We dined at Camp during our stay at The Inn at Mill Falls. Camp was A-OK and a solid 3 to 3 1/2 stars. Be prepared for uber-kitschy, over-the-top rustic hunting lodge in a box décor, complete with mounted moose and deer heads (I pray these were fake!) and carefully curated carvings in the wooden tabletops. The place is fairly small so there's no escaping the décor. Young children will probably get a really big kick out of most of it, unless they have a tender heart for deer! They do not take reservations, but if you are a guest at one of the four Mill Falls hotels, they will put you on the 'preferred' list if you call ahead, meaning you go to the head of the line to wait for a table. Sorry, locals! Service was better than average, manager stopped by to greet us - possibly because we told the waitress it was our first visit? Martinis were slam-dunk; way better than what you'd expect at the ol' campsite. We both had the ribs which were quite tasty, good sauce, very tender but sorry, not falling off the bone. Needed a little extra pull with the fork to get 'em off. The accompanying vegetable blend was unique and good. It was my birthday after all so we went for the Lemon Torte dessert which was off the charts. No matter what else you eat here, leave room for a Lemon Torte. We took a second serving back to the hotel and shared it for breakfast next day! They also put out cheese and crackers as a help-yourself free appetizer. Some people may not care for this, as it's actually right at the entrance, and you (and everyone else who has passed through or gone back for more) slice your own cheese with the provided knife. Those who are squeamish if a deli counter worker is not wearing gloves will probably want to pass on this perk! Overall, would not be my first choice of the local dining but we did enjoy it. read more

If I am ever sentenced to execution, likely for stealing onion rings from Camp, I would like for my last meal to be onion rings and steak tips from Camp. This was the best meal I have ever tasted! I don't know why Camp has received such varied reviews, especially about the food. We tried Camp last night (AFTER the Labor Day crush, YAY!) and were impressed with the quality of the food and the service. We were greeted promptly and seated immediately. Our waiter, Wade, came over quickly and took our drink orders and told us about the cheese and cracker bar. A nice little nosh to start us out. We ordered beverages (I had a Maine blueberry vodka and lemonade drink--yummy) and the pretzel bites appetizer. The appy was tasty and gone in seconds! For dinner, two of us ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, one had meatloaf, and one had the chicken pot pie with the waffles. All the dishes were very tasty. My fried chicken was cooked to perfection--really crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside, and served with crisp green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy and some spiced apples. What I really loved was that the crispy chicken stood up to the gravy and stayed crisp from first bite to last. My dining companions enjoyed the bacon-wrapped meatloaf and the pot pie as well. Not a scrap of food was left. And for those who disparaged the biscuits, they were light, fluffy and delicious. This place is basically my dad's dream home: old timey antiques galore with a hardcore woodsy feel (complete with an indoor 'outhouse'). The Common Man has done a great job showing a **refined** rural in Camp! Parking was easy peasy as there is a large (and yet tastefully laid out) lot out front. Service was *excellent* (friendly, attentive, not too attentive, good timing all around). THE COCKTAILS - are fabulous (The Perfect Storm and the Sparkling French Martini are both superb....but careful, you'll be whistlin' like a hillbilly after even just *two*!). THE FOOD - was pretty darn good - certainly up to Common Man standards! We started with the Floret Fundido ($9, kind of like a massivly basic fondue...without sticks) wasn't that great, but my Tree Hugger's Delight wrap (falafel cakes on naan w/ slaw,tzatziki and cucumber $12.99) was every bit of delicious that I had hoped it would be. The naan was soft (like...HOW did you do that?!) and the falafel wasn't dried out (again...how?!); I even had enough to wrap up and take with me for a hike the next day! After dinner we strolled across the street (def use crosswalks here) and walked along the edge of the lake - even saw an otter! Truly a beautiful evening. The whole place is like a blast from the past - I know that it was likely decorated with the idea that it's playing up to well-to-do out-of-towners...but they did a really great job (like a rosey view of my childhood). A few of my favorite finds: tin roof, hanging canoe over the bar, an antique standing radio being used more as a shelf, 'camp cabin walls' for tables, oil lamps, barnboard walls, the stone fireplace, the carved camp signs .....really heartwarming (thanks for that, Common Man!). read more

I was really disappointed in CAMP. The menu looked so promising. When we arrived it was much smaller than I expected but cute (in a chintzy, campy, knick-knacks-from-floor-to-ceiling way). The manager greeted us and showed us to a booth. The waitress was nice enough. We started w/ the Cheese and crackers appetizer which sounded great on the menu but ended up being greasy cheesey slices of flatbread with about one scallion on each piece. My boyfriend ordered clam chowder which he loved (turned out to be the only food that got any praise that night). I ordered the Chicken with Apples and Brie Sauce and a side of fries. My bf got the roasted chicken. We shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio that was not good at all, esp. not for the price. But we soldiered through it. When the food arrived I was so annoyed. The ENTIRE dish was fried. Fried chicken, fried apples even (and obviously the expected French fries). Not once on the menu was it mentioned that this dish was fried. Since there was fruit and Brie involved I assumed it would be baked, even grilled perhaps. I'm not sure who to blame on this one. Sure I could have asked how the chicken was prepared but I assume if something is fried it will say so on the menu. Maybe the waitress should have mentioned it......I would have appreciated a warning. I managed a few bites before I gave up. It was just soooo greasy and fried I couldn't get through the meal. Bf liked his roast chicken and mashed potatoes (but even those were about half sour cream and butter). Not a place to go if you're health conscious at all. My entire dinner being wasted I decided to treat myself to dessert. They had a s'mores dish that fit the theme of the place and sounded delicious. I had watched the owner go over to a table of very drunk guys and girls and actually use a kitchen torch to toast their marshmallows to their preferred golden brown/burnt state so I was excited to have a fun dessert. Alas, more disappointment. Our waitress just plopped the marshmallows on the dessert, already burnt (past my liking) and there was hardly any ice cream or graham cracker. What a fun place! I went on a Saturday night and there was live music and a wholesome, upbeat social environment. It's a cozy heartwarming place to go during the cruel bite of a cold winter. The food is delicious comfort food with fun twists. I recommend the onion rings and steak tips. According to my partner the meatloaf was "to die for." He devoured it pretty quickly. By the end of the meal we felt compelled to order the s'mores because after all, we were at "camp." I ordered the haddock and it's described as being potato chip crusted... after picking it up for take out and bringing it home i was pretty disgusted by what they put in the container.. it was a full filet with big sliced potato chips spread across and melted cheddar cheese... ew. My boyfriend and I stopped here on New Years Eve. We found seats at the bar, which was filling up quickly. I do not think there was a wait for a table but the restaurant was busy. I first enjoyed the complimentary crackers and cheese that was available (you helped yourself). The bartender was courteous and working non-stop the entire time we were there. We weren't starving, so I enjoyed a crock of chili and a glass of red wine, while he had a chicken sandwich and a Common Man Ale. I really liked the theme of the restaurant; the servers had shirts that read "Counselor" on the back, there was a canoe-shaped glass rack hanging above the bar area, the bathrooms were referred to as "outhouses", etc. It was warm, cozy, and inviting and we will definitely return in the future. read more

NEVER GOING BACK. Sure the food is good, but it's just not worth the wait and the noise. There are too many other great restaurants nearby to waste an evening here. They will not take reservations for parties of less than 6 people, but they claim to have call ahead seating. So we went on a Monday night, figuring a lot of vacationing people probably left town on Sunday. We called at 5:15 p.m. to put our name on the call ahead list. Hostess said no problem there was currently no wait. I told her we were getting in the car and we would be there in 30 min. We arrived at 5:45, I told the hostess I called ahead. She informed me it would be about a 30 minutes. Wait... what??? What the heck is the point of call-ahead seating??? She said sorry, they got busy after I called. I said that's absolutely ridiculous and we walked out. Camp is great! I throughly enjoyed my dinner here. Everything was five star. Our server was great and told us all about the menu. They start each meal with cheese, crackers and a biscuit served with a flavored butter, tonight was white chocolate. That's right, white chocolate butter for the biscuit. It was absolutely delicious. Our table also ordered the camp crackers which was pita bread with a warm Gorgonzola spread. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken which was very good. I was between that and the meatloaf, but when I asked the server she recommended the chicken. I was only able to finish half of my meal since the portions are very large. The other guests in my party ordered the lobster roll and the steak bomb (steak panini). Since dessert is the whole point of the meal, we tried the Nutella creme brûlée, the smores and the snowballs. Just the word camp makes me think of grilling steaks on the open flame, so when my wife suggested we eat at Camp tonight the only thing on my mind was a good steak. When we started looking through the menu there was alot that could sounded satisfying. I was in earnest trying to figure out what to pick. Fortunately our server, Steve, brought me back to reality by recommending a 12 oz ribeye toped with sauted mushrooms. It was by far the best decision I have made during our vacation to the lakes region. After reading reviews, we were pretty excited to try this place. The food sounded average or slightly below average, and the decor looked like it was a hunting lodge in the middle of the woods. While the decor was fun and the service friendly and attentive, the food failed to even meet our already low expectations. The meal started with biscuits, which had the unmistakable flavor of Bisquick. I get that this is supposed to be sort of a throwback campy environment, but try a little harder than picking up a premade box of buscuit mix from Hannafords. We next had the pretzel bites appetizer. It was was more of a nacho dish with what were claimed to be pretzel bites. The pretzels lacked any flavor typically associated with pretzels. The little bits of kielbasa were delicious though. For entrees, we ordered the buttermilk chicken and the salmon. Both of which were claimed to be the kitchen specialties. The chicken was lackluster, at best, having the overall flavor and quality of a microwave dinner. I didn't even bother tasting my better hall's salmon, but the fact that she left most of it on the plate speaks for itself. Dessert was unquestionably the best part of the meal. We ordered the S'mores, which was basically a cast iron dish with a layer of chocolate on the bottom and marshmallows on top. The Graham crackers were served on the side. One could either scoop the chocolate/marshmallow with the cracker, or spoon the mixture onto the cracker. I tried both methods, which were each delicious. Overall, Camp was pretty disappointing. While the service was very friendly and attentive, the quality of the food just isn't there. If you are planning on going, maybe just stop by for a drink and that S'Mores dish. read more

I have been to this location a few times and each time I have had a great experience. The interior decorating is spot on with the theme and fun to look at. The food each time I have been has been delicious. The servers have been pleasant. On this last visit specifically our server Pat was friendly, welcoming and helpful.
