The girls that waited on us that night we more interested in talking and goofing around then taking care of the customers. My wife ordered our dinner a wow burger &large onion rings and a patty melt along with a banana split and a dipped chocolate cone. We got the order and they forgot the patty melt. You would think 2 people 2 meals but oh no, I guess they could've figured that out. No they missed it. Not paying attention to your customers needs causes people not to come back to your restaurant. I sat and ate my burger while my wife watched and had nothing. That was terrible but 6 minutes later her meal was done and you think one of those young girls would have brought it out to her, nope they called her name and she had to get up and go get it. She told me that my sandwich would be made after other customers were taken care of. I've been here before once last year ordered a Philly and it was great. I figured I'd stop by here today since I'm in the area and try out the Ruben little did I know that the Ruben they put together has two pieces of meat on it and it's a tiny little sandwich and it cost you $8.67 just for the sandwich. A very nostalgic fast food restaurant with ambience to go with it. The burgers are good and filling. The fries are outstanding, and they have an incredible ice cream and shake selection. It's an old restaurants so it's not in the greatest of shape but boy does that nostalgic (60's-70's) feeling emanate! The only thing I didn't like was the beef patty on the burger. It just did't taste Beefy.... it's actually kind of bland. Not even salt could bring out the beefy taste. I mean, overall it was a good burger (and it's a large patty so it's definitely filling), but improving on the beefy taste of the patty would be the only thing to make it an incredible burger. It is a popular Brandon fixture that has been around for many years now. A good old-fashioned, family owned business. Their shakes are truly amazing! They have the best banana shake (made with fresh bananas). It totally beats the shakes from Sonic or Dairy Queen (by a mile). I've been hooked on them since the day I moved to the Brandon area. I'm also a big fan of their fried veggies. The eggplant fries are my favorite. Not many places offer that. It comes with a yummy dipping sauce that is so addicting. The fried zucchini is wonderful as well. They fry up the veggies at the time you place the order, so there can be a bit of a wait. Fortunately, the drive thru service always seems to be very efficient. They have numbered parking areas that you can pull into while you're waiting, but you do have to be patient. Everything is made to order. Don't expect to get it right away. It's just one of those places to go to when you want to treat yourself to an old fashioned treat. Highly recommended! read more

The best local diner/ice cream shop in Brandon! Came on a Wednesday had the salad special, a carribean salad with a small touch of potato salad on the bottom. No need for dressing. Just the right amount of crisp and freshness. My other half had a wow burger with onion rings and sweet tea. All was fresh on a soft bun. Just the right crispness to the onion rings and not too sweet on the tea. Skip a chain diner and chose this local joint. The peanut parfait was an excellent finishing touch to a great meal! Campbell's Dairyland is one of my favorite places for many reasons. The memories of growing up and heading to Dairyland, especially after getting my Comic books from a store just across the street. The dining area itself is quite small, so my normal routine is to get something from the drive thru and take it home. It does take longer than the normal fast food chains to get your order, but it is well worth it. Everything comes hot out of the kitchen. The milkshakes taste great and they have many different flavor options. My favorite flavor would be the Cheesecake shake. As for hot food, I would definitely go with the Chili dog (Everything on it of course) and a side of Season Fries. That makes for a filling meal which is always delicious. If you are feeling like those options might be basic (How dare you they are awesome) then you could also try the Zucchini or Egg Plant fries. The Zucchini fries come out fried and crispy, while the Egg Plant fries are normally a bit softer and a little limp. Both come with Ranch sauce and make for a delicious side option. Campbell's Dairyland is such a solid and cute store. In my 18 years in FL it has still retained its charm and taste. read more

After eating here a couple more times I think that I need to avoid this place. When you list a menu item as your "specialty" it better be good if not pretty darn good. Also I think the first time I ate here I hit the jackpot on what to get (that's not a problem, but it's not enough to deter me from going to the competition) They list hot dogs and chili dogs as a "specialty" on the menu, but I have one word on their "specialty" and that would be "yuck". Their chili dogs smell like a used pair of sweat socks and taste like some pasty and salty hunk of fat. When the chili is a paste rather than the consistency of chili then it is a bad sign that the chili is out of the can and left to reheat for days. It is a shame because a good friend of mine suggested that I try one, oh well. Not expecting chili from scratch, but when I hold the chili dog upside down the chili should not stick to the hot dog and bun. I tried and failed to finish this and attempted to feed the rest to my dogs, they like things that are usually salty and fatty. One (Bruce) gave it the sniff test and walked away (he's apparently smarter than I) and the other (Molly) took a couple of tastes and immediately went to the water dish to get a drink of fresh water and proceeded to begin to lick her backside (apparently she was a dumb as I). Thankfully I don't have to attempt to lick my own hindquarters to get rid of the taste, but it took a lot of toothpaste to get that funk out. BTW Five Guys has a much better hot dog. Also their shakes are not all that at all, you can get much better at Toppers (the best) DQ, 31 flavors, or Carvel. It just seems like their shakes are missing something and there's some funny aftertaste that I cannot describe. Also their corn dogs are very disappointing! All they do is take the same frozen crap you get from the freezer section and reheat it by deep fryer, giver your arteries the afternoon off and avoid these. The reason why I say that is when I ordered one I asked was it a corn dog that was hand dipped and fried or reheated, they tried to tell me that it was hand dipped, what a lie and a complete line of crap. The only time these corn dogs were touched by hand is when one grabbed it out of the box and then tossed in the deep fryer. I mean people are going to go where they like or what they were raised on, but after experiencing the laws of diminishing returns time and time again and with the service extremely hit or miss, it is time to take my business elsewhere. So I've tried both the ice cream and the hot foods in a total of 3 visits. Pros: They have a drive thru! Super convenient. They also have strawberry shortcake which was amazing. The cake was moist and sweet. The ice cream, nice and smooth. I would return just for this! Also they have good milkshakes. They could be a bit thicker though. I noticed it as I was pulling off and there was a line behind me, so I wasn't able to back up. I should have went in and said something! As for the hot foods, I've tried the chili-cheese hot dog and fries. I placed this order inside and asked for a side of cheese sauce for the fries. She assured me it was in the bag. When I got home, it was not! Also the hot dog itself was old and overcooked. I could have had better at 7-11. The flavor of the chili was horrible as well. Honestly that was the worst chili-cheese dog I've ever had. Usually if I don't like the chili on a dog, I will just tolerate it and eat it so it doesn't go to waste, but this one I couldn't even finish. Also the fries were hard and cold. My sister came with me and she got the wings for my niece. When she bit into one it was not done! There was still blood by the bone. We tried another one just to be sure it wasn't just that one, and the whole order was not done. They didn't fry them long enough. Thank God my sister noticed before my niece got sick. Maybe it was my own fault for ordering this without thinking about it, but I was unable to eat/drink the majority of it because the butterscotch hardened and wouldn't come through the straw. I was not given a spoon, but happened to have a spork in the car, but by the time I realized what had actually occurred in the cup, the shake was pretty much all melted. I think this place is great as far as the ice creams and sundaes go (I have yet to try) but for the food, what I got I wasn't really happy with. This place has a convenient drive through and allot to choose from whether you want food or dessert. I ordered fries and a chili/cheese dog and didn't really like it. The firs were absolutely awesome but the chili had no flavor (bean less which is my kind of chili) and the cheese was not melted. I was hoping they had grilled hot dogs given the restaurant caters more to outdoors, but I'm pretty sure it was just another Florida boiled hot dog.
