My first experience having dinner at Pietro's new digs on Second Avenue was very good. The food here is excellent, classic Southern Italian done right. Not many places offer a classic caesar salad made with raw egg and anchovies anymore; thank goodness Pietro's still does so and the result is sublime. Fresh crunchy romaine lettuce coated in piquant, creamy dressing with parmesan crisps....just yum. Personal entree faves are veal milanese, chicken parm, shells a la nat and a decadent tartufo dessert made with rich dark chocolate gelato encased in a crunchy chocolate shell. If this isn't the stuff dreams are made of, I don't know what is! Caveat: This is a loud, boisterous venue. Be prepared for a high noise level, cramped seating and uneven service, especially on busy weekends. But the wonderful food makes it all worthwhile. read more

Finally went back here after it reopened and while a very different vibe from the old place, I would definitely recommend based on the food and service. A few nitpick: They start you off with cold bread and even colder butter, so I'm not sure why they bother. They should fix this. Wine list is small and not well priced. They definitely need to upgrade. As to the famous Caesar salad, while still very good, it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. Please go back to the old recipe. As to the rest of the food, superb! Sirloin steak for two was exceptional, perfectly cooked and seasoned. One of the best steaks I've had this year. Shells a la Nat was a little different from the old version, but really delicious! Broccoli was perfectly cooked. Excellent creme brulee to finish. We will definitely return! read more

Avoid at all costs. The Chicken Pietro was cold, poorly prepared, and honestly inedible. The chicken was cut into oversized, tough pieces that were hard to chew, and the dish was drowning in greasy, fried vegetables. Absolutely no care or balance. The eggplant parmesan was embarrassing to call Italian -- soggy, oily, and completely lacking flavor. I've had better meals at fast-casual chains. There are far better options nearby. This place never misses. New location has a similar feel to the old one. I've only had takeout so far from the new location, but am 3 for 3 so far. Their chicken limone is my favorite dish of all time. Other notable dishes worth trying: spaghetti with meatballs, shells a la nat, sauteed chicken, potatoes lyonnaise, chicken parm, steak. Can't really go wrong with anything here. The staff and ownership couldn't be more welcoming. Glad to see Pietro's back in action! read more

Pietro's is some of the best old school Italian spots in the city! Their chicken parm is insane, baked clams are classic, and I love the shrimp diavolo. There are a lot of white table cloth red sauce joints but this one is at the top for me and my friends. They've been around for decades for a reason. read more

I had a great dinner with a pal at Pietro's before it moved to its new location. Tonight, it was like the restaurant that went wrong. The service was terrible -- we waited 25 minutes for our wine. Then the waiter brought out the antipasto, salad and main all at the same time. Their amazing pasta in bone marrow was a pale copy of the original. And the waiter didn't want to admit it was not the same dish Pietro's used to serve. Really disappointing. read more

New place is much nicer then previous location, great service, we started with Caesar salad and it was delicious, had the shells ala nat and was good but the sauce wasn't the same , it was a lighter color not the brownish color it use to be. My wife had the veal franchise and it was very good and I had the shrimp scampi that was perfect. I usually get the steak or lamb chops but I had it the night before. Next time we will have steak. Food was delivered cold. Shells a la Nat was better than Chicken Pietro (white meat only) which we've been eating for more than 50 years. Chicken chunks were way to large and hard. I tracked the order and sense that the problem was in the restaurant and not the delivery man's. We never have a problem with grubhub with places like PJ Clarke's or Morton's. For many years, among my all time favorite restaurants first in the small building on East 45th street off of 3rd Avenue then when it moved to the ground floor of the Pfizer Building on 43rd off of 2nd Avenue for many years until think it was this year the building was sold and Pietro's lease wasn't renewed so it closed down there hoping I'm told to re-open elsewhere in the City. I fondly remember Leo, his son Lenny, Sal behind the bar, then John, Bill greeting clients, the hat check lady who remembered without a ticket everyone's checked item and all the wait staff who did a magnificent job. Fine food specialized in Steaks, Chops, Seafood, Italian ................. all wonderful, first class quality and preparation.
