The food here is okay, good for Arcata standards. However, the service is absolutely arrogant. Came in on a busy Saturday and was literally laughed at by the host for asking for a seat for 3 without reservations. First of all, they don't even have a reservation platform they use. If you are that busy and that important then get a reservation app to take reservations instead of phone calls. 2nd off learn some small town manners if you want to make it in this town. Thirdly when I came in again with reservations (this time) your food didn't exceed your lack of customer service. If you are going to act like this is a 5 star Michelin restaurant with your arrogance, your food better deliver in that same expected quality. read more

This is my Favorite restaurant in Eureka by far. Great Atmosphere, great food, great staff, and great drinks. They have the best whisky drinks in the town of Eureka. Finally, the brunch place we've been waiting for! We had a lovely time eating here a few months ago for dinner, and my husband was floored by the incredible waygu steak, which was melt in your mouth tender. When they opened for brunch a couple weeks ago, I was even more excited. Their menu looked like heaven, offering an upscale brunch that would land happily in a Bay Area neighborhood, and is hard to find in these parts. My husband ordered the buttermilk fried chicken & waffles with calabrian chile-honey maple syrup. They were crispy and delicious with just the right balance of sweet and heat. I ordered the arepas, and the beans, plantain, avocado and crema were savory, a little sweet and super delicious. We also enjoyed the smoky sweet caramelized bacon (not too much sugar), and the papas bravas, which were served over a really nice tomato sauce. We ate there last night after hearing a stellar review from some visiting friends. They must have hit it on a good night. The restaurant is gorgeous but way too noisy to have a conversation...all I could think of is this is the perfect place to take someone you don't want to talk to...in fact the young couple sitting next to us gave up trying to talk to each other and resorted to texting each other while sitting right across from one another at their table. I ordered the wedge salad. What I got was an ENTIRE head of iceberg lettuce cut in quarters... I kid you not! It was covered in a very bland blue cheese dressing and three (I counted!) pieces of sun dried tomato. The other ingredients listed in the menu for this dish were missing entirely. For an entree I ordered the French onion soup with short rib. The soup was flavorless, the short rib was some thin slices of mystery meat in the bottom of the bowl, also lacking in any flavor. Service is slow and the wait between courses is interminable... bring a book, or download a movie on your phone. You will not be having fascinating and witty conversation with your table mate, you won't be able to hear a thing. read more

I was pretty hungry and excited to try this place, however, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. There is nothing 'Argentine-inspired' about it, first of all. My wife and I had a dinner reservation and when we came in the place wasn't busy at all (now I know why). We were seated promptly. Then we were skipped by a few wandering waiters. After a few minutes we were finally approached by our waitress, Alicia, and placed an order for some drinks and appetizers. Our reservation was at 6:30pm and 6:50pm was when she took our order. Of course they were out of the tomahawk steak. More and more time is going by and it's very uneventful, no snacks or bread at the table, and we are getting even hungrier and thirstier. First, I just ordered a beer and it took 15 minutes to come out, I began to think they were brewing it from scratch. Then we got the oysters, which were alright, but we inhaled them fast as we are still patiently waiting for the rest of the food to come out. Now it's already 7:20pm and we are still sitting at the empty table and no one is checking up on us. Mind you, we didn't order anything complicated, some French onion soup, poutine, and a flat iron steak. I was afraid to order anything else because then we'd never leave the place, but then Alicia dropped by and we asked for a couple of cocktails to pass the time, I kindly asked her about our food and why it's taking so long, and then she immediately started giving attitude and making it sound how it was my fault for placing the order a wrong way, instead of just apologizing and hurrying with the food. I was shocked how poor the service is at the restaurant, which pretends to be an upscale establishment. I couldn't tell if they were trying too hard or hardly trying. We finally received the rest of our order around 7:35pm and our waitress, Alicia, was acting like she was mad at us. The food was mediocre at best, not memorable and very unremarkable. Steak was flavorless and poutine was bland. Campfire cocktail wasn't bad as I was trying to wash the food down. We left around 7:50pm, $100 and almost hour and a half later we were hungry and annoyed. The place is lame and overpriced, would not recommend it to anyone. read more

For this place being listed as 3.5 stars is not even close to the truth. It should be 5 stars. Come and get the experience, the service, and especially the taste with local grown food. If you are looking for a fast service, cheap priced, and don't care or understand taste, then don't come unless you are willing to open your pallet and spend time with your family and friends while the food is cooked slowly as it should be. You also won't be pressured to get out the door like many restaurants do. For the ones who posted 1-2 stars about Campground, all I read for them was slow service because it took too longer to properly cook the items for them perfect, then those people need to get off their phones and enjoy the experience, the taste, and the service. read more

If I'm sure of the quality of a restaurant I write a review right the way, otherwise I take 3 visits to intent to be fair. This is a 3 visits review no counting drinks at the bar taking in the sour/sweet humor of the bartender uncalled for it. I ordered appetizers for my 3 dinning experiences. The carpaccio was a dissonance, first time it covered all the plate, last time only the center, same price $XX- A $XX- steak that I asked medium rare came medium with nothing else on the plate but a slice of lemon. And the host person was making jokes that were clearly unwelcome. To wrapped up they charged my meal in my card. The next day I looked at my banking statement and they charged me, besides my meal, somebody else's meal. I had to take personal time to take care of the issue, same host, similar unwelcome jokes. He said they will call me, it has been 5 days and I'm still waiting. I am disappointed, I'm not coming back neither my family neither my friends. read more

Alright -- this place is big on the ambiance and less concerned with the food. We went there for brunch and I had the arepas which were pretty much like tiny little corn cakes the size of a sand dollar with a paltry amount of beans, a little fancy lettuce, a tiny swirl of creme, a small slice of avocado and no flavor besides a little thimble of jalapeno pickles. There was supposed to be fried plantain and cheese but didn't find any lurking. They sprinkled pomegranate seeds on the plate to make up for the vastness of the white expanse where no real food existed. The dish was $14. I have just come from NYC where the most delicious arepas are plentiful for $10 and under -- fillings are tasty and flavorful -- take note Campground proprietors: arepafactory.com/#!menu My friend ordered the special which was a veggie frittata and had to douse it in catsup because of it's lack of flavor and then ended up leaving a bunch on her plate. The problem here is that there was nothing special and I was left hungry. I am tired of food establishments in Humboldt County thinking that they can foist mediocre food off on patrons for high prices and stay in business. Aim a cut above people! I'm from the Bay Area, very snooty about food, right? This place is as good or better than many of the popular spots I've dined at. And, while it might be pricey for Humboldt, is maybe 2/3 of what I'd pay for something similar down south. First, great idea to have burning wood to grill/char/roast things over. The NY strip steak was excellent (medium), crusty/smokey outside and still tender inside. From prior reviews, my significant and I decided to make reservations for a Friday night dinner. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated right away. The restaurant is nicely appointed, and a little smokey as they have an open grill, but neither of us minded that. I found it pleasant. Firstly, the service: The hostess, our waiter, and the server who brought our food were all prompt and friendly. I never got a chance to finish an entire glass of water because they were so attentive to our table and refilled the glass if it was even hinting at being empty. Second: The food. I was really looking forward to the tomahawk steaks. We asked about them and our waiter informed us they age them in-house and since this process takes several weeks, they had actually run out due to popularity. I will call ahead next time (Even though I know they're just fancy cut ribeyes, the presentation in this case would be amazing). For the items we actually ordered: We started with oysters, which my SO informed was good, but not the best in town. We also shared the duck poutine (fries, cheese curds, gravy and in this case some duck, French-Canadian junk food at it's finest). This is a dish we make at home regularly during hockey season. While delicious if you guys aren't puckheads like us, it doesn't compare to our homemade version. The small plate we both raved about was the whipped bone marrow butter served with grilled bread. Do not fear the marrow, it is delicious and I would buy a tub of it to take home if I could. For main entrees, the SO ordered duck cassoulet and I had the flat iron steak with a side of macaroni and cheese. If you love rich and fatty duck, order the cassoulet. I double dare you. Now you have to. If you wish to thank me, I like a nice bottle of mid-priced scotch. My flatiron steak was absolutely tender. Mac was okay, will probably pass next time. Ok, saw this restaurant for the first time on doordash, looked them up, great reviews and delicious sounding food, yay! Called them just now, as during COVID 19 I was unsure if they were just using doordash or also delivering or doing takeout...So I spoke with the guy who answered the phone and he was extremely rude, interrupted me as I was talking and told me in an agressive, patronizing tone that my question was really a ridiculous one and that of course their ONLY doing what was on doordash. Seriously?? Many restaurants are taking different tacks in handling their customers. I've spoken with several and what their offering online is different that what their doing if your ordering directly! I know I shouldn't base my decisions on what one employee did, but I am pissed off enough that I will not order or dine there ever. read more

Food here is awesome. Chicken is to die for. Fries cooked in tallow? Yeah, they're incredible. Meat is top notch. Open now for brunch. Several great dishes and a house made chorizo that is outstanding. Only glitch with brunch is I have yet to have a properly cooked egg. Over easy are over hard and poached eggs were hard poached too. Service can range from 5 star to where's they go? Order 2 drinks, bar is very slow, but they make a killer Bloody Mary at brunch!! Definitely worth a try. read more

I went here for my first time on Thursday night and I'll def be back. Let me start off by saying the ambience is great. The whole inside design of the restaurant is well done. Rustic but modern with an open kitchen. As a side note, if you are looking for more privacy (on a date etc) make sure you ask for a one of the booth tables. I ordered the beet and carrot salad and the flat iron steak. That was one of the best steaks I've ever had in my life. The char was perfect. It was cooked perfectly (ordered medium). Our waiter was Bobby and he was fantastic. I'd highly recommend asking for his section. Very attentive and gave solid recommendations on everything from the wine to the food choices. We had the New York strip steak, maple brined pork chop with apple chutney, cast iron smoked Gouda Mac n cheese, grill vegetables and queso blanco. Everything was delicious! For cocktails we had the Campfire, which is smoky delicious with the cedar wood smoke. The Lost in the Woods and a Sazerac. All the cocktails were some of the best we've had. Wait staff was barely OK the appetizer seafood was fried did not state that in the menu, the halibut was OK the martini was less than a half full for $18. $230 later for three of us, really really was bad. I visited Campground for the first time around New Years 2020 and it such a surprise to see this place on the map! As someone who's worked in semi and high-end restaurants for almost a decade, Campground was a treat I didn't expect in Humboldt. Their layout is quite traditional: a hostess greets you to an array of tables, high tops, the bar, and a handful of booths. Their ambiance is romantically dimmed (probably a bit darker than mom and dad would like?), super clean, and it's obvious they keep a tight, clean ship if their table placements, cutlery, and beautifully graphic designed menu hadn't given that away. They have a semi-open kitchen to watch if you're sitting near booths or on a high-top, which was where I was. As a solo diner with a notebook, I enjoyed their music (which wasn't obnoxiously loud like other far-too-hip joints) and of course their array of cocktails, liquor, and delicious wines! Sure, this place is expensive and intimidating, but if you were a single diner, like myself, and wanted to enjoy a couple of drinks or a well-made dish with amazing technique, this is it. Whether to impress a friend or not, I can imagine this being a great start to your culinary interests be it drinks or their cuisine. I'm not sure how seasonal their menu is, but I'll definitely be visiting again. read more

Loved the pork filled peppers! I loved my duck entree. My husband's steak was smaller but delicious. Great drinks n selection of wine. Pricey but the quality was fresh n succulent. We enjoy fine dining so we thought it was worth it. We don't skimp on good food. We go for it. Life is short! Amazing experience! Went with friends for a special occasion. The service was very good. Cocktails were very good and pretty creative. Not a great wine list for a place that specializes in grilled meat. I'm glad we brought a bottle. Only half of our party was satisfied with what they received for food though. Both ribeyes (which were priced at $40 each without sides) were flavorful, but not an excellent cut, very chewy and not cooked as requested. The amount of chimichurri sauce was pitiful. As that is the only other thing on the plate, they really could have served more than a tablespoon. My lamb chops were delicious, seasoned and cooked properly. Very sparse on the accompanying sauce as well. Grilled artichoke and seasonal vegetables were good, yet overpriced. Oysters were excellent. Grilled with a red chimichurri type sauce. Duck poutine was very very disappointing. Would not order the wedge salad, mushroom risotto or potatoes again or pay for the ribeye which is normally our favorite cut. Not sure we would return or recommend to others. Hopefully they will strive for improvements in the food to match the cost. read more

Absolutely fantastic experience! The decor is beautiful, the service is great and the FOOD!!! OMG! Came here on our last night visiting Arcata with my parents visiting from Europe and my son and his gf, both students here. Started off with a tartar and bone marrow butter, both delish. Then we shared 4 steaks: Ribeye, Flat iron, NY strip and the special Smoked plate rib and few sides: cauliflower, polenta and tallow roasted potatoes. Finished off with s'mores pie! I will tell you, I am very selective of my places to eat and I appreciate fresh, creative food with great service and this place does not disappoint! Every bite was like a symphony and I did not want it to stop! Our server Katie was professional and attentive, she was very knowledgeable and sold us on the owners special ( I want more of the smoke rib plate!!! ). Far and away the best restaurant in Humboldt County. I've been living here for 15 months now, and nothing make me miss home more than the restaurants we have. Not a big fan of the selection, quality, and service provided by most spots around here. Found a couple decent places with good food, but nothing close to something with atmosphere and the whole package. That all changed when I took my girlfriend to Campground for our 6 month anniversary. This place came highly recommended from friends and I now see why. Everything was perfect. EVERYTHING. Started off with two of the best drinks we've ever had, with mine actually being served smoking still and tasting amazing. Had their version of amazing queso dip and also their bread & bone marrow butter, which was to my surprise somehow more than justified for the price. Then had the lamb chops while she had the New York. Best cuts of meat I've had in a restaurant since Ruth's Chris. Also added the AMAZING Gouda Mac & cheese along with the veggies and potatoes. Everything couldn't have been better. This is the dopest spot around by a long shot. They've earned multiple repeat customer in myself and I just wish I could grant it a 6th star.
