I highly recommend this place if you want some tasty authentic Pho that is more affordable and don't mind having bones in some of your meat. Food was really tasty and seemed very authentic. The chicken in the chicken noodle soup was nice and tender however keep in mind there are bones in the chicken. I absolutely love the iced coffee as it's nice and strong. Service was decent. Came here for a quick lunch with a friend on a weekday. It's very unassuming on the outside, but I'd read good reviews on the Bun bo hue, which is one of my favourites! The inside is extremely spacious - something I didn't expect haha. Service was quick and friendly. Ambiance was quiet and chill. It's a little bit dark in there but it's all good. My friend and I ordered the same thing - Bun bo hue! It was so delicious, and I especially liked their sate (spicy chili oil) on the side, which I added to every bite. Prices here are super fair. It's hard to find affordable Vietnamese food as the cuisine has become trendy and the places that charge a lot are making the cuisine with a modern twist/flare. Service is a bit limited but friendly. You need to be ok with waiting a little bit/be able to catch their attention. You do not come here for the ambiance. It's a decent place to bring kids as it's not a quiet or a fancy place. Their Bun Bo Hue is spicy but flavor is good. They kind of skimp out on the bean sprouts and lemon, but I'm sure you can ask for more. Their spring rolls are made with the traditional Vietnamese wrappers -which are nice. Not the best I've ever had but I prefer this style over the Chinese wonton wrappers. Their beef multi course meals (3-7 beef dishes) are good. Torn writing this review. I've been to Song Huong before, I just thought I had an odd palate. I've tried their other Specialty Dishes before (3 way beef etc...). This time as I was in the area, I had to try their BBH. This is their signature noodle. Let's just say, it's not my Viet/Pho place. Their broth is watery and bland (lemongrass where are you?), my pork hock still had noticeable hair (I still ate it, mainly bc I just finished listening to a pod cast of David Choe being in the jungle and was thinking, this is consumable), I like blood pudding, this tasted super irony as if they didn't store it properly covered in water. The list can go on. The lighting was odd, I felt I was in twilight zone. The positive, nice staff and super efficient. The chilli crisp oil and fish sauce saved my pho. This place has been around forever. I have been here several times over the years. Big menu of viet classics. Overall food is very average. Bun Bo Hue - basically their speciality. Average IMO, but too salty. Pho - avoid. Just not good. No depth of flavour, too salty. "com ba mau" AKA 3 colored rice - really a rice dish with 3 grilled meats. Did not taste freshly grilled, but rather previously grilled and then reheated on the grill. Food overall seems like it has lots of MSG. The venue is dingy and grimy, dimly lit, and just looks dirty. There is a little parking lot alongside the building. Service was friendly. Truthfully the only reason I came here was because its quick and never busy when I go. I'd always remember to visit this place since my parents love this place. So I went here with my parents for lunch yesterday. Their noodles are 7 beef are most recommended from the menu. I've tried 7 beef long time ago there were variety of food to try from congee, grilled meat and etc. Anyways, 3 of us ordered small BunBoHue ($12.50 each). Soup wasn't too salty, but tasted better with some chilli oil. The portion has gotten much smaller than before. Staff didn't miss any pork blood, pork feet and meat toppings in our food at least. Very spacious restaurant - they also leave an empty table in between each group, meeting the social distancing criteria. We had 8 people in our group and so we split into 2 groups of 4 at 2 tables. Not the newest restaurant in town; seatings were worn down and mended together with green duck tape or something like that. Staff all wore masks and had sanitizing supplies at the front entrance table, but our table was not completely spotless. So hope they'll thoroughly wipe down after each group. I ordered my usual go-to at pho places: #2 Pho dac biet, the choice for someone who likes a bit of everything (or if you're indecisive). Name is very easy to remember as well.. I don't remember eating any tripe and the tendons tasted really bad I had to spit it out (i don't know why). Otherwise, rare beef, beef balls, and flank were great and generous portion of noodles. But the star of the night, was really the fried spring rolls. The way they fry it, it's indescribable, and I loved it. Funny thing though, menu says 1 for $3.50, 2 for $6.75, 3 for $9. We asked if we could get 4, well of course we could, and you'd think that'd be a better deal but it was 2 x $.6.75 *facepalm* Another main dish we tried was #47 co'm ba mau (grilled lemon grass pork chops, chicken, BBQ minced pork with steamed rice). Taste: good, but BBQ'ed/ burnt the meat a bit too much for my liking. Overall, spring rolls a winner, rest not too shabby, but not sure if I would go out of my way to come here. They were responsible and checked my vaccine passport before showing me my seat, where I decided to sit in the patio area outside since it was a nice day. Menus are obtained through scanning a QR code. I ordered the dac biet #2 regular size, it was average compared to other pho places I've visited. Portion size was okay, I've seen larger "regulars" elsewhere but it was enough food for me. Only thing I was uncomfortable about were the huge crows that visited the patio tables after the customers left and dunked their heads straight into the pho bowls to devour the soup(?) and whatever food remnants were left. One of my favourite pho places. Food comes out fast, prices are reasonable, and it's tasty. The restaurant has its charm with its unique decor. Over the years, I've visited on various occasions and have always left feeling satisfied from a bowl of pho. I've tried a variety of their items. But today I went with a small #3. Thinly sliced rare beef, and a flavourful broth. It was comforting on a rainy day. One of my favourite things to order is #52- pork and shrimp tapioca dumplings. It's something about the chewy texture of the dumpling skin and the spicy, vinegary sauce that makes it delicious. I don't see it on the menu everywhere so when I get the chance, I order this item. Been a handful of times to eat at Song Huong Vietnamese after hearing about them from a buddy ages ago. They specialize in central Vietnamese food, specifically bun bo hue, bo la lot and bo 7 mon. The inside is massive with two rooms of booth and table seating. They always have a few TV's with the sports channel on. Service is old school but the food comes out quickly and hot. Go up to the counter to pay when you're done. The menu consists of pho, vermicelli, rice dishes, special dishes, appetizers and beverages. - Ca phe phin sua da (#74) ($4.50) - Vietnamese style coffee with condensed milk and ice. Strong. - Herbs - bean sprouts, basil, lime and hot peppers. - Banh cuon cha lua banh cong (#55) ($8.75) - it's a small portion. The banh cuon had a satisfying toothsome bite, just wish they gave more. The deep fried fish/shrimp cake was interesting. - Pho ga chien (#14) ($12.50 large) - liked the broth and the chicken was tender and flavourful. - Thit nuong, banh cong, cha gio, nem nuong (combo 61) ($16.00) - I tried a taste of the spring roll (good filling and crunchy) and BBQ minced pork. - Bun bo hue (#1) ($13.50 large) - broth had depth, complexity and balance. This is one the best one BBH's in Vancouver. - Bun bo ba mon (#37) ($15.00) - haven't seen this dish anywhere else. Grilled meats were all tasty. Not significantly different but subtle. - Cha gio (#58) ($6.75 for 2) - crispy, crunchy and satisfying. - Bun hen (#35) ($12.50) - this came with a side of broth and herbs (banana flower, lettuce and cooked bean sprouts). Excellent and good portion size. - Com suon bo nuong (#51) ($15.00) - the grilled beef short ribs were excellent; sweet, sticky and retain a great pull to them. - Pho tai nam ($12.75 large) - the broth was delicious with star anise really shining through. Rare beef slices were very tender. - Bo 7 mon (#72) ($42.95) - beef prepared in 7 different ways (rare beef slices in a vinegar hot pot, 3 types of grilled beef rolls, beef salad, beef congee and a beef ball). The feast comes with a plate of fresh herbs, vermicelli, rice paper and mam nem (anchovy dipping sauce). I've been wanting to try this for ages. First dish is essentially build your own rolls; cook the beef in the hot pot, dip your rice paper in the bowl of hot water and then add herbs, lettuce, daikon, carrot, pickled scallion, cucumber, bean sprouts and vermicelli. Fun and tasty. Beef congee was smooth and comforting. Beef salad reminded us of a papaya salad; good acidity and crunchy texture. The large beef ball (vermicelli, mushroom and beef) was tasty. Interesting that it's wrapped in beef caul. The three types of grilled beef sausage make up the last three beef dishes. Needed something to eat after skiing in Whistler and looked for Pho place. Pho broth was a little sweet, I suspect MSG..but it was hot and tasty. They have tendons, brisket and all the hardcore meat options. We also got Bún bò Huế, bánh cuốn, cơm sườn nướng and they were all done authentic Vietnamese style. We knew we hit gold when we walked in to silk plants hanging and vinyl chairs..throwback to the mom & pop Vietnamese joints of old. Prices were so reasonable. He wanted to try something new, but the way it was made didn't seem like they make this dish that often, let alone I have never heard someone order a Lemongrass chicken pho lol! "How have you lived in Vancouver your whole life and never heard of The Beef Cooked 7 Ways?!!?" That what my girlfriends said to me (almost in unison) as we were driving downtown for some dinner. As I shrugged it off as no big deal, one of my girlfriends who was pregnant and also the driver almost busted a U-turn on Nanaimo. Apparently, this is the only Vietnamese place in Vancouver that serves Beef Cooked 7 Ways. (#74) If you haven't had a chance to try this, I highly recommend it. The 1st course came with rice paper wrappers, warm bowl of water, small cooking pot with broth, vermicelli, basil, pickled vegetables, lettuce, sauces and of course thinly sliced raw beef. The idea is to cook the beef in the pot (rareness to your liking) and wrap it with any of the ingredients provided. The 2nd and 3rd course was a plate of 2 kinds of Vietnamese meatball/sausages. One were wrapped in grape leaves and the other were wrapped with fatty beef. Same idea, you wrap in the in rice paper wrappers along with your choice of toppings. The 4th course was beef congee. More like filler for most people, but I happen to love congee. The 5th course was a refreshing beef cabbage basil salad with basil and peanuts. The 6th course was more like a small appetizer. It was a huge beef meatball with vermicelli, peanuts and a type of black mushroom. I started to notice that there were only 6 courses, but at this point I was so full I didn't care. One order of #74 is enough to feed 2 people and stuff them to the max. This was dinner last night and I just came back for late breakfast this morning. Two meals in a row? Yes, I know it's obsessive, but we have variety, huge portions, delicious, but simple food and value all in one. This is a winner. read more

You want good pho and vietnamese cuisine at an affordable price, come to this joint, located on Nanaimo street, right off 1st Avenue, North bound. Once you enter, you wonder what you just got yourself into, as it is very spacious and a little dim, and probably in need of a little updating. The things you notice are the bamboo looking tables and decor, the plastic tropical plants, the big fish tank in the front, the big tv playing Vietnamese concerts, and the tacky shale green floor! The menu is full of choices of pho, rice dishes, and some very authentic Vietnamese food. I have to admit, sometimes the service is lacking, where it's hard to flag down one of the servers there, but this place is really about the food, and the price. Just remember when you are looking at the menu, the price includes tax already, what you see, is what you pay, and I think (if memory serves me right) a small bowl of pho is $5.85! One of the best prices in town, without having to sit at a food court. Parking is available on the side streets, as well as a small lot beside the building. Can't park in front, as it's a bus stop. The interior is a bit worn down, with line green walls and lots of painted wood. The furniture seems to be in good shape though, if you don't include the booths. There are 2 large dining areas. Service is decent, and the waitress was quite helpful. The BBH here is overall quite decent, with generous portions of beef, and chunks of pig's blood. Nice generous portion of raw sliced onions up top. Beautiful. The pho toppings were quite fresh too, which is always nice. Soup was spicy but not overwhelming. Song Huong is located on Nanaimo St and 1st Ave in Vancouver. It is a large restaurant as far as Vietnamese restaurants goes and the interior/décor is outdated. I found some good reviews of Song Huong and it serves Bo 7 Mon. Wow... I thought it must be authentic Vietnamese restaurant then. In addition, the menu selection is great. We went there for lunch but we didn't order Bo 7 Mon and we ordered basic dish - PHO! The beef was of low quality and there wasn't much of it or the beef balls in my bowl! My husband ordered BBH, the broth was bland but the ingredients were good. But, I would give them a credit for the best spring roll and grilled BBQ minced pork I had in Vancouver. Okay, sometimes an older restaraunt that hasn't had a renovation in a long time is like a warm hug of familarity. The food was decent and service was prompt and super accurate. Gotta love a server who can take an order for a group and deliver it accurately without writing it down. The Vietnamese spring roll was super crispy and flavourful with authentic rice paper... I always find Vietnamese spring rolls in Chinese egg roll wraps weird. Not the case here! The soup broth was mild in flavour, and I like that they had a house special bowl of pho with a nice variety of meats, including meatballs which is not common. The waitress accurately remembered my request for no tripe, just cause I wasn't in the mood for funk today and beef on the side. The steak was of a nice quality and a bit thicker than I'd normally expect. Word of note, for the rawer beef lovers the meat was icy, so dunk it quickly! Overall, I'd rate this place 3 stars, but on the lower end, cause the warm hug of old decor, also had a weird steaminess in the restaurant. Fog like? I had a lot of lemongrass chicken where it's hard to chew, not enough flavour, or just too charred. This one was balanced in flavour, had a nice sweet tinge to it and not super charred. Great pho! I was a little doubtful of finding this restaurant in the middle of Nanaimo Street, but the pho was worth the wait. Portions are huge! I have no problem eating a large pho at other pho places but at Song Huong, I would opt for a regular in the future. It was our first time here and we noticed that most people had a hot plate on their table. We've been to lots of pho places but hadn't ever seen this before. It's a make your own spring roll dinner kit! You get a pot where you cook your meat. They provide the wraps, sauces, bean sprouts, cucumber, carrots, lettuce, and basil and you make your own meal. This place looks like a big house, with restaurant on the ground floor, and housing above ( I'm assuming ). The interior looks run down as there are some broken/ripped seats, the tables are a bit wobbly but it's big inside. At certain areas, it looks dark. It gets really busy here and it's been around for a while so they've definitely have their regulars. The pho is okay, the broth is good though. Not too salty and I wasn't thirsty after like at some place. This place has the 'beef 7 ways' which I came to do with 7 other people. If you get the beef 7 ways, prepare to get your hands dirty as it does get messy. On that note, make sure to wash your hands before you eat. You get rice wrap so you can wrap up the beef as it comes out. You do get a lot of side dishes of vermicelli, lettuce, basil, etc to put in your wraps. You don't need to wrap it if you don't want to, that is up to you. The flavors of the beef are really good. We order 4 orders of it for 8 people. That was probably enough. I would recommend giving this place a try and if you have a group, you can try the beef 7 ways. =) read more

It must be their specialty because they highlight it on their menu, and it's #1 item on it. The broth is so yummy and the noodles are a thicker spaghetti type noodle... Still soft and easy to eat though. They include a small brick of pig 's blood and pork knuckle with it. It's supposed to be spicy but it isn't really for me so I add more chili flakes to up the hot factor. I also come here when i want something to eat later... While I'm enjoying my pho, I order #47 to go because it has such a good variety of meats (chicken and two types of pork) with rice. It's really good to warm up and eat later plus it's a really good deal! Checked out reviews before deciding to visit for dinner this evening. Their Bun bo hue came highly recommended so i gave it a shot and was very pleased. I rarely order soup but this was delightful. Ordered the large (i was famished) and felt satisfied by the end without being able to finish. The server was amusing when she asked if i can handle spicy when i ordered. I found the spice level was delicious. Their prices are very good. My husband & i both enjoyed our meals (he had the lemongrass chicken with egg on rice) and our bill came to under $20. Parking was good. The restaurant itself is humble & the service friendly. We will certainly return. I think we have a new favorite Vietnamese restaurant here. read more

The second you walk into this restaurant you'll automatically have two thoughts. #1 - This is a pretty big space for Pho. #2 - Why do I feel like I'm in Hawaii?! And I like Hawaii so I enjoyed it. The big restaurant wasn't a huge issue but we were sitting in the far corner and it was a little hard to catch the server's attention. Aside from that, the BBH was delicious. As my friend Steven N. can attest to, there was definitely something delicious about the soup broth but I don't think it was the MSG. PS. I'm not sure if they've changed this but when I went in the summer you had to pay 50 cents to get a side of banana blossoms. read more
