I was very pleased with both the atmosphere and the level of service. The server was very friendly without seeming pushy or fake. I started off with the Calamari appetizer. It was as good as any I've had in my entire life, a good start. My wife had the Caesar Salad, which was a disappointment due to extremely low volume of dressing. All of the portions (appetizer and entrée) were very large. Their daily specials were significantly more expensive than most of the entrées on the menu. I choose a stuffed veal chop special at $49.00. The description was very enticing, but the execution was lacking compared to the price. My wife ordered off the menu and got Vitello alla Parmigiano for $31. I found it good, but not special enough compared to much lower price restaurants. However, I thought the Fingerling potatoes were especially good. The other couple both had a Lobster special at $65 each. They seemed to like what they got. We shared a bottle of 2016 Caparzo Rosso Montalcino wine which was superb and at $48 was reasonably priced for this level of restaurant. I seem to have spent a lot of time talking about prices. I don't often spend $200 for dinner for two, but when I do, I'm expecting to taste the difference, and the taste difference just wasn't there. read more

Another great experience at this fine establishment! Started out with perfectly made martinis. My blue cheese stuffed olives were the best I've ever had! Our waiter was exceptional! Made an awesome recommendation for our bottle of wine as well as evenly dispersing our 3 appetizers onto 2 plates for us. Calamari was in top form once again! I tried the bolognese which was amazing and my date had the veal Marsala which is one of their best known dishes I'm told. It did not disappoint! Always great food and service, still one of the best restaurants on "the Hill" Camille's is like an institution in RI for great Italian food and an still has an old world atmosphere even after the update a few years ago. I loved it before the changeover you felt like you were thrown back in time and you might catch a glimpse of some of the more notorious Federal Hill denizens that held their meetings in the small dining rooms that lined the perimeter of the main dining room. My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience last night at Camille's. Our server, John, was kind and attentive. The food was incredible. To start we ordered the calamari (which is arguably the best calamari I have ever had) and the zucchini flowers on special. They were stuffed with cheese and prosciutto and so good. For our mains we also ordered specials. My boyfriend had the Veal which was smothered in a delicious vodka sauce. I had the lobster casserole. Went last weekend with a friend. We wanted to listen to live music which this establishment usually has on the weekends in the lounge We ordered a couple glasses of wine while sitting at a high top table next to the bar. We were then given menus and ordered a couple appetizers which consisted of grilled Scampi Santiago and calimari. Both apps were great but the jumbo shrimp we're irresistible!! Wrapped in prosciutto with a sambuca flambe glaze, spinach and pine nuts.. Wow. What a delicious combination. The atmosphere and food are always consistent here. So, my wife and I went to Camille's the weekend before Thanksgiving for our sister in law's bday and the food was AMAZING!!! Our waiter Johnathan was the BEST! So cool , and very informative when it came to the menu. While attempting to pick a suitable Federal Hill restaurant in which to have my belated birthday dinner with my co-workers, my boss mentioned his love for Camille's. "Where?" I asked. After living in RI for a large part of my life, I had actually never heard of this place. Big mistake. I've learned my lesson!! After reviewing the menu online, I made reservations here for the four of us. Free valet parking (all you do is tip), excellent service from the moment we walked in, attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff, a menu filled with incredible-sounding options, and a long list of specials that made it just that much harder to choose just one entree. We shared the Scampi alla Santiago appetizer, which was delicious, sweet, salty, crisp, just a great melange of flavors and textures. I had one of the specials, the baked sea scallops with crab meat, bread crumbs, cheese and other yummy flavors. It was incredible! Although I could barely finish it, I stuffed all but one succulent scallop into my mouth. Mmmmmm. So worth the pool of butter and wine in which it was bathing. Finally, my dessert of crepes arrived with a single candle standing on it's own and the words "Happy Birthday" scrawled in chocolate around the perimeter. What a sweet way to end my birthday dinner! Although the prices were on the high side (I wasn't paying for this meal) I would DEFINITELY come back here regardless of the occasion or the price tag. Where to begin.... This isn't hype, this restaurant is excellent & serves decadent cuisine in a sophisticated, plush velvety atmosphere. We have been a few times when in Providence. The 1st time was for the Contender boxing event @ the D&D Center so our private group consisted of approx 30 people. Close to true perfection. Execution on both presentation (art!) & flavor (layered) as well as accuracy of dish is nothing short of stunning. Everything about this place was on point. The service, the decor, and most importantly the food. It is a much fancier restaurant but coming from new york/new jersey the price of less than $80 for an appetizer, two entries, and a glass of wine is nothing compared to the prices you would pay from my neck of the woods. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary dinner. We booked reservations about a month ahead just yo be safe since we were road tripping from new York. We ordered the calamari and it was honestly the BEST calamari I've ever tasted. The flavors mixed with the fried calamari was to die for! We ordered to pasta entrees, the lagsana and the chicken parm. Both were large portions and enough to bring home. Overall, I was trilled with my dinner at Camille's. I recommend this place for anniversary dinners, birthdays, and if you're celebrating something special and want to go somewhere a little fancy. read more

In my opinion this place absolutely lives up to the many superlative 5 star reviews it has received. This is one of several visits I've made over the years and it never disappoints. Exceptional service. Everyone from the valet parkers, to the Maître d', and especially the waitstaff are friendly, prompt, and very polished. Wonderful, refined ambience. You can actually hold a conversation hearing everything said and not having to raise your voice to be heard. The food is peerless. Appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all first rate. I brought two out of town guests who have high expectations regarding food and they were duly impressed as well. The shrimp cocktail was one of the best I've had in recent memory, and one of my guests said the Bolognese was exceptional. Camille's is by far one of the top two Italian restuarants in Providence, RI and the best on Federal Hill. Though I've lived in the state for close to 30 years, my friend 'Barry& Julie' kindly re-introduced me to this gem of a restuarant of exceptional food and service. I try to make it there for lunch at least once a week when I am in town. The food and service are exceptional whether you sit at the bar or in the dining room. For lunch I always have the Chicken Marsala over Linguine. This is,by my estimate, is the best Chicken Marsala in the state (yeah...I've had it at other restaurants on the Hill and in the state). The chicken is perfectly cooked - as is the pasta. The Marsala sauce is deservedly generous. My cocktail accompaniment (Manhattan) is also always excellent. Save yourself the trouble - don't bother trying this dish anywhere else in the state. The atmosphere is great, and the people are 'grown ups'. The bar I enjoy but it may not be for everyone. It' s typically filled with men - some on Power Lunches, others not so much....This is Rhode Island. Do yourself a favor, go there..Just do it. read more

Walked in and it was everything I was hoping for. Warm friendly clean. Sort of a new England charm. Sat down party of 4. Table was so small it couldn't hold a salt and pepper shaker. When we asked for salt and pepper it took 3 tries. Admittedly it was busy. I ordered the rib eye. (Most expensive y thing on the menu. ) it was a grocery store steak at best. The rest of the party meals were so so. The sides were average. With no where to put it. We left disappointed. Told the maitre de and was told "there's nothing I can do" so here's what I can do. Came here for Valentine's Day with my date :). We pulled right up to the front of the restaurant and took advantage of the free valet service, which is so convenient for that area. Walked inside and checked in our coats at the coat check (make sure to tip both the valet and coat check when you leave! Their free services were a special touch on our night) We were a little early for our 6:30 reservation so we took a seat at the bar. They had a great special martini for the occasion consisting of strawberry vodka, prosecco and a couple other strawberry liquors, the drink was called "French kiss". When our table was ready one of the hosts found us in the bar. When we sat down we were given some water and were approached by our waiter. The tables for couples were very close to each other and I felt like I was intruding on the people next to me which was kind of uncomfortable. They had a specialty menu this night which made deciding a lot easier. We had the risotto balls for an appetizer which were nice and crunchy on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside filled with risotto, peas and mozz cheese topped with marinara sauce. For dinner my date got the veal parm which was SOOOO good! The portion was massive and came with a side of penne with sauce. The veal parm was so good that I kept stealing bites from my date. Now for my meal this was the downfall of our dinner. I ordered the shrimp scampi. When placed in front of me it looked delicious, big fat shrimp, pasta and half cherry tomatoes yum! When I took a bite it was flavorless, tried mixing the pasta around in the so called "wine sauce" took a bite and nope no change, tasted like nothing. Looking back I do regret not saying something about this, esp considering the meal was $36. But at a restaurant on federal hill it should be good, and I shouldn't have to say a word. We ordered a piece of chocolate cake with raspberry drizzle after dinner, which was nice and big and we couldn't finish it. When we got our check the waiter game me a rose and wished us a happy Valentine's Day. It makes me sad to give this restaurant one less star. It has such good potential to be a 5 star restaurant. Drove up with our party of 4, had to walk right by a guy who fell and hit his head right by the front door while the paramedics were taking care of his. Kind of weird start to the night. Anyways... For such a famous Italian restaurant, to be honest I expected to be blown away by the food. Unfortunately we just had a pretty decent, albeit expensive, meal. The CALAMARI FRITTI was tasty but fairly standard. The INSALATA CLASSICO was a huge plate of greens, almost too big to be appetizing. Most of our party went with a special for the night. I got the LOBSTER CASSEROLE, which ended up being my most disappointing dish of the night. I was expecting a little creamy pile of seafood topped with lots of bread crumbs, instead it was way too watery and just felt like I was eating straight plain cooked pieces of seafood. On the other hand, my friend really enjoyed her OSSO BUCCO. Another negative point was the service. Our waiter was quite aloof to us. Maybe as 30-somethings', we're not the usual Camille diner. When asking for wine recommendations, he just gave me the cheapest on the list. Rarely, I find that delightful and actually turned to be a wine of great value, but I just had a feeling that this was not the case. He opened up a little more later, perhaps after we ordered a more expensive bottle and some of the most expensive entrees on the menu... We went to Camille's for our office Christmas lunch as we had done in the past over the years. Our boss was met with a verbal assault by a valet and that set the tone. Mind you, the valet is a 60+ man, and knows better. Our boss stayed for all of a half hour and had to leave. I had a conversation with the manager and made him aware of the situation to which he responded, with attitude, that he would comp his meal and the valet had apologized to him (meaning the manager, not the man he verbally assaulted). As for the atmosphere...what a nightmare. There was a private party that had taken over various parts of the restaurant. They were obnoxious and rude...this all before 1:00 p.m. The food was not what it used to be. The food does not taste any better the Olive Garden. The bar was limited with liquor options...not the bartender's fault. The manager was dismissive and just wanted us out of there. In the end our appetizers were comped and the valet stopped my boss in the lot to apologize but the damaged had been done. Going forward we will NEVER step foot in this restaurant again. I was in town for business and three of my colleagues and I went to Camille's. We had reservations for 7 and were greeted promptly and seated immediately. The whole experience was fantastic. A couple of us started with the Caesar salad which had fresh sliced Parmesan cheese and anchovies. They were great. Our meals came at the right time. Two of my friends had the Bolonease, one had the pork chops and I had the Salmon. The portions were very generous and the joke was how were we going to eat it all. My Salmon was excellent and cooked perfectly. Our waiter was also professional and discreet, allowing us to discuss business with little distraction. Disappointing food from my experience but only 1 try. Appetizer was a puff pastry with goat cheese over roasted eggplant with a tomato sauce. It was a great idea and most of it was good except the cheese. I don't know what kind of goat cheese they were using but it was an overpowering aged-tasting cheese that came through with the strength of a bleu cheese. Nothing against bleu cheese but it just didn't work for me. Shrimp diavolo was also disappointing - quite dry and a bit lacking in flavor. To be fair, I got take out. The staff turned on the charm and the food was....the same as it always is...phenomenal. I felt like Fred Flinstone when I got my veal chop. The Polenta was crazy good ----------------- Took the family here about a week ago to celebrate my daughter's 13th birthday. We usually go to a different place in Federal Hill but decided to listen to a friends recommendation and try it out. All I can say is we will be back. We came here for New Years Eve 2017. They had a special menu that had a great selection of yummy food. My boyfriend and I both started with the Cesar salad and normally I don't like croutons but these were really large and crunchy and delicious. I had the Lobster Scampi Fra Diavolo which was very spicy (in a good way) and full of lobster. My boyfriend had the Filet Mignon and said it was the best cut of meat he's had in a while. Both of the cocktails we ordered were strong and tasted great. We obviously had to get dessert and chose the creme brûlée and it was perfection. We also had cappuccinos to end the night - the rock candy that comes with the coffee is so cute. This place is awesome for a normal night and it was just as great for New Years Eve. This is a tricky review to write. Camille's is an old established classy Italian restaurant on Federal Hill, Providence's Little Italy. It is expensive. If you are looking for a cheap plate of spaghetti and meatballs, go elsewhere. Camille's is fine dining. The atmosphere is lavish old world Italian. Valet parking, maitre D, lots of wait staff all formal and efficient. They had a live band in the bar, which was packed. We could hear the music in the dining room which was nice because it was at a volume where we could still chat over dinner, but it was loud enough to hear and enjoy. The band was excellent. The main problem was the food. It is an expensive restaurant and I expected the food to be perfect. We started with the octopus appetizer to share. It came on a full plate and the waiter split it and plated it on 3 separate plates. The concept was good, but the octopus was overly charred, which spoiled the taste. The halibut special was nothing special. The fish was slightly over cooked and the bed of risotto was watery and tasteless. The seafood linguine was also tasteless and my husband ate almost none of it. My mushroom pasta was the best of the 3 and everyone ate from my plate. We took the other 2 meals home and I "fixed" them for the next night's dinner. I only had to add salt and pepper, a few sauteed vegetables, and a little cheese to change them into something good. But still I gave the over all experience 4 stars because the experience of this place was more than the food. It is a kind of dressy, formal place, but in Rhode Island that means you can still get away with relatively clean jeans and a fresh fleece. read more

Best calamari in New England. The gnocchi was a generous and filling portion, but honestly not any better than anywhere else on Fed Hill. You're paying for the experience at Camille's more than the quality of the food. It's definitely good food, but it's surrounded by other places with good food that aren't as expensive.
