Very good food and service. There was plenty of space between tables, but on the packed night we were here it was very noisy. When you're first seated, they give you a basket of bread and breadsticks, celery and carrots, salami and cheese, and a dip. With your meal they provide vegetables for the table. On the night we were here, it was sautéed greens (escarole?). All were very good. I shared pasta with clam sauce as an appetizer and then chicken parm. They split both in the kitchen. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. When I go back, I plan to have the berries with zabaglione again! I thought it a little odd that the chicken parm and veal milanese were perfectly round; I liked that they were pounded thin and perfectly prepared. Their wine selection and cocktails were also good. You will not find fresher seafood anywhere in NYC and that's because the chef goes to the Fulton fish market at MIDNIGHT 3 times a week. Last night I had gazpacho with crab - so good - and Cacio e Pepe (pasta with romano and black pepper ) that is both so hard to make and yet appears deceptively simple when made well - it melted in my mouth. My husband had what we call the best tuna tartare in the city, so good because it *trusts* the quality of the tuna - you will not find fresher tuna in NYC unless you're on a boat pulling it out of the sea, and the in-season soft shell crab, which if it's available, well just order it! The desserts are all made in-house so please save room, I honestly don't know how they do it, but they do! And the bar, well I'll just say this - they really know how to fix a great martini - ice cold, filled to the brim, perfectly delivered - they practically have diamonds in them :-). A terrific chopped house salad with a clean lemony dressing. My friend had pasta fruitti di mare, hold the calamari. I had fettucini with tomatoes and shrimp. He boasted that his dish was better than mine. I said naah - it had more flavors and more depth. Mine was simpler and awfully, awfully clean. Not sure where they get their tomatoes from. Delicious northern Italian fare. I was greeted at the bar with breadsticks, cheese and meat. Once we arrived at our table more meat and cheese was brought out in addition to a beautiful bread basket, focaccia and a tomato spread. This is my absolute favourite Italian place in the city!! I have been coming here for the last three years and the food, wine and service have all been consistently excellent. My personal favourite dish is the asparagus and shrimp risotto, and their burrata is the best I have had in the city. The servers are always so warm and happy to modify any dish to your preference and make food recommendations based on your tastes. The Chianti here is always great and the grappa is delicious. Service is fast and the place never seems too crowded or noisy (although I would make reservations for larger groups). If you only have time to eat at one place in the city, this is the spot to come to!! The crowd here is generally older UES couples/groups but my friends and I love this spot for birthdays/drinks and will take any excuse to come eat here! read more

What a hidden gem this place is! You know when you almost missed the entrance because it's overshadowed by its American burger/diner neighbor! Walked in off the street 'cause a friend who was visiting from out of town was craving pasta...and this may have been the best spontaneous move yet! The owner/manager in a suit sat us promptly the second we got in...a round table with us both facing the rest of the tiny quaint place...candlelights and low ceiling with italian art and paintings all around made us feel like we were in Italy! The delightful cheese platter with bread that came first...with the menu...got us all excited! The cheese are aged so well, the bread was all warm and soft and the breadsticks are to die for. I kept munching on it. Entrees were perfect. Lobster linguine with white sauce was the right amount of creamy...not the heavy, sleep-inducing kind. Decent amount of lobster. The special sea bass with clams and mussels in a light tomato sauce was not too salty or tomato-ey! My friend was raving about the food non stop! Dessert was just the way to go. We had two: the tiramisu and the blueberry panna cotta! Omg...the BB panna cotta was the right amount of light! The tiramisu was just the right amount of sweet. Service was great...all the staff worked as a team and were extremely attentive to all our needs, whether it was refilling drinks, cleaning the table or clearing plates. I suppose the right amount of everything made this place perfect! I would certainly come back here again...for a date or a small dinner party. I think the fact that the owner is working the floor and tables is always a good sign that this restaurant takes pride in its service and customer satisfaction!
