wasn't the best. Service was extremely slow but the food was okay. Tonight the service was slow and the food was awful. It took quite a while to have someone greet us and took even longer to get drinks. One entree was good while the other was burnt. And I mean burnt! The tortillas had burned char on them as well. We reported this to the waitress and she offered to ask her manager to take 1/2 off the price of the entree. I did eat some of this so that was probably fair. However, the manager did not bother to come over and speak to us. This will be the last time we visit this location. read more

We stopped in last Tuesday for their 77 cent shredded chicken and shredded beef tacos - BIG mistake! My grand margarita was pretty good, but that's about it. Both the chicken and beef tacos were mediocre (at best) and the service was terrible. Just about everyone at the tables we could see were ordering the $.77 tacos, but evidently the.kitchen wasn't prepared cause it took quite a while for them to come out. We actually tried to order some church's and ice cream at the end (for our granddaughters) but after about a 20 minute wait, we asked our server and he said it was gonna be awhile cause the kitchen hasn't even made the churros yet! I love Mexican food, I came into Macayo's for a friends birthday ordered Chicken Baja Chimi and I'm not a fan of shredded chicken so I sued for grilled. Tyler our server gave no regard to what I'd want or like and just put in the order. When I came out I noticed it was shredded and we let him know but he just brushed it off and stated they couldn't do grilled. His lack of interest for his customers is the worse I've seen. If this was my restaurant I'd want someone who loves their job and listens to customers. I'm extremely disappointed in our service.
