Being strongly suggested by friends of ours we took a trip to Federal Hill for some fine Italian dining. This is an elegant and classy establishment with all the fixin's' of warmth, elegance and charm. Though the start of dinner did not get off on the most pleasant of foot due to a rude host, our server Joe made up for this curt behavior. Overall the evening was enjoyable. As for my lasagna dinner, the portion size was good. The lasagna was al Dente, the sauce was superb and the cheese was plentiful. This was the first restaurant I've been to since February because of the coronavirus and it was a great experience. The restaurant followed the proper safety protocols and staff wore their masks, as did the customers until seated. Unfortunately it rained the day of our reservation and they cslled us to offer indoor dining or to cancel. We opted with the indoor dining. When we got there there was only one other couple seated across the room and all the tables they were seating people at were over 8 feet apart. The waiter was extremely helpful and had excellent food recommendations. Everything was phenomenal. I highly recommend thr prosciutto wrapped shrimp as an appetizer. It was delicious and covered in a nice sambuca sauce that had the perfect amount of sweetness to it. The buratta was delicious as well. For the main entrée we went with the ribeye steak and shrimp scampi with the optional lobster tail added on. The steak was perfectly cooked as was the lobster. The scampi sauce was amazing as well. My colleague took me to Camille's for a nice Italian dinner. It was soooo lovely! There is valet, which is definitely the option to take if you don't Uber or Lyft. I would recommend reservations on Open Table too. My colleague took care of this! We were greeted by the host who was so kind! He took us to our table on the patio. Couldn't believe how great the weather was and no one else was on the patio. We started off with Sangria and calamari. The calamari was so yummy especially with the red Sangria. This truly Italian menu was amazing! I had such a hard time selecting what I wanted. I ended up going with the special of the evening, Halibut with Lobster risotto. How fancy is that?! My taste buds were so happy! My colleague got the chicken parmigiana, which is her favorite dish there. It comes with fresh pasta too. She let me try a piece, which was sooo yummy! Excellent service I came here with a friend to celebrate a birthday . I had not been here in years and I was looking forward to coming back to celebrate my friend's birthday. The waiter was super nice and patient. They were short staffed given all of the stuff that's going on. I ended up getting a White Russian for a drink which was excellent. Camille's was the right choice. We only had one night in Providence and wanted a memorable evening at a Federal Hill Italian restaurant and Camille's delivered. We chose to enjoy the mild mid-September temperature and ate outside at the private courtyard and enjoyed the atmosphere. Johnathan was our waiter and was a consummate professional. My lady ordered the Octopus appetizer and I the Clams Casino and we made a passing comment about sharing. When Johnathan returned, he proceeded to divide the servings with the skill of a surgeon. Had a reservation at 7:45pm for 7 and was seated promptly which was nice, but service throughout the night was pretty poor and very delayed -- with the exception of Jack, who was very helpful and prompt in having our leftover entrées packed. The bread, Oysters Rockefeller, and Gamberi Fra Diavolo were pretty good, but I thought the Zuppa Di Pesce with white sauce was pretty average. A nice place for a slow more formal dinner. read more

We went to Camille's for our 25th wedding anniversary. It's always a special treat to go to Camille's. The ambiance is quiet and you can enjoy a conversation without having to talk over loud music or the table next to you. George, the GM, is always friendly and right at the door to greet you. The Maitre d, John Conti, let us know there was room for us to have dinner at the bar. When we arrived, John had placed two "reserved" signs at the bar for us, which was very nice. We've been to Federal Hill many times after going to PPAC for a show, but this was the first time at Camille's and we loved it! The maitre d' did a great job greeting us and had nice sense of humor. The waiter was spectacular! He went over all the specials, answered all our questions and made some great recommendations. We started with some octopus which was well cooked and tender. Waiter also recommended one of the specials which was a flower stuffed and fried which was creative and tasted great! We split a pasta bolognese which didn't disappoint and a fish dish over a ragu of vegetables wish was excellent. The ambiance was classy with a touch of old world charm. Went here for our 8 year anniversary. They have complimentary valet which is very convenient (of course tip your guys). We were quickly sat and then the host realized we came for an anniversary and said "come this way, we have a better table for you" and sat us in a swanky booth. Super nice of him. We would have been happy where we were. We ordered drinks and an app but our mains were the chicken Marsala and the lasagna and I can't speak highly enough. My husband considers himself a lasagna connoisseur and this moved to the top of the best of the best list. I took several bites of it and every time i was saying, "oh my god!" To start--this is the first yelp review I've written in 4 yrs apparently which should serves as a testament to how strongly I feel about my experience here.... We went on New Year's Eve and was very excited as the 'casual elegance' dress code which gave us all a reason to get fancy for the night. I was impressed by the stately yet contemporary decor. Service was very friendly and prompt. My Espresso martini was great but the bread was dry...usually a harbinger for things yet to come but I ignored that and eagerly dove into our apps. Ordered the special (squash flower) which tasted purely of batter but the Calamari was yummy so I still held out hope. Seafood tower came with lobster in the shell, raw oysters and clam, and shrimp cocktail. The lobster was tough and very chewy. Shrimp cocktail was ''mushy" per my sister. Oysters were shucked well but there was no acidic sauce on the side like a mignonette...Instead it came with a brown gravy-like sauce that did nothing to enhance or compliment any flavors of the raw bar items and seemed like a very random and accidental pairing. I dismissed it as a "me" problem, that I was being too picky and expecting too much since the seafood tower was $95. Okay but Then came the entrees and laid before my eyes was the $75 ribeye steak which truly looked like something from Dennys but I held judgment until trying it. Bite after bite I *desperately* searched for any redeeming factor but quickly came to the conclusion that my steak was 1) very likely microwaved based on the absence of any charring of caramelization on the outside 2) not seasoned with a lick of salt or butter 3) definitely comparable to a steak you'd get at Denny's with the exception of the exorbitant price tag (and honestly probably better tasting bc at least they'd have the sense to season it with butter and salt and finish it off on the stove top). I cannot emphasize how disappointing the food was. My husband ordered the halibut and the risotto tasted like something I could've made (and I don't cook). My brother-in-law ordered the seafood casserole and found it to be extremely dry and completely lacking in flavor. My sister enjoyed her salmon but it did not knock her socks off and (ultimately, we think responsible for leaving her in the bathroom for hours). For desserts, the crème brulee was very good but the banana foster crepes were just amateur at best. Nothing elevated about this place except the decor and price. Total bill came to a jaw-dropping $789 which would have been fine if the food was even moderately decent but I considered it all-in-all as just barely edible. After leaving the restaurant I am left searching for answers about a place that has been around to stand the test of time and came very highly recommended. At one point I considered that maybe they were just really busy and slammed on NYEs but we had a 4pm reservation so definitely beat any crowd, plus I am sure they were staffed appropriately given the holiday. Camille's, I am truly at a loss...literally for having just spend nearly a grand for glorified cafeteria food and figuratively having lived through that experience and wondering how an establishment that could service what essentially amounted to dog food could remain open after all these years and be so highly esteemed. This restaurant has been around since 1914 and is his professionally run joint as I've ever been to. Beautiful interior with a few modern touches in a house and a beautiful bar. Our waiter John was as accommodating as can be as well as the kitchen granting every request I made. had the shrimp scampi delicious the clams casino is a must and meatball sandwich was amazing and they made me a special veal piccata which was delicious. The wines by the glass had a great variety. This is a must visit if you're ever in Providence. read more

My boyfriend and I agree that we would go back just for the tiramisu. That being said the service was super slow, we were here for over 2 hours. Doesn't look like much on the outside but the inside is amazingly cozy and a fantastic date spot. My husband and I have been there on both a holiday/busy night and a slow lunch... both times, the food was delicious. We are fans of their calamari fritti and desserts (like the chocolate cake or tiramisu)! No matter what time of the day we've gone, the service has always been excellent but we do prefer the lunch hours (it's much more leisurely/peaceful) . We always appreciate the appetizer being split into two plates for convenience when it reaches our table. The food's timeliness in general has been great for their available seating but is at its best during lunch hours; with less people in the establishment, servers' attention to the tables were impeccable yet privacy is given for the different parties. Just yesterday during lunch, our server (Johnathan) took mighty great care of us! We especially loved how attentive they the staff was and yet, they weren't bothering us every 5 mins of the meal. Food was coming out at a pace where as soon as we'd finish a course, there was a 5-minute breather to talk to one another before the next dishes arrived. Made reservations here for my birthday. Food was pretty good but didn't have that total wow factor i was expecting. Drinks were a little slow to come out. The calamari and oysters to start were delicious. I saw a lot of reviews raving about the pork chop so i got that. It was good but it was a bit over cooked. My partners steak was was pretty flavorful. They both came with mashed and veggies which were good but just nothing to be super excited over. Our server was very nice. The place wasn't as packed as i expected it to be. I would try again but maybe stick with a pasta dish or something. read more

I wish I could give a better review. We started with the crab cake appetizer. Where is the crab? Not in the crab cakes. If I was going to pay for bread crumbs, I would have stuck to the fresh bread in the basket. Moving on to main course. My husband had the world famous lasagna. Terribly underwhelming. And that comes from someone who will almost always finish his plate. Failed on all fronts, taste, consistency, and looks. There is a chamge it tastes like the frozen meal lasagna from the freezer of your local grocery store. I had the ravioli with crab meat. It was the better of the dishes, but something was off with it too. Too acidic? We passed on dessert in fear of more disappointment. The waiter was friendly and funny. I've been to Camille's a few times before. Whenever I visit Rhode Island from Boston I love I love going to Federal Hill And this restaurant is a landmark. I love the elegance and atmosphere. This last stop was with friends and 4 kids. The waiter did not bat an eye when he had a table full of children lol! In fact he was so warm and welcoming the children adored him as did the adults! He suggested meatballs and linguini for the kids which they devoured. We had the following dishes and they were exceptional! He suggested the Rhode Island calamari and said they were the best on Federal Hill and when you hear that you often wonder if it's true? He was not wrong! The kids even enjoyed them. They were simply scrumptious. At the end of the meal our 8 year old said we need to come back here! This is what outstanding customer service does to you. I booked this restaurant for my husband and his colleagues for dinner tonight and I was very disappointed with my choice. Service was rushed. The waiter clearly wasn't interested in helping us with the extensive menu. He literally said to us "if we weren't ready that he had other orders to take." So rude! The drinks were okay, but the food was very mediocre for the price. No one said that they liked their food. One person in our party didn't even eat their meal because it was so bad. I ordered the Arancini and Pappardelle Bolognese and found them both to be pretty bland. They should at least put salt and pepper on the table if they don't season the food correctly. The desserts were the only thing that we enjoyed. With all of the rave reviews it makes me wonder what we did to be treated so shabbily, but I'm sure glad that we weren't paying for it! read more
