I came here with a friend for lunch post-hike out on the patio. It is a nice big patio with cover and a fence, so no need to worry about too much sun or the elements. CONS: Disappointed in the price for the very very small portions even for a petite athletic lady. Tiny tacos. We were looking for a lunch place with an outdoor patio as we had our dog with us. Being first time visitors to the area, I googled restaurants and then consulted Yelp for more reviews. This place was awesome! A great menu, superb, attentive service and so welcoming. Not only did they bring us water before we were barely in our seats, but they brought water & a bowl for our pup. We love supporting locally owned, independent restaurants so that was the icing on the cake! 28 years in business in Montrose and I hope they are there for another 28. Traveling through and liked the reviews and that it wasn't far from our hotel. Couldn't be better!!! Everyone was friendly and professional. We particularly appreciated that Kim, the owner, stopped by to introduce herself and check on us. We enjoyed a couple of Colorado beers. Simply amazing!!!very fresh ingredients and a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors. My partner had the Thai peanut stir fry with salmon. It was a good sized piece of tender salmon. We helped our friend celebrate his 75th birthday & couldn't have picked a better place! The food was awesome!!! We had the Chile Rellenos, blue corn enchiladas, steak salad and steak and potatoes. It was all excellent! For dessert we shared crème brûlée that had chocolate on the bottom and the brownie sundae, yummm! The service was awesome, our waitress went above & beyond! Ate lunch there today. Food was just ok. Ordered hamburger--medium with a little red in the middle. They got it close enough on the SECOND try. House made potato chips? Very spicy--burned my tongue spicy (this was not noted on menu). 2nd try on chips was better. I always ask for lime with my iced tea, waitress brought it to me in her hands!!!!! Is this something that is ok in Montrose???? Used to think this was #2 restaurant in Montrose, but if you consider their mediocre offerings and assumption that you like spicy everything, AND it's ok for waitstaff to handle your food, I am not sure I will return!! read more

We are on a road trip and wanted a healthy dinner. Well Camp Robber was fabulou. I enjoyed the roasted corn enchiladas with green sauce my husband had salad and Crab cakes. What made the dinner was the wonderful service provided by Deanna. Deanna offer great recommendations and service. A real hero with all of the shortages in staffing Deanna was excellent and we observe all teammates worki real hard. Staff did a real detailed job in cleaning tables during reset. This was such an unexpected treat. While passing through town we stopped for lunch and enjoyed every bite of our order. The nachos are delicious, outstanding pistachio crusted chicken salad, even the kids menu chicken tenders were the best we've ever had. They currently have a sign posted apologizing for being short staffed and the potentially longer wait time, but we were seated much faster than they initially warned and the service was excellent in every way. We love the Camp Robber and eat there often. My husband especially likes the quesadillas and I love the salads and chicken. The service is always fantastic and the servers are so helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that the margaritas are really small. We are not drinkers and usually order the iced tea which is always good. However, once in awhile I like a wine or a margarita. Overpriced, as in $15.67 for soup & salad. TERRIBLE DESSERTS! I tried the key lime pie, which was NOT key lime pie and should NOT be called key lime pie, which is a traditional dessert. They serve it frozen, and if you let it get to room temperature, it completely separates and collapses into the whipped sugar that it is. I was most unhappy with this, so I tried the creme brûlée, which they served scaldingly hot and which burned my mouth. Creme brûlée is supposed to be served as a cool custard with the cartelized sugar on top warmed. When I complained about these overpriced desserts ($8.25), they said, "That's how we serve it!" They know NOTHING ab out desserts and should not be allowed to call them by their traditional names!!! This is consistent with their otherwise crappy overpriced food. read more

I hate to be a wet blanket among all these positive reviews, but Camp Robber easily ranked as the most mediocre dining experience we had in eight days of travelling around Colorado. Luckily, it was one of the first meals of the trip, which ended up featuring a lot of good eating. Camp Robber is one of those restaurants that tries to tackle too extensive a menu--a variety of bar-food apps, big salads, pasta dishes, New Mexican, sandwiches and burgers, grilled meat and fish dishes--and probably does only a couple of things well. Unfortunately, those were not the things we tried. I had a smoked-brisket enchilada plate with both red and green chile sauce. It sounded great on paper, i.e.,the menu. But it was pretty horrible on the plate: rather tough blue corn tortillas, and the chile sauce was barely detectable. Worst of all, the brisket itself was a disaster, tough Steakums-like texture and barely identifiable as beef, let alone did it have any smoky flavor. Maybe it's only my own ignorance of New Mexico cuisine (or maybe the proprietors'), but "cheesey posole" was a disappointment as a side. I was expecting a succulent, meaty stew, but this was just hominy covered in a peppery melted cheese. Certainly edible, but quite simplistic. The wife ordered a trout special that was competently cooked, but little more. It was basically a banquet-quality entree. The decor and lighting seem a little clunky. The service was competent. No disrespect meant to the Good Citizens of Montrose, including those who own and work at this restaurant. We just didn't enjoy our food very much. read more

I was working in Montrose for an entire week and found a few decent restaurants in this small valley with a population of ~25,000. I was in the mood for a decent filet mignon and Camp Robber was recommended by one of the locals working at the hotel I was staying, so I decided to check it out. I believe it was a Wednesday night, and the place was not too terribly busy. The hostess sat me immediately and the waitress was very friendly and prompt. The menu seemed to have many Mexican-American inspired dishes, but I opted for a cup of their house green chile chicken soup for an appetizer and the bacon-wrapped filet mignon with rosemary glaze dinner with vegetables (asparagus and pea pods) and changed the standard baked potato to their ginger rice, because it sounded like it would be very tasty. The soup was delicious, as I found myself finishing it in what seemed to be less than a minute. I cleansed my palette between each spoonful with gulps of New Belgium's Fat Tire Ale. It had just the right amount of heat, the chicken was moist, and it was garnished with a dollop of sour cream and a couple tortilla chips. Anything with sour cream gets praise from this big fella! I ordered the only Pinot Noir on their wine list to accompany my filet and was pleasantly surprised with it. My steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and was covered in a rosemary glaze. The glaze was OK, but I am not sure if the steak would be better with or without it. The vegetables were well seasoned and tasted great together with a bite of the meat. The rice was OK, but I just didn't taste the ginger at all which disappointed me. Regardless, if I were to be stuck in Montrose for another week I would most likely return to Camp Robber for another meal. read more
