First I would like to open with the restaurant is beautiful, combined with the atmosphere outside of the chainsaw wood carvings and the historical logging equipment. The area behind the restaurant is also quite amazing with the trail next to the water. Now for the sad part. Most of the food was disgusting and all of it was severely overpriced (we are talking it would be overpriced if this place was in Portland, thats how overpriced). The only redeeming thing was the cinnamon roll, which was slightly above average (yes it is big, but that doesn't fix everything). Now to pick apart why the food was so bad. So we ordered breakfast, a meal that for most restaurants of this nature is their bread and butter. We ordered the breakfast rainbow trout with homemade fried potatoes and eggs over easy, and a biscuit ($17), and the biscuits and gravy combo, 1 biscuit, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 eggs scrambled ($12), and cinnamon roll ($7). The trout breakfast ($17): The trout was filleted so that both fillets remained connected to each other, filleting like this results in a lot of bones remaining on trout. No seasoning on the trout at all, but was fried correctly. The homemade potatoes consisted of frozen potatoes that tasted heavily of freezer burn, were not seasoned, and were overcooked in a baking sheet and were served cold. The over easy eggs were rubbery, unseasoned and cold. The biscuit was inedible. Biscuit and gravy combo ($12): Same biscuit, small, tasted old, was stale but being smothed in gravy can normally redeem most biscuits. Not in this case. The gravy had a strange taste to it, was loaded in tiny bits of ham (not sausage?) that provided no flavor at all. Bacon and sausage were fine.. Scrambled eggs were flavorless, unseasoned, rubbery, and cold.. Cinnamon Roll ($7): The cinnamon roll did taste good, and was the only thing we had that either of us wanted a second bite of. It's big, but at $7 was still overpriced. Have had similar cinnamon rolls at many other touristy restaurants across Oregon and none of them have ever been more than $5, and all were still bigger than the one here. Bonus, the staff: In all my years visiting diners and restaurants I had never once seen a member of staff sit down and drink a glass of whiskey and a beer while still in uniform. Let alone the whole staff gathering around like the restaurant was closed during business hours, let alone, right next to patrons of the restaurant. I am hopeful that the owner sees this review and takes it to heart. Your restaurant has such an amazing potential, and according to my girlfriend who has been visiting for many years used to be the place to go. You need to address the quality of the food thats being served, and the professionalism of your staff. Your price tags on your meals are only fitting if your food is good and your staff can act professionally. read more

It looks quite intriguing from the outside, and some research whetted my intrigue (and appetite!) even more when I discovered their specialty was good home Southern cooking. It was lunch time on the way back from Cannon Beach, so it seemed like a perfect time to check it out. The restaurant itself doubles as a museum, so after you park there are lots of cool old things to look at, take pictures of, and more. There is even a hiking trail along the river that runs behind the restaurant, and a gift shop as well. The restaurant is a massive log cabin and has a pretty amazing ambiance, with lots of cool things hanging on the walls and very rustic looking tables and chairs. The place was busy when we arrived, but we didn't have to wait too long before being seated. They have a good sized menu consisting of appetizers, a large number of sandwiches, burgers, and a variety of dinner entrees. We started with deep fried zucchini, and it was fantastic. I have typically had fried zucchini as wedges, but Camp 18 serves them chip style like you would typically get fried pickles. The batter was done very well with a nice crisp and flavor, complementing the zucchini just nicely, and the ranch dressing served as a great dipping sauce. Definitely a great way to start the meal! There were a number of things ordered at the table for lunch, but I will highlight two of them. My son ordered the Lumberjack Burger with a side of potato salad. This beast of a burger came topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, onion rings and BBQ sauce. It was huge and apparently quite delicious. Once I saw that country fried steak was an option, I knew what I was going to order. The steak itself was a huge portion, both in overall size and in thickness. It was served over mashed potatoes and literally smothered with their homemade sausage gravy. It also came with a veggie, and that day it was carrots. The steak was very flavorful and battered perfectly, and the gravy was scrumptious and tasted like it was made for the steak. The mashed potatoes were also quite good, and the carrots, though nothing special, were prepared well and also tasted good. It was a delightful and hearty meal. At this point I was quite stuffed, but we learned that Camp 18 is famous for the cinnamon rolls. Knowing this, how could one not get ordered? The waitress warned they were huge, so we only ordered 1 for the table. I kid you not, this thing was as big as my son's face, oozing with icing and even a dollop of butter on top. And boy was it good, like utterly ridiculously good. There were probably more calories in that one roll than in all the other food ordered combined, but it was well worth it, and I savored every bite. I would go back again just to get one. The place was quite busy, but we were quite pleased with the service, as it was attentive and very helpful with questions. The quality of the food was great, and the portions were quite large, all while not being too expensive, so I felt like the food to price ratio was very good. The ambiance is about as cool as you can get and is quite different for the Pacific NW, and the extracurricular stuff you can do, including working off that cinnamon roll with a short hike along the river, really provides a unique and fun experience. Camp 18 is a bit off the beaten path, but if you are on Highway 26 heading to or from the beach, it is a fantastic spot to enjoy a delicious meal. read more

I ordered the Denver omelet with potatoes and biscuit. There was nothing wrong with the meal but there was nothing that stood out either. I wish I had loved the food even a tiny bit as much as the decor. I loved the visuals that showcased the history of logging in the area. But the flavors were, well, the rather-bland flavors one might expect from a diner. The rainbow trout country breakfast had perfectly-cooked trout, but it was a bit too fishy. Over-easy eggs were well-executed. Biscuit was light and fluffy. But overall taste of potatoes and other components were not exciting. I'd passed this restaurant numerous times on adventures to the coast, and always intended to try it. The outside is easy to pass; it seems like a total tourist trap (spoiler alert, it is, but well worth it!) so I hadnt ever stopped. On a trip with my husband, we wrote it into our itinerary. We took our toddler, a 1 year old with a penchant for moving and strict dietary restrictions (allergic to casein). There were options for her, which was wonderful, and the husband and I enjoyed the steak special. The prices were a wee inflated, but being basically the only restaurant between Seaside and Portland has that advantage of supply and demand. The staff were kind and attentive, and the setting is beautiful. There is a gift shop for the touristy trap things, and theres some lovely candies you can purchase from the entryway. My husband and I, ever the animal lovers, were pleased to see they have taken on working cats for their property, letting them enjoy mousing and working instead of being off in a shelter somewhere, or worse. They are friendly too, having been accustomed to people traipsing in and out. One big boy was particularly kind. There are a lot of beds for them too, though I do hope theres a warm shelter on the premises for when its chilly and rainy. There was plenty to look at for my daughter while we waited for food. My husband let her walk around the gift shop and the outdoors while our food was made. We will go back again :) read more

This is one of the few local restaurants (if not the only one!) around Portland that gives 1/2 ounce Smucker's jam for breakfast/brunch. I've been here many times and never get tired of the food. I love all the wood work and the stuffed mountain lion and elk. They have a lot of artwork to look at. 50 years in Oregon and today was my first time here. Been meaning to stop for years. First of all, the food was a hit and a miss. My burger was okay but the patty itself was mediocre and, I'm assuming, a frozen patty. Didn't finish it. My husband had the kielbasa breakfast skillet and practically licked it clean. So one hit, and one miss. The old logging equipment on the property is interesting and the creek side location is fantastic. The restaurant building, however, is amazing. From the variety of old tables....some made of sawed down old logs...to the insanely huge beams that span the dining room, there are more things to see than you'll have time for. Great history of the logging business and great old items to support it. Will go again and try a new dish, just to have that old country hometown feel at dinner. read more

The hostess wasn't very personable, just kind of grabbed some menus, led us to a table, set them down and said here you go as she walked away. The waitress took about 20 minutes to even acknowledge us and ask us what we'd like to drink, even though she had taken an order from a couple seated after we sat down. Fairly long wait for food. Admired the building and infrastructure while we waited, it was a beautiful place. When our food arrived, my eggs Benedict was definitely over cooked. No runny yolk (my favorite part ) and the ham was too thick and dry. Picked off his plate mostly. Our waters weren't refilled when she'd come by. My boyfriends waffle was amazing however, as well as his bacon and eggs. The rest of the area was beautiful, we went on that short trail nearby, took a lot of fun pictures. Would I come back? My recent dining experience at Camp 18 has put a bad taste in my mouth, pun INtended. My family and I have always had a great experience coming here in the past years but today we experienced service way below what was expected. My mother, my sister and all of our kids (11 people in total) ate here for dinner tonight and my sister and I both ordered the 12 oz NY steak medium. We don't like it bloody, or overcooked so we wanted some pink. When our steaks arrived at our table they were so well done that mine was charcoal burnt on the sides and they were both just plain dry and flavorless. When we brought it to the attention of the waitress, she said thats what a medium steak looks like... Now I want you to look up a steak wellness chart on google images and tell me if a medium steak is completely brown and burnt black on the sides. Even though the manager replaced those steaks with properly cooked ones, we were both pretty upset with this seeing as the steak was $30, the mac n cheese for my children was nasty Kraft from a box, and they charged us a %15 gratuity because our group was over 8 people. Even though I paid separately from my sister, whose party was NOT over 8 people, and they separated our kids across the entire building. Overall, the service and the attitude we received from this restaurant was dismissive and honestly felt disrespectful. This was my first time to the restaurant and it was terrible. My brother and I ordered medium-well steaks and they both came out charred and well-done. I told the waitress and she dismissively said, "that's how our cook makes all medium-well steaks". What?!?! Then you could've told us when ordering that we were going to get a piece of cardboard. After a few bites we just couldn't eat it and requested to return them. She told us she could give us 10% off our check and I told her I'm not paying $30 for charred dry steak! She went and talked to the manger and came back and took our plates which still had our roasted veggies. 10 minutes later she returned with beautiful medium-well steaks, but no veggies...(face palm). Not wanting to hassle them anymore we just ate and got our check. When the check came it had a 15% gratuity!!! The service was terrible, the food was sub-par and they have the nerve to charge a 15% gratuity? I spoke with the manager about removing it and he said it was mandatory because there were more than 8 people in the party. However, due to COVID we were at 2 separate tables clear across the whole building AND my brother paid separate for his group of 3 and I paid for my group of 7, yet we were still charged for a group larger than 10.... Such BS. Just super unimpressed with this place. I will not be returning and I will never recommend them to anyone. Also, their mac and cheese for the kids was out of a box. Kraft. Gross. Bacon was delicious, cinnamon roll as tasty and big as a tire (yet stuffed with disgusting raisins - they should state as much on the menu), hot chocolate was good. Chicken fried steak was the ABSOLUTE WORST I've ever had. The breading tasted like plain flour with no seasoning and was gummy. Usually when I order this, the meat is tender and can be cut with the side of my fork. Not here, I could barely cut it with a steak knife it was so tough. I've passed this place for years, always with the intent of stopping, and never seeming to remember where it was until it's too late. This time, I managed to stop, and I'm glad I did! The building is stunning, we sat under the huge center beam in awe over the fact that we could see the rope and chain burns from where it had been hauled into place years before. Their servers are attentive, but also keep their distance and don't interrupt a dozen times checking in with you. The food is delicious, those at my table marveled at the fact that it tastes like real food, not the frozen over processed stuff you pick up for a dollar at the drive thru. This tastes like food made at home. There are photos on the walls showing what a loggers life and work was like. CRAZY to think that these people did so much without things like gas and electricity! The grounds are a museum of antique logging equipment, and it's mind boggling to see the size of some of it. We would have spent more time wandering, but we exhausted from travel and ready for home. The only complaint we have is that the chairs aren't exactly suited for larger than average people, so ask to swap the arm rest chair for one of the ones in the center of the room if you can. We stopped here on the way from the beach back to Seattle and were really glad we did! The clam chowder and beef stew were delicious and big portions for lunch. The building is really cool and hand built by the owner. The staff was friendly. There are nice picnic tables outside for anyone who is bringing their own lunch and some equipment that would be interesting to kids (and plenty of adults). All bun and not much else. Ordered the Riggin' boss Togo for dinner and was really upset when I opened my box. First off I saw the pictures of other patrons before ordering the burger, I knew it was a big bun. This bun was bigger than the pictures, an inch bigger than the patty all around. It is advertised with a side of blue cheese dressing, I received none. Without it it was incredibly dry. It does not come with fries, but specifically asked for them and did not receive them. The only upside is they didn't charge me for them. Make sure to check your food before leaving and double check the receipt. As others have stated, the decor, ambiance and overall look of the place are great--so much to see and experience! Definitely worth a stop and plan for a few minutes to wander around outside if the weather is nice. The actual food part of the restaurant is nothing special however. Basically your typical diner-type food--OK burgers, salads, etc. If you have kids ordering from the Kids' Menu please be aware that the "mac and cheese" is from a box! My kids were definitely disappointed to discover it wasn't the cheesy and creamy dish they were expecting, but rather what they get at home on a rushed day. The accompanying plastic container of applesauce or mandarin oranges made it seem even more cheap (but at $6 each, hardly a bargain). When I mentioned my kids' disappointment to the server, she basically shrugged it off. Same with the cashier when we went up to pay--she asked how everything was and when I told her it was boxed Mac and Cheese, she exclaimed, "Oh! I didn't know they did that." Hmmmm. A fun place and a impressive log structure. We asked if the corned beef hash was prepared fresh or canned. The waiter said they made it in house. Honestly I dont care if your restaraunt serves canned corned beef hash, many do. Just dont lie to me. I'd rather order something else if it's not fresh. What a bummer. Canned corned beef hash is impossible to pass off as fresh. Its not gross but its not good either. When we told the waiter, he just said he was new and didnt know. Maybe true, but you told us you did know! He took 3.00 off the cost of the 13.00 meal which frankly I thought was insufficient for a meal we wouldnt of ordered if they hadn't misled us. The review is strictly on the service. Came here on a Saturday, around 5:30pm. We were very excited to try this place as we have driven by it on the way to the coast earlier in the day. When we arrived, it was not particularly busy (about half the tables were empty). A couple was in front of us waiting patiently, while two other patrons were waiting to pay. From the lack of interaction from the restaurant staff, the couple in front of us have not been greeted nor the people waiting to pay have been acknowledged. About five to ten minutes have went by, we hear from one of the wait staff "we will be with you shortly". When someone was finally available, they cleared the checks first, then proceed to grab a few menus and led the couples to a table. As one of the customers was making her way to the exit, she said this, "you probably will not get your food at this rate". Judging by the situation and the lack of service, we decided not to eat here. Perhaps it was an off day for the staff or they were short-handed, either way, they seemed disinterested in helping us that day. read more
