The food isn't good at all, but the building has a quite amazing history (how it was built with local logs ...). This is one of the few local restaurants (if not the only one!) around Portland that gives 1/2 ounce Smucker's jam for breakfast/brunch. 50 years in Oregon and today was my first time here. Been meaning to stop for years. First of all, the food was a hit and a miss. My burger was okay but the patty itself was mediocre and, I'm assuming, a frozen patty. Didn't finish it. My husband had the kielbasa breakfast skillet and practically licked it clean. So one hit, and one miss. The old logging equipment on the property is interesting and the creek side location is fantastic. The restaurant building, however, is amazing. From the variety of old tables....some made of sawed down old logs...to the insanely huge beams that span the dining room, there are more things to see than you'll have time for. Great history of the logging business and great old items to support it. Will go again and try a new dish, just to have that old country hometown feel at dinner. read more

Lightly breaded and flaky and fresh. -The kids pb&J was basic and fine, just how my son likes it -corn chowder didn't look amazing but tasted great! - service was great! This place gets a 3 star rating mostly based on the service. The hostess wasn't very personable, just kind of grabbed some menus, led us to a table, set them down and said here you go as she walked away. The waitress took about 20 minutes to even acknowledge us and ask us what we'd like to drink, even though she had taken an order from a couple seated after we sat down. Fairly long wait for food. Admired the building and infrastructure while we waited, it was a beautiful place. When our food arrived, my eggs Benedict was definitely over cooked. No runny yolk (my favorite part ) and the ham was too thick and dry. Picked off his plate mostly. Our waters weren't refilled when she'd come by. My boyfriends waffle was amazing however, as well as his bacon and eggs. The rest of the area was beautiful, we went on that short trail nearby, took a lot of fun pictures. Would I come back? 5 stars for atmosphere and 5 stars for their breakfast menu! The waffles and omelets are very yummy and filling. My friend told me to try the cinnamon rolls but haven't yet. I've been here many times and never get tired of the food. I love all the wood work and the stuffed mountain lion and elk. They have a lot of artwork to look at. The service is friendly and attentive. This place is a great place to stop before heading out to Portland from the coast. There is a stream behind the cabin a nice place to take pictures. We stopped here on the way from the beach back to Seattle and were really glad we did! The clam chowder and beef stew were delicious and big portions for lunch. The building is really cool and hand built by the owner. The staff was friendly. There are nice picnic tables outside for anyone who is bringing their own lunch and some equipment that would be interesting to kids (and plenty of adults). Also grabbed taffy and jam at the gift shop- YUM! read more

My recent dining experience at Camp 18 has put a bad taste in my mouth, pun INtended. My family and I have always had a great experience coming here in the past years but today we experienced service way below what was expected. My mother, my sister and all of our kids (11 people in total) ate here for dinner tonight and my sister and I both ordered the 12 oz NY steak medium. We don't like it bloody, or overcooked so we wanted some pink. When our steaks arrived at our table they were so well done that mine was charcoal burnt on the sides and they were both just plain dry and flavorless. When we brought it to the attention of the waitress, she said thats what a medium steak looks like... Now I want you to look up a steak wellness chart on google images and tell me if a medium steak is completely brown and burnt black on the sides. Even though the manager replaced those steaks with properly cooked ones, we were both pretty upset with this seeing as the steak was $30, the mac n cheese for my children was nasty Kraft from a box, and they charged us a %15 gratuity because our group was over 8 people. Even though I paid separately from my sister, whose party was NOT over 8 people, and they separated our kids across the entire building. Overall, the service and the attitude we received from this restaurant was dismissive and honestly felt disrespectful. This was my first time to the restaurant and it was terrible. My brother and I ordered medium-well steaks and they both came out charred and well-done. I told the waitress and she dismissively said, "that's how our cook makes all medium-well steaks". What?!?! Then you could've told us when ordering that we were going to get a piece of cardboard. After a few bites we just couldn't eat it and requested to return them. She told us she could give us 10% off our check and I told her I'm not paying $30 for charred dry steak! She went and talked to the manger and came back and took our plates which still had our roasted veggies. 10 minutes later she returned with beautiful medium-well steaks, but no veggies...(face palm). Not wanting to hassle them anymore we just ate and got our check. When the check came it had a 15% gratuity!!! The service was terrible, the food was sub-par and they have the nerve to charge a 15% gratuity? I spoke with the manager about removing it and he said it was mandatory because there were more than 8 people in the party. However, due to COVID we were at 2 separate tables clear across the whole building AND my brother paid separate for his group of 3 and I paid for my group of 7, yet we were still charged for a group larger than 10.... Such BS. Just super unimpressed with this place. I will not be returning and I will never recommend them to anyone. Also, their mac and cheese for the kids was out of a box. Kraft. Gross. I expected a lot more from a family owned long-standing restaurant like this. Very disappointed. read more

The lemonade was watered down, the burgers were bland (waitress said they don't put seasoning( NO SALT!!??) and had ridiculously huge buns and the Chicken wings my husband and myself ordered were RAW. This place is adorable and an eye catcher my husband and I were headed up to Seaside, OR and saw this cute spot and decided to stop on the way back home after our weekend Vacation. Fun place to stop in with the kids, ours loved exploring outside. Bacon was delicious, cinnamon roll as tasty and big as a tire (yet stuffed with disgusting raisins - they should state as much on the menu), hot chocolate was good. Chicken fried steak was the ABSOLUTE WORST I've ever had. The breading tasted like plain flour with no seasoning and was gummy. Usually when I order this, the meat is tender and can be cut with the side of my fork. Not here, I could barely cut it with a steak knife it was so tough. I've passed this place for years, always with the intent of stopping, and never seeming to remember where it was until it's too late. This time, I managed to stop, and I'm glad I did! The building is stunning, we sat under the huge center beam in awe over the fact that we could see the rope and chain burns from where it had been hauled into place years before. Their servers are attentive, but also keep their distance and don't interrupt a dozen times checking in with you. The food is delicious, those at my table marveled at the fact that it tastes like real food, not the frozen over processed stuff you pick up for a dollar at the drive thru. This tastes like food made at home. There are photos on the walls showing what a loggers life and work was like. CRAZY to think that these people did so much without things like gas and electricity! The grounds are a museum of antique logging equipment, and it's mind boggling to see the size of some of it. We would have spent more time wandering, but we exhausted from travel and ready for home. The only complaint we have is that the chairs aren't exactly suited for larger than average people, so ask to swap the arm rest chair for one of the ones in the center of the room if you can. All bun and not much else. Ordered the Riggin' boss Togo for dinner and was really upset when I opened my box. First off I saw the pictures of other patrons before ordering the burger, I knew it was a big bun. This bun was bigger than the pictures, an inch bigger than the patty all around. It is advertised with a side of blue cheese dressing, I received none. Without it it was incredibly dry. It does not come with fries, but specifically asked for them and did not receive them. The only upside is they didn't charge me for them. Make sure to check your food before leaving and double check the receipt. As others have stated, the decor, ambiance and overall look of the place are great--so much to see and experience! Definitely worth a stop and plan for a few minutes to wander around outside if the weather is nice. The actual food part of the restaurant is nothing special however. Basically your typical diner-type food--OK burgers, salads, etc. If you have kids ordering from the Kids' Menu please be aware that the "mac and cheese" is from a box! My kids were definitely disappointed to discover it wasn't the cheesy and creamy dish they were expecting, but rather what they get at home on a rushed day. The accompanying plastic container of applesauce or mandarin oranges made it seem even more cheap (but at $6 each, hardly a bargain). When I mentioned my kids' disappointment to the server, she basically shrugged it off. Same with the cashier when we went up to pay--she asked how everything was and when I told her it was boxed Mac and Cheese, she exclaimed, "Oh! I didn't know they did that." Hmmmm. The gravy was made from powder and still gritty and same with the mashed potatoes, there was something off with them. The waitress cane out of the kitchen then yelled back asking for someone to stick her tables food in the microwave. Ya know it's not going to be a good thing when your food has been microwaved! A fun place and a impressive log structure. We asked if the corned beef hash was prepared fresh or canned. The waiter said they made it in house. Honestly I dont care if your restaraunt serves canned corned beef hash, many do. Just dont lie to me. I'd rather order something else if it's not fresh. What a bummer. Canned corned beef hash is impossible to pass off as fresh. Its not gross but its not good either. When we told the waiter, he just said he was new and didnt know. Maybe true, but you told us you did know! He took 3.00 off the cost of the 13.00 meal which frankly I thought was insufficient for a meal we wouldnt of ordered if they hadn't misled us. The review is strictly on the service. Came here on a Saturday, around 5:30pm. We were very excited to try this place as we have driven by it on the way to the coast earlier in the day. When we arrived, it was not particularly busy (about half the tables were empty). A couple was in front of us waiting patiently, while two other patrons were waiting to pay. From the lack of interaction from the restaurant staff, the couple in front of us have not been greeted nor the people waiting to pay have been acknowledged. About five to ten minutes have went by, we hear from one of the wait staff "we will be with you shortly". When someone was finally available, they cleared the checks first, then proceed to grab a few menus and led the couples to a table. As one of the customers was making her way to the exit, she said this, "you probably will not get your food at this rate". Judging by the situation and the lack of service, we decided not to eat here. Perhaps it was an off day for the staff or they were short-handed, either way, they seemed disinterested in helping us that day. read more

We stumbled across Camp 18's Mother's Day buffet (pre pandemic) and we were super impressed! Great food, two tables of choices including a ham and roast beef carving station! We loved it and couldn't wait to go back. Fast forward to Mothers Day 2023, we made reservations for 11:00 and still had to wait until almost 11:30 to be seated and wait for the spoons to be put in the dishes and the covers to be removed. Finally we were able to serve ourselves. There was one table and no carving station. The fried potatoes were undercooked and blah, the scrambled eggs were powdered eggs and were a strange texture, very soft and there was an underlying powdery feel to them on the palate, the bacon was perfect and tasted amazing, the sausage links were tasteless except for the overwhelming taste of sage, I believe they were Turkey sausage (yuck). The biscuits and gravy had no flavor, I believe they used the same Turkey sausage in the very watery gravy, salt didn't even help it. The pork loin on the other hand was so salty it was inedible, the salmon was overcooked and dry. The desserts were delicious though. All in all we were very disappointed and will never go back to the buffet that we looked forward to for several years. I first sent this via the website contact page, but have not received a reply in a week. So here it is: On Sunday, 8/5/18, we stopped for an early dinner. We were seated promptly, and water and other drinks were also delivered quickly. Food order was placed and side salad was brought out. Then... we waited almost 30 minutes for the dinners to arrive. During this time, no one came to check on our drinks, even though our server delivered food to two adjacent tables to us. When the food was delivered, we were asked about our drinks. Vegetables served were almost mush! Our grandson was disappointed with the size of the Flat Iron Steak Special. Maybe state the size of the steak when you offer it again? No checking on us, again, until the check was brought. Not nearly as pleasant an experience as we have had in the past. We were not disappointed in the outdoor equipment display. read more

I feel like this is a place you'd visit for the fun, rustic ambience rather than the food/overall experience. My breakfast wasn't bad, but it was certainly not worth the high price we paid. Add to that the general disinterest of our servers, the lukewarm and acidic coffee (to which you can add individually sealed packets of cream), and the painfully long wait between being seated and having someone take our order. I'm not sad that I visited once, but I doubt I'll be back. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a long time and wanted to love it. A little disappointed. I'd say the best part of my meal was the cinnamon roll. I ordered prime rib and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were a little thick for my liking and asparagus were a bit over cooked. My husband had the pan fried oysters and they were not fully cooked as the breaded part felt uncooked. I do have to say the decor is lovely. Looks like a big log cabin with a big fireplace just a warm and cozy feeling you get when you walk in. Passed by this place so many times and finally decided to stop. Two things, coffee and their huge cinnamon rolls. Both are super delicious. The cinnamon roll is the size of your head! Had the breakfast skillet and clam chowder which were only ok. Definitely go before noon if you can, wait gets gets long. Also, there is an open seating lounge with about 5 to 6 tables and a bar upstairs if you can snag a table. Large menu with breakfast served until 2pm. read more

I've driven by here innumerable times, but I was never in need of sustenance. So, on my last trip to Astoria, I made a point to plan. I am glad that I did! I looked over their menu. I wanted a hearty seafood breakfast, and first I saw the pan-fried oyster breakfast. Win! Then I saw the razor clam breakfast. Oooh! Another win! Finally, my eyes drifted to a trout breakfast. OMG! That is a breakfast from my childhood, and one which I've had intermittently through my adult life, both in restaurants, and home-cooked. I want this to be one of my final meals in life! I knew what I wanted! I walked in about noon on a Friday, and was seated at a table with a view of the exterior. The ambiance is essentially rustic, wood-hewn charm, which is terrific. My server quickly took my order, and brought me water (I had been caffeinating throughout my drive from Portland). The food came quite quickly. Two sunny-side up eggs, hash browns, and a golden-brown trout filet. The eggs were a little sloppily cooked, but were still runny. The hash browns were cubed, yet crisp, as I like them. The trout? Perfectly cooked. The bread was a biscuit, which was homemade, yet really disappointing. I also ordered a side of gravy, which was actually quite good, but not great. I had lots of leftovers, which nourished me when I returned to Portland. Huge portions, at a wonderful value. I will definitely be returning on my next trip to points on the northern Oregon coast.
