Eh. Some good, but some really not so good. My order came out incorrectly and then I was given the option to get it correctly but "or do you think it's too late now because how long it would take?" So I went with the incorrect order not wanted to wait for however long the server was indicating. The server came back maybe 1/3 of the way into our entrees to ask if we wanted desserts. She read our faces well and said, "okay, something to think about." The food wasn't bad tasting. It was hard to enjoy the evening though because of the atmosphere. It's so loud in there. Tile floors, tile/wood walls, wood seats. Everyone was yelling to be heard. The worst part is that we were by the open door and very cold with the evening air. When I asked about maybe closing it just a bit we were told that it gets hot for the cooks by the fire so they leave it open. Basically the place was not designed with the diner's experience in mind. I enjoy a special evening at a nice restaurant and don't mind paying for it. This place was not worth the money we spent. I probably won't go back. read more

Excellent brunch! A solid menu of chicken and waffles, chilaquiles and and avocado toast with pork belly and much more . I'm loving this brunch- they've got a well curated menu, and the chilaquiles--which can be hit or miss in most places- is yummy delicious with islands of avocado and chorizo and flavor that is killer. Pair it with a vodka cilantro Bloody Mary and this place will make your day. I'm a huge foodie and the Pandemic knocked Arcata for a loop, it's been a while since restaurants reinvested, hired up worthy chefs and got back to some kick ass food. While I'll have to say that the ambience of the interior is nice and fits the theme, the food and service qas hit or miss with our group's dinner. In terms of food and drink, my maple bourbon braised brisket and campfire drink was delicious. The shared artichoke dip was also good with the bread served with it. For others in my group, the fried turmeric collarflower and pasta was not that great. And the way the porkchop was served could have been done better. Amazing experience all around. I'll start with the place environment. The restaurant has a cozy, more intimate atmosphere. Very nice for a date night and for luxurious meals experience. Clean and well designed floor plan. We did not set at the bar, but it was very full and it looked like a very nice area to unwind after a long week/day. The kitchen area what I was absolutely in love with the most. It's very open and the lighting is distributed very well. The aroma of the food was just divine. Staff: the welcoming guests staff, she was super friendly and polite. Had our reservation ready in les than 10secs. We were escorted to our booth; she had gone over our reservation notes and was very knowledgeable about food restrictions we had added to our reservation. (Not a lot of places actually train their staff to understand all different food requirements, so I was really impressed) Our waitress was absolutely amazing and she had taken care of us very well. Our drinks, food, and side dishes arrived very quickly. She had attended us at all right times to check on us and was super wonderful. Thank you Madison, Food experience: expect this to be a high-end quality and an expensive outing. If you are trying to impress your partner, family or just for yourself pleasure this is the place to go for a great time. The food was delicious. We only had vegetarian/non-meat dishes and nonalcoholic drinks. Everything, and I mean everything was just perfect. If I could eat the meat they had I would try it, but I have food restrictions and I truly can't imagine how the meat dishes would taste, if the vegetarian options were absolutely scrumptious. My girlfriend and I had reservations for 5:30pm on a Saturday evening. When we arrived, we were greeted and seated promptly, so it didn't feel the reservation was necessary at all. The front of the restaurant is well lit with natural lighting but we opted for the booths further in the back for a more intimate experience. Although it took awhile for our server to come around, he was very friendly and provided some drink recommendations - we went with the Up a Creek and the Forager, which are both popular drinks at this restaurant. For our main course, I had the boneless 20oz ribeye cooked medium rare, and my girlfriend had the scallops. The wait for food did take quite a bit of time, but was worth the wait. My steak had a nice char and was cooked perfectly. I only wish the steak knife was a bit more sharpened; it took some sawing to get a nice cut. The scallops were also cooked very well. Probably the best Steak I've had- but the waiter was not very attentive. Probably worth the wait but for the price, I'd expect better service. They need to turn the heater down too- had to stand outside for awhile to cool off. But again- the steak was amazing and the appetizers were delicious. We were ready for a good meal after traveling for several days. My husband and I split our dinner: Cobb salad, 20 ounce rib eye and mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious. The rib eye was prepared with a seer from the open flames that added flavor. The mashed potatoes had plenty of flavor without me adding anything else to it. I had such a lovely dinner here! The ambiance itself was divine, so warm and woody! Service was absolutely divine as well! All of the waiters and waitresses had such kind and peaceful energy. I ordered the lamb chops with a side of mashed potato's. The lamb chop was perfectly charred on the outside but medium rare on the inside--just as I requested. I noted that the chimichurri was paired so perfectly with the flavors of the soft mashed potatoes as well as the lamb chop. For drinks, I ordered the forager! What a gem of a near perfect restaurant in the most beautiful town in Northern California serving the best brunch and dinner! I had never been to Arcata before but this quaint little town with so many interesting history and it's own college nestled just north of Eureka is one of the few remaining places that preserves its beautiful downtown with old architectural style of 50's and early 60's marvelous America as seen in many nostalgic movies. When you walk into this quaint little restaurant you will be whisked away into the Time Machine which takes you to the Happy Days era. The hostess in front of firewood stacks, nearby old saloon's bar and warm ambience of wooden tables and chairs invite you to the time when everything was old and perfect! The service is quick and foods are served hot. I had the best fried chicken and waffles but the others had wonderful burrito and steak salad. I was by far and away the last (and soon the only) customer in the restaurant and no one bat an eye when I dropped my order on the kitchen eight minutes before closing. The short version of this story (leaving out the rant about Avelo Airlines), includes two very nice glasses of wine (a Montepulciano d'abruzzo, I think), a very nice hunk-o-swordfish, and a very nice bartender named Lizzy. Came in a couple weeks ago and was pretty disappointed. We ordered two "Prime" New Yorks and the scallops entree. One of the cuts was a poor cut and very fatty. The other cut was fine. Both steals were cooked to the propped medium rare requested but the steaks were chewy and tough. If these were indeed "Prime" they had no age on them. The scallops were just flat out disappointing. 3 small scallops and some various vegetables. Definitely not what i would consider an entree. Looked like a fine place to have a drink and get a burger. Anything more than that I'd be hesitant to waste my money. Giving an extra star because the server was pleasant. other than that I'd skip this one in the future. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for drinks 45 minutes before they closed and they still delivered the best drinks and customer service! We sat at the bar and the two bartenders that helped us were so lovely, gave us drink details and recommendations, and even checked on us frequently. The service is banana slug slow. They are charging Los Angeles money for pretty mediocre food. The last 3 visits have been sub par. Well I'd love to review the food but I can only review the service. I had a reservation for 5:30, got there exactly at that time and we were told we were 20 minutes late. I know for a fact I had made it for this time because I originally wanted it for 5 and the server said "No, how's 5:30?" And I agreed. The waitress admitted that their computer messes up sometimes but told us there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. When I told her I had called and left a message she said that she has no idea who took my reservation in the first place because "she's the only one answering the phone". So even though I had only made my reservation about two hours before... And you're the only one that answers the phone... You don't remember anyone under my name calling and making a reservation... And you admit that your computers mess up "all the time"... But I'm still not allowed to come and have my date night dinner I've been looking forward to for over a month? Will not be coming back and will not be recommending. Rude, careless, waste of my time and too bad for them because I had a $300 dinner and drinks tab to run up. I'm suspicious that because my boyfriend and I are an alt looking couple they had zero care to have people with tattoos and piercing in their establishment. I still can't get over how rude the hostess was. Just fully admitting that our reservation getting messed up had nothing to do with us, everything to do with THEM, and just looked at us like we were shit out of luck. NEVER again! read more

Bartending staff obviously working their butts off and they did a great job taking care of us, too. We typically go to Campground once a month. The food is almost always spot on. However, when paying $250 and up it should be spot on 100% of the time. This past weekend the service was absolutely terrible. We had the impression that the server knows the tabs are large and tips will be good so no extra effort made. We watched as she played on phone and ignored us for 10/15 minutes with empty drinks. Meal was mediocre this time. There needs to be an owner making presence known, talking to diners, asking about service and meals, not just collecting money.
